According to CRISIL Ratings the corporate credit ratio (upgrades vs downgrades) continues to be high -- at 5.52 times in the first half of this fiscal (H1-FY23) - underscoring ongoing broad-based improvement in India Inc's credit quality. The credit ratio was 5.04 times in the second half of the last fiscal (H2-FY22). Three reasons stand out: 1) strengthening domestic demand, with the economy expected to grow 7.3 % this fiscal; 2) higher realisations leading to better cash flows; and 3) continuation of debt-light balance sheets as capex remains low, CRISIL Ratings said. The credit ratio is in line with the positive credit quality outlook CRISIL Ratings had articulated earlier - that upgrades will far outnumber downgrades through this fiscal. Credit ratings on nearly 80 % of the CRISIL Ratings portfolio was reaffirmed, or there was no change during H1-FY23. For the rest of the portfolio, what has changed is the upgrade rate, which increased to 16.70 %, while the downgrade rate was flattish at 3.02 %. In all, there were 569 upgrades and 103 downgrades. According to the credit rating agency, the performance of upgraded companies improved significantly over the past three fiscals despite severe pandemic-related disruptions. "Around 35 % of all upgrades were from the infrastructure sector (including large realty players). Infrastructure sector is in a unique position of largely being a domestic story and generally decoupled from the global headwinds. Here, upgrades were driven by improved operating cash flows, completion of crucial project milestones and equity infusion. Indian corporate credit quality remains strong in H1 of FY23: CRISIL

New Delhi, <keyword id="19955699" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crisil-ratings" source="keywords">Crisil Ratings</keyword> on Monday said the credit quality outlook for Indian corporates remains positive for the April-September period of the 2024-25 fiscal year with upgrades continuing to outpace downgrades. In the last fiscal year, <keyword id="19898320" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crisil" source="keywords">Crisil</keyword> gave 409 rating upgrades and 228 downgrades. Some export-linked sectors, such as textile and seafood, saw a higher downgrade rate due to subdued global demand or high-cost inventory that impacted profitability. "India Inc's credit quality outlook is positive for the first half of fiscal 2025 with upgrades expected to outnumber downgrades. Multiplier effect of government capex will continue to drive infrastructure and linked sectors. Healthy balance sheets will continue to support the credit quality outlook, with capex funding seen prudent," <keyword id="21152659" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crisil-rating" source="keywords">Crisil Rating</keyword> said. It said the outstanding bank credit is expected to cross Rs 200 lakh crore by March 2025, from Rs 172 lakh crore a year ago, even though there would be moderation in the rate of credit growth. The Indian economy with a GDP growth of 6.8 per cent is expected to remain the fastest-growing large economy in the current fiscal. The growth will, however, moderate from 7.6 per cent expected in 2023-24 as high interest rates and lower fiscal impulse to growth will temper demand, according to Crisil. Crisil Ratings Managing Director <keyword id="20983741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gurpreet-chhatwal" source="keywords">Gurpreet Chhatwal</keyword> said the three key pillars of India Inc's credit quality -- deleveraged balance sheets, sustained domestic demand and government-led capex -- kept the upgrade rate elevated in the second half of FY24. "With balance sheets in most sectors at their healthiest, capacity utilisation around peak levels and expected interest rate cuts, a broad-based pick-up in private capex is finally in sight," Chhatwal said, adding that sectors with export linkages could have some uncertainties around them. Stating that bank credit outstanding could cross Rs 200 lakh crore by March 2025, credit growth will remain healthy, albeit a tad lower at 14 per cent this fiscal year. Credit growth was 16 per cent in the last fiscal year that ended on March 31. Overall gross non-performing assets (NPAs) will continue to trend down and touch fresh decadal lows, it said. Crisil Ratings Senior Director and Chief Ratings Officer <keyword id="21152658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="krishnan-sitaraman" source="keywords">Krishnan Sitaraman</keyword> said there is a likelihood of interest rate cuts globally in 2024. "We expect the RBI to cut interest rates in the second half of the current fiscal," Sitaraman said, adding that credit quality is likely to remain positive. The RBI is scheduled to announce its first monetary policy review for the current fiscal on April 5. For FY25, as many as 21 of 26 corporate sectors have strong to favourable credit quality outlook, marked by robust balance sheets and healthy operating cash flows -- expected to be as much, or higher, than in fiscal 2024. These include auto-component manufacturers, companies in the hospitality and education sectors where the credit quality is supported by healthy domestic demand. It also includes sectors benefiting from the government's infrastructure spending, such as construction companies, and steel, cement and capital goods manufacturers. Four corporate sectors -- specialty chemicals, agrochemicals, textile cotton spinning and diamond polishers -- are facing headwinds given their fortunes are aligned with global macroeconomic conditions, which are subdued at present.

