Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions has rolled out India’s first self-testing COVID-19 kit named ‘CoviSelf’ — which has been approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) — at ₹250. Keeping in view the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, ICMR also issued advisory guidelines, on Wednesday, for home-based COVID-19 testing kit for Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). ICMR, in its guidelines, said that individuals who test positive may consider themselves as true positive and no repeat testing is required. Those who have all the symptoms and still test negative should go for the RT-PCR test, as sometimes RAT can miss a few positive cases depending on the viral load. One of the reasons behind this home-based self testing kit is to reduce the workload on COVID testing centres. Here’s how to use the CoviSelf kit — <ol><li>The kit contains a manual which describes how to use it. Read the manual carefully and keep it handy while using it. CoviSelf also<a href="https://coviself.com/video/"> uploaded a video</a> explaining how to use the kit. You can refer to that.</li><li>The kit comes in a pouch which contains a nasal swab and a pre-filled extraction tube and one testing card.</li><li>Users need to install <a href="https://coviself.com/">Mylab app</a> on their smartphones and will have to fill out all the credentials.</li><li>Without touching the head of the swab, insert it slowly inside both the nostrils upto 2-3 centimetres and roll the swab at least five times inside each nostril.</li><li>Dip the swab in the tube, and then pinch the tube from bottom. Stir the nasal swab at least 10 times so that the swab is immersed properly in the tube.</li><li>Break the swab from the breakpoint and then while covering the tube, add 2-3 drops to the test kit by pressing. Wait for 15 min for the results to appear. Note -- Result appearing after 20 minutes will be considered invalid.</li><li>After 15 minutes, the app will ring and will show the result. CoviSelf test kit — here’s how to check whether you are COVID-19 positive at home

The ICMR has granted approval to a Pune-based company for its new self-use rapid home-test kit for Covid-19 with results available in just 15 minutes. Named '<keyword id="11286845" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="coviself">CoviSelf</keyword>', the country's first Covid-19 home-test kit, priced at ₹250, has been developed by <keyword id="8949936" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mylab-Discovery-Solutions">Mylab Discovery Solutions</keyword>, Pune, and will hit the markets within a few days. The company had also given <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> its first RT-PCR <keyword id="50477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="test-kit">Test kit</keyword> last year which is now commonly used for Covid-19 tests. Mylab Discovery Solutions currently has a capacity of 70 lakh test kits per week and will enhance it to 1 crore test kits by early-June, its Managing Director Hasmukh Rawal said. The self-use test kit can be used by any symptomatic persons, or their immediate contacts of confirmed cases as per ICMR guidelines, and they can test themselves, go into isolation and get treatment quickly. Rawal said that each kit would comprise the requisite testing materials, instructions for use leaflet and a biohazard bag to safely dispose it off after testing. The test is done using nasal swab as compared to the deep nasopharyngeal swab to reduce the user's discomfort. CoviSelf will provide the results in just 15 minutes, and each pack has a unique QR code which must be entered along with the test outcome to get a report on the <keyword id="235499" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="APP">App</keyword>. "Since this eliminates the need for sample collection by a healthcare professional, it will greatly ease pressures on the overburdened testing labs, besides reducing delays in the test results, which is more than 72 hours in some parts of the country," said Rawal. With its CoviSelf, MDS hopes to reach Covid-19 testing virtually to the doorsteps of every Indian to help them fight the second pandemic wave and any subsequent waves, as it can be bought without prescription from any pharmacy, said Director Sujit Jain. "Most western countries have allowed self-test for their citizens and consider it as a powerful tool to break the chain. CoviSelf combines with Mylab's AI-powered mobile App so that a user can know his/her positive status, submit the result to ICMR directly for traceability, and know what to do next in either case of result.
