The startup boom in <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>, which some say peeked in 2015, is still looked at as the key to innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. Analysing these <keyword id="6362513" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="startups">startups</keyword>, <keyword id="28120" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Linkedin">LinkedIn</keyword> published the 2018 LinkedIn Top Startups List for India. The world’s largest professional network looked at actions taken by more than 50 million professionals on the site and came up with a list of the 25 most attractive startups where people want to work. <keyword id="2808667" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="OYO">OYO</keyword>, India’s largest hospitality company, tops the list. Their aggressive expansion plan has led them into Malaysia, China and the UK in just the last 9 months. Currently the company is in conversation to raise $1 billion which will bring its total valuation to over $4 billion. The health and wellness startup, <keyword id="4506924" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="cure-fit">Cure.fit</keyword> came in second, which isn’t really a surprise considering they offer their employees unlimited leave, fixed increments every six months and a concierge service for personal tasks. It’s followed by <keyword id="6890164" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="dunzo-in">Dunzo.in</keyword>, a concierge services venture, in third place. That being said, Dunzo.in isn’t pan-India yet and only has services available in Pune, Bangalore and Gurgaon.  Unicorn club Other than OYO, Rivigo and Udaan.com are two other startups on the list that are near unicorn status. Rivigo, a logistics startup, is almost at $1 billion after recently raising an additional $50 million in funds. Udaan.com is leading the pack, according to the report, with it being valued at over $ 1 billion after its round of September fundraising. Employee engagement matters Some of the startups on the list have made it there because they recognise that it’s important for employees to feel a sense of ownership. For instance, OYO ensures that all new hires are exposed to actual business problems from their first day at work so that they understand their responsibility and accountability. Razorpay, on the other hand, has a unique regulation where every team member has to take fours hours of customer support calls, regardless of seniority or role. Other companies employ innovative appraisal methods instead. Jumbotail, for example, flouts the norm by giving 80% weightage to peer feedback and only 20% to manager feedback while looking at annual reviews. The startups on this list have been measured across four pillars - employment growth, engagement, job interest and top talent. While a lot of disruptive and new startups made it to the list, older names like Flipkart, Swiggy and BigBasket are missing.

After all, she had climbed Mount Kilimanjaro a decade back. However, she is better known for her penchant to start, grow and sell companies in the Silicon Valley. What got this middle-class engineering graduate from Hyderabad to make a mark in Silicon Valley is pure grit and determination. As the founder of RightWorks, a web enterprise computing company in the 90s, she sent her pitches to Fortune 500 CEOs on a <a href="https://www.rediff.com/news/2000/jan/22us1.htm">large sized cardboard</a>. It’s too big to throw away and impossible to crumble! She later sold the company for a whopping $657 million in 2000, and repeated the same success story with yet another company she founded, Certus Software. In 2006, Kola made a life-changing decision to come back to India. It was tough since she has been living there for 22 years with her husband Srinivas Kola with whom she travelled to the US for masters degree, and two daughters. But Kola who is now based out of Bangalore, during a visit to India and saw ‘how much’ it had changed since she left it. A cab ride that brought her back home The epiphany came when she was taking a cab ride. Her cabbie told her that he is planning to take his family to Bangkok for a holiday, which shocked her. “I have never heard my own father (who is an accountant) say that he has been working hard and needs a vacation,” she said in an <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/specials/meet-venture-capital-pioneer-vani-kola-115030500583_1.html">interview to Business Standard</a>. After looking at how consumer behaviour was changing and that India was ripe for innovation, she set up Indo-US Venture Partners in 2006 with yet another serial entrepreneur Vinod Dham and former head of Intel India Kumar Shiralgi. The venture went through management changes to be rebranded in 2011 as Kalaari Capital, named after Kerala-based ancient martial art form Kalaripayat. Breaking the boy’s club Since inception, Kalaari Capital has invested in many e-commerce firms like Snapdeal, Myntra and Urban Ladder. Among her top investments are YourStory, Dream11 and Curefit. Among her top investments and exits is one of India’s first online lingerie stores, Zivame. With others, it would have taken two weeks across many meetings. Even now, the number of women who seek investments from Kalaari are a mere two percent of the total number. Yet, Kola believes things will change. In the 1980s, she was part of another boys club, called engineering. She was amongst one of the six girls in a batch of 400! Of this, ₹300 crore was through fresh issue and ₹900 crore was through offer of sale, which provided partial exits to company’s existing investors. India’s first profitable payment bank is going to list today — here’s all you need to know

