New Delhi, Jan 29 () Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd (CGCEL) on Wednesday reported a two-fold jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 160.97 crore for the third quarter ended December 2019.
 The company had posted a net profit of Rs 79.67 crore in the October-December period a year ago, CGCEL said in a BSE filing.
 Total income during the quarter under review stood at Rs 1,088.83 crore, up 4.42 per cent from Rs 1,042.69 crore in the year-ago period.
 "We continue to witness healthy double-digit growth momentum in ECD segment driven by new innovative launches while improved mix and cost initiatives helped us expand margins. Lighting segment continues to face topline challenges primarily due to pricing pressure and macro factors," CGCEL Managing Director Shantanu Khosla said.
 Total expenses were at Rs 949.75 crore, up 2.95 per cent from Rs 922.53 crore.
 CGCEL's revenue from the electrical consumer durables (ECD) segment rose 10.59 per cent to Rs 786.95 crore, compared to Rs 711.55 crore in Q3 FY 2018-19.
 Revenue from lighting products slipped 10.79 per cent to Rs 284.34 crore.
 "Electrical Consumer Durables segment growth was driven by strong performance in fans, domestic pumps and appliances," the company said, adding, "Volume growth in Lighting was in double digits; however revenue declined due to price erosion."

Bharat Forge has also recently formed a new company named Kalyani Powertrain for its EV business initiatives. However the very new ecosystem that’s being built needs a lot more innovation to address its many pain points. “Long charging time and poor charging infrastructure are the two main pain points for both users and non users,” said Mukesh Kumar, engagement manager at Redseer Strategy Consultants. Tata Power is setting up charging stations at HPCL’s retail outlets, and Exide Industries provides lithium-ion batteries and energy storage solutions. New Delhi, Jan 30 () Shares of Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd (CGCEL) on Thursday rose over 3 per cent after the company reported a two-fold jump in consolidated net profit for the third quarter ended December.
 The stock climbed 3.39 per cent to close at Rs 266.95 on the BSE. During the day, it advanced 5.73 per cent to Rs 273.
 At the NSE, shares of the company rose 3.33 per cent to close at Rs 266.85.
 CGCEL on Wednesday reported a two-fold jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 160.97 crore for December quarter.
 The company had posted a net profit of Rs 79.67 crore in October-December quarter a year ago, CGCEL said in a BSE filing.

Crompton Greaves shares jump over 3 pc on strong Q3 earnings

New Delhi, Dec 3 () Private equity firms Advent International Corp and Temasek Holdings on Tuesday together divested stake worth Rs 1,275 crore in Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals. 
 The shares were offloaded through Advent International Corp's Amalfiaco and Temasek's MacRitchie Investments Pte Ltd via multiple open market transactions.
 As per the block deal data on the BSE, the equity firms sold a total of 5,11,62,327 shares, representing 8.16 per cent stake in the company, at an average price of Rs 249.2 apiece, taking the total deal value to Rs 1,274.9 crore.
 Amalfiaco and MacRitchie, which together held 34.36 per cent stake in the company as per the shareholding data at the end of September 2019, sold around 24 per cent of their holding in the company.
 The shares were picked up at the same price by a host of fund houses and insurance companies, including SBI Mutual Fund, Fidelity India Fund, HDFC Standard Life Insurance Co Ltd and Morgan Stanley Asia Singapore Pte, among others, the data showed.
 In April 2015, Gautam Thapar's Avantha Group sold its entire holding of 34.37 per cent in the demerged consumer products business of Crompton Greaves to Advent International and Temasek for Rs 2,000 crore. 
 Shares of Crompton Greaves on Tuesday ended at Rs 246.2 on the BSE, 2.19 per cent lower than the previous close. SRS

