The victims, Lakshman Dabhi (35), Khodabhai Makwana (32) and Viram Keraliya (35), were digging at a mine near Bhet village in Thangadh taluka of the district when they died of asphyxiation on Saturday, the official from Muli Muli police station said. The trio did not have helmets, masks or other <keyword id="20754876" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="safety-equipment" source="keywords">safety equipment</keyword> when they were working for the accused, he said. As per the first information report (FIR), the accused did not provide helmets or other safety equipment to the deceased while employing them to dig a well. They died after inhaling gas from the well, it stated. A case was registered against Jashabhai Keraliya, Janak Aniyaria, Khimjibhai Saradia, and Kalpesh Parmar, the official said. Bodies of the deceased labourers have been sent for post-mortem, he added. Earlier in February, three workers died after inhaling toxic gas that emanated after a blast triggered by gelatin sticks for an <keyword id="19932636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="illegal" source="keywords">illegal</keyword> mining operation in the district.

Former Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/olympic-track-star-oscar-pistorius-verdict-2014-9">was convicted of culpable homicide</a> on Friday for shooting and killing his girlfriend in 2013.
Judge Thokozile Masipa characterized Pistorius as an unreliable witness but said there weren't enough facts to support a verdict of premeditated murder. So she settled for the lesser charge of culpable homicide.
In South Africa, culpable homicide is the equivalent of manslaughter. In this case, it means that Pistorius did not intend to kill his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp but that his actions were negligent.
Culpable homicide "can be defined as killing someone but without direct intent either through recklessness or negligence," <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/oscar-pistorius/11091036/What-is-culpable-homicide.html">according to</a> The Telegraph.

But she also said he "acted too hastily and used excessive force," and that he could have avoided shooting the supposed intruder in the bathroom by calling security or shouting for help.
To reach a conviction of culpable homicide, a judge has to decide whether the accused's actions fit what a "reasonable" person would do under the same circumstances.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 13, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/13/world/africa/oscar-pistorius-verdict-guilty-of-culpable-homicide.html?_r=0">according to</a> The New York Times.
Masipa will decide Pistorius' sentence based on "the weight of evidence and circumstances surrounding the incident," a veteran defense lawyer <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/International/oscar-pistorius-disability-factor-sentence-experts/story?id=25462232">told</a> ABC News. The maximum sentence for culpable homicide is 15 years. There is no minimum sentence.
Pistorius could even get off without any prison time at all, as some culpable homicide cases are punished with community service and fines. Pistorius' mental state could play into his sentence if his defense team can successfully argue he has a fragile mental state and needs continued treatment for his depression to prevent him from becoming suicidal, ABC News notes. The fact that he's a double amputee might also be taken into consideration.
Contrary to Pistorius' version of events, prosecutors argued he shot Steenkamp intentionally as the result of an argument.

<keyword id="1617044" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Carl-Pistorius">Carl Pistorius</keyword>, 28, faces charges of culpable homicide after a 2008 road accident in which a 36-year-old woman motorcyclist was killed.
His appearance comes a day before his Paralympian hero brother makes a court challenge to the stringent bail conditions imposed on him after the Valentine's Day killing of his model girlfriend.
Among the conditions imposed on Pistorius, 26, last month was the surrender of his passport and mandatory drug and alcohol tests.
The athlete known as "Blade Runner" is also banned from returning to his upmarket gated home in Pretoria where he shot Reeva Steenkamp, claiming to have mistaken her for an intruder.
Pistorius, who became the first double amputee to compete against able-bodied athletes in last year's Olympic Games in London, is currently out on bail of one million rand ($108,000, 84,000 euros).
The trial of Carl Pistorius opened with arguments over an application by the public broadcaster SABC to be allowed to run live broadcast of the proceedings.
Magistrate Buks du Plessis dismissed the application.
"This trial pertains to Mr Carl Pistorius not Mr Oscar Pistorius. This is what we are dealing with here," Du Plessis said.
"These proceedings must not be used or have an influence on any later proceeding against this accused's brother," he added.
Lawyer Kenny Oldwage, who is part of Oscar Pistorius's murder trial defence team, is also representing the brother.
Oldwage successfully defended a driver in a high-profile accident in 2010 that killed former president Nelson Mandela's great-granddaughter Zenani. The driver was acquitted.

