To accomplish this, that meant the actors would have to do a lot of practice."Having four months of training prior really helped out tremendously," Hernandez told Insider. "It's a lot of work, self-sacrifice, pain, and bruises. Because it's all for real. No cheats. No stunt doubles."To make that plane fight work, Hernandez said the training was all done in steps, or as he called them "segments.""I would start with a six-beat segment," he said. "Correcting all the hand positions and footwork."Hernandez would even have Theron and Layne do the fight moves by themselves repeatedly in front of a mirror to watch how they were doing it and get it right.Then they would elevate to working with a stunt partner to do the fight segment. Once they mastered it, they would evolve to more segments of the plane fight. Often the actors would train for a week on each segment.Here's a glimpse at some of that training from a video Theron posted on Twitter:Through the months, the segments would grow until finally both Theron and Layne could do the entire plane fight sequence on their own.Then it was time for both actors to "fight" against one another."Closer to filming the scene we were doing the whole thing multiple times a day to build up their cardio," Hernandez said. Fewer than 1% of beneficiaries have been audited, yielding no taxes, the whistleblower said."My understanding is that no assessments have been made by any office nationwide for a campaign that has been open for three years," the letter said. The NYT-reviewed document has sparked a Senate investigation, and lawmakers are now urging the enforcement campaign to pick up speed.The IRS' high-profile operation centers on a 2012 tax break that allows new Puerto Rican residents to not pay local taxes on investment income made when residing on the island. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tax-breaks-puerto-rico-wealthy-americans-housing-prices-job-opportunities-2024-3#:~:text=Many%20of%20those%20people%20are,accrued%20while%20on%20the%20island.">Such benefits</a> are common on the island territory, offered to entice wealthier Americans and corporations to move there.While on the surface this benefit would seem easy to apply — it's chiefly determined by where the investor lives — complications arise when an investment made outside of Puerto Rico leads to a profit after the residents move to the island. However, concerns have risen that investors are ignoring this and exempting the entirety of their profits.The IRS opened its probe into the issue after the 2020 indictment of Gabriel Hernandez, an accountant accused of offering to help wealthy Americans exploit the 2012 tax break, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-07-12/irs-probes-puerto-rico-tax-breaks-that-lured-crypto-traders-fund-managers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bloomberg</a> reported. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty.However, according to the whistleblower's letter, few enforcement actions have actually been taken against those who may be abusing the benefit. For instance, the IRS will typically send out "soft letters" to any scrutinized beneficiaries, encouraging them to voluntarily fix any potential issue with their taxes. If the estimated cost per thousand tons of displacement for the new frigate is set about equal to that of the DDG-51 destroyer, then the cost for the final 18 frigates jumps to $1.47 billion each.The Navy awarded a fixed-price contract for the frigate, meaning the awardee is on the hook for costs over the contract amount.That "limits the government's risk in contract execution," Capt. Danny Hernandez, spokesman for the Navy's acquisition office, told Bloomberg. However, the company claims that this will be the first supercomputer integrated with the cloud. The computer will be linked to Microsoft’s own Azure infrastructure in order to train large artificial intelligence (AI) models, it announced during the annual <keyword id="9249551" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="microsoft-build-2020">Microsoft Build 2020</keyword> conference. The supercomputer is a single system with more than 285,000 CPU cores and 10,000 GPUs. On top of that, each GPU server has 400 gigabits per second of network connectivity. The supercomputer has been built in collaboration and exclusively for the US-based OpenAI, who’s machine learning (ML) efficiency has been getting more efficient by the day — double every 16 months, outpacing even Moore’s law — according to a paper by <a href="https://openai.com/blog/ai-and-efficiency/">Danny Hernandez and Tom Brown</a>, which is yet to peer-reviewed. “We are seeing that larger-scale systems are an important component in training more powerful models,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said. Single