(Eds: Recasting overnight story) New Delhi, Apr 22 () Many appliances and consumer durables manufacturers have decided not to resume manufacturing despite the government relaxing certain guidelines for industries to operate in lockdown 2.0, preferring to wait till the curbs are fully lifted. Companies like Panasonic India, Godrej Appliances, Dixon Technologies and Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd said with retail outlets shut there is no point to start production as there is existing unsold inventory of March at warehouses and dealers. Moreover, in certain states like Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and some districts like Noida of Uttar Pradesh, local authorities and governments decided not to allow any manufacturing activities. According to Panasonic India, the company would wait to start production until a favourable market condition returns. "As our factory in Jhajhar, Haryana is in the green zone, we are engaging with the local authorities for permission to start manufacturing in the near future. The issue today is more on the demand side than supply, we have enough inventory with our distributors of our ACs and refrigerators to meet consumer demands," Panasonic India and South Asia President and CEO Manish Sharma told . The objective behind starting operations will be ensuring sustainability over longer term once markets are allowed to operate, he added. "We are prepared for staggered operations with workers coming in batches ensuring social distancing, frequent sanitizing, usage of masks among other initiatives to protect our workforce," Sharma explained. Expressing similar views, Godrej Appliances Business Head and EVP Kamal Nandi said, "Where will I ship my products? There are no retail activities on the ground and moreover, there is enough stocks available with the dealers. There is no point in production at this stage." Nandi said Godrej Appliances would like to wait till May 3, when the lockdown ends, to plan resumption of production as under the current guidelines it has to consider many factors, including accommodating staff at the plant. Companies like LG, Samsung, Dixon and smart phone makers Oppo and Vivo -- which have manufacturing units in industrial zones at Noida and Greater Noida -- have not resumed production as the district administration of Gautam Buddha Nagar has banned all commercial and industrial activities inside the districts. Dixon Technologies, India's largest contract manufacture in the appliance and consumer electronic, has also not started manufacturing at its units as it is still awaiting approvals. When asked whether the company has started its manufacturing operation, Dixon Technologies CMD Sunil Vachani said, "Not yet. We are waiting for the approvals from the Noida Authority." He further said, "Both of our units at Noida and Tirupati fall under red zone. So we are waiting for the approval. We are hoping it to be sooner than later." While, Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL), which manufactures TV under the brand name of Thomson and Kodak, said that the new guidelines should be realistic and helpful for the industry. "Currently, we are looking forward to the new notification by the Centre and the state governments and whatever norms the government has decided we will be happy to implement," SPPL CEO Avneet Singh Marwah said. He, however, said all "those notifications and norms should be realistic and the intention of the government should be to give permission to start the manufacturing sites". Meanwhile, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals said it has partially resumed its manufacturing at its plants. "… pursuant to the receipt of confirmation/ permission received from the concerned administrative authorities, the company has partially resumed the operations at its plants located at Goa and Vadodara in a phased manner," the company said in a regulatory filing. <ul><li>The price of Indian white goods and durables have increased as much as 20% in the last two years due to inflation.</li><li>The price of copper, steel and aluminium — the key raw material in this sector — have corrected in the last three months.</li><li>White goods items include ACs, fridge, microwaves and washing machines, which are considered a luxury in India.</li></ul>The premium you have been paying on all your household electronics like ACs, fridge, microwaves and washing machines may come off sooner than expected as companies look to pass on the benefits of falling input costs in the festive season. The price of copper, steel and aluminium — the key raw materials in this sector — have corrected in the last three months, after reaching all-time highs. This correction will directly benefit white goods manufacturers — like Bajaj Electricals, Bluestar, Crompton, Havells, Voltas, and Whirlpool to name a few — as procurement of raw material gets more economical. Copper is 21% cheaper, steel is 19% cheaper and aluminium is 36% cheaper from their April levels this year, according to a recent report by ICICI Securities. This, coupled with the fact that customers have been paying over 20% extra on these household durables since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago, will increase margins for these companies. “With a correction in input prices, the need to raise prices has declined. We believe a breather was essential considering durable companies have raised prices incessantly in the past two years. The cumulative price hike was higher than 20% in the past two years,” the brokerage firm added. