"We are making this decision based on recent feedback from those same communities. Specifically, we will be closing our Bitpay account, which will remove our ability to directly accept cryptocurrency as a method of donating," the foundation said in an update. The WMF began accepting Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum donations in 2014. The foundations aid that it will "continue to monitor this issue, and appreciate the feedback and consideration given to this evolving matter by people across the <keyword id="196608" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="wikimedia" source="Orion">Wikimedia</keyword> movement". "The Wikimedia Foundation has decided to stop accepting cryptocurrency donations. Wikimedia Foundation stops accepting cryptocurrency donations after eight years

Ashneer Grover, who was sacked along with his wife Madhuri Jain Grover by fintech platform BharatPe over alleged financial irregularities, has slammed the Reserve Bank of India (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) over its latest directive to non-bank prepaid payment instruments to stop loading credit lines onto their products. In a tweet, Grover said that "not allowing loading of pre-paid instruments through credit is aimed at protecting bank's lazy credit card business from Fintech's potent BNPL (buy now pay later) business". "It's a flex move by banks -- rent seeking. But market is market and regulation will eventually come around to what market needs," he added. The RBI, in its latest one-page circular, has disallowed non-bank PPIs from loading credit, and several such startups and firms have already stopped customers' transactions on their prepaid cards to avoid penalty. The banking PPIs include HDFC Flexipay, ICICI PayLater, HDFC Payzapp, SBI YONO and others, along with several UPI-driven platforms like Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay and Amazon Pay, etc. "The PPI-MD (PPI-master direction) does not permit loading of PPIs from credit lines. Such practice, if followed, should be stopped immediately. Any non-compliance in this regard may attract penal action under provisions contained in the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007," according to the RBI directive. Grover is reportedly in talks with US-based private equity companies to raise up to $300 million for a new startup. "Today I turn 40. According to Twitter auditing tool SparkToro, of <keyword id="364027" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="musk" source="Orion">Musk</keyword>'s 87.9 million followers (at the time of the research audit), roughly 48 per cent are fake, reports Time. These are the accounts that are "unreachable and will not see the account's tweets because they're spam, bots, propaganda, etc. or because they're no longer active on Twitter". Musk currently has nearly 90 million followers on Twitter. He has nearly 7 per cent more fake followers than the median 41 per cent accounts with a similar sized followings have, according to SparkToro. The auditing tool found that "accounts that are on an unusually small number of lists, accounts that have no url or a non-resolving url in their profile, and accounts that have a suspiciously small number of followers were some of the most frequently observed traits of a sample of 2,000 random accounts from the most recent 100,000 accounts that followed Musk". Spam bots are the "single most annoying problem" on Twitter, Musk tweeted last month, as he successfully reached the $44 billion Twitter takeover deal. "I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans," he had tweeted. "Twitter has tremendous potential. I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it," said Musk who is planning to hire a new Twitter CEO. In a TED interview last month, Musk said that crypto-based spam bots "make the product much worse." Musk has said that he will resolve the problem by authenticating "all real humans" on the platform. The company pointed out that its servers are being overwhelmed by traffic caused by massive demand for Dogecoin. “Doge’s sudden price movement has caused a massive surge in our traffic. We’re seeing more than a 1000% spike in concurrent users,” it said. In a statement to Business Insider, WazirX’s Chief Executive Officer Nishcal Shetty pointed out that the issue was caused due to a system error. “Today, one of our systems - on detecting the high traffic - wrongly marked it as bad traffic and started blocking the requests. It was good traffic, and this error caused our users to have intermittent access to the app,” he said, explaining the cause of the problems faced by its users. He clarified that the issue was not caused due to server overload – instead, it was a system-side error. Dogecoin surge sends WazirX servers panting for help – users report failed transactions, delays in orders

<ul><li>RBI’s new e-mandate for recurring payments will introduce new changes from October 1 onwards.</li><li>Subscription for service or bills that have recurring payments will be affected.</li><li>Here’s how <keyword id="6354427" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="apple" source="Orion">Apple</keyword> and <keyword id="10296" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="zoom" source="Orion">Zoom</keyword> plan to deal with the changes.