Credit quality outlook of India Inc positive in first half of FY25: Crisil Ratings

The hot temperature if persists in March may not only reduce the wheat crop yield but also heat up the commodity prices, said <keyword id="6359483" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crisil" source="Orion">CRISIL</keyword>. The rabi wheat crop yield will be impacted if the temperature is high in March. The crop yield will be on a par - or marginally lesser - than last year's low, said CRISIL in a report. According to the report, in <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>, accounting for about 30 per cent of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s wheat production, the eastern part is expected to have relatively good yields on-year because of timely sowing after harvest of <keyword id="50318" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kharif" source="Orion">Kharif</keyword> paddy. On the other hand, western Uttar Pradesh could see a marginal decline due to late sowing - majorly in the sugarcane belt - if high temperatures persist in March. In Punjab and Haryana (together accounting for about 25 per cent of India's wheat production), late-sown wheat is in the flowering stage, while the early sown lot is in the milking stage. High temperatures are detrimental to grain formation in both these stages, CRISIL said. Similarly, in <keyword id="6355554" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="madhya-pradesh" source="Orion">Madhya Pradesh</keyword> (about 20 per cent of India's wheat production) late-sown wheat is at the milking stage. According to CRISIL, Bihar (about 5 per cent of India's wheat production) saw early sowing and the crop there is at the grain formation/maturation stage. Therefore, it could be impacted relatively less. Though such abiotic factors cannot be managed very effectively, farmers in Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh are said to have initiated spraying of crop nutrients such as bio-stimulants and specialty fertilisers, which should help them cope with the heat wave to some extent. "While wheat prices have been on a downward trend in the past 20 days, if these high temperatures persist for the next 20 days, there could be a turnaround in prices," CRISIL said. Consequently, dependence on incremental debt (excluding lease liabilities) for airlines would remain limited over the near-to-medium term, as a major part of recent large fleet purchase orders by airlines is expected to be received from fiscal 2026 onwards, and thus support their credit profiles, according to Jain. Domestic airlines industry expected to fly back into profitability next fiscal: Crisil