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="So will the prices go down?" comment="subhead" text="So will the prices go down?">So will the prices go down?</cmsannotation> Not exactly, but that is simply because the white goods and durables industry usually carries a larger inventory. The companies may want to clear their old stock before selling newer items produced with cheaper raw material. But that isn’t necessarily bad either. ICICI Securities believes that the increased margins will push the manufacturers of ACs, refrigerators, microwaves and washing machines to raise their advertising efforts and offer better discounts to the customer. The case for the customer strengthens as these developments come in the second half of the year, with the festive season just a few months away. “We do not model durable companies to pocket all the benefits and expect them to invest gains [in four areas],” the ICICI report added. One of the areas the companies are likely to invest in is advertising as ad-spends have remained on the lower side for the past three years. Secondly, they are likely to increase their spending in research and development and launch a range of new products. The companies will also increase their trade schemes and discounts. Lastly, they are likely to increase the number of consumer offers to gain market share from smaller or unorganised players, the report added. The only thing going against the industry, in terms of manufacturing, is crude oil prices that have stayed above the $100/a barrel level for most of 2022. A report by BNP Paribas, released in May, noted that the consumer electricals industry is witnessing a market shift from the unorganised to the organised one, thanks to demonetisation, GST implementation and the pandemic. Here are some of the stocks which will likely be in focus today: Reliance Industries The Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate will declare its June quarter results today. It is expected to post a strong earnings growth in the June quarter thanks to higher refining margins. Biocon The USFDA concluded a pre-approval inspection of its Hyderabad plant with three observations. The company says it will address this within the stipulated time. ITC The tobacco-to-paper giant revived plans to spin off its hotel business. Its chairman <keyword id="1968926" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sanjiv-puri" source="Orion">Sanjiv Puri</keyword> also remarked that inflation could stay at elevated levels. IndiaMart IndiaMesh Reported a 47% year-on-year decline in net profit to ₹47 crore while revenue grew 7% to ₹226 crore in the same period. JSW Energy Reported a 179% increase in net profit to ₹560 crore year-on-year while revenue surged 68% to ₹3,115 crore in the same period. EBITDA surged 34% to ₹1,111 crore. RBL Bank Bounced back in the green with a profit of ₹201 crore in the June quarter, as against a loss of ₹459 crore in the same period last year, largely due to an 82% fall in provisions. Net interest income grew 6% to ₹1,028 crore. CEAT Reported a 61% drop in its net profit to ₹9 crore year-on-year, as high raw material prices had a large adverse impact on its bottom line. Revenue surged 48% in the same period to ₹2,818 crore. Cyient The Hyderabad-based software company reported a marginal increase of 0.9% in net profit to ₹116 crore, while revenue increased 18% to ₹1,250 crore. Mumbai, Jul 6 () Ampere Vehicles, the electric arm of Greaves Cotton, on Monday announced the acquisition of Noida-based e-rickshaw firm Bestway Agencies (BAPL) with a 74 per cent stake. Bestway sells e-rickshaws under the ELE brand with a strong B2C presence in the mass market passenger segment. Through this acquisition, Ampere will expand its presence in this fast disrupting segment to become an integrated last-mile e-mobility player with strong presence in both electric two- and three-wheelers, Ampere vehicles said in a release. "With the acquisition of Bestway, Ampere has now embarked on a new journey to provide clean, safe and sustainable shared mobility solutions through e-3wheeler and become a leading player in the country's EV ecosystem," said Ampere Vehicles Chairman B V R Subbu. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, the company said. E-rickshaw is one of the largest and fastest-growing categories of EVs in the country, and Ampere foresees growth in this segment, it said. In addition to the business-to-customer (B2C) segment, with this acquisition, Ampere will also be able to offer a complete product portfolio to its business-to-business (B2B) customers who have requirements for e-3 wheelers as well for both people and cargo mobility, the company said. "This acquisition will further strengthen our relationship with the domestic consumer by adding last-mile mobility products and services for uninterrupted journey, enhancing productivity across E-2W and E-3W spectrum," Nagesh Basavanhalli, MD and CEO of Greaves Cotton Ltd and director of Ampere Vehicles, said. He said combining Ampere's and Bestway's expertise will help in further boosting the company's growth and strengthen market positioning as a leading e-mobility business in India. The e-3wheeler segment has seen growth acceleration in the past few years and Bestway's ELE e-rickshaw has been one of the top-three brands in this organised segment in the high-growth markets of Eastern India and Eastern UP, the release said. Ampere Vehicles acquires Noida-based e-rickshaw firm Bestway Agencies with 74 pc stake