task AI models vs multitasking AI models Historically, data scientists have built smaller AI models that use labelled examples to learn a single task — like translating a language, recognising objects or to deliver the day’s weather report. In a multitasking AI model, one model will be able to meet one than one end goal. For instance, if a model can understand the nuances of language — like the human intent behind a statement — the same algorithm can be used to analyse billions of pages of text, moderate chat content, or even generate code. “This is about being able to do a hundred exciting things in natural language processing at once and a hundred exciting things in computer vision, and when you start to see combinations of these perceptual domains, you’re going to have new applications that are hard to even imagine right now,” said Microsoft’s Chief Technical Officer Kevin Scott, explaining how the application of the supercomputer for AI will the birth of a new class of multitasking AI models. The recipes for training AI models will soon be open-source Microsoft’s Turing Model for natural language generation — the largest publicly available AI language model in the world — was released earlier this year. It has over 17 billion parameters. Today, the company announced that it will begin open-sourcing its Turing models along with how-to guides on how to train them using Azure’s Machine Learning. “This has enabled things that were seemingly impossible with smaller models,” said Luis Vargas, a Microsoft partner technical advisor who is spearheading the company’s AI at Scale initiative. This way, not just Microsoft, but other developers will be able to use the models to improve language understanding across its products. To help that long, DeepSeed, an open-source deep-learning library for PyTorch — a scientific computing package — which helps reduce the computing power required to sum large distributed model training, has also gotten an upgrade. According to Microsoft, the model can now train models which are 15 times larger and 10 times faster, as compared to DeepSeed’s earlier version which was released three months ago. He has increasingly discussed his 2016 effort with the South Bend nonprofit <a href="http://lacasadeamistad.org/">La Casa de Amistad</a> to <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/buttigieg-s-big-accomplishment-he-never-mentions-campaign-trail-n1015251">develop a "Community Resident Card"</a> that undocumented immigrants can use at city agencies and businesses, including schools, libraries, pharmacies, and banks. La Casa de Amistad funded the program and distributed the cards, while the mayor signed an executive order requiring South Bend institutions to accept them as ID."One thing I realized very quickly as mayor is that I'm responsible for supporting every resident of our community regardless of citizenship status, and we saw a lot of people who were at risk because they didn't have a way to get ID," Buttigieg told Insider.South Bend is home to roughly 4,500 undocumented immigrants, and more than 2,000 have reportedly signed up for the Community Resident Card. Individual divisions began announcing newly promoted MDs last Friday, including <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/citigroup-announces-137-new-managing-directors-in-trading-dealmaking-2019-12">137 in the firm's Institutional Clients Group</a>, which houses its dealmaking and sales and trading teams, and 25 in its Global Consumer bank. Another 58 promotions came in other areas of the firm, such as risk management, legal, and HR.Women represented 28% of the promotions, up from 25% last year. "This well-deserved honor is a significant career milestone for these individuals, and we can all take pride in their contributions to our firm. Tom doesn't like this, so he's taking matters into his own hands.
On NFL GameDay Morning on Sunday, <a href="http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/23785101/report-pats-qb-brady-calling-branch-lloyd-about-returning">Ian Rapoport said Brady has been calling and texting ex-Patriot receivers</a> trying to get them to come back and play again. From CBS:
"The Patriots' brass may believe they are set at wide receiver but Tom Brady does not," Rapoport said on NFL GameDay Morning. "We're told that Brady himself has been calling and texting two familiar faces: Deion Branch and Brandon Lloyd. As far as Branch, he's sitting ready for whenever the Patriots call. Lloyd, however, has said that he's not quite ready to play football."
Deion Branch, who was drafted by the Pats in 2002 is currently a free agent, and Brandon Lloyd who is taking some time off from playing football, is also a free agent.
Let's hope something happens for Tom so he can calm down a bit.