Carl Pistorius' trial relates to a 2008 traffic incident which left a motorcyclist dead. News of the trial reached the South African press this weekend, after news network <a href="http://www.enca.com/videos/oscars-brother-trouble">e-News Channel Africa reported it Sunday</a>.
<a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/24/us-safrica-pistorius-brother-idUSBRE91N05V20130224">According to Reuters</a>, Carl's lawyer has confirmed the trial is taking place, stating that his client will plead innocent and that the incident was just a "tragic road accident after the deceased collided with Carl's car." Carl reportedly appeared before a judge on Thursday and will return to court in March. 
Carl's trial received little publicity before his brother became the center of worldwide attention after he allegedly <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/oscar-pistorius-arrested-2013-2">shot his model girlfriend at their home in Pretoria on Valentine's Day</a>. The double-amputee Olympian says he killed his girlfriend accidentally, believing she was a home intruder.
While Carl's case appears to have no relation to the Valentine's Day shooting, it does appear to be another bizarre twist in a case that has had a number of them — just last week it was announced that the lead detective in Oscar's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/oscar-pistorius-investigator-faces-murder-attempted-charge-2013-2">murder investigation was facing attempted murder charges himself</a>.

Host Payne Lindsey tackled the missing person's case of Tara Grinstead a decade after she disappeared and his work on the podcast eventually led to two arrests in early 2017.Tenderfoot has also worked on popular true-crime podcasts "Atlanta Monster," its follow-up "Monster: The Zodiac Killer," and "To Live and Die in LA."<h2>At a dead end in a tight-lipped town, 'Culpable' took a different approach to gather information.</h2>Jacob Bozarth, a producer on "Culpable," said the writers and producers of the show decided to contribute money for a reward after months of investigating left them determined to figure out what happened to Christian. "We went into it thinking we were going to tell Christian's story, and as we did our own investigation and started digging in, we realized how deep the story goes," he told Business Insider."Culpable" host Dennis Cooper of Black Mountain Media was the first to suggest offering a reward to advance the case. When he proposed Black Mountain Media offer $50,000, Tenderfoot agreed to match that contribution, making this the second time it had offered a reward on a podcast.The companies have been collaborating on the podcast production. The two companies have worked together before, in a fashion, as Resonate Recordings, a sister company to Black Mountain Media, worked on post-production for "Up and Vanished." ("Culpable" is the first podcast Black Mountain Media has launched.)"One of the reasons we really wanted to do the reward is because we feel like people know something but they're afraid to speak," Bozarth said. "We wanted to make it an amount that could change someone's life if they came forward."<h2>'We're invested in this 100%': The 'Culpable' team continues investigating after podcast finale. </h2>Christian's mother, Rae Andreacchio, first connected with Black Mountain Media and Resonate Recordings at CrimeCon - the <a href="https://www.crimecon.com/">true-crime convention</a> - in 2018, and shared hundreds of pages of information on her son's case, Bozarth said."When we heard her story, our hearts went out to Rae and her family," Bozarth said.Since then, the companies have produced 15 regular-season episodes dedicated to the case plus Q&amp;A episodes. They've also enlisted the help of private investigators to get to the bottom of what happened to Christian, but they're still searching for answers."Culpable" has brought national attention to Christian's case, which is why the team has no plans to stop investigating until the Andreacchio family has closure, Bozarth said."We're invested in this 100%," Bozarth said. "Even though the podcast formally had a finale, it's not stopping."The team is used to creating the podcast as new information becomes available. "Therefore, the not-doing-anything during those 187 minutes is itself a criminal act."The law professor gave the analogy of watching a child drown. If a child was clearly in distress and ends up drowning in front of you, can you be criminally responsible for it?The rule of thumb to consider here is if the individual had a pre-existing duty to the child, such as a parent, guardian, or lifeguard, Weisberg said. If there was some responsibility, then the individual could be culpable of a crime."If my omission to act is done when I'm conscious of what's happening, I can be guilty even of homicide there," he said.