<keyword id="34499" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="private-equity">Private Equity</keyword> firms have invested around $ 4 billion through 128 deals during the quarter that ended this June. The figure is up by 80% year-on-year, a Venture Intelligence report says. 
 
The investment was 80% more than $2.24 billion in the April-June quarter last year. There were 115 transactions in total reportedly. 
 
The latest figures take the total PE investments in 2015 to $6.87 billion through 288 transactions, 53% more than the $4,480 million across 252 transactions in the first six months of 2014. 
 
The figures exclude private equity investments in real estate. According to the report there were several big deals in the second quarter of the year. There were 11 PE investments worth $100 million or more and 7 transactions were over $200 million during the second quarter of this year. 
 
The largest investment during the April-June quarter was Baring Asia's $440 million buyout of Blackstone-backed ATM cash management services firm CMS Infosystems, followed by Olacabs' $400 million fund raise from a group of existing and new investors (including GIC, DST Global, FalconBSE 1.27 % Edge Capital and Accel USA). 
 
Other major deals include, Advent International led $315 million buyout of a 34.4% stake in Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals from its promoter Avantha Group. 
 
Sector-wise, IT and ITES companies grabbed 44% of the investment by value terms (attracting $1.77 billion across 84 deals), followed by healthcare and lifesciences ($737 million across 10 transactions) and Energy ($309 million across 7 deals), the report said.

Indian shares closed nearly 2 percent lower, falling below a crucial support level, as a panic-induced sell-off in China hurt domestic sentiment on Dalal Street.

All 50 shares on the Index ended in losses. Metal stocks lead the losers' brigade as fears of a Chinese slowdown pushed them to fresh lows. The <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> fell 484 points to close at 27,688. Metal stocks, already reeling at multi-year lows, took another punch on their face as the world's biggest consumer of all things mineral and metal -- China -- went through a strong bout of volatility. Vedanta plunged 9 percent in trade. SAIL, Hindalco, NMDC, <keyword id="6357147" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Steel">Tata Steel</keyword> and stocks belonging to the <keyword id="179674" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jindal-Group">Jindal group</keyword> posted heavy losses. Chinese stocks markets closed 5 percent lower in trade today after a series of government initiated measures failed to stem a growing tide of foreigner-led equity sales in the world's second largest market. Chinese stocks are down more than 30 percent since the start of June on fears of excessive valuations and a possible slowdown in <keyword id="35050" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="gdp">GDP</keyword> growth. A classic Ripple Effect is happening in China as panicked investors head for the exit in droves. 

	Within the commodities space, underlying metals are in a severe bear market: Copper and Aluminium are trading at 6-year lows. The forward premia on Aluminium have halved to $150/T in global markets as fears of a slowdown in demand.
 Meanwhile, <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> hit a fresh 52-week low as fears of an impending slowdown in China, its main market for JLR cars, caused a fresh sell-off. 

	Yes Bank plunged 7.3 percent after a report by global brokerage UBS cut its price target to 740 rupees from share from 1,000 earlier.
 However, there were some stocks that bucked the bearish trend: Airline companies enjoyed the bounce as prices of Crude oil, fuel constitutes up to 50 percent of Airline costs, hit 3-month lows. Both <keyword id="6358200" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jet-Airways">Jet Airways</keyword> and Spice Jet saw positive movement. 

	Crompton Greaves posted modest gains on media reports that the company stuck a large deal to supply electrical motors to cement giant Lafarge.