But the industry rallied by releasing no shortage of ambitious and exciting new projects, which brought their own set of breakthroughs in the world of special effects.From massive battle and fight sequences to some of the most realistic practical effects we've ever seen, here's a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the biggest films of the year. Three, two, one!To play the legendary warrior <keyword id="3026859" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Mulan">Mulan</keyword> in Disney's live-action film, Liu Yifei spent three months training for up to seven hours a day. This demanding regimen paid off. The film's cinematographer, Mandy Walker, told insider that Yifei was able to execute about 90% of her own stunt work.In preparation for the film's acrobatic fight sequences, Yifei and her castmates were schooled in everything from weapons handling and archery to military marching and horseback riding. The performers did their most dramatic midair stunts while attached to wires or beams so that it looked like their characters were flying or spinning through the air.All in all, the film's action sequences required 90 horses, 80 trick riders, 4,000 prop weapons, 281 sets of armor for the Chinese army, and 730 pieces of armor for the Rouran army.How do you create a terrifying monster out of nothing? It turns out, with a lot of clever camera and stunt work. This scene from "<keyword id="920693" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="the-Invisible-Man">The Invisible Man</keyword>," where the titular villain throws Elisabeth Moss' character across the table, is actually a bunch of shots stitched together.First, the crew filmed Elisabeth as she was about to be thrown. Next, they swapped in the actor's stunt double and filmed her being thrown by another stunt performer in a green suit. Then they swapped in Elisabeth again. In postproduction, VFX artists combined the plates, then digitally erased the green-suit performer and the ropes used for the stunt.For it all to match up perfectly, the crew had to shoot the whole thing with a motion-controlled camera, which could be programmed to perform precise, repeatable camera movements.That wasn't the only bit of camera trickery in the film. On the last day of shooting, when filming this scene, the camera team had to get what they called "an impossible shot" -- one that involved passing a camera out of a moving car into another moving car, all in one smooth handoff."Extraction" marked the directorial debut of Sam Hargrave, the veteran stunt coordinator behind "Atomic Blonde" and a number of Marvel movies. Naturally, then, the Netflix thriller was full of daredevil stunt work -- just as much from the camera crew as from the actors and stunt performers.The centerpiece of the film was what the crew referred to as "the oner" -- an extended fight scene made to look like one continuous shot. Sam is familiar with big, long action sequences from working on the famous one-shot fight in "Atomic Blonde." But this one for "Extraction" required Sam to take us right into the middle of the action, even strapping himself to the hood of a chase vehicle. Just to get this one smooth shot taking us from outside to inside a car, he had to unstrap himself from that one car, run over to the other vehicle, and then repeat the same shot twice. This is what you call a stitch point, one of the invisible cuts that joined about 36 different segments into what looks like one long, seamless 12-minute take.For the third installment in the "Bill &amp; Ted" franchise, special effects legend Kevin Yagher created special bodysuits for scenes where Bill and Ted meet future versions of themselves.The process began with lifecasts of Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves' bodies, which were then used to sculpt the shape of the actors' suits, both the muscle suits they wear in the prison scene and Keanu's fat suit worn in a different scene. Kevin and his team sculpted and spray-painted tiny details like pores and veins onto the muscle suits and added bags of beads into Keanu's fat suit to get just the right jiggle in his belly.[beads shaking]The rollout of the "<keyword id="163980" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sonic">Sonic</keyword>" movie got off to a rough start when the first trailer was met with backlash from fans who objected to this Sonic's disturbingly realistic appearance. In response, the VFX artists gave the character an overhaul, making his eyes bigger, his mouth more animated, and his nose and limbs more cartoonish, more like the original design in the video games.Just about everyone liked the redesign better, including the man behind the hedgehog, actor and comedian Ben Schwartz. Ben not only lent his voice to Sonic, but also provided facial motion capture to inform the character's animation. On set, they used different stand-ins for Sonic to give costars like James Marsden something tangible to