Leading fintech player <keyword id="2777173" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="razorpay" source="Orion">Razorpay</keyword> on Tuesday announced its first international expansion with the acquisition of a majority stake in <keyword id="13127382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="curlec" source="Orion">Curlec</keyword>, a leading Malaysian fintech startup, for an undisclosed sum. E-commerce is booming in Malaysia with an estimated market size of $21 billion in 2021 and is poised to grow further to over $35 billion by 2025. Razorpay said that with acquiring Curlec, it will further unveil new channels for global business expansion for online businesses based in India and Malaysia. "With the vast experience in a heterogenous market like India over the last seven years, our expansion to the Southeast Asia payments market is timed exactly to coincide with the company's growing dominance in all things payments," said Harshil Mathur, CEO and Co-Founder, Razorpay. Curlec was founded by Zac Liew and Steve Kucia in 2018. The company builds new-age technology solutions on top of existing payments infrastructure, to make it easier for companies of all sizes, to collect recurring payments and take control of their cash flows. Initially backed by 500 global and other investors, the company's annual revenue has been growing at nearly 5X since 2018. "We look forward to the next phase of our journey and scaling together across Malaysia and Southeast Asia," said Liew. This marks Razorpay's fourth acquisition overall, and its first in the international market. RazorPay acquires digital invoicing and customer engagement platform BillMe to empower businesses and customers

Fintech services platform Razorpay on Thursday announced it has acquired offline payments services provider <keyword id="6519244" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ezetap" source="Orion">Ezetap</keyword>, becoming one of the few companies globally with a significant online and offline presence in payments. According to sources, the deal size is around $150-200 million. This marks Razorpay's sixth and biggest acquisition to date. The <keyword id="14747570" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ezetap-team" source="Orion">Ezetap Team</keyword> of around 300 employees will join Razorpay and work as an independent business unit. "We believe that the businesses of tomorrow will not distinguish between physical and digital channels and will expect a unified payment experience through a single integrated platform," said Harshil Mathur, CEO and Co-founder, Razorpay. Fintech services platform Razorpay acquires offline payments firm Ezetap

Razorpay forays into loyalty and rewards segment with PoshVine acquisition

The acquisition of Pune-based IZealiant, the fifth by Razorpay to date, will strengthen its banking solutions arm that builds innovative tech solutions for banks, the company said in a statement. Founded in 2015, IZealiant provides mobile-first, API-enabled, and cloud-ready payment processing products for banks and financial institutions. "The team at IZealiant has extensive experience in developing and implementing complex, high-performance acquiring and issuing systems and I am confident that together we will be able to build industry-first solutions for the banks in India," said Harshil Mathur, CEO and Co-founder of Razorpay. Working closely with over 45 banks in India, Razorpay's banking team has been part of several critical projects including the Razorpay TokenHQ -- India's first multi-network RBI compliant card tokenisation solution, and MandateHQ -- the API-based, plug-n-play recurring payments interface for banks. On the other hand, IZealiant has deployed its 'ZealPro' product suite for more than 50 banks across 18 countries, processing millions of transactions including in India, South Africa, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Singapore, Uganda, among many others. Razorpay buys a Pune-based startup to strengthen its banking segment, its fifth acquisition so far