</li></ul>The <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword>’s (RBI) guidelines for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/ecommerce/news/from-netflix-and-hotstar-to-airtel-to-jio-bills-brace-for-surprises-as-rbis-guidelines-on-auto-debit-transactions-kick-in-from-october-1/articleshow/86642500.cms">auto-debit transactions</a> will be effective from October 1 onwards. Under the new mandate, any subscription service or bills that have recurring payments via cards will be affected. This applies to subscriptions for services, phone bills, utility bills and more. While the details are still scarce on how different sectors that operate in auto-debit transactions are going to take on the hurdles coming in the way, Apple and Zoom seem to be reaching out to their customers to address their queries. Apple offers subscription-based services like Apple Music and <keyword id="9752937" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="apple-one" source="Orion">Apple One</keyword>, and also hosts third-party services through the <keyword id="115504" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="app-store" source="Orion">App Store</keyword>. Apple is advising clients to introduce a grace period for customers so that they have a few days to authenticate the payment, a source told Business Insider. The grace period option is available in the App Store. Another option is to add money to one’s Apple ID just like we do on <keyword id="6404433" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ewallets" source="Orion">eWallets</keyword> like <keyword id="6357120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm" source="Orion">Paytm</keyword> and use that to pay for subscriptions without needing to go through the process manually to renew services or recurring payments. Zoom has started informing customers about the new RBI e-mandate saying that customers may need to pay their invoice using the PayNow link or verify their card details. Zoom has a <a href="https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/4410288203149#h_01FGSRTXRZ8BDC84R4JW48XWFQ">dedicated site</a> with FAQs about the new e-mandate where it will update with more information on verifying the payment information. Under the new mandate, subscriptions for any service that is below ₹5,000 will require customers to re-authenticate their payment details that include banking, card or unified payments interface (UPI), and validate it with a one-time password (OTP). Customers will also be informed 24 hours prior to the auto-debit along with an option to cancel the recurring payment. As for recurring payments above ₹5,000, an additional authentication for the payment will be required. For this customers will have to approve the auto-debit which will arrive 24 hours prior to the deadline. Since this affects multiple services that use recurring payments, the changes are expected to affect customers around the country. Customers are already being notified by their respective banks about the new changes. But there might still be confusion around how companies are planning to implement the new changes. Not only policyholders, employees of the insurance company also have a quote for themselves with 5% of issue size reservation. “Policyholders may get a 10% discount on issue price,” Anshuman Khanna, Director at Value Prolific Consulting Services (ValPro) told Business Insider. Suppose the issue price of LIC IPO is ₹1,500 then the policyholder may get at ₹1,350 per share, which will give them an additional upside, said Khanna. Cap on investment Investors holding LIC policy cannot exceed their investment more than ₹2 lakh as most of such investors also come under the retail category. She had addressed that the digital currency will give a big boost to the digital economy. "Introduction of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) will give a big boost to the digital economy. Digital currency will also lead to a more efficient and cheaper currency management system. It is, therefore, proposed to introduce Digital Rupee, using blockchain and other technologies, to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India starting 2022-23," said Sitharaman in a budget document. The idea of issuing central bank digital currency was brought into action after every other country was piloting the digital currency after the wide popularity of cryptocurrencies. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), almost 100 countries are exploring CBDCs at one level or another. Some researching, some testing, and a few already distributing CBDC to the public. Rabi Sankar, deputy governor at RBI says that while interest in CBDCs is near universal now, very few countries have reached even the pilot stage of launching their CBDCs. About 86% of centrals were actively researching the potential for CBDCs, 60% were experimenting with the technology and 14% were deploying pilot projects. What is Central Bank Digital Currency and is it similar to cryptocurrencies? A central bank digital currency (CBDC) is a digital currency issued by a central bank, which will be used for transactions similar to other physical currencies. “A CBDC is the legal tender issued by a central bank in a digital form. It is the same as a fiat currency and is exchangeable one-to-one with the fiat currency. Only its form is different,” said Sankar in a report. On an important note, cryptocurrencies are private money, whereas CBDCs are government-backed forms of money The primary benefit of virtual currency is that with this, it is possible to record and track transactions easily. Although the concept of digital currency is inspired from <keyword id="15019207" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-virtual-currencies" source="Orion">private virtual currencies</keyword> like cryptocurrency it cannot be compared to these virtual currencies that do not have an underlying asset and are not legal tender as they are unregulated and decentralised. “CBDC is simply the physical rupee you have in your wallet purse today, it will be a digital representation of that physical note. And therefore most countries are exploring. The features and functions you have with a physical note today, the digital rupee will have the same features and function,” said Aman Cheema, head of global real-time payments and CBDCs at FIS in a