A Mother Dairy spokesperson said that the dairy industry has been experiencing a consistent surge in raw milk prices, which has increased by about ₹ 3/kg in the last two months alone, owing to multifold increase in varied input costs. "Increased fodder prices and low rainfall in some northern states have aggravated the situation. We are therefore compelled to revise prices to support farmers and ensure availability of quality milk for consumers," he said. Earlier, during the day, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (<keyword id="134812" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="GCMMF" source="Orion">GCMMF</keyword>), which sells milk and milk products under the brand name 'Amul' had announced raising the rates of full cream milk and buffalo milk by ₹ 2 per litre amid the festive season. Both the major dairy brands, Amul and Mother Dairy had in August hiked milk prices by ₹ 2 per litre to compensate the increase in procurement costs. The shares of Dodla Dairy continued to rise and were trading at ₹600 at 10.27 a.m. The grey market had indicated a strong listing of Dodla Dairy company as it stayed around ₹70-90 premium per share, according to <a href="https://www.ipowatch.in/p/ipo-grey-market-premium-latest-ipo-grey.html">IPOwatch</a>. Mumbai, Feb 13 () <keyword id="108820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="milk-prices">Milk prices</keyword>, which have risen by Rs 4-5 per litre over the past nine months, are likely to stabilise in 2020-21 as production is expected to pick up due to abundant water availability and anticipated normal monsoon, according to a report. Production of <keyword id="6362951" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="milk">milk</keyword> has been shrinking since April last year due to high summer temperatures and lower availability of water, made worse by delay in rainfall, ratings agency <keyword id="6359483" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Crisil">Crisil</keyword> said in the report. This was followed by floods in various parts of the country, leading to poor animal health. Also, water logging in green pastures kept animals from grazing and damage to crops such as maize and sugarcane, which are used for fodder, crimped fodder availability, leading to lower milk production in the country, it added. This fiscal, milk production is expected to be lower by 5-6 per cent year-on-year at 176 million tonnes. The flush season that usually begins in November-December is estimated to have shifted by 1-2 months because of the delayed monsoon.

 Crisil said milk prices began moving up in May 2019, with Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF, better known as Amul) and Mother Dairy hiking the maximum retail price of their full-cream milk pouches by Rs 2 per litre. The two giants followed this up with a further hike of Rs 2 and Rs 3 per litre, respectively, in December, taking it to Rs 55 per litre. Other large dairy processors have started following suit, spurred by the shortfall in milk production around the country, and thereby supply. However, Crisil said milk production is expected to pick up in 2020-21, given abundant water in reservoirs and expectations of a normal monsoon. That should arrest any further rise in milk procurement and retail prices. Further, rabi sowing area had increased 10 per cent as on January 31, 2020. This is expected to lead to a 12 per cent increase in crop production for the season and higher arrivals of key crops such as wheat, bajra, jowar and maize from March would mean copious fodder availability, which should raise milk production next fiscal, the report said. This is expected to stabilise milk procurement costs, bolstering the operating margins of dairy processors. So, milk prices are not expected to rise any further in the coming few quarters, unless monsoons spoil the game for processors, it added. India will have to live with high milk prices for at least a few more months

