<ul><li><strong>Over ₹33.5 crore worth of <keyword id="495779" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="counterfeit-products">counterfeit products</keyword> were seized in Delhi-National Capital Region.</strong></li><li><strong>Bengaluru is second in the list with over ₹22 crore worth of counterfeit products.</strong></li><li><strong>In over 170 raid by law enforcement authorities, 144 arrests were made across the country.</strong></li></ul><keyword id="6367983" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="hp">HP</keyword>, one of the leading manufacturers of <keyword id="8426969" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="printing-products">printing products</keyword> in India has revealed that it has seized over ₹80 crore worth of counterfeit products from the country this year. These seizures are part of the company’s Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud (ACF) program in India.<br /><br />As per the report, the Delhi-National Capital Region tops the list with nearly 40% of all the seizures in the country. The second place is occupied by the country’s IT hub Bengaluru. <keyword id="869262" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="printing-material">Printing material</keyword> seized from Mumbai and Chennai where much smaller, about ₹6.5 crore and ₹3.5 crore.<br /><br />HP has revealed that over the past year, law enforcement authorities conducted over 170 raids across the country and 144 arrests were made after the raids. The authorities seized finished and unfinished cartridges, packaging materials, and various sets of labels which were bring used to manufacture counterfeit HP printing supplies during the raids.<br /><br />HP has said that in addition to working with authorities to prevent counterfeiting of its products, the company also conducts audits of its supply chain. Further, large and medium-sized customers can request a Customer Delivery Inspection (CDI) if they suspect counterfeit products in their delivery.<br /><br />HP also allows its customers and channel partners to report counterfeit products on its <a href="https://ssl.www8.hp.com/h41268/live/index.aspx?qid=21008&amp;cp_r11400_us/en/ipg/hp_anti_counterfeit/sticky-nav/report-online">website</a>. The company claims that customers who purchase products through the Channel Partner Protection Audits (CPPA) certified partners are assured about the authenticity of their products.<br /><br />Earlier this year, Xiaomi had filed a complaint with the Delhi Police and over 13 lakhs worth of counterfeit Xiaomi products were seized from four suppliers in Gaffar Market, New Delhi. As part of the raids, over 2000 fake products were seized by the police.<br /><br /><br /><br />

Of the 578 cases that researchers have information on, 78% of them indicated they had used THC-containing products.</p><p>A new report from California cannabis testing lab CannaSafe shared exclusively with Business Insider shines new light on a potential cause: counterfeit cannabis vape cartridges.</p><p>The report found that some of those cartridges have dangerously high levels of contaminants, such as vitamin E acetate. Some experts have theorized that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-is-vaping-dangerous-for-your-lungs-2019-9?utm_source=hearst&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=allverticals">chemicals in those cartridges, like vitamin E acetate,</a> might be behind the illnesses. The company also examined legal vape cartridges and didn't find these contaminants.</p><h2>Counterfeit vape cartridges were found to be contaminated with dangerous chemicals</h2><p>"There's a pretty clear division in terms of where the problem is," CannaSafe CEO Aaron Riley said in an interview. "This study paints a picture of how dangerous and bad the black market is."</p><p>The study found that out of 12 illicit vape cartridges tested, nine contained dangerously high levels of vitamin E acetate. Here's what officials knew and when.</a></em></p><p>CannaSafe also identified 16 different pesticides present in the counterfeit vapes, with some containing up to 8 parts per million of lead and heavy metals.</p><p>The counterfeit THC products were all mislabeled, and some contained much more THC than claimed on their labels, the study found. Business Insider previously reported on a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/study-cbd-products-are-mislabeled-and-contain-dangerous-chemicals-2019-4">CannaSafe study of CBD products that found only 15% of products sold legally in the California market matched their label claims</a>, and some contained dangerous chemicals including ethanol and ethylene oxide. </p><h2>Legal vape cartridges didn't contain dangerous contaminants</h2><p>Out of the 104 legal vape cartridges CannaSafe tested for this study, none contained any vitamin E acetate or any pesticides, and all matched the amount of THC claimed on their labels. </p><p>In California, cannabis vapes must meet stringent standards - which tests for things like pesticides, emulsifiers, and heavy metals - while illicit vapes, like any other illicit drug, do not. Riley said none of the illicit vapes would have met California's standards.</p><p>CannaSafe's recent report builds off a study the lab <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/health/vaping/tests-show-bootleg-marijuana-vapes-tainted-hydrogen-cyanide-n1059356">conducted for NBC News</a>, which found that 13 of 15 illicit vapes procured in California contained vitamine-E and myclobutanil. </p><p>In the new study, CannaSafe specifically tested knockoff vapes that copy the labels of popular legal products but are produced illegally.</p><p><em><strong>Read more</strong>: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/study-cbd-products-are-mislabeled-and-contain-dangerous-chemicals-2019-4">A California company tested 20 popular CBD products and found 'insanely high levels' of dangerous chemicals and misleading labels</a></em></p><p>For example, a Heavy Hitters cartridge, a popular brand of high-THC vapes sold in legal California dispensaries, contained no Vitamin E or pesticides and contained exactly the amount of THC claimed on the label.</p><h2>The risk of a 'knee-jerk reaction'</h2><p>A knockoff Heavy Hitters cartridge bought from an illicit seller - with very similar branding - contained high levels of vitamin E acetate, as well as pesticides including myclobutanil, bifenazate, etoxazole, permethrin, and others.</p><p>These findings were replicated for three other counterfeit vape products, including knockoff Stiizy and King Pen cartridges. The illicit versions contained lots of potentially dangerous chemicals.</p><p>"I think that's the most dangerous thing for consumers," Riley said. With great popularity comes the burden of counterfeiting. Chinese smartphone maker <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> is one such victim in India. Fake phones and accessories have become so rampant that Xiaomi posted a <a href="https://twitter.com/XiaomiIndia/status/1218896647565930496">video </a>on how to differentiate between original headphones and fakes.<br /><br />Last year, 2,000 counterfeit Xiaomi accessories valued at over ₹13 lakh were <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/fake-xioami-phones-accessories-worth-rs-13-lakh-seized-from-delhi-s-karol-bagh-11575619913310.html">seized</a> by the Delhi police from Gaffar Market following a complaint from the company. The counterfeit products seized include Mi power banks, Mi Neckbands, Mi Headphones, Redmi AirDots, Mi 2-in-1 USB Cable, etc.<br /><br />In an earlier <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/counterfeit-products-cause-over-rs-1-lakh-crore-loss-annually-in-india-aspa-119081100350_1.html">statement</a> to PTI, ASPA President Nakul Pasricha said, “At present counterfeiting causes around ₹1.05 lakh crore losses to India per annum. If counterfeiting is curbed by 50 percent through proper implementation of authentication solutions, enforcement, awareness, and monitoring, it can save more than ₹50,000 crore per annum".<br /><br />Xiaomi isn’t the only company affected by fake products. A <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/fake-smartphone-industry-delhi-nehru-place-gaffar-market-investigation-1607679-2019-10-09">report</a> by India Today has revealed how fake iPhones are assembled in Nehru Place in Delhi. Xiaomi warns users about fake headphones – Here's how to identify when you're being duped

