Central and western regions, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha, are anticipated to experience the brunt of these extreme heatwaves.<br /><br />In terms of pre-monsoon rainfall, April is expected to see normal rains, with increased precipitation predicted for May and June in Northwest, Central, North Peninsular, East, and Northeast India. However, coastal areas in both the East and West, as well as West-central India, can expect below-normal rainfall, offering little relief from the sweltering conditions.<br /><br />Heatwaves pose serious risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, and individuals with health issues, who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses like heatstroke, heat exhaustion, and dehydration. Additionally, extreme heat can strain power grids, transportation, and other infrastructure. To mitigate these risks, proactive measures such as establishing cooling centres, issuing heat advisories, and implementing strategies to reduce urban heat buildup are crucial.<br /><br />Furthermore, this period of intense heat coincides with the <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections (April 19th - June 1st), where nearly a billion people are expected to participate. Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasised the need for India to prepare adequately due to its large population and extreme weather conditions. <ul class="summary-list"><li>I went glamping for the first time in the Sahara Desert with two kids and had an amazing time.</li><li>Not even the sub-zero temperatures and minimal amenities ruined the beautiful views.</li></ul><p>I don't require <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/5-star-hotel-worth-it-stay-more-than-a-night-2023-9">five-star accommodations</a> to be comfortable, but I have spent most of my adult life avoiding camping, convinced I would hate it.</p><p>When I travel, I like having hot showers, reliable electricity, and a warm place to sleep at night. Those basics aren't a guarantee with camping, but they <em>do</em> often come with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/glamping-below-freezing-temperatures-winter-review-photos-2023">glamping</a>.</p><p>Glamping varies widely but generally consists of accommodations and facilities more luxurious than a basic tent. Sometimes, it also involves sleeping in a yurt, cabin, or unique structure — after all, the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.arizton.com/market-reports/united-states-glamping-market">glamping industry is booming in the US</a> amid the rising demand for unique travel experiences.</p><p>So when I booked a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/group-guided-tour-morocco-worth-money-frequent-solo-traveler-2023-10">group tour</a> to Morocco with my two kids that included overnight camping in the Sahara Desert, I was down to give it a try.</p><p>I paid $4,256 for the three of us for the entire group tour, which included accommodations, a sunset camel ride into the dunes, dinner, and breakfast during the two days in the Sahara Desert.</p><h2 id="e385d73a-c802-495e-a45a-daad1f08dbb2"><strong>At first, I didn't realize what I was in for</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Sand in Sahara desert with footprints in it " height="960" width="1280" msid="111175636" hostid="261" sizebytes="98310"></div><p>When I signed up for the trip, I naively assumed a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-namibia-desert-transformed-by-rain-2021-11">desert in North Africa</a> would be comfortable in December.</p><p>Only later while frantically searching what I would need to camp in the Sahara did I learn its temperatures in the winter could fall to 25 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.</p><p>I started to panic. The tent I was staying in did not have heat. I rush-ordered a merino wool base layer and hoped for the best.</p><p>I read reviews past travelers left saying that even though the camp I was staying in had showers, I could forget about using them because it would be far too cold.</p><p>At the last minute, I packed a few baby wipes so I could give myself a sponge bath in the desert if needed. I was no longer convinced this would be a very glam experience, but it was too late to change my plans.</p><h2 id="ffc91735-54fe-4c0a-ac60-d1d49272f5a9"><strong>Fortunately, the desert camp was much nicer than I expected</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Row of small glamping tents in Sahara Desert surrounded by sand " height="960" width="1280" msid="111175637" hostid="261" sizebytes="123438"></div><p>My camp in the Sahara — <span>El Borj, located in </span>Erg Chebbi — was anything but basic. Improbably, it had a cozy, home-like feel. </p><p>Throughout the campsite, beautiful Moroccan rugs were carefully arranged over the sand. Much to my relief, it was also insulated.</p><div type="image" title="Interior of glamping tent in Sahara desert with large bed, sheet-covered ceilings, rug-covered floor" height="960" width="1280" msid="111175638" hostid="261" sizebytes="98350"></div><p>The camp had electricity, although I had been warned that the power source was unreliable and could fail at any moment.