India will spend nearly Rs 143 lakh crore on infrastructure between fiscals 2024 and 2030, more than twice the Rs 67 lakh crore spent in the past seven financial years starting 2017, rating agency Crisil said on Tuesday. Of the total, Rs 36.6 lakh crore will be green investments, marking a five times rise compared with the amount spent during fiscals 2017-2023, it added. "India's infrastructure spending will double to Rs 143 lakh crore between fiscals 2024 and 2030, compared with 2017-2023," Crisil said in its Infrastructure Yearbook 2023. Crisil Ltd managing director and CEO Amish Mehta said the agency expects India's gross domestic product to grow at an average 6.7% through fiscal 2031 to be the fastest-expanding large economy. "Per capita income is seen rising from USD 2,500 now to USD 4,500 by fiscal 2031, creating a middle-income country," he said, adding that this growth will be underpinned by massive all-round infrastructure development, with sharp focus on integrating sustainability." While releasing '<keyword id="19169539" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crisil-infrastructure-yearbook-2023" source="Orion">CRISIL Infrastructure Yearbook 2023</keyword>', which includes a unique national index CRISIL InfraInvex, Mehta said policy interventions and a conducive investment climate have aided the uptrend in the CRISIL InfraInvex scores across sectors. "Four of these -- roads and highways, power transmission, renewable energy and ports -- have an overall score of 7-plus (out of 10), which underscores the pace of reforms and developments of the past few years," he added. The rating agency noted that the next phase of infrastructure development will be marked by growth in the average ticket size of projects and a significant number of mega-scale projects. Appropriate and consistent policy and regulatory interventions and focus on timely execution build an attractive case for various stakeholders to accelerate investments across infrastructure sectors, Crisil said. The renewable push The rating agency predicted that prominent sectors such as roads and power are expected to remain major contributors, while relatively nascent ones such as <keyword id="312660" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EVs" source="Orion">EVs</keyword>, solar, wind, and hydrogen will pick up pace. "The share of EVs in India's overall automobile sales is likely to reach 30% by 2030. "Two-wheeler EV sales are expected to outpace other segments up to 2028, while demand for EV buses will be driven by state transport undertakings," it said. According to Crisil, favourable total cost of ownership and total cost of acquisition, as well as model availability for two- and three-wheelers will support EV offtake in coming years. It said the share of renewable energy in total capacity is estimated to grow 4x between fiscals 2023 and 2030. While solar will account for half of the incremental non-fossil generation, Crisil said there is a growing need to leverage emerging technologies such as 'floatovoltaics' (floating solar), offshore wind technology and green hydrogen. Noting that the hydrogen sector is poised to attract substantial investments, estimated at Rs 1.5 lakh crore between fiscals 2024 and 2030, the rating agency said mandates for green hydrogen use and incentive schemes will be important here considering the cost of production of green hydrogen is twice that of fossil-based hydrogen. Crisil said India's first sovereign green bond issuance will pave the way for the development of the domestic bond market for green issuances. Over the past few years, global experience has shown increasing appetite for green assets among investors, leading to Indian companies seeking funds in global markets, it added.

India's infra spending to ride EV, solar, wind and hydrogen push

A slowdown in 2023 in advanced economies, especially the US and the eurozone, is expected to make <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s <keyword id="23820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="footwear" source="Orion">footwear</keyword> and leather products export trade vulnerable, said <keyword id="183985" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="crisil-ratings" source="Orion">Crisil Ratings</keyword>. "Domestic labour-intensive sectors such as textiles, footwear, and leather depend significantly on these two regions, making them particularly vulnerable to a slowdown in these economies," it said in a report titled 'The Slowdown Shadow'. It said since these regions being two of India's largest export destinations, a slowdown in their economies would lower demand for Indian <keyword id="35090" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exports" source="Orion">exports</keyword>. Many economists and global institutions earlier projected to a global slowdown in 2023, as the impact of continued monetary policy tightening across major economies manifests. Raising interest rates typically cools demand in the economy and thus helps in managing inflation, but it also has the potential to trigger a slowdown in overall economic activities. "Advanced economies are expected to bear the brunt as they aggressively pursued monetary tightening in 2022," <keyword id="6359483" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crisil" source="Orion">Crisil</keyword> said. The forecast of a global slowdown, Crisil said, is worrisome because India's growth cycles have become highly synchronised with those of advanced economies over the years. "The most important and direct impact of this will be reduced demand for Indian goods abroad. The US and European Union (EU) are two of the largest destinations, accounting for 18 per cent and 15.4 per cent, respectively, of India's merchandise exports in fiscal 2022," it added. It also raised concerns about India's textile exports. "It is noteworthy that labour-intensive categories such as leather articles, footwear, and textiles have the highest export dependence on these advanced economies," the report added.

