But proponents of the unsubstantiated fraud claims he championed still enjoy special appointed positions - like seats on the board overseeing the hallowed U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.</p><p>Overall, an <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/federal-appointees-supported-trumps-election-lies-2021-8">Insider investigation</a> found more than 40 proponents of the so-called "Big Lie" of 2020 voter fraud - including some whose public comments condoned, downplayed, and even encouraged political violence - on federal commissions and panels like the Holocaust Memorial board.</p><p>The museum was built in 1993 to help lead the nation commemorate the Holocaust and inspire people "to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity." It offers exhibitions for the public as well as research facilities and materials for academics, to teach "a powerful lesson in the fragility of freedom, the myth of progress, and the need for vigilance in preserving democratic values." </p><p>Members of the 55-seat governing board act as trustees to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. All members are appointed by the president or Congress. The positions are unpaid, and the board meets twice a year.</p><p>Several proponents of the Big Lie have seats on the board of the solemn institution:</p><ul><li><strong>Andrew Giuliani.</strong> The son of <keyword id="6354484" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Donald-Trump">Donald Trump</keyword>'s personal lawyer, <keyword id="324847" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Rudy-Giuliani">Rudy Giuliani</keyword>, Andrew is a former Trump White House public liaison. In the weeks leading up to his appointment to the Council in December 2020, the lightly-credentialed 35-year-old promoted vote fraud theories on Twitter. More recently, he defended his father's repeated election lies <a href="https://twitter.com/AndrewHGiuliani/status/1408096094169468929?s=20">in a video he posted to the social media platform</a>. Andrew described the New York court's revocation of his father's law license as "unbelievable" and "unacceptable," and alleged his father "did everything by the book." Giuliani is currently making <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jun/29/andrew-giuliani-poll-new-york-republican-leaders-governor">a long-shot bid</a> for the New York governorship. Giuliani's campaign did not respond to requests for comment from the candidate.</li><li><strong>Richard Grenell. </strong>As Trump's former acting intelligence chief and ambassador to Germany, Grenell <a href="https://twitter.com/RichardGrenell/status/1326530320976367621?s=20">tweeted</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/RichardGrenell/status/1327633522811695108?s=20">frequently</a> to <a href="https://twitter.com/RichardGrenell/status/1328733898981838848?s=20">allege</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/RichardGrenell/status/1328888321536184321?s=20">vote</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/RichardGrenell/status/1329486837816066051?s=20">fraud</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/RichardGrenell/status/1345758826541191170?s=20">concerns</a> in the weeks and months following the election. At an October rally in Pennsylvania, he stood by presidential daughter and senior campaign adviser Lara Trump as she <a href="https://www.advocate.com/election/2020/10/17/lara-trump-says-dead-cats-are-voting-dems-trump-pride-rally">alleged a conspiracy of dead cats</a> voting absentee for Joe Biden. <br /><br />In November, the onetime spymaster flew to Nevada <a href="https://www.advocate.com/election/2020/11/05/richard-grenell-flees-reporter-asking-evidence-nevada-voter-fraud">to announce a lawsuit</a> to "stop counting illegal ballots" in the state. When reporters pressed for evidence, Grenell "<a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/ric-grenell-runs-away-as-msnbc-reporter-jacob-soboroff-demands-proof-of-voter-fraud-claims">rushed inside a waiting van</a>" and rode away.<br /><br />In response to Insider's request for comment, Grenell claimed in an email without citing evidence that "there was massive fraud in the last election" that the media failed to cover. He then falsely claimed that an Insider reporter was "rumored" to have refused to sign a company honor code promising to "always defend Israel's right to exist." There is no such honor code at Insider or at its parent company.</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Max Miller. </strong>A former Trump aide and former deputy campaign manager for Trump's 2020 campaign, Miller is now running for an Ohio congressional seat.  "What happened on January 6 was not an insurrection," Miller <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/jun/24/trump-backed-max-miller-targets-so-called-republic/">told the Washington Times</a> in June. Trump appeared with Miller at a campaign rally in June, and used the candidate's platform to <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/jun/27/stolen-election-key-among-supporters-1st-major-tru/">repeat his debunked claims of a "rigged" election</a>.  "'This was the scam of the century and this was the crime of the century,' Trump <a href="https://www.al.com/politics/2021/06/donald-trump-holds-ohio-rally-in-support-of-max-miller-discusses-scam-of-the-century.html">told the crowd</a>. Miller's campaign did not respond to requests for comment for the candidate.