Wealthy New Yorkers are paying 'dog nannies' up to $130 to take their dogs on hikes, and the day includes door-to-door service and groups tailored to each dog's personality

New Delhi, Dec 8 () An employee association of state-owned CIL and SCCL on Sunday said it will go on a day-long protest in the national capital on Monday, over lack of pension reforms in the coal sector.
 "The All India Association of Coal Executives, under the banner of All India Coal Pensioners Association (AICPA), will be organising one-day dharna by coal pensioners at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on December 9 (Monday)," it said in a statement.
 The association says that pension of Coal India Ltd (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) employees has not been reviewed since 1998 despite a provision requiring a review of the Coal Mines Pension Scheme (CMPS) every three years.
 The Coal Mines Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1948, paved the way for creation of a statutory body Coal Mines Provident Fund Office (CMPFO) to formulate and maintain a comprehensive pension scheme for coal employees for the welfare of retired employees in the coal sector.
 "After passage of 50 years, a so-called sustainable pension scheme came into existence and is called CMPS-1998. Coal employers and executives are covered under CMPS-1998 which is effective from April 1, 1994... Despite the provision for review of the scheme every three years, it has not been done and pension once fixed at the time of retirement has never been increased since inception," the statement said.
 As a result, even chairman and managing directors of state-owned coal companies, such as CIL, who retired before 1997 are receiving a monthly pension of only Rs 1,000-Rs 3,000 per month.
 "Whereas even the lowest-level employees of both the PSUs -- CIL and SCCL -- retiring today get more than Rs 10,000 per month as pension due to increase in salary in 2007 and 2017 pay revision for executives and different NCWA (National Coal Wage Agreement) over the last 20 years," the statement said.
 Since inception of the scheme 21 years ago, not even once the pension has been enhanced, the statement said.
 Since CMPS 1998 is a government-notified scheme, the Centre must pitch in to bail out the scheme by levying a cess on coal production in the country. SID HRS

Its death came after an extraordinary political tussle between the city and state over whether to transfer the deer upstate or euthanize it."Unfortunately the deer has died due to stress," said Sam Biederman, a spokesman for the parks department. "This is why the city's preference in this circumstance was humane euthanasia rather than subjecting the animal to the stress of transportation and relocation."The city announced plans on Thursday to kill the deer, which was captured at the Polo Grounds Towers in Harlem that morning and taken to a nearby animal shelter. His presence at a nearby park had drawn crowds for weeks.That was when New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo stepped in, hours after de Blasio had announced plans to euthanize the deer. A spokesman for Cuomo <a href="https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/statement-james-allen-spokesman-governor-cuomo" target="_blank">said</a> that the state's Department of Environmental Conservation had advised the city that there were alternative options to euthanasia. Cuomo's spokesman said he had directed the DEC to "offer assistance to the City to transport and find a new habitat for it immediately."The city initially held to its original position, even as de Blasio came under increasing fire. On a radio show Friday, he was asked by a Twitter user whether it was "really necessary" to have the deer killed. He argued, based on information he received from city officials, that relocating the deer could actually be more traumatizing in the long run for the deer."You take, like any other creature that is used to a certain environment," he said. "You put them in a new environment even in nature. It's traumatizing. It creates all sorts of extended pain and usually leads to death. So I think this is a case where it's a really bad situation, unfortunately, if a deer ends up in the middle of an urban area and it's nothing any of us want. But, I think it's a question of is it going to be a quick and merciful death versus a potentially and very long, painful process."A few hours later, however, the city's parks department relented and said it would allow the state to transport the animal."Due to the stress caused by travel and low survival rates of relocated deer, we believe euthanasia is the most humane option. A deer captured in Harlem died amid a day-long New York political feud