</p><h2 id="a6a7c2cc-dc0c-4bd4-810e-6dddab61ca2e"><strong>Daytime in the desert was magical, and nighttime was cold but lovely</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Three people on camels in Sahara desert sands " height="960" width="1280" msid="111175632" hostid="261" sizebytes="109562"></div><p>A <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coachella-weekend-parties-better-than-festival-2023-3">day in the desert</a> was just as magical as I had hoped.</p><p>I vowed that riding a camel into the sunset, watching the sun disappear over the vast desert, and sliding down enormous sand dunes would not be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.</p><p>At night, I bundled up and enjoyed a feast with roasted olives, traditional Moroccan tagine, couscous, and fresh fruit sprinkled with cinnamon.</p><p>As the temperature dropped, I huddled by the fire and stared in awe at the desert sky, which was filled with more stars than I'd ever seen at one time. I felt the bitter cold nipping my face and decided I could wait until the morning.</p><h2 id="50db1e7c-3f03-47bb-a97b-59ad8d7a6020"><strong>I would gladly go glamping again — and I might even try camping</strong></h2><div type="image" title="People on camels in Sahara Desert" height="960" width="1280" msid="111175634" hostid="261" sizebytes="35218"></div><p>I woke up early, in time to catch the golden sunrise over the dunes. I sat by the fire with a hot cup of coffee mixed with warm milk and sugar.</p><p>As I watched the sunrise, I decided that I was a glamping person after all. Later that afternoon, driving away from the desert, I wondered if I should give old-fashioned camping a try, too.</p>

I went glamping in the Sahara Desert. I thought I'd hate it, but even the freezing temperatures didn't get me down. 

Average <keyword id="14195929" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="human-brain-temperature" source="Orion">human brain temperature</keyword> is 38.5 degrees Celsius, with deeper brain regions often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, particularly in women during the daytime, finds a study.<br /><br />Normal human brain temperature varies much more than previously thought, and this could be a sign of <keyword id="14195930" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="healthy-brain-function" source="Orion">healthy brain function</keyword>, said researchers at the <keyword id="198445" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="medical-research-council" source="Orion">Medical Research Council</keyword> (MRC) Laboratory for Molecular Biology, in the UK who produced the first 4D map of healthy human brain temperature.<br /><br />The map overturns several previous assumptions and shows the remarkable extent to which brain temperature varies by brain region, age, sex, and time of day. Importantly, these findings also challenge a widely held belief that human brain and body temperature are the same.<br /><br />The research, published in the journal Brain, also included analysis of data from patients with traumatic brain injury, showing that the presence of daily brain temperature cycles strongly correlates with survival. These findings could be used to improve understanding, prognosis, and treatment of brain injury.<br /><br />"To me, the most surprising finding from our study is that the healthy human brain can reach temperatures that would be diagnosed as fever anywhere else in the body. Such high temperatures have been measured in people with brain injuries in the past, but had been assumed to result from the injury," said Dr. John O'Neill, Group Leader at the MRC Lab.<br /><br />To study the healthy brain, the researchers recruited 40 volunteers, aged 20-40 years, to be scanned in the morning, afternoon, and late evening over one day.<br /><br />In healthy participants, the average brain temperature was 38.5 degrees Celsius, more than two degrees warmer than that measured under the tongue. The study also found that brain temperature varied depending on: time of day, brain region, sex and menstrual cycle, and age.<br /><br />While the brain surface was generally cooler, deeper brain structures were frequently warmer than 40 degrees Celsius; with the highest observed brain temperature being 40.9 degrees Celsius.<br /><br />Across all individuals, brain temperature showed consistent time-of-day variation by nearly 1 degrees Celsius, with highest brain temperatures observed in the afternoon, and the lowest at night.<br /><br />"We found that brain temperature drops at night before you go to sleep and rises during the day. There is good reason to believe this daily variation is associated with long-term brain health " something we hope to investigate next," O'Neill said.<br /><br />On average, female brains were around 0.4 degrees Celsius warmer than male brains. McCollum may be living through the harshest conditions of anyone in the <keyword id="6361805" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="NBA">NBA</keyword> bubble in Disney World — though it's self-inflicted.</p><p><a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/page/nbareturn29599276/inside-nba-bubble-unofficial-wine-club">According to ESPN's Baxter Holmes</a>, McCollum has kept his hotel room in the bubble a frigid mid- to upper-50s when he's away to keep the 84 bottles of wine he ordered to the bubble fresh. He ordered mostly wine from local Oregon vineyards where he is a member and ordered extra cases to give away.