interact with, whether it was a blue stuffy or just a ball on a tripod.We saw CGI turn man into hedgehog. What about turning man into dog?In this year's remake of "The Call of the Wild," veteran motion-capture performer Terry Notary provided an incredible mo-cap performance for the movie's canine protagonist, Buck. Having Terry on set provided a raw-size reference for the other actors and gave costars someone to interact with emotionally.For Buck's design, the filmmakers used the reference of a real-life shelter dog, whose own name happens to be Buckley. To help guide the animation of the many dog and wolf characters in the film, the team brought in five other dogs for a mo-cap playtime session. But don't worry; no pups were involved in the filming of this scene, where Buck and John Thornton navigate a treacherous river.The filmmakers enlisted a stuntperson to shoot the real deal on a river in British Columbia. They then combined the on-location shots with blue-screen footage of Harrison Ford paddling on a canoe gimbal, filmed on a motion-controlled camera that allowed for some particularly cinematic, sweeping shots. Finally, VFX artists digitally added Harrison's canine friend into the mix in postproduction.The character in "Onward" that presented Pixar with the most challenges was this guy, known simply as Dad. He's introduced when Ian, voiced by Tom Holland, carries out a spell to conjure up his late father, but only half of his body appears.Pixar's animators spent a lot of time on Dad's first scene to make sure it would capture the force and unpredictability of magic. They even took turns blasting each other with a leaf blower to get a feel for what the conjuring effect should look like.From there, the challenge was giving life to a pair of pants, a task that forced Pixar to bring its cloth technology to a new level. The studio used a process called simulation to program how a character's clothing should respond to his or her movements and the different forces acting on them. But because Dad's upper half is all clothes and no body, simulation played an even bigger role than usual.To figure out how a person would move if he were missing his top half, Pixar's animators took turns putting on green suits with khakis and moving around in front of a green screen. Later, they digitally removed their top halves and used the footage as reference for what Dad's body language might look like."The Call of the Wild" wasn't the only film where CG animals figured prominently. The majority of scenes in "Dolittle" feature live-action humans and CG animals interacting in some way.The tricky part of that: making sure the humans were looking in the right places during filming. Nailing the eyelines was especially challenging with a character like Betsy the giraffe. To help guide the actors on set, the crew used stuffy props as stand-ins for the CG animals and got creative from there.Like with Betsy, for instance. They ended up sticking a giraffe head on a long pole, which got driven around on a motor cart. In another scene, Robert Downey Jr. needed to ride the ostrich Plimpton into Buckingham Palace. So they devised a gimballed riding rig that they could later replace with a CG creature, voiced by Kumail Nanjiani.The action-heavy "<keyword id="3367480" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Birds-Of-Prey">Birds of Prey</keyword>" involved a lot of physical preparation, with each actor's training program tailored to her particular character. Since Harley Quinn is a whimsical and unpredictable fighter, Margot Robbie's stunt work involved a lot of gymnastics.Black Canary's fighting style was supposed to be more grounded with a lot of legwork, so Jurnee Smollett-Bell's preparation combined tae kwon do and kickboxing. And Mary Elizabeth Winstead adopted judo, jujitsu, and karate to play Huntress, the deadly-accurate assassin who's all about precision.Early on in Netflix's "Project Power," there's an unforgettable scene where Machine Gun Kelly's character spontaneously bursts into flames. To figure out how to turn MGK into a human fireball, the effects team first set stuntpeople on fire in a series of camera tests.Then they came up with a breakthrough: an LED suit that would be embedded within layers of burn prosthetics. The LEDs were programmed to illuminate the actor as his character is seen exploding in flames. The gruesome prosthetics helped hide the LED strips, along with all the wires and battery packs.For MGK, this meant spending five hours in the makeup chair every day of shooting to get hundreds of prosthetic pieces glued on over 95% of his body. The process was so intensive that the rapper started just sleeping in his body prosthetics, and did so for five days straight, even wearing them for a night out on the town with costar Jamie Foxx.For Netflix's "Jingle Jangle," the biggest challenge was creating a fantastical world where magic and spontaneous musical numbers would feel right at home.To