conversation with Business Insider. Cheema says that there is a lot of confusion between CBDCs, Bitcoin and private coins etc as he says that CBDC is not bitcoin, which comes under unregulated assets. CBDC to be more cost effective than other payment alternatives Deputy governor of RBI T. Rabi Sankar recently said that CBDC could become a tool for reducing time and cost for cross-border transactions. “Imagine a UPI system where CBDC is transacted instead of bank balances, as if cash is handed over – the need for interbank settlement disappears. CBDCs would also potentially enable a more real-time and cost-effective globalization of payment systems,” said Sankar last year. Also, another cost effective benefit could be from replacing it with cash. India’s high currency to GDP ratio holds out another benefit of CBDCs. To the extent large cash usage can be replaced by CBDCs, the cost of printing, transporting, storing and distributing currency can be reduced. How will blockchain technology aid in the launch of CBDC? Blockchain is a type of ledger technology that stores and records data. Technologies like blockchain are considered by several countries exploring CBDC that will facilitate processing and settlement of financial transactions between end users of digital currency. Blockchain technology would allow RBI to track transactions and protect the privacy of CBDC users. Blockchain technology allows many different entities to hold a copy of the history of transactions. As a result, RBI and other central banks are exploring CBDC using this technology as transactions will be secure, safe, transparent with historic records. With this, the blockchain removes the need for intermediaries like banks to help with each transaction and cut down on costs. Meanwhile, the blockchain technology is already being used by hospitals to track medical record data and agricultural firms to track the supply chains of food. “FIS is launching a CBDC virtual lab, which is a digital money platform which will allow central banks and commercial banks to start to experiment what a CBDC could be in that market. I Think of it as an R&amp;D capability, which will allow central banks to say what if I were to design my CBDC and what it would be like and how it would work,” said Cheema. How does it benefit the Economy? CBDCs will benefit the economy with retail consumers being able to make easy, secure and fast payments. The IMF in a report titled ‘The future of money: Gearing up for central bank digital currency’ said that if CBDCs are designed prudently, they can potentially offer more resilience, more safety, greater availability, and lower costs than private forms of digital money as compared to volatile crypto assets. Reports say CBDCs could also be scheduled to pay taxes or make other payments to the government as a part of routine transactions. “There are a number of triggers and drivers of why a nation wants to launch a CBDC that can range from use of cash being declining. But they still need to have an element of cash being circulated in the economy so digitising cash is a way to address that problem. Another trigger is to bring the nation into a wider digital economy and moving cash into digital format as an enabler to do that,” said Cheema. Countries using CBDC Most countries are currently exploring the idea of central bank owned digital currency for their nation. According to an IMF report, in the Bahamas, the Sand Dollar—the local CBDC—has been in circulation for more than a year. Sweden’s Riksbank has developed a proof of concept and is exploring the technology and policy implications of CBDC. In China, the digital renminbi [called e-CNY,] continues to progress with more than a hundred million individual users and billions of yuan in transactions. And, just last month, the Federal Reserve issued a report that noted that “a CBDC could fundamentally change the structure of the U.S. financial system”. India’s digital currency to be launched in FY23 to be cost effective, transparent and secure

RBI's digital currency to be revealed 'very shortly' – governor says issues are still being sorted out internally

While the company earns a large portion of revenue from exporting, the whole anti China product sentiment has proved to be a boon for the company. In an interview with Business Insider ahead of the IPO, Mahesh Tanna, chief financial officer (CFO) at Tatva Chintan Pharma Chem shared that pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediates and other specialty chemicals (PASC) segment is getting almost 30% of revenues from countries that have been looking for alternatives other than Chinese products. This particular PASC category includes specialty chemicals which are used as intermediates, disinfectants, catalysts and solvents. “China Plus one policy is what is actually the reason why we have this whole segment of pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediates and other specialty chemicals (PASC)... our existing customers are largely pharmaceutical and agrochemical companies who are heavily dependent upon supplies from China. Post this environmental issue that happened in China and China Plus One policy, we were given this opportunity if interested we can look into developing pharma and agrochemical intermediates what they were looking for...Today, this PASC segment is contributing almost 25-30% of our revenues. This segment did not exist before 2006,” said Tanna. China Plus One is the business strategy to avoid investing only in China and diversify business into other countries. Tatva Chintan Pharma Chem receives 70% of the revenue from exports to over 25 countries including the USA, China, Germany, Japan, South Africa, and the UK, whereas the rest 30% comes from domestic markets. PASC segment delivered 30.37% revenue in FY21, 29.06% in FY20 and 42.39% in FY19.