</li><li>Rep. <strong><keyword id="3461779" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Lee-Zeldin">Lee Zeldin</keyword></strong> of New York. Rep. Zeldin <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/1/6/22218058/republicans-objections-election-results">objected to certifying the election results</a> and <a href="https://projects.propublica.org/represent/members/trump-texas-amicus-house-members">joined a doomed GOP effort</a> to persuade the Supreme Court to overturn the election. In March, he <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2021/03/18/lee-zeldin-biden-election-playbook-interview-476949">struggled to acknowledge Biden's legitimate victory</a>. "Some insist everything President Trump &amp; his supporters claim about the 2020 election is 'evidence free,' Zeldin <a href="https://twitter.com/RepLeeZeldin/status/1345584241854312449">tweeted on January 2</a>, days before the certification vote, Trump rally, and insurrection. "That lie may be easy to rattle off, but it's still a massive, destructive lie that will haunt them on Jan 6th &amp; far into the future."</li><li>Rep. <strong><keyword id="11848027" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="david-kustoff">David Kustoff</keyword></strong> of Tennessee. Rep. Kustoff also <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/1/6/22218058/republicans-objections-election-results">objected to certifying the election results</a> and also <a href="https://projects.propublica.org/represent/members/trump-texas-amicus-house-members">joined the effort</a> to persuade the Supreme Court to overturn the election. He <a href="https://twitter.com/RepDavidKustoff/status/1346883770562080770">repeated unsubstantiated vote-fraud claims</a> in his public statement explaining his choice to object to certifying election results.</li></ul><p>"This is a total affront to the culture of the museum, which is about remembering, and preserving the historical record. But our historical memory of this election and its contested aftermath is being attacked by these election deniers. That's crazy," said Ruth Ben-Ghiat, professor of History and Italian Studies at New York University. Her latest book, "Strongmen," explores how authoritarians use propaganda, corruption, and violence to stay in power. "Having people who wilfully deny the historical record seated on the museum board is a failure of democratic ethics, and needs to be addressed."</p><p>Contacted for comment, a museum spokesperson noted that "The Museum does not appoint the members of its governing Council. On U.S. Holocaust Museum board, some members backed Trump's 'Big Lie' of stolen election

<ul class="summary-list"><li>105 Democrats voted no or "present" on a resolution that declared "anti-Zionism is antisemitism."</li><li>Many took issue with that idea, pointing out that some Jews are anti-Zionist themselves.</li></ul><p>105 House Democrats on Tuesday declined to vote for a resolution condemning antisemitism, pointing to language that equates it with anti-Zionism.</p><p>The <a target="_blank" href="https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2023697">final vote</a> was 311-14, with 13 Democrats and one Republican voting against the resolution.</p><p>With 92 Democrats voting "present" on the resolution, most of the caucus ultimately did not support it.</p><p>On Monday, Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York — the senior Jewish member of the House — spoke out forcefully against the resolution in a floor speech. He later <a target="_blank" href="https://nadler.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=395108">urged</a> his colleagues to vote "present."</p><p>"The resolution… states that all anti-Zionism is antisemitism," said Nadler. "That's either intellectually disingenuous or just factually wrong."</p><p>While many view anti-Zionism as a form of antisemitism, the two ideologies are distinct. <a target="_blank" href="https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/antisemitism">Antisemitism</a> refers to both the historical and contemporary prejudice against Jewish people, while anti-Zionism is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-36160928">opposition</a> to the existence of the state of Israel.</p><p>The Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights organization with a strong pro-Israel bent, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/anti-zionism">argues</a> that anti-Zionism is antisemitic because it "renders Jews less worthy of sovereignty and nationhood than other peoples and states."</p><p>But Nadler pointed out that many of his former constituents in Brooklyn, including Orthodox Jewish communities, have <a target="_blank" href="https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/anti-zionism-among-jews">long held anti-Zionist views</a>, believing that the modern, secular state of Israel is at odds with religious prophesies about the return of Jews to the Land of Israel.</p><p>Furthermore, many progressive Jews, including Jewish Voice for Peace, also <a target="_blank" href="https://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/resource/zionism/">describe themselves</a> as anti-Zionist.</p><p>Nadler on Monday introduced his <a target="_blank" href="https://nadler.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=395106">own resolution</a> on anti-Semitism, arguing it goes further in mitigating the problem than the Republican-proposed resolution.</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Rep. David Kustoff of Tennessee, one of just two Jewish Republicans in the House.