India's footwear, textile exports vulnerable to global slowdown: Crisil

Ratings firm <keyword id="6359483" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Crisil">Crisil</keyword> has reaffirmed BBB rating on <keyword id="45660" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yes-Bank">Yes Bank</keyword>'s over Rs 18,000 crore bonds on the back of continued support by the country's largest lender SBI. Crisil has assigned its 'CRISIL BBB/Stable' rating to the Tier II bonds (under Basel III) of Rs 13,941 crore and infrastructure bonds of Rs 3,780 crore of Yes Bank, the recently bailed out lender said in a regulatory filing on Saturday. The agency has also reaffirmed its 'CRISIL A2' rating on certificates of deposit of Yes Bank. BBB ratings are of moderate safety with regard to servicing of financial obligations. While debt securities with A2 rating are considered to have strong degree of safety regarding timely payment of financial obligations. Such instruments carry low credit risk. "The ratings are underpinned by the expectation of continued extraordinary systemic support from key stakeholders and sizeable ownership by State Bank of India (SBI). "Crisil has taken note of <keyword id="9362711" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-yes-bank-ltd-reconstruction-scheme">the Yes Bank Ltd Reconstruction Scheme</keyword>, 2020, (the Scheme) that was notified by <keyword id="1576501" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Government-of-India">the Government of India</keyword> on March 13, 2020," Crisil said on the rating rationale. The reconstruction scheme followed the imposition of a moratorium on Yes Bank by the government on March 5, 2020, including the RBI, in order to bolster the bank's liquidity. The moratorium was lifted on March 18, 2020, and the bank has since been providing full-fledged banking services to customers. Under the reconstruction scheme, Yes Bank has, among other measures, got equity infusion of Rs 10,000 crore by 8 entities, mainly banks led by SBI. "However, the ability of the bank to limit further deposit outflow, and to build a strong retail liabilities franchise and a stable and sound operating business model with strong compliance and governance framework over the medium term, needs to be demonstrated," said the Indian arm of <keyword id="9362712" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-sp-global">the S&amp;P Global</keyword>. Crisil also said the bank's asset quality is weak and the impact of the shift in business model to focus on granular retail segments will need to be seen over a longer period. "These will be key rating monitorables. The nationwide lockdown declared by government to contain the spread of Covid-19 pandemic has impacted disbursements and collections of financial institutions," the agency said. The lockdown and restrictions are now being lifted in phases. Any delay in return to normalcy will increase pressure on collections and hence asset quality, it added. Further, moratorium to Yes Bank customers may impact collections in near-term and any change in payment discipline of borrowers can affect delinquency levels post the moratorium, Crisil said. "Given this, gross non-performing assets (NPAs) could rise due to weakening in most sectors. This may increase the credit cost in fiscal 2021, thereby impacting the profitability of the bank, and will be a key monitorable," it said. KPM BAL

