Currently, U-WIN is in pilot mode across all states and Union Territories, except for West Bengal, which is yet to start uploading data, the sources told PTI, adding that it is still under consideration in the state. The U-WIN platform captures every <keyword id="19933690" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vaccination" source="keywords">vaccination</keyword> event for pregnant women and children under the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP). Minister of Finance <keyword id="19916618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="keywords">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> had announced in the interim Budget for 2024-2025 that U-WIN, along with intensified efforts under Mission Indradhanush, will be rolled out nationwide for managing <keyword id="21423640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="immunisation" source="keywords">immunisation</keyword>. "The U-WIN will ensure timely administration of vaccine doses by digitally recording every vaccination event under the Universal Immunisation Programme among all pregnant women and children aged 0-5 years," an official told PTI. "The portal will target 2.9 crore pregnant women and 2.6 crore infants (0-1 years) annually by providing 11 vaccines against 12 vaccine preventable diseases -- diphtheria, measles, rubella, and tetanus through more than 1.2 crore vaccination sessions across the country," the official added. The platform generates a uniform QR-based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificate, similar to Covid vaccination certificate, which can be accessed anytime by the citizens through a single click. Vaccination records under UIP are being maintained manually as of now. So this will do away with the hassle of keeping a physical record, the officials explained. It will enable the digitisation of session planning, and updating vaccination status on a real-time basis, they added. "Also, there is no mechanism of individual tracking. There is also lack of awareness among beneficiaries about session location and date especially in urban areas and iniquity in immunisation coverage in states and UTs," another official said. "Besides, another major issue is that immunisation at private health facilities is not recorded," the official added. The U-WIN is going to be the single source of information for immunisation services which will record pregnancy details and outcome, newborn registration and immunisation at birth. It will update vaccination status, and delivery outcome, among others, on real time, the official said. As of July 9, 2024, the pilot has registered 5.33 crore beneficiaries on U-WIN. Over 83.55 lakh vaccination sessions have been digitally conducted, and 18.15 crore vaccine doses have been recorded. The platform aims to reduce zero-dose and left-out children through a name-based tracking mechanism and empower citizens with anytime, anywhere access to vaccination services, particularly benefiting migratory populations, the official said. "The U-WIN portal is likely to be launched pan <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> in August end," the official stated. Citizens can self-register for vaccinations via the U-WIN web portal or its Android mobile application, select preferred vaccination centres, and schedule appointments. Automated SMS alerts inform citizens about registration confirmations, administered doses, and upcoming dose reminders, ensuring timely and age-appropriate vaccinations. It also facilitates the creation of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs for comprehensive health record maintenance. The U-WIN also supports the frontline workers to digitally record all vaccination events for children and pregnant women for complete, accurate and easy record maintenance, the official said.

As per the report, all you need to do is enter the phone number of a person who has received the Covid-19 vaccine on a Telegram bot and it will fetch important details about the user. This, as per the report, has put important data such as Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID and passport of thousands of users at risk. This includes anyone who is above 60 years of age and people above 45 years of age with comorbidities. “The COVID-19 vaccine will be available across 10,000 government facilities and many private hospitals,” said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar during the cabinet briefing. While the vaccine will be given free of cost at government hospitals, the cost of the vaccine at private hospitals is yet to be decided by the Health Ministry. According to Javadekar, the benchmark for this will be decided within the next two to three days after consulting with the vaccine manufacturers. COVID-19 vaccination for senior citizens to start from March 1 in India — will be free at government hospitals

The <keyword id="8624004" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus-vaccine">coronavirus vaccine</keyword> developed by teams at the University of Oxford has been shown to trigger a robust immune response in healthy adults aged 56-69 and those over 70 years of age. The findings published in 'Lancet' on Thursday based on 560 healthy adult volunteers shows that the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine is "safe and well tolerated" with a lower reactogenicity profile in older adults than in younger adults, meaning the older age groups could build immunity to the disease. "These findings are encouraging because older individuals are at disproportionate risk of severe COVID-19 and so any vaccine adopted for use against SARS-CoV-2 [COVID-19] must be effective in older adults," the researchers note. The team is also testing whether the vaccine stops people developing COVID-19 in larger Phase 3 trials and early results from this crucial stage are expected in the coming weeks. "We were pleased to see that our vaccine was not only well tolerated in older adults, but also stimulated similar immune responses to those seen in younger volunteers," said Dr Maheshi Ramasamy, an investigator at the Oxford Vaccine Group. "The next step will be to see if this translates into protection from the disease itself," she said. This means there are now four promising vaccines on the horizon after Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik and Moderna already reporting good preliminary data from Phase 3 trials. The UK has already ordered 100 million doses of the Oxford vaccine, being manufactured by pharma major AstraZeneca. The vaccine also has a tie-up with the Serum Institute of India. Research like this raised concerns in the general public resulting in mass rejection of China's vaccines by the general public, and hence the Chinese authorities were not able to vaccinate its large population which finally led to an extreme Zero Covid policy. Countries like Turkey which accepted China's vaccines CoronaVac by Sincovac Biotech were not received well by their local population due to disbelief in Chinese research and the cases of data tampering that china had been involved in just to sell its vaccines internationally, according to The Singapore Post. Indonesia in December 2020 had given statements that they had received 97 per cent efficacy in Chinese vaccines. Although they changed their statement in 2021 stating its efficacy was a mere 65 per cent. Similarly, Brazil's declaration of the Chinese product's efficacy was at 78 per cent but later changed to 50.4 per cent, The Singapore Post reported. Thailand and Indonesia also revoked the Chinese vaccines that they were giving to the general public and replaced them with AstraZeneca. Although, for its healthcare workers, Moderna jabs were arranged as they were facing deaths even after being fully vaccinated by Sincovac's vaccine. Malaysia also later announced that it will also replace its vaccines with Pfizer vaccines soon, as reported by The Singapore Post. As per the report, all these attempts at data tampering ultimately were unable to hide the inability of Chinese vaccines to provide protection against the disease. Canada leads with enough supply to vaccinate each of its citizens five times. Meanwhile, 67 poor countries will only be left with enough doses to vaccinate one in every ten people against COVID-19. Five of the 67 low-income countries — Kenya, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan and Ukraine — have reported nearly 1.5 million cases between them. This is despite the fact that rich nations only account for 14% of the global population but they’ve bought up 53% of the vaccine candidates announced so far. Vaccines will only cover 18% of the global population in 2021 Despite the efforts of companies like Pfizer, Oxford, Moderna and others to scale up supply, the analysis concludes that they won’t be able to reach more than 18% of the world’s population by the end of 2021. Majority of the developing countries haven’t signed any deals and will have to share from the pool of COVAX vaccines being offered by the World Health Organisation (WHO). COVID-19 vaccines and who’s buying them The COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Pfizer and NioNTech has already received approval in the UK and vaccinations are already underway. The vaccine is also likely to receive approval from other nations as well, including the US, within the coming weeks. According to the report, all of Moderna’s doses and 96% of Pfizer’s doses have been acquired by rich countries. In India, the COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Oxford and AstraZeneca is the front runner since it can survive in warmer temperatures, putting less pressure on the already strained cold storage capacity available locally. And hence, most of the supply has been raked up by India as well as by China. The Russian vaccine, Sputnik, has also announced positive trial results and four other such candidates are currently engaged in phase 3 clinical trials. “No one should be blocked from getting a life-saving vaccine because of the country they live in or the amount of money in their pocket. But unless something changes dramatically, billions of people around the world will not receive a safe and effective vaccine for COVID-19 for years to come,” said Anna Marriott, Oxfam’s health policy manager.