<ul><li>The company said that the total payout of the interim dividend is ₹10.86 crore.</li><li><keyword id="5030468" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="easemytrip" source="Orion">EaseMyTrip</keyword> has announced its first dividend in April 2021 almost a month after its listing.</li><li> The company reported over 330% year-on-year increase in its consolidated net profit in Q2 of 2021.</li></ul>Travel ticketing platform Easy Trip Planner — which goes by the name EaseMyTrip — has declared an interim dividend of 50% or ₹1 per equity share of the face value of ₹2 for the fiscal year 2022 that ends in March next year. The company said that the total payout of the interim dividend is ₹10.86 crore. The said dividend on equity shares will be credited to the members as per the records of the depositories as beneficial owners of the equity shares, as on November 22. The interim dividend will be paid on or before December 10, 2021. EaseMyTrip has announced its first dividend in April 2021 almost a month after its listing on the stock exchange. The latest development comes soon after EaseMyTrip announced its financial result for July to September quarter of 2021. The company reported over 330% year-on-year increase in its consolidated net profit. Even in this fiscal, we witnessed phenomenal growth across all segments in the H1FY22 [first half of financial year 2022]. It also reflects a strong recovery of India's travel sector, which was severely impacted by the pandemic,” Nishant Pitti, chief executive and cofounder of EaseMyTrip, said. The company offers access to more than 400 international and domestic airlines, over one million hotels as well as train/bus tickets and taxi rentals across India. EaseMyTrip was founded in 2008 and claims to have more than 11 million customers. It also has offices across India and international markets like Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the UAE, the UK, and the USA. EaseMyTrip announces interim dividend of 50% after stellar profit growth

Food delivery unicorn <keyword id="6358977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="swiggy">Swiggy</keyword> has laid off over 350 employees after its initial exercise of laying off over 1100 people in May. Swiggy’s official statement said that ‘the past few months have reshaped our lives in an unprecedented manner’. However, the company called the latest layoff as a final realignment exercise. “In May, we began the exercise of realigning resources to create capacity in higher potential areas with the optimism of the business attaining pre-covid levels in the near-term. With the industry still only having recovered to about 50% of its peak, we have unfortunately had to go ahead with this final realignment exercise with the net loss of 350 jobs. We are concluding the exercise we began late May and there are no plans for any further restructuring,”said a Swiggy spokesperson. Food delivery and restaurants have been one of the worst hits ever since the coronavirus lockdown began in March. Social distancing is taking a toll on businesses. People remain wary and unwilling to venture out of their homes still for leisure and entertainment. Hence, many restaurants have continued to <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/hospitality/less-than-40-of-hotels-restaurants-are-open-in-india-says-nrais-anurag-katriar-6284251.htm">stay shut</a>, while many others are in the fear of shutting shop. The company also has celebrity brand ambassadors like Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff and has over 270 centres across India and Dubai. Another sector to be severely impacted due to the coronavirus pandemic is the aviation industry. India sees second wave of layoffs and pay cuts as companies grapple with COVID-19 pandemic

The comments were made during the event hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and has since been reportedly removed. Goyal was referring to pushback from the e-commerce players against the <a href="https://prsindia.org/files/parliamentry-announcement/2021-07-21/CommentseCommerce_Rules2020_upto_21July2021.pdf">incoming norms</a>, which the government says are intended to protect the consumers in e-commerce. The deadline for seeking comments on the rules ended on July 21. While the rules at the centre of this debate are called ‘Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020,’ Goyal’s comments largely reflect the fear of traders’ community, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and Delhi Vyapar Mahasangh, lobbies that have been revolting against online retailers, particularly, foreign players like Amazon and Flipkart (now owned by US-based Walmart). “Six crore small shops, related to retail business and employing almost 12 crore people, are being threatened now,” he said. The apex court decided that CCI should investigate them and the fraudulent and unfair trade practices used by the companies as informed by the government and small shopkeepers to CCI.” Other outfits rail against online giants The e-commerce rules have been creating a lot of furore in India. Other political outfits like the Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) have <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/india/rss-affiliate-suggests-changes-in-consumer-protection-e-commerce-rules/articleshow/84613325.cms">argued</a> that the rules are protecting only those who sell goods via online retail. The SJM wants the laws to protect service providers ⁠— the likes of hairdressers, plumbers and electricians who are employed via platforms like Urban Company. SJM is affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which is the ideological parent for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that is in power at the government in New Delhi.