</p><p>"If you're in my hotel and you happen to be by the pool, you'll be able to partake in whatever I'm drinking that day," McCollum told Holmes. "So if it's during the daytime, it'll probably be some bubbly. If it's at nighttime, it's probably pinot."</p><p>McCollum had posted a photo of his setup early on in the bubble.</p><p>He also ordered some of his own label, McCollum Heritage 91.</p><p><a href="https://theundefeated.com/features/blazers-cj-mccollum-from-big-shot-taker-to-black-winemaker/">McCollum told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated</a> that he named the wine after the street he grew up on in Canton, Ohio, and the birth year of both he and his fiancee. </p><p>McCollum's teammate Carmelo Anthony is also a renowned wine connoisseur and brought vintage wines from Europe into the bubble, some of which he gave away.</p><p>On Thursday, ESPN's Cassidy Hubbarth reported during Game 2 between the Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers that when the Blazers recently switched hotels, there were apparently numerous bottles of wine left behind. NBA star CJ McCollum is keeping his hotel room a frigid temperature to create a wine cellar for the 84 bottles he ordered to the Disney bubble

It was the first day care that had been willing to talk to us at all. Most were full with no waiting list. This one was full, with a waiting list of nine months for part-time care and 18 months for full-time. In my desperation, I signed up for the tour, knowing that the timeframe didn't work for us.</p><p>At this point, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/adult-daughter-lives-at-home-pros-cons-2024-7">my daughter</a> was three months old. I had promised my clients she would be in day care by six months so that they could be my priority in the daytime. It was too big of a promise.</p><p>As I was mentally calculating whether all of this would work, the tour guide told us it was $350 to get on the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/couldnt-afford-childcare-daughter-started-kindergarten-early-2024-2">day care's waiting list</a>.</p><p>Someone else on the tour unmuted to say: "And that will go toward your other fees?"</p><p>The tour guide put on her best empathetic smile. "No. It's just the cost of getting on the waiting list. We've had a lot of problems with people disappearing on us, so this just tells us you're serious."</p><p>I pretended to listen to the rest of the virtual tour, knowing that day care wouldn't work for us. Between costs and waitlists, why not just keep her home and hope that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-nyc-parents-got-kids-into-top-preschools-2021-2">preschool</a> wouldn't be this insane?</p><p>Two years later, I still don't know if I made the right decision to become a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wife-makes-500000-year-stay-at-home-dad-2024-7">stay-at-home mom</a>.</p><h2 id="073128d6-4929-4b5d-935c-35953b676148"><strong>I've started implementing a set schedule</strong></h2><p>Keeping my daughter at home with me was our only choice. I work for myself at home. To some degree, I set my schedule, and I could care for my daughter as needed. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ex-husband-open-relationship-met-partner-divorce-engaged-2024-3">My partner</a> has to go into an office with heavy machinery — not the best environment for a newborn.</p><p>But it was impossible when I first started to balance my daughter's needs with my work. Everything seemed to change at a moment's notice, and I never knew when I could work. I couldn't keep going like that without something breaking.</p><p>I realized we had to get on a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/4-day-work-week-how-i-manage-time-schedule-2021-10">set schedule</a> to save my sanity, so I instituted one when she was about eight weeks old.</p><p>I found that we both flourished. My daughter had a rhythm to her day that she responded to, and I knew the times I could get work done. Are these times always reliable? No, but having the basic plan has made fitting everything in a little easier.</p><p>I put one-on-one time with my daughter into the calendar. My clients know that they can contact me in an emergency during those times, but otherwise, it's treated like any <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/thoughtful-ways-entertain-clients-business-trip-2022-6">client meeting</a>: My daughter has my undivided attention.</p><h2 id="5c72090f-59b9-4b00-98be-45b0f54d4029"><strong>I'm struggling through this difficult situation</strong></h2><p>My partner can leave the house whenever he wants. When I leave, I have to figure out what to do with our daughter. She's been at client meetings and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/day-in-the-life-gen-z-ceo-founder-company-nyc-2024-7">work events</a> because I have no one else to watch her, which is not ideal for getting more work with clients.