The Covid-19 pandemic's third wave has had a minimal impact on production as well as demand, said automobile major <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword>. Notably, the third wave's disruption has been less severe than previous phases of the pandemic. In a conversation with IANS, Maruti Suzuki India's Senior Executive Director, Sales and Marketing, Shashank Srivastava said the company as well as the industry has coped well with the third wave. He pointed out that it took the company 90 days to reach from 0-to-6,000 units production per day during the first wave. "In the second wave, it took us only 18 days to reach this mark. We were able to recover in a short time as we had a good learning experience from the first wave which was implemented in the second wave," Srivastava said. "In the third wave, there has hardly been any disruption with respect to bookings, demand or even the supply chain." Last month, the auto major sold a total of 154,379 units which was lower than the off-take of 160,752 units reported in January 2021, on account of lower production. Furthermore, he cited that an easing in semiconductor supply issue. "You can see next (fiscal) year, the situation becomes much better than what we saw in the second half of this year. However, in terms of production, we will probably not be at 100 per cent production level even in this quarter." In January 2022, the company's total production of passenger as well as commercial vehicles rose to 161,383 units from 160,975 units manufactured during the corresponding month of last year. The global semiconductor shortage has been triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic-induced supply hurdles as well as healthy demand. Accordingly, the phenomenon has been blamed on the exponential rise in demand for personal electronics such as cellphones and laptops during the ongoing pandemic. On a technical basis, semiconductors play a critical part in the production of internal combustion engines. They are an integral part of all kinds of sensors and controls in any vehicle. The shortage has extended waiting periods along with escalated prices. On the cost pressure, he noted that even the higher vehicle prices have not been able to cover the rise in commodity prices. "Despite all these price increases, we still find that the commodity prices have been much larger." "The commodity prices increase in the last 1.5 years have been extremely high. The price hikes which have been undertaken by manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki are not sufficient to cover that and hence the stress on profitability for the auto industry continues." One of the reasons for the broad correction is that ahead of the LIC IPO, people are willing to keep their positions light,” said Choksey. Investors are also awaiting the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) commentary on inflation and bond yields in the monetary policy meeting this week amid rising oil prices and the government's higher spending plans. Power, banking and IT stocks see sharp sell-off on FII pull out and as investors carve out money for LIC IPO

Dinner-table conversations have changed since <keyword id="1417364" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shark-tank" source="Orion">Shark Tank</keyword> India started streaming. The show received 62,000 applicants from India, out of which 198 businesses were selected to pitch their ideas to the "sharks". By the end, the programme has made a funding commitment worth nearly Rs 42 crore to 67 budding businesses. The show has garnered a wide following with more people understanding the process of raising equity-based funding. However, unlike the show, Founders have to go through a much longer process to secure funding in reality. It involves multiple iterations, lots of rejections, and a lot of time and effort away from business. Even then, not getting any funding or the desired amount is a real possibility. Traditional capital sources cannot be a frequent solution for entrepreneurs which creates the need for founder-friendly funding alternatives. Keeping up with the ever-growing pool of new companies in innovative segments, the business of funding them is also evolving fast. Newer funding models like Revenue Based Financing (RBF) are becoming popular based on the idea that all businesses do not flourish with traditional equity-based funding. There is a need to offer sustainable capital to Founders without trading ownership. RBF facilitates access to much-needed growth capital customised to a company's revenues. Why should start-ups consider RBF? Today's market is highly dynamic and start-ups cannot afford the long turnaround timelines of traditional funding when raising capital. Raising funds through banks &amp; financial institutions comes with either a personal guarantee or fixed liability that is payable irrespective of your business performance. Since repayments under the RBF model are directly linked to the revenues, the financier is also more like a partner in the growth of the start-up. It is a simple process which does not involve any pledge of collateral and hence is an ideal source of capital for smaller digital start-ups that do not have any physical assets. -- Founder-friendly with no equity dilution -- Fast as companies get funded within days &amp; sometimes hours -- Fair with RBF providers only look at the company's financials removing biases associated with who pitches or how they pitch -- Flexible as brands commit to repayments as a percentage of future revenue and not fixed EMIs -- Frequent with companies unlocking repeat funding with growing revenue What if Founders could trade a share of their revenues instead of equity? The boom in the D2C and SaaS sectors has created a huge opportunity for RBF providers. Out of the 198 businesses that pitched on the show, few of them have already raised RBF rounds with capital platforms like Klub including Wakao Foods, TagZ Foods, Deciwood and more. Even brands that could not secure funding on the show, like JhaJi Store, opted for RBF because of their recurring revenues. Uma and Kalpana Jha, Co-Founders, JhaJi Store, aptly sum up the case for RBF, when they say, "We've worked hard to build a profitable business at JhaJi Store that can generate cash every month. Once we achieved that, Klub's revenue-based financing product was a no-brainer. The funding from Klub literally gives us the fuel to add to the fire that's cooking ever more batches of pickles and chutneys. RBF helps first time entrepreneurs like us to fund our own growth without having to give up any equity." Revenue sharing deals on the show can be a win-win situation for Founders as well as investors when they peg repayments to a brand's performance. Similar to Shark Tank, Canadian reality TV series Dragon's Den featured Michele Romanow as a "dragon" in 2015 and after investing in entrepreneurs pitching on the show, she founded Clearbanc (now ClearCo) to facilitate revenue-linked funding options for Founders. We believe the next season of Shark Tank will start showcasing Revenue Based Financing investments as well.