make Jeronicus fly in this scene, the crew attached Forest Whitaker to wire rigs, later removed in postproduction.Another particularly fun sequence, the kids' factory escape, was shot in front of a blue screen, with the two young actors rigged to the wooden chest. VFX artists later added in the tunnel and the giant fan and fireball.In this comic-book adaptation, Charlize Theron's character is supposed to have 6,000 years of martial arts experience, ranging from Greco-Roman wrestling to Filipino stick work. Charlize had to do intense combat training so she could look effortless handling both modern and ancient weapons.Of course, the star is no stranger to this kind of hardcore training, having done a lot of her own stunts for "Atomic Blonde" and "Mad Max." The "Old Guard" fight coordinator, Danny Hernandez, told Insider that Charlize and Kiki Layne spent four months training for the film's major fight sequence, where their characters engage in epic hand-to-hand combat inside a plane mid-flight.The payoff? The actors were able to pull off 90% of the fight themselves, without stunt doubles.How does this shot become this? Through the process of CG lighting, which was especially important to building the magical worlds of Netflix's animated film "Over the Moon."Creative lighting helped emphasize the dreamy light coming from the moon, which plays a central role in the story. In this shot, the lighting team is perfecting the big, bright moon reflections in Fei Fei's eyes. And in this shot, they're balancing the different light sources coming from the moon, the kitchen, and the colorful lanterns.These decisions about the intensity and placement of lights are laid out early on in color scripts, which are like artistic blueprints, expressing the mood of any given scene.For the scenes set on Lunaria, the artists wanted the light to be overpowering and the colors vibrant and bold to give an otherworldly aura to the moon kingdom and invoke a sense of awe in the audience.The horror movie slash political satire "The Hunt" follows a group of liberals hunting conservatives for sport, so there were lots of opportunities for practical gore <keyword id="37533" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Behind-the-scenes">behind the scenes</keyword>.But the most talked-about sequence was the climactic kitchen fight between Betty Gilpin and Hilary Swank. To make the head-to-head between these two characters feel as messy as possible, the crew designed a special set that was made to be destroyed.The set included foam floors, a chimney rigged with squibs, and a bunch of household-item breakaway props that were built to be broken, just like this glass window, which shatters in this scene. It was like a twisted jungle gym, meant to serve as the ideal backdrop for all the chaotic violence.So, did we miss anything? The calm and collected Brady we're used to is gone this season.
Now, Brady is reportedly taking matters into his own hands. Today, <a href="http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/23785101/report-pats-qb-brady-calling-branch-lloyd-about-returning">reports came out that Brady himself has called Deion Branch and Brandon Lloyd</a> to try and get them to come back to the Pats and play wide receiver.
Ian Rapoport said on NFL Gameday Morning:
"The Patriots' brass may believe they are set at wide receiver but Tom Brady does not. We're told that Brady himself has been calling and texting two familiar faces: Deion Branch and Brandon Lloyd. As far as Branch, he's sitting ready for whenever the Patriots call. Lloyd, however, has said that he's not quite ready to play football."
As for his on-field freak outs? After the Jets game last week, Brady said <a href="http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000243444/article/tom-brady-i-need-to-improve-my-body-language">he needed to improve his body language</a>. But even this week, his frustration is getting the best of him.
The Pats are 2-0 and most likely about to beat the Bucs, but it's definitely not going as smoothly as Brady would like it.

Tom Brady Is Freaking Out

The sports calender is a little light right now. Following the alternating nightly rush of watching the NBA or NHL finals all June, the July lull leaves sports fans itching for a fix.
The <keyword id="103436" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="NFL">NFL</keyword> hiatus breaks July 23 when the Arizona Cardinals start the <keyword id="6420994" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Training-camp">training camp</keyword> season. Since the end of last season you have likely been mulling over a few areas of concern for your favorite team, and contemplating transactions and draft picks. 
Training camp offers clues. Is the revamped offensive line holding its own? How's the top rookie looking? Were the free agency dollars well spent?
With training camp less than two weeks away we take a look at one major question in every AFC division.