</p><p>I'm also hitting limits. I simply can't do as much work as I used to before my <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/going-back-to-work-after-baby-maternity-leave-judgment-2024-6">daughter was born</a>, which means I'm not taking on as many jobs. I've had to pass on several opportunities that would've been interesting simply because I don't have the time.</p><p>Then there are the days my daughter has a 102-degree temperature and needs me all day. Our schedule goes out the window. Work has to be on hold until her naptime. This would happen if she were in day care as well, but it just seems to hit harder when I watch my partner walk out the door, and I'm left with the mess of my day.</p><p>I'm trying not to resent him; we are all doing what is best for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-save-money-as-a-big-family-young-kids-2024-7">our family</a> right now, but it can get difficult.</p><h2 id="e962541e-2df8-42da-94b5-17877c1f3ef3"><strong>I'm trying not to rush this time with my daughter</strong></h2><p>While I juggle caring for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dropping-son-off-kindergarten-tough-realization-2024-9">my kid</a> and getting work done for my clients, I wonder if I am doing the right thing. But I remind myself that this time is so fleeting. My daughter is only this little for such a short period of time, and I will never get this uninterrupted time with her ever again.</p><p>As we start our search for the perfect preschool for her, I find myself crying as I picture her learning and having fun without me. Will I really have to let her go in just one short year? It seems unbearable.</p><p>So, as much as I rail against all of the limitations this life has given me, I squeeze my daughter a little tighter every day as I whisper to her, "You don't have to grow up so fast, do you?" Every day I watch as she most definitely is growing up too fast.</p>

They realized that the cooling trend wasn't just limited to the glaciers around Mt. Everest; it was across the entire <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tibet-maybe-splitting-apart-himalayan-mountains-grow-tectonic-plates-study-2024-1"><u>Himalayas</u></a>.</p><p>But how could this be? After all, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/19/climate/himalayas-melting-water-source.html"><u>a report</u></a> published last year found that Himalayan <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/melting-glaciers-ice-sheets-sea-level-rise-climate-disaster-2022-12"><u>glaciers melted faster</u></a> between 2010 and 2019 than in the previous decade, suggesting the glaciers were getting warmer along with the rest of the world.</p><h2><strong>Blame the wind</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Snowy mountain peak." height="1411" width="2124" msid="107466546" hostid="261" sizebytes="252742"></div><p>Researchers think that this cooling trend is the result of a well-understood phenomenon called <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/frozen-russian-hikers-died-dyatlov-pass-avalanche-study-2021-2"><u>katabatic winds</u></a>.</p><p>On warm days, as sunlight heats the glaciers, the air just above the glacier's surface warms and rises. This creates a vacuum causing the cold air around the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-a-fall-from-denali-north-americas-tallest-peak-2022-7"><u>snowy peaks</u></a> to rush down due to gravity.</p><p>As the phenomenon intensifies, it creates local katabatic winds which typically peak in the afternoon and can reach speeds of over <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1657/AAAR00C-13-132"><u>100 mph</u></a>.</p><p>As average global temperatures rise worldwide, due to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/climate-action-30-global-leaders-climate-solutions-2023-11"><u>climate change</u></a>, katabatic winds are growing more intense because the more heat that's warming and rising from the mountain's surface, the more it forces cold air down. That's what's causing the cooling trend over the last 15 years, the researchers reported.</p><p>Moreover, the researchers think the chilly winds may have partly helped in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/antarctica-lost-enough-ice-cover-us-three-feet-water-2023-10"><u>slowing the melting</u></a> of these glaciers which otherwise could have been even worse.</p><p>But there is a catch.</p><p>The study also found that the lowest nighttime temperature during cold months (November to April) is on the rise. As the coldest nights are becoming less cold and warm month days are getting mildly cooler, the average temperature tends to balance out, giving a deceiving impression of the temperature trend.</p><p>That said, glaciers will continue to melt in the face of climate change because glacial melting is not just linked to air temperature close to the ice.</p><h2>Glaciers will continue to melt as global temperatures rise</h2><div type="image" title="A floating iceberg in Antarctica." height="1414" width="2121" msid="107466548" hostid="261" sizebytes="261860"></div><p>Ice can act like a buffer, absorbing some heat before increasing in temperature.</p><p>During the warm daylight hours, the glacier ice absorbs heat from the surrounding air. Then at night, the ice releases some of that stored heat energy, preventing the air temperature from dropping too low.