Currently, U-WIN is in pilot mode across all states and Union Territories, except for West Bengal, which is yet to start uploading data, the sources told PTI, adding that it is still under consideration in the state. Minister of Finance <keyword id="19916618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="keywords">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> had announced in the interim Budget for 2024-2025 that U-WIN, along with intensified efforts under Mission Indradhanush, will be rolled out nationwide for managing <keyword id="21423640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="immunisation" source="keywords">immunisation</keyword>. "The U-WIN will ensure timely administration of vaccine doses by digitally recording every vaccination event under the Universal Immunisation Programme among all pregnant women and children aged 0-5 years," an official told PTI. "The portal will target 2.9 crore pregnant women and 2.6 crore infants (0-1 years) annually by providing 11 vaccines against 12 vaccine preventable diseases -- diphtheria, measles, rubella, and tetanus through more than 1.2 crore vaccination sessions across the country," the official added. The platform generates a uniform QR-based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificate, similar to Covid vaccination certificate, which can be accessed anytime by the citizens through a single click. Vaccination records under UIP are being maintained manually as of now. So this will do away with the hassle of keeping a physical record, the officials explained. It will enable the digitisation of session planning, and updating vaccination status on a real-time basis, they added. "Also, there is no mechanism of individual tracking. There is also lack of awareness among beneficiaries about session location and date especially in urban areas and iniquity in immunisation coverage in states and UTs," another official said. "Besides, another major issue is that immunisation at private health facilities is not recorded," the official added. The U-WIN is going to be the single source of information for immunisation services which will record pregnancy details and outcome, newborn registration and immunisation at birth. It will update vaccination status, and delivery outcome, among others, on real time, the official said. As of July 9, 2024, the pilot has registered 5.33 crore beneficiaries on U-WIN. Over 83.55 lakh vaccination sessions have been digitally conducted, and 18.15 crore vaccine doses have been recorded. The platform aims to reduce zero-dose and left-out children through a name-based tracking mechanism and empower citizens with anytime, anywhere access to vaccination services, particularly benefiting migratory populations, the official said. Citizens can self-register for vaccinations via the U-WIN web portal or its Android mobile application, select preferred vaccination centres, and schedule appointments. It also facilitates the creation of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs for comprehensive health record maintenance. The U-WIN also supports the frontline workers to digitally record all vaccination events for children and pregnant women for complete, accurate and easy record maintenance, the official said.

A COVID-19 SMS malware is targeting users in India as they look for alternatives to CoWIN for vaccine registration

The CoWIN mobile app along with alternative methods to register — the UMANG and Aarogya Setu mobile apps — crashed the moment registrations opened up at 4 p.m. The CoWIN website wasn’t sending out one-time-passwords (OTPs) initially either, but was back up in action within minutes. However, that’s about all the good news that there is. In order to get your OTP, you need to go to the main CoWIN portal, click on the registration button, enter your phone number. CoWIN website is back up after an early crash⁠ — finding a vaccination slot may still be difficult