New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): Benefiting from strong sales, organised gold jewellery retailers are set to clock 17-19 per cent <keyword id="19965932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-growth" source="keywords">revenue growth</keyword> in the current financial year 2024-25, according to <keyword id="19898320" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Crisil" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Crisil" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Crisil">Crisil</keyword>. The rating agency asserted that the projected revenue would be driven by higher realisations stemming from elevated <keyword id="19910265" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gold-prices" source="keywords">gold prices</keyword>, while volume remains steady. Gold, considered a safe haven asset for investment, has been in demand for considerable period of time, with its prices rallying to hit record highs every now and then. Geopolitical conflict in the West Asia that stretched for long now, buying by several central banks including RBI, physical demand, have altogether pushed gold prices towards northwards. Retailers are likely to step up marketing and promotional campaigns this fiscal to combat the moderation in demand amid rising gold prices, Crisil said on Wednesday. Hence, operating profitability may marginally moderate 20-40 basis points (100 basis points is equal to 1 percentage point) year-on-year to 7.7-7.9 per cent. "Working capital requirements may rise, too, resulting from increased inventory due to a substantial rise in gold prices and new stores additions. That said, credit profiles should remain stable," the rating agency noted. The organised gold sector accounts for slightly more than a third of the market, with the highly fragmented unorganised sector making up the rest. Domestic gold price increased 15 per cent during fiscal 2024 and reached Rs 67,000 per 10 gm as on end of March 2024. Now, they are trading at over Rs 74,000. Gold kept its shine as one of the safer investment options seen by various central banks across the world as well as end consumers amid geopolitical uncertainties. Gold is a scarce commodity, and any mismatch in demand-supply conditions may invariably trigger sharp price rise. <keyword id="722976" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="commercial-vehicle-manufacturers">Commercial vehicle manufacturers</keyword> are expected to incur a <keyword id="9796264" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="massive-net-loss">massive net loss</keyword> to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore in the <keyword id="426914" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="current-financial-year">current financial year</keyword>, with the volume likely to touch its lowest point in a decade after two consecutive years of high de-growth, <keyword id="516599" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ratings-agency-Crisil">Ratings agency Crisil</keyword> said on Thursday. In the April-June period of financial year 2021, as per data, the total CV (commercial vehicle) sale in the country stood at 31,636, a decline of 85 per cent year-on-year as the country remained in the Coronavirus-induced lockdown for most part of the June quarter and, most of the trade and business activities coming to a temporary halt. A 30 per cent decline in sales volume on an already weak base would lead to a nearly six-fold increase in a net loss to Rs 6,000 crore for commercial vehicle (CV) makers this fiscal, <keyword id="183985" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="CRISIL-Ratings">Crisil Ratings</keyword> said in the release. "Two consecutive years of high de-growth are likely to result in CV volume reaching its lowest point in 10 years. With utilisation down to a third, high fixed costs would dent the profitability of CV makers, " said <keyword id="94933" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manish-Gupta">Manish Gupta</keyword>, Senior Director, Crisil Ratings. Last time, in 2009-10, the total commercial vehicle sale in the country had clocked 5,33,000 units. Noting that commercial vehicles are a critical logistical link to the economy, it said a quick recovery in sales volume is critical as a slower rebound can elongate the pain for manufacturers. According to Crisil, the CV makers were already hit by new overloading norms and a slowing economy when the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, and sales volume had fallen 29 per cent in the fiscal year ended March 2020. In the first quarter of this fiscal, volume plunged another 85 per cent because of the pandemic-driven lockdown, it said. "The resultant sharp slowdown in industrial activity has hard-braked sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MHCVs), which account for two-thirds of the industry revenue. Sales of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) may fare better with support from the rural economy and private consumption," Crisil stated. Noting that the situation could constrain credit metrics in the current fiscal, the ratings agency said that the credit profiles of manufacturers will be supported by strong balance sheets and comfortable cash buffers Moreover, manufacturers may partly absorb BS-VI upgrade costs in their quest to stimulate demand. That could drive down segment operating margins to near-zero from an already low 6 per cent in fiscal 2020, and increase losses, said Gupta. Cash flows may stretch further as manufacturers will tend to support key stakeholders to reduce stress across the value chain and help them rebound next fiscal - such as by providing dealers leeway on payment terms and making timely payments to auto-component suppliers, Crisil said. However, that would temporarily increase the working capital requirements and raise the industry's debt by almost a third to Rs 40,000 crore this fiscal, it said. Consequently, credit metrics of the sector would be constrained, but credit profiles will be supported by strong balance sheets and expectation of a bounce-back next fiscal, it added. "The pandemic struck when the industry's gearing was 0.5 times - a shade lower than the year before the previous downturn in 2014. Despite the rise, we expect the gearing to be comfortable at 0.7 times by the end of the current fiscal. "Besides, manufacturers also have comfortable cash liquidity of nearly two times debt servicing needs," said Naveen Vaidyanathan, Associate Director, Crisil Ratings, According to Crisil while rising debt and weak profitability may constrain interest cover to nearly 1.5 times this fiscal from an average 7.1 times in the past five years, the number should recover next year with sales volume. The recovery is predicated on an expected pick-up in both industrial activity and private consumption, said the release adding commercial vehicles are a critical logistical link to the economy and hence sales volume is likely to bounce back next fiscal to reach almost fiscal 2020 level. Shopping mall operators are expected to earn 7-9 per cent higher revenue during this fiscal, driven by strong retail consumption and improved rentals in their properties, according to <keyword id="6359483" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="crisil" source="Orion">CRISIL</keyword>. "Buoyant retail sales and improved rental yields are expected to lift the revenue of mall operators by 7-9 per cent this fiscal. That would be tantamount to around 125 per cent of pre-pandemic, or fiscal 2020, revenue," it said in a statement. The rating agency said that the growth in revenue will be on a high base of FY23. During the last fiscal, CRISIL noted that "return to social normalcy after mobility curbs were lifted led to substantial growth in footfalls and a robust 60 per cent rise in revenue to around 116 per cent of the pre-pandemic level". "Additionally, high occupancy levels, solid profitability backed by cost-optimisation measures and strong balance sheets will keep the credit risk profiles of mall operators healthy this fiscal," the agency said. CRISIL Ratings has analysed 28 malls, which have leasable space of around 18 million square feet area spread across 17 cities, with a total debt of over Rs 8,000 crore. Typically, mall operators generate around 85 per cent of their income from minimum guaranteed rentals as per lease agreements, while the rest is linked to the revenue performance of the tenants. "The exceptional revenue growth last fiscal was on a significantly weak base. In fiscals 2021 and 2022, revenue stood at 55 per cent and 74 per cent of the pre-pandemic level, respectively, as mall operators had waived off rent and allowed flexible payment terms to tenants in a bid to prevent any major decline in occupancy," the statement said. As the impact of Covid-19 waned and occupancy increased, the average per square feet leasing rate jumped 12-14 per cent in fiscal 2023, it added. "Considering the healthy performance of the sector, capex is expected to pick up over the near to medium term. While a sizeable part of it may be funded by equity from global investors, a large debt contracted for new developments will bear watching," the agency said. On the flip side, CRISIL said that the impact of the slowdown in advanced economies, and the manifestation of the lagged effect of repo rate hikes of the past can curtail discretionary spending, including retail sales. Shopping mall operators' revenue to rise 7-9% this fiscal: CRISIL