Not only was Chittoor adjoining Chennai, but the company was also able to cater to Bangalore as its market from there. “We still have gaps in <keyword id="57743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Southern-India">southern India</keyword> in the short term. For example, Maharashtra as a state is a gap for us. Karnataka is a gap for us. Down south of Tamil Nadu with Coimbatore and Tuticorin — that is a gap for us,” Sunil Reddy, the managing director of Dodla Dairy, told Business Insider in an interview. Rather than expand into new territory and take on risk, the dairy company wants to strengthen its foothold in areas where it is already building its customer base. This includes Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “We want to fill these gaps, increase our product mix portfolio, move up our value adds, and be more present in distribution stores — that is our immediate future focus,” explained Reddy. The process that Dodla follows right now is to set up a plant, procure workers, and penetrate the nearest market and local markets. “Once that is saturated we add another 200 kilometres or another 500 kilometres of territory,” explained Reddy. Right now, the company has a processing capacity of 1.7 million litres per day (MLPD). And utilisation is around 1.2 million MLPD — around 70%. So, the focus is more on procurement and marketing rather than building up capacity. That being said, the company claims it's always on the lookout for acquisitions. “Larger acquisition or smaller, we don’t mind. That is the strength we have because we’ve grown as a greenfield company from the beginning. We can acquire even a 50,000 MLPD dairy or a 500,000 MLPD dairy if it’s adding the right value,” said Reddy. The IPO consists of a fresh issuance of shares worth ₹50 crore and offer for sale (OFS) of ₹470 crore when subscription opens on June 16, within a price band of ₹421 to ₹428 per share. The dairy company plans to use ₹32.26 crore to repay loans and ₹7.15 crore for its working capital requirements. New Delhi, Dec 14 () Leading milk supplier Mother Dairy on Saturday announced an increase in milk prices by up to Rs 3 per litre in Delhi-NCR due to lower supply and rise in procurement cost.
 The new prices will be effective from Sunday, it said.
 Prices of both token and poly pack milk have been increased in a range of Rs 2-3 per litre.
 The price of bulk vended milk (token milk) has been hiked by Rs 2 to Rs 42 per litre.
 In poly packs, full cream milk rate has been raised by Rs 2 to Rs 55 per litre. Price of half litre full cream milk has been hiked to Rs 28 from Rs 27.
 Toned milk price has been hiked by Rs 3 per litre to Rs 45 while double-toned milk will now be sold at Rs 39 per litre compared to Rs 36.
 Price of cow milk too has been raised by Rs 3 per litre to Rs 47 per litre.
 "Milk availability across various states is under severe stress due to adverse climatic conditions including extended monsoon and delayed start of the flush season. The adverse climatic conditions have also resulted in a significant increase in feed and fodder prices
 "This has impacted the prices paid to milk producers. The raw milk prices, which in a normal year come down during the winter months, have firmed up substantially," Mother Dairy said.
 The prices paid to milk producers have increased by about Rs 6 per litre in the last few months, up by almost 20 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.
 Mother Dairy said it is compelled to raise prices in Delhi-NCR for all its milk variants with effect from December 15, 2019.
 It said it passes close to 80 per cent of the sales realisation from milk towards its procurement.

Mother Dairy hikes milk prices by up to Rs 3/litre

The Kerala Co-operative <keyword id="170372" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="milk-marketing-federation" source="Orion">Milk Marketing Federation</keyword>, or <keyword id="251235" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="milma" source="Orion">Milma</keyword>, on Thursday announced its decision to hike prices of milk by Rs 6 per litre which will come into effect from December 1. Currently, the cost of a litre of milk in the state is Rs 46. The price hike comes three years after Milma had announced an increase of Rs 4 per litre in 2019. "That time, 83.75 per cent (Rs 3.35) of the additional amount went to the farmers. That proportion will continue this time which means Rs 5.025 of the Rs 6 will go to the farmer," said Chairman of the Federation, K.S. <keyword id="9128" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mani" source="Orion">Mani</keyword>. The latest decision comes after a Milma-appointed panel comprising experts from the state's veterinary and agriculture universities conducted a study on expenses incurred by dairy farmers. In its interim report submitted last week, the committee said that the farmers suffer an estimated loss of Rs 8.57 per litre of milk. Subsequently, the Milma Director Board convened a meeting and found that a price hike was inevitable, the Chairman said. "Though Milma is authorised to increase the price, the Board's decision was discussed with the state government and a suitable hike was finalised," he added. Along with a fresh hike in procurement prices, the milk cooperatives and distributors will each get 5.75 per cent of the new hiked amount, while 0.75 per cent of the amount will go to the Dairy Farmers Welfare Fund Board. Milma will get 3.50 per cent of the increased amount even as 0.50 per cent has been earmarked for the <keyword id="15606825" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="plastic-elimination-fund" source="Orion">Plastic Elimination Fund</keyword>. Besides the rise in the cooperative federation's milk procurement prices, the government has been giving various subsidies to the farmers. What many may not know is that the company also has operations in the African countries -- Uganda and Kenya. Dodla Dairy's ₹520 crore IPO isn't to expand into new markets but to strengthen its foothold where it already exists

