New Delhi, With the Centre-farmer talks ending in a stalemate, thousands of <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">farmers</keyword> stayed put at Delhi borders on Wednesday to press for repeal of the agri marketing laws. A meeting called by Home Minister <keyword id="6355521" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amit-shah">Amit Shah</keyword> ended in failure on Tuesday night as farmer leaders rejected the government's offer to amend new farm laws, saying they would settle for nothing less than the scrapping of the legislations. The sixth round of talks between the government and farmer unions to end the protests on Delhi's various borders, which was scheduled on Wednesday, has been cancelled. This comes after many farm leaders had threatened to boycott the talks. As the protests continued, traffic was disrupted at border points with farmers agitating on the the <keyword id="10347936" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="singhu">Singhu</keyword>, TIkri and Ghazipur borders of Delhi. Taking to Twitter, <keyword id="9602467" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-delhi-traffic-police">the Delhi Traffic Police</keyword> alerted commuters about that the Tikri, Jharoda, Dhansa Borders are closed for any traffic movement. However, Jhatikara border is open only for two wheelers and pedestrian movement. It also said that those travelling to Haryana can take <keyword id="2669169" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="daurala">Daurala</keyword>, Kapashera, Badusarai, Rajokri NH 8, Bijwasan/Bajghera, Palam Vihar and Dundahera Borders. "Singhu, Auchandi, Piao Maniyari, Mangesh borders are closed. NH-44 is closed on both sides. Farmer leaders insist on scrapping of agri legislations, fresh talks cancelled

New Delhi, The Delhi Police on Tuesday closed the <keyword id="4046841" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="chilla-border">Chilla border</keyword> connecting Delhi to the UP link road towards Noida due to the farmers' protest. The Singhu and Tikri borders are already closed by Delhi Traffic police for any vehicular movement which has caused traffic diversions at various points in the national capital region as the farmers agitation entered its sixth day. <keyword id="9602467" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-delhi-traffic-police">The Delhi Traffic Police</keyword> after closing the Chilla border advised motorists to take alternative routes towards Noida after taking a U-turn from under the Ghazipur, Akshardham flyover and also from Sarai Kale Khan. While the Tikri border, Jharoda Border, Jhatikra Border are closed for any traffic movement, the Badusarai Border is open only for two wheeler traffic. "Available Open Borders to Haryana are Dhansa, Daurala, Kapashera, Rajokri NH-8,Bijwasan/Bajghera, Palam Vihar and Dundahera," said a senior Traffic police officer. 'Delhi chalo': After Singhu and Tikri, Delhi Police closes Chilla border due to farmers' protest

Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and other parts of the country have been camping at Delhi's <keyword id="52790" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="borders">borders</keyword> for the past 10 days to demand a repeal of the agriculture reform laws. The Delhi Traffic Police took to Twitter to inform commuters about alternative routes open for travelling to the neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. It advised those commuting to Delhi to come via the DND instead of Noida Link road. Chilla border on Noida link road is closed for traffic from Noida to Delhi due to the farmers' protest near Gautam Budh Dwar. "The Ghazipur border on NH 24 is closed for traffic from Ghaziabad to Delhi due to farmers' protests. People are advised to avoid NH 24 for coming to Delhi and use Apsara/Bhopra/DND for coming to Delhi," it tweeted. Tikri and Jharoda borders are closed for traffic movement but Badusarai border is open only for light motor vehicle like cars and two wheelers, it said. "Singhu, Auchandi, Lampur, Piao Maniyari, Mangesh borders are closed. NH 44 is closed on both sides," the police said. It advised commuters to take alternate routes via Safiabad, Saboli, NH8, Bhopra, Apsara borders, and Peripheral expressway. People travelling to Haryana can take Dhansa, Daurala, Kapashera, Rajokri NH 8, Bijwasan, Bajghera, Palam Vihar and Dundahera borders, the police said. Enacted in September, the three farm laws are anticipated to bring "reforms" in the agriculture sector by removing middlemen and allowing farmers to sell their produce anywhere in the country. Farmers worry these laws will eliminate the safety net of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and do away with mandis that ensure earning. But the government says the MSP system will continue and the new laws will give farmers more options to sell their crop. Efforts are underway by the unions to draw <keyword id="6367209" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="support">support</keyword> from farmers in other states like Bihar for their demand to enact a law assuring <keyword id="76332" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Minimum-Support-Price">Minimum Support Price</keyword> as the protest at the border points have been going on for almost four weeks now. On Monday, the farmers held a relay hunger strike at various protest sites in batches of 11. It advised commuters to take alternative routes through the Lampur, Safiabad Saboli and Singhu school toll tax borders. Police said that as traffic has been diverted from Mukarba and the GTK road, people are suggested to avoid Outer Ring Road, the GTK road and National Highway (NH) 44. Those travelling to Haryana can go through the Jharoda (only single carriageway), Daurala, Kapashera, Badusarai, Rajokri NH-8, Bijwasan-Bajghera, Palam Vihar and Dundahera borders. According to the traffic police, Tikri and Dhansa borders are also closed for traffic but the Jhatikara border was open only for two-wheelers and pedestrians. At the Chilla border, the Delhi to Noida carriageway is open for traffic. The Noida to Delhi carriageway is, however, closed. The Ghazipur border was also closed for traffic movement. Enacted in September, the three farm laws have been projected by the central government as major reforms in the agriculture sector that will remove the middlemen and allow farmers to sell anywhere in the country. However, the protesting farmers have expressed apprehension that the new laws would pave the way for eliminating the safety cushion of Minimum Support Price and do away with the mandi system, leaving them at the mercy of big corporates. The government has repeatedly asserted that the MSP and mandi systems will stay and has accused the opposition of misleading the farmers. Farmer union leaders to meet today to decide on further discussions with government

There is no protest yet on Delhi's borders with Gurgaon and at other points of National Highway-8 that connects the national capital with Jaipur, a senior police officer said. "So far, there is no protest at Delhi-Gurgaon border. There is no disruption in traffic movement. However, we have <keyword id="10421168" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="proper-security-arrangements">proper security arrangements</keyword> in place to deal with any situation," the officer said. Taking to Twitter, social activist Yogendra Yadav, who is part of the ongoing protests, said farmers from areas in Rajasthan and Haryana are assembling on Saturday and their 'Delhi Chalo' march would begin on Sunday. "Farmers' 'Delhi march' on <keyword id="817624" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaipur-Delhi">Jaipur-Delhi</keyword> highway will not start today and it will begin from Shahjahanpur border tomorrow. The increase in security arrangement comes amid thousands of farmers protesting at various areas on Delhi's borders for the last 16 days and demanding that the legislations be withdrawn. The police have made adequate arrangements and these include multi-layered barricading and deployment of personnel. Measures have also been taken to ensure commuters do not face inconvenience at places were protest are being staged, another senior police officer said. The Delhi Traffic Police has deployed its personnel across important border points to ensure commuters do not face difficulties and is constantly updating people about open and closed routes on its Twitter handle. The developments come after farmer leaders on Wednesday rejected a government proposal to amend the new agri laws and announced they would intensify their agitation by blocking the Jaipur-Delhi and the Yamuna expressway by Saturday. In a tweet, the traffic police on Saturday informed commuters about the closure of the Singhu, Auchandi, Piau Maniyari and Mangesh borders. Since these borders are closed, it suggested that motorists take alternative routes via Lampur, Safiabad,Saboli and Singhu School toll tax borders.