New Delhi, Jan 8 () Production at Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India's (HMSI) Manesar plant in Haryana and factories of various auto component manufacturers in Manesar-Bawal industrial belt was hit on Wednesday by the day-long strike called by 10 major trade unions against the Centre's "anti-people" policies.
 The strike, however, had no impact on production of auto majors Maruti Suzuki India, Hero MotoCorp and Honda Cars India at their plants in various parts of the country. 
 "Workers in all three shifts at the Manesar plant are not working today in support of the trade union strike," HMSI Employee Union President Suresh Gaur told .
 He said HMSI Manesar plant workers alongwith counterparts from factories of auto component makers Shivam Autotech, Emkay Automobile Industries, Munjal Showa, Napino Auto &amp; Electronics and Talbros, among others have joined in for a day-long protest.
 "Workers at factories in the Manesar-Bawal industrial are supporting the strike and productions have been affected," Gaur claimed.
 When contacted, HMSI officials declined to comment. 
 Workers and officials at Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, Honda Cars India confirmed that production was on normally at their respective plants and the strike has had no impact.
 10 central trade unions have claimed around 25 crore people will participate in the nationwide strike called to protest against the union government's labour reforms, FDI, disinvestment, corporatisation and privatisation policies. 
 They are pressing for a 12-point charter of demands of the working class relating to minimum wage and social security, among others.
 The demands also include a minimum pension of Rs 6,000 for everyone, minimum support price (MSP) for farmers, adequate supply of ration to people, AITUC General Secretary Amarjeet Kaur said, adding that the demands concern common man's issues besides worker-centric areas. RKL RVK

I recently flew economy class from New York City to <keyword id="6356662" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Singapore">Singapore</keyword> (with a stop in Frankfurt) on Singapore Airlines, and saw for myself why the airline gets rave reviews.
What really helps the airline stand apart is not the seats or the food or even the entertainment (though it has all that), but the service. People who work for the airline are trained to treat passengers with respect and care — something that's increasingly unusual these days.
We thought the day-long trip to Singapore would be unbearable. But even in economy class, it was surprisingly pleasant.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin, Maine, was a person of interest in Wednesday's Lewiston, Maine, shooting.</li><li>A nearly 2-day-long manhunt for Card ended Friday, authorities told CNN.</li></ul>The search for a suspected gunman who police say killed 18 people in a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/lewiston-maine-shooting-police-dead-injured-2023-10">mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine</a>, ended after authorities found him dead, officials said in a press conference Friday.Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin, Maine, was found dead in Lisbon, Maine, Gov. Janet Mills said during the conference. State police didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.The suspect's body was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, State Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck told reporters.Sauschuck declined to state the exact location Card's body was found but stated he was located near a river in Lisbon Falls.Authorities briefed on the situation told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/10/27/us/maine-shooting-lewiston-manhunt/2f7b0b7f-3faf-56ea-9643-2069a3f9eb16?smid=url-share">The New York Times</a> that Card was found near Maine Recycling, where the suspect used to work. The center is located next to the Androscoggin River.The owner of the recycling center, Leo Madden, confirmed to the Times that Card was a former employee and that his "demeanor at Maine Recycling was no different from anybody else."Card was a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/maine-shooting-man-police-hunt-firearms-instructor-trained-military-report-2023-10">firearms instructor believed to be in the US Army Reserve</a> and had been at large since the shooting late Wednesday night at a bar and bowling alley in the small Maine town.Police asked residents to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/maine-man-describes-sheltering-in-place-after-mass-shooting-2023-10">shelter in place in Maine</a> cities, including Lewiston, Lisbon, and Bowdoin, as authorities searched for the suspect. The Canada Border Services Agency issued an "armed and dangerous" alert to its officers stationed along the Canada-US border, and the Coast Guard sent out a patrol boat Thursday morning along the Kennebec River.Lewiston Police Department published photos of the suspect holding a weapon inside a business establishment at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Authorities noted at the time that the suspect was still at large.The shootings occurred at Just-in-Time Recreation bowling alley and Schemengees Bar &amp; Grille about four miles away, authorities said.Seven people died at the bowling alley, and eight more people died at the bar, according to <a target="_blank" href="https://apnews.com/article/maine-shooting-victims-1be7d14e90ef6c91ca23819163d29f3e">The Associated Press</a>.