</p><p>Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, a leading House progressive, told Business Insider earlier on Tuesday that he was unsure how he would vote on the resolution while expressing frustration with the broader <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/which-house-members-vote-against-present-resolution-israel-right-exist-2023-11">spate</a> of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/which-lawmakers-voted-against-israel-resolution-hamas-attacks-progressives-2023-10">pro-Israel resolutions</a> that have <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/which-house-democrats-vote-against-resolution-israel-racist-apartheid-state-2023-7">hit the floor</a> in recent months.</p><p>"I have to admit, I'm kind of over the weekly stuff that they're putting out there that means nothing," said Pocan, saying he was unsure whether to "start doing 'present' votes on stupid things, or just vote 'no' on stupid things, or just say 'yes' because they're stupid things."</p><p>Last week, the House voted on a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/which-house-members-vote-against-present-resolution-israel-right-exist-2023-11">resolution</a> affirming Israel's right to exist, with Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky voting against it and Democratic Rep. "But I do believe that denying Jews a state is antisemitic, so I plan to vote for the bill. There are misunderstandings about antisemitism and a lack of appreciation for its rise. It was the first of three planned hearings, which aim to investigate the main players at the center of the GameStop drama in January.</p><p>Rep. Jim Himes, a former Goldman Sachs banker, was not so convinced with Tenev's claim. He argued that if Robinhood would not reveal how much its clients invested on the trading platform, then it would not be possible to calculate the return on their investments.</p><p>"You threw out the number of $35 billion," Himes said. "I actually think the right comparison is: What if your clients had simply invested in an S&amp;P 500 index fund? Would that number be more than $35 billion, or less?"</p><p>But Tenev said that the representative was making the wrong comparison.</p><p>"Congressman, with respect, I don't think the right comparison is investing in an S&amp;P 500 index fund," the Robinhood CEO said. "I think the right comparison is not having invested at all and having instead spent that money."</p><p>When pressed, this time, by Rep. David Kustoff, on the company's controversial payment for order flow model, wherein customers' trades are directed to third parties for execution, Tenev admitted that it was indeed Robinhood's largest source of revenue.</p><p>Rep. Maxine Waters followed up with the same question on whether whose best interest it was that Robinhood was selling customers' trades, which Tenev mostly avoided. Robinhood in December paid a <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/robinhood-65-million-settlement-sec-probe-misleading-statements-order-flow-2020-12-1029902927">$65 million penalty in December 2020</a> for "misleading" communications with customers around its payment for order flow practices.</p><p>The hearing scrutinized events that took place in January, when day traders organizing on <keyword id="334157" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Reddit">Reddit</keyword> drove up the share price of GameStop, initiating a "short-squeeze" on hedge funds that had been betting against the video game retailer. </p><p>The stock went on a dizzying climb, only for it to come crashing back down following restrictions on the stock by Robinhood and other brokerages. The episode has drawn the attention of the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulators. </p><p>Others summoned to Washington to testify included Citadel chief executive Ken Griffin, Melvin Capital hedge-fund manager Gabe Plotkin, and Keith Gill, also known as Roaring Kitty, among others. However, most of the attention was directed at Tenev, who received intense questioning mainly regarding Robinhood's business model.</p><p>Representatives blamed Robinhood for failing to protect retail investors. Some questioned whether the commission-free feature levels the playing field or leads to unsound market practices.</p><p>"There is an innate tension in your business model between democratizing finance, which is a noble calling, and being a conduit to feed fish to sharks," Rep. Sean Casten said.</p><p>Representatives from both parties agreed that short selling should be more tightly regulated, or at least more transparent.</p><p>"If we've learned anything from the past few weeks, it's that these average, everyday investors are pretty darn sophisticated," Mr. McHenry said.</p>

Trump has over the past two months announced tariffs on trade partners including China, the EU, Canada, and Mexico, with many of them announcing retaliatory measures.</p><p>He added that his administration achieved "historically low unmeployment numbers, especially for African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and Women."</p><p>The US economy added almost 3.5 million jobs, but the Obama administration also contributed to a large job growth streak, <a href="https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2018/jul/27/fact-checking-donald-trumps-points-about-economy/">PolitiFact reported</a>.</p><p>The president noted <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1023534604148518912">in a separate tweet</a>: "Wow, highest Poll Numbers in the history of the Republican Party. That includes Honest Abe Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.</p><p>"There must be something wrong, please recheck that poll!</p><p>It's unclear which poll he was referring to.