New Delhi, Feb 26 () Rating agency Crisil on Wednesday said it has completed the acquisition of proprietary benchmarking data provider Greenwich Associates. The transaction was announced on December 19, 2019. "Greenwich will accelerate Crisil's strategy to be the leading player in the growing market of global benchmarking analytics across financial services," Crisil Managing Director and CEO Ashu Suyash said. Crisil has completed the acquisition of 100 per cent stake in the US-based company, the rating agency said in a filing to BSE. Greenwich is a provider of proprietary benchmarking data, analytics, and qualitative, insights to financial services firms worldwide. Based in Stamford, Connecticut, it serves over 300 clients across top investment banks, corporate banks, commercial banks, asset managers and key players in the market infrastructure space globally. Crisil completes acquisition of Greenwich Associates

New Delhi, Dec 23 () Profitability of domestic hospital sector would continue to improve in the current as well as next financial year driven by enhanced coverage under Ayushman Bharat as well as deeper expansion in smaller towns, says Crisil Ratings.
 The improvement in demand will also be driven by alterations made to healthcare delivery models by hospital chains to align with regulatory changes as well as factors like increasing lifestyle diseases and medical tourism.
 "With insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat scheme (up from Rs 1-3 lakh under various government schemes), preference for private hospitals is rising," Crisil Ratings said.
 The Crisil study covering 41 leading domestic hospital firms revealed that the bed additions in tier II cities will be higher in future, resulting in better materialisation of latent demand and adoption of Ayushman Bharat schemes.
 "Crisil expects 60-70 per cent of bed additions to come up in tier II locations in the next 2-3 fiscals," Crisil Ratings Senior Director Anuj Sethi said.
 Currently, healthcare facilities are clustered around tier I cities such as Chennai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Mumbai, he added.
 Even as revenue growth is set to increase to 14-15 per cent over fiscals 2020 and 2021, operating profitability of hospital firms is also expected to improve to 16 per cent over this period, Crisil said.
 "This will be supported by a rise in bed occupancy rates to 75 per cent from 60-65 per cent, automation and optimisation of clinical procedures, efficient sourcing, and continuing recalibration of pricing of services," it added.
 A series of regulatory events in financial years 2017 and 2018 had impacted revenue growth and profitability of private hospitals.
 While demonetisation and ban on large cash transactions impacted occupancy, implementation of GST, price cap on medical implants, and increase in minimum wages for nurses and staff moderated profitability, Crisil noted.
 With occupancy and cash generation improving, hospital firms (41 entities) are expected to expand capacities by investing around Rs 4,800 crore in fiscals 2020 and 2021, it added. MSS