</p><p>So the ice damps down the daily heat peaks and cold dips in the area right around the glacier.</p><p>That's why temperatures farther away from the glacier better reflect the true daily peaks and nighttime cooling which ends up influencing the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/melting-glaciers-unveil-dead-bodies-ancient-disease-and-more-2019-3">melting processes</a>.</p><p>"Understanding this whole process was a great relief," said Franco Salerno, lead author of the paper and an environmental scientist at the National Research Council, Institute of Polar Sciences, Milan.</p><p>His team had noticed the decreasing temperature trend in warmer months nearly 10 years ago but couldn't pin down the exact phenomenon. Now, more studies can focus on this local weather phenomenon.</p><p>Most importantly, the finding shows the role of glaciers in shaping <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mountains-switzerland-collapsing-from-permafrost-melt-2023-8">local mountain climates</a>. And that has had a huge impact on climbers.</p><h2>Rising risks for businesses</h2><div type="image" title="climbing everest" height="1867" width="1400" msid="107466549" hostid="261" sizebytes="138268"></div><p>The frigid, dense, high-speed katabatic winds can easily intensify — even reaching <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/climate-change-hurricanes-why-storms-are-wetter-stronger-slower-2019-7">hurricane speed</a>. As a result, these winds have a big impact on the local weather of the mountain.</p><p>As a result "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mount-everest-stories-from-climbers-2019-6">climbing has become much trickier</a> as our guides have to asses the route to the summit in each trip," said Gordon Janow, director of the mountain climbing guide service Alpine Ascents, who has been in the mountaineering industry for nearly four decades.</p><p>The terrain has also gotten more technical as melting glaciers open up <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/video-skier-sudden-15-foot-drop-into-hidden-crevasse-alps-2023-4">huge crevasses</a>.</p><p>"We have to go 100 yards to the right then cut back to the left then cut to the right," he said.</p><p>What was once a 10-hour journey to the summit can extend to 12 or even 14 hours. "Then, all of a sudden we may come across a glacier that we can't cross," Janow added. As a result, many mountains are not even climbed anymore.</p><p>The melting of glaciers triggered by such local weather phenomena has brought trouble to not only the Himalayas but mountains all over the world.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mount-rainier-national-park-paradise-snowiest-place-us-2021-6">Mount Rainier</a>, for example, has traditionally served as a training ground for many mountaineers. "I have had people come in saying things like, 'My grandfather climbed Mount Rainier by himself in 1957. We're gonna do it.'," he said.</p><p>"But people fail to realize it's not your grandfather's mountain anymore," he said.</p>

Samsung is also working on a spate of other <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-to-release-new-smartphones-powered-by-ai-2024-1"><u>AI-powered devices</u></a> including smartphones and even a robot-vacuum mop that can detect stains. </p><p>But the Galaxy Ring is likely to focus on tracking and measuring health metrics like sleep, if a Samsung <a target="_blank" href="https://uspto.report/TM/97813453">patent</a> filed in February 2023 is any indication.</p><p>And this might not be great news for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wearable-health-tech-proactive-illness-detection-oura-smart-ring-2021-4"><u>Oura</u></a> — Silicon Valley's favorite smart ring manufacturer. <ul class="summary-list"><li><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/facts-about-the-grand-canyon">The Grand Canyon</a> is popular, so I visited in February to avoid the busy summer months.</li><li>Temperatures were brisk, but I still experienced the stunning views and trails of the national park.</li></ul><p><span>The Grand Canyon has always been on my travel bucket list, with its </span>sweeping views that warp one's sense of distance, cliff faces that tower over rugged hiking trails, and buildings steeped with history.</p><p><span>But Grand Canyon National Park is one of the </span><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-us-national-parks-according-to-frequent-solo-traveler-2023-11"><span>most visited national parks in the United States</span></a><span>, and it gets especially crowded in the summer months.</span></p><p><span>When my travel partner and I started planning a February </span><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-traveling-to-phoenix-arizona"><span>trip to Arizona</span></a><span> and Nevada to escape the cold northeast winter, I figured it would be the perfect time to visit the iconic landmark.</span></p><p><span>By visiting during the offseason, I was hoping to avoid crowds while still getting the Grand Canyon experience. Here's what I found.</span></p>The South Rim is the only part of the national park that's open during the winter months.