<keyword id="10399714" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Co-WIN" source="Orion">Co-WIN</keyword> has developed a new <keyword id="89002" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="API" source="Orion">API</keyword> called 'Know Your Customer's/Client's Vaccination Status', or <keyword id="12066828" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kyc-vs" source="Orion">KYC-VS</keyword>, which will enable a verifying entity to know whether a person has been vaccinated against coronavirus or not, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday. Over 72 crore vaccine doses have been administered since the vaccination campaign against <keyword id="8763838" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="COVID-19" source="Orion">COVID-19</keyword> was flagged off on January 16 this year in the country. To provide proof of vaccination for each of these individuals, Co-WIN is already issuing a digitally verifiable certificate. This certificate can be saved on a digital device (smartphone, tablet, laptop etc), or stored in Digi Locker from where it can be digitally shared as and when required as proof of vaccination, the ministry said in a statement. Similarly, at entry points where such certificate is required (e.g., in malls, office complexes, public events etc), it may be shown in both digital and physical forms. However, there may be instances where an entity does not need to see the certificate in full and would just need to know whether an individual has been vaccinated or not, the ministry said. An enterprise/employer may like to know the vaccination status of its employees to resume functions in offices, workplaces etc, it added. The Railways may want to get the status of vaccination of the passengers who are getting their seats reserved in the trains. Airlines may want to get the status of vaccination of the passengers who are booking their flight tickets, and/or airports may only want to allow vaccinated passengers to pass through. Hotels may want to know the vaccination status of the residents at the time they are checking into the hotel, or at the time of making online bookings, it further said. "As the socio-economic activities are being gradually revived while maintaining everyone's safety, there is a need for a way to digitally convey the status of individuals' vaccination to entities with whom they may be engaging with for any or all reasons, as employees, passengers, residents etc. "Therefore, there is a need to enable an Aadhaar like authentication service for the status of vaccination through Co-WIN. To take care of these cases and others that may come up, Co-WIN has developed a new API called 'Know Your Customer's/Client's Vaccination Status' or KYC-VS," the ministry said in the statement. To use this API, an individual needs to enter his/her mobile number and name. Thereafter, they will get an OTP which they have to enter. In return, Co-WIN will send a response to the verifying entity on the individual's status of vaccination, which will be as follows: -- Person is not vaccinated -- Person is partially vaccinated -- Person is fully vaccinated This response will be digitally signed and can be shared instantly with the verifying entity, the ministry said. The KYC-VS is consent-based and privacy preserving, it added. Additionally, in order to facilitate quick integration and faster adoption, the Co-WIN Team has prepared a webpage with the API, which may be embedded in any system. This will allow for a seamless integration with any system in no time, the statement said. However, coders in India are coming to the rescue. For instance, the engineering manager at PhonePe, <a href="https://twitter.com/debarko/status/1388549978721636354">Debarko De</a>, has posted a script on code hosting platform GitHub to help people in Bangalore looking for appointment slots. Agra-based software developer Amit Agarwal has created a <a href="https://twitter.com/labnol/status/1388556580325453824">COVID-19 vaccine tracker</a>, built with Google Sheets, so that people can get alerts over email whenever an appointment opens up for a particular age group within a prescribed pincode. Many are questioning whether such an endeavour is legal or not. The list is not exhaustive, but does cover most of the main metropolitan regions across the country. And Thomas isn’t using the government’s API to do it. The API is only powering the alerts, not storing your information. Similar sites like <a href="http://www.getjab.in">getjab.in</a> and <a href="http://www.findslot.in">findslot.in</a> are also doing the same thing. And, the reason they’re being allowed to stick around is because users still have to login into the CoWIN platform to register. That part of the process cannot be done externally. This is important because this is where the government draws the line between what is allowed and what is not allowed to be done with its APIs. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What is an API?" comment="subhead" text="What is an API?">What is an API?</cmsannotation> An application programming interface, or API, is basically a bridge between two applications. It’s like the waiter who takes your order, ensures that it gets relayed to the chef, and then brings you your final meal. In the case of looking for CoWIN appointment slots, you’re placing your request on a website, and that website then relays it to the API, like the customer at the restaurant. The API then checks with the CoWIN portal — or the chef — before showing you the availability of slots. The Indian government opened up the CoWIN APIs to allow third party access, on April 28. They can be found on the government’s API Setu website which contains authentication, metadata, beneficiary registration, vaccination appointment and certificate APIs. With these APIs, the third party users can access information like vaccination centres, list of districts, vaccination appointments among others. There are two types of APIs -- public and protected. Using public APIs is not a problem and they’re freely available on the government site. In order to book an appointment, or even register, users have to share data that is personal and highly sensitive in nature. According to Step One, it does not store any of the data. It was only using the government’s open APIs, the bot passed user data to COWIN servers, and none of data was accessed by the organisation. The government has announced a new update that enables an applicant to correct any inadvertent errors in name, year of birth and gender printed on the <keyword id="10440405" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="cowin">CoWIN</keyword> vaccination certificate. <keyword id="66720" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="users">Users</keyword> can make the correction through the CoWIN website. <ul><li>Children aged between 15-18 years are now included in the new vaccination programme.</li><li>According to the guidelines by the Union Health Ministry, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is the only available option for this group.</li><li>According to the data given on the CoWin platform, over 3.5 lakh children in India aged between 15-18 years have registered for their first dose of COVID-19 shot.</li></ul>Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on December 25, 2021, had announced that the new vaccination programme will now include children aged between 15-18 years, which means that people born before 2007 are now eligible to get their COVID-19 shot, from January 3, 2022. According to the guidelines by the Union Health Ministry, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is the only available option for this group (between 15-18 years). All the states/union territories will get additional doses of Covaxin to administer this population. According to the Health Ministry, all the necessary protocols regarding the vaccination of children aged between 15-18 years will be strictly followed. Beneficiaries will have to wait for half an hour after the administration of the COVID-19 dose to be monitored for Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) and then only be eligible for the second dose after 28 days. Around 145 million of the population in India have been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Union Health Ministry data. And around 61 million people have got their second dose of COVID-19, while more than 84 million have received their first dose. According to the data given on the CoWin platform, over 3.5 lakh children in India aged between 15-18 years have registered so far for their first dose of COVID-19 shot, as of January 2, 2022. The eligible population can register themselves on the CoWin app. The registrations had started on January 1, 2022. They also have a walk-in registration option starting from today, i.e., January 3. How to book a COVID-19 vaccination slot for children aged between 15-18 years The Health Ministry has confirmed that the vaccination slot for children can be booked from a new or from an existing account. <ol><li>Open the <a href="https://www.cowin.gov.in/">CoWin</a> website on any smart device. </li><li>After opening, scroll down a little, you will see an option to book slots for children under the name ‘Vaccination for Children’, click on that. </li><li>Then, enter your new or existing mobile number for one-time password (OTP). </li><li>If you are a new member, then click on ‘Register Member’. Add all your details including year of birth, photo ID proof and number and then click on register. </li><li>Your number will be registered and then you can schedule an appointment for the vaccine. </li><li>If you have an existing number, then you simply click on ‘add new member’ and then enter all the details. </li><li>Click on ‘schedule’ on the right hand side of your screen and schedule an appointment according to your time and location. </li><li>After booking your slot, you will get an SMS on your registered mobile number and a confirmation letter, which you will have to download before going for your appointment. </li></ol>Important tip to note: Beneficiaries are advised to not to go for their vaccination empty stomach as it is not advised by the experts.