New Delhi, Dec 20 () Rating agency Crisil Ltd on Friday said it will acquire proprietary benchmarking data provider Greenwich Associates LLC and its subsidiaries, at a consideration of USD 40 million (around Rs 284.3 crore).
 In a regulatory filing the company said that it has received board of directors approval for the acquisition of Greenwich Associates LLC and its subsidiaries.
 The subsidiaries of Greenwich Associates LLC are Greenwich Associates International LLC, Greenwich Associates Singapore PTE Ltd, Greenwich Associates Japan K K, Greenwich Associates Canada ULC, Greenwich Associates UK (Holdings) Ltd, and Greenwich Associates UK Ltd, it said.
 The acquisition will be done through Crisil Ltd's 100 per cent subsidiary, Crisil Irevna US LLC, the filing added.
 "The acquisition will complement Crisil's existing portfolio of products and expand offerings to new segments across financial services including commercial banks and asset and wealth managers," it said.
 The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals as applicable and meeting other customary closing conditions.
 The buyout is expected to be completed by the first quarter of calendar year 2020, it said.
 "We are very excited about bringing the two trusted brands together, and Greenwich's rich data sets will augment Coalition's proprietary data, enabling unique analytics and insights," Crisil Managing Director and CEO Ashu Suyash said.

The Indian pharmaceuticals industry is expected to log in a revenue growth of 8-10 per cent in current fiscal aided by a steady domestic growth and increased exports to regulated markets, even as semi-regulated markets face headwinds, according to a report. A study of 186 drug makers, which accounted for about half of the Rs 3.7 lakh crore annual revenue of the sector last fiscal, indicates as much, <keyword id="6359483" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crisil" source="Orion">Crisil</keyword> said on Monday. "Similar to last fiscal, domestic growth in fiscal 2024, will be led by 5-6 per cent increase in realisations, supported partly by high price hikes allowed by the <keyword id="390804" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-pharmaceutical-pricing-authority" source="Orion">National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority</keyword> (NPPA) for drugs under price regulation," Crisil Research Director <keyword id="13891160" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aniket-dani" source="Orion">Aniket Dani</keyword> said. In addition, sale of existing drugs and new launches will drive 3-4 per cent volume growth, he added. Operating profitability is also seen improving 50-100 basis points (bps) to 21 per cent this fiscal, supported by moderation in input and logistics costs, and abating pricing pressure in the US generics market, it said. This follows two consecutive years of margin contraction due to high pricing pressure in the US and a sharp rise in input costs caused by supply chain disruption during the Covid pandemic, and thereafter, Crisil noted. Credit profiles will remain stable owing to low-leverage balance sheets and moderate capex plans, it stated. In the ongoing fiscal, domestic sales are expected to witness 8-10 per cent growth with the chronic segment expected to be the key contributor to revenues, because of the steady increase in lifestyle-related diseases and continued emphasis on health awareness, post the pandemic, Crisil said. Formulation exports are seen up 7-9 per cent in rupee terms this fiscal, more driven by volumes, from new product launches, and abating price pressure in the US generics markets, it said. Lower input prices and normalisation of supply chains should cull inventories to pre-pandemic levels, resulting in smaller incremental working capital debt this fiscal, it added.