AFC East: New England is stumbling, but does it matter?
The Patriots' top five receivers from last season are gone or on the mend. Wes Welker went to the Broncos, Rob Gronkowski is rehabbing from back and forearm surgery, Danny Woodhead is a Charger, Brandon Lloyd is unemployed and Aaron Hernandez <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/aaron-hernandez-murder-timeline-2013-6">has been accused of murder</a>. Are free agent signings Danny Amendola and Michael Jenkins the answers? 
Even if the New England offense isn't the finely tuned machine we are used to watching, it likely won't matter. Who else can win this division? Kevin Kolb and his Bills? Second year quarterback Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins? Don't start with the Jets. Miami might be the best of the bunch with rookie pass rusher Dion Jordan and free agent receiver Mike Wallace in the fold, but we don't see anyone taking this division from the Pats.
AFC North: Can the champs sustain as they reload?
The Ravens defense was nothing special last year, allowing a middle of the pack 21.5 points per game last season. But how will the loss of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed impact the defending champions? The addition of Elvis Dumervil, <a href="http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on-football/21939833/elvis-dumervil-ravens-agree-to-terms-on-five-year-contract">thanks to a clerical error</a>, gives the defense a pair of whirling dervish edge rushers along with Terrell Suggs.
Perhaps the biggest loss will be receiver Anquan Boldin, who was traded to San Francisco. The 32-year-old receiver finally looked like the pass catching machine everyone envisioned when he joined Baltimore in 2010, grabbing 22 balls for 380 yards and four touchdowns in the postseason. 
The loss of several key pieces will likely prevent the Ravens from repeating, and others in the division look capable of capitalizing on a comparable late season hot streak.
The Bengals, like the Ravens, were 10-6 last year. After knocking on the doorstep for two seasons, Cincinnati may be ready to break through. The defense is expected to be one of the best in the league and the addition of Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert gives the Bengals a fearsome tight end duo with Jermaine Gresham. 
If Pittsburgh can get a full season from Ben Roethlisberger they too will be in the mix. The ability of Emmanuel Sanders to replace deep threat Mike Wallace will play a big factor in the Steelers offensive balance. After averaging an anemic 96.1 rushing yards per game, the Steelers must rediscover their ground game, whether its with rookie Le'Veon Bell or last year's leader Jonathan Dwyer. 
AFC South: Will the Luck continue in Indianapolis?
Despite a -12 turnover differential, a 22nd ranked rushing game, 21st ranked pass defense and 29th ranked rushing defense, the Colts went 11-5. Is that a miracle season, or a warning shot? It's hard to tell if the Colts will win more games with better stats or were a team that thrived on the struggle. Quarterback Andrew Luck will be in his second season, but the Colts remain an enigma.
Once again the division will run through Houston, and again the question will be if the Texans are able to get over the hump. They looked like the best team in the league at times last year before stumbling late and bowing out to the Patriots in the divisional round. The stretch running game will continue and anything less than a Super Bowl will be a disappointment in Houston. 
Tennessee and Jacksonville, meanwhile, are in shambles. Ryan Fitzpatrick will challenge Jake Locker for the Titans quarterback job and the selection of guard Chance Warmack will finally lead to some open holes for Chris Johnson to run through. It's hard to see the Jaguars being anything but the worst team in the league, again.
AFC West: Will Rahim Moore stay deep?
The Denver free safety's offseason was shorter than most—his team made the playoffs—but no one's offseason dragged longer. It was Moore's blown coverage that led to this play in the waning seconds of regulation in the division playoffs:

The Broncos would go on to lose, reminding fans that sometimes a year's worth of preparation and work can fall apart with a single mistake. It was Ravens only the year prior who saw their Super Bowl dreams fade on a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIH-GrnnPVM">Lee Evans dropped touchdown</a>. The Broncos return as the overwhelming favorites in their division, adding Wes Welker to an already solid receiving corps. This team has what it takes to win a Super Bowl, the only question will be execution.