New Delhi, Dec 14 () India's leading dairy firm Amul on Saturday announced hiking milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across various states, while Mother Dairy increased rates by up to Rs 3 per litre in Delhi-NCR due to rise in procurement cost.
 The new prices will be effective from Sunday (December 15), Mother Dairy and Amul said in separate statements.
 Prices of raw milk are generally lower in the winter season, but this year they have risen due to late monsoon followed by excess rains.
 Increase in milk prices by the two major dairy firms could impact retail inflation, which spiked to a more than three-year high of 5.54 per cent in November due to costlier food products.
 Mother Dairy has increased prices of token and poly pack or pouched milk by Rs 2-3 per litre.
 Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, said it has decided to revise milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra markets of Gujarat, Delhi NCR, West Bengal, Mumbai and Maharashtra.
 GCMMF supplies 1.4 crore litres of milk per day across the country, of which 33 lakh litres is in Delhi-NCR.
 Mother Dairy too sells over 30 lakh litres per day of milk in the national capital region.
 Both the dairy majors attributed the price increase to higher procurement cost and said they pass on 80 per cent of the sales realisation from milk towards its procurement from dairy farmers.
 As per its rate chart, Mother Dairy has hiked the price of bulk vended milk (token milk) by Rs 2 to Rs 42 per litre.
 In poly packs, Mother Dairy's full cream milk has become costlier by Rs 2 to Rs 55 per litre. Price of half litre full cream milk has been hiked to Rs 28 from Rs 27.
 Mother Dairy's toned milk price has been hiked by Rs 3 per litre to Rs 45, while double-toned milk will now be sold at Rs 39 per litre compared to Rs 36.
 Price of Mother Dairy cow milk too has been raised by Rs 3 per litre to Rs 47 per litre.
 In NCR, Amul Gold and Amul Taaza will be costlier Rs 2 each to Rs 55 per litre and Rs 44 per litre respectively. Cow milk will now be sold at Rs 44 against Rs 42 per litre earlier.
 Amul said that in the last three years, it has made only two price revisions for pouch milk which is only Rs 4 per litre and less than 3 per cent per annum increase in MRP.
 "This year the price of cattle feed has increased by more than 35 per cent. Considering increase in cattle feed and other input costs, our member unions have increased milk procurement price in the range of Rs 100 to Rs 110 per Kg fat which is more than 15 per cent increase than the last year for the 36 lakh milk producers of Gujarat," Amul said.
 Mother Dairy said that milk availability across various states is under severe stress due to adverse climatic conditions including extended monsoon and delayed start of the flush season.
 Stating that adverse climatic conditions have resulted in a significant increase in feed and fodder prices, Mother Dairy said: "This has impacted the prices paid to milk producers. The raw milk prices, which in a normal year come down during the winter months, have firmed up substantially."
 The prices paid to milk producers have increased by about Rs 6 per litre, up by almost 20 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year, the company said, adding that it was compelled to raise milk rates. MJH ABM

Mother Dairy hikes milk prices by up to Rs 3/litre in NCR; Amul raises rates by Rs 2

New Delhi, Dec 15 () India's leading milk supplier Amul on Saturday raised milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in Gujarat, Delhi-NCR, West Bengal and Maharashtra.
 "Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under Amul brand, has decided to revise the milk prices by Rs 2 per litre being sold in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra markets of Gujarat, Delhi NCR, West Bengal, Mumbai and Maharashtra from December 15, 2019," the cooperative said in a statement.
 In Ahmedabad, the price of Amul Gold will be Rs 28 per 500 ml, and Amul Taaza will be sold for Rs 22 per 500 ml.
 However, there will be no change in price of Amul Shakti which continues to be available at Rs 25 per 500 ml.
 Amul said in the last three years it has made only two price revisions for pouch milk, which works out to be only Rs 4 per litre and less than 3 per cent per annum increase in MRP.

 Amul said it passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to the producers.
 This increase in milk prices by Rs 2 per litre has been done with an aim to sustain remunerative price to milk producers and encourage them for higher milk production, it added.