<ul><li>"Action has been initiated" against <keyword id="8181189" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="pakistani-drones-smuggling-arms">Pakistani drones smuggling arms</keyword> and ammunition into India, said <keyword id="15141" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Air-Force">Indian Air Force</keyword> (IAF) Chief — Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria.<br /></li><li>He stated that the drone smuggling is a space violation issue and the necessary steps will be taken. <br /></li><li>Three consignments of weapons, ammunition, narcotics and counterfeit currency were seized by the Punjab police in September.<br /></li></ul>Drones smuggling arms and ammunition across the border is the new threat that India faces from its neighbour Pakistan, according to the new Indian Air Force (IAF) chief — Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria.<br /><br />"Small drones are a new threat and some procurements are already in process to tackle the issue. It is a space violation issue and necessary action has been initiated in this aspect," stated Bhadauria at the annual Air Force Day press conference.<br /><br />The heightened security on the Indo-Pak border means that terrorists have had to shift their smuggling routes to Punjab to deliver weapons, ammunition, narcotics and counterfeit currency.<br /><br />So far, three such consignments have been caught by the Punjab police. <br /><strong>Inquiry by the <keyword id="6362387" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-investigation-agency">National Investigation Agency</keyword> (NIA)<br /></strong><br />The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is already looking into the multiple cases of drones being used by Pakistan to smuggle arms into India.<br /><br />According to Pakistani Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, these drones are GPS-enabled and can carry upto 10 kilograms.<br /><br />The first consignment was caught on 12 September 2019 where the police seized four AK 56 rifles, two AK 47 rifles with 180 rounds, six magazines and 11,000 bullets.<br /><br />The second consignment was much larger. Action initiated against Pakistan for using drones to smuggle arms, says Indian Air Force Chief

Most large venture funds still won't touch the industry, so there's a dearth of growth-stage capital, founders say.</p><p>Cannabis startup founders shared four key lessons for raising money in the unique industry with Business Insider. </p><h3><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/square-will-now-serve-cbd-clients-expanding-beta-test-2019-10">Square's top lawyer explains what's behind the company's push into the trendy CBD space</a></h3><p>Square is rolling out its full payment-processing platform to all CBD sellers in the US.</p><p>The company is opening up its platform to CBD sellers after it conducted a three-month "invite-only" beta program, which started in May, for a small group of CBD startups. </p><p>Square is solving one of the biggest issues for CBD merchants, which often have to use high-risk payroll processors and pay exorbitantly high fees.</p></section></section><h2>Capital raises, M&amp;A activity, partnerships, and launches</h2><ul><li>PathogenDx, a DNA-based testing technology for the cannabis and hemp industries, closed a $7.5 million Series B round led by Entourage Effect Capital, Altitude Investment Management, and more.</li><li>Cresco Capital Partners announced its name change to Entourage Effect Capital. The firm is launching a new fund with an initial target of $150 million, managing partner Matt Hawkins told me on the sidelines of the Arcview conference. </li><li>Canopy Growth purchased a 72% stake in Biosteel Sports, with a path to complete ownership. As part of the deal, Canopy and Biosteel will produce a CBD-infused beverage as soon as regulations permit.</li><li>Cannabis website Leafly has launched a super-cool new tool: <a href="https://www.leafly.com/info/cannabis-guide">The Leafly Cannabis Guide</a>. Built by Harvard Neuroscience Ph.D. and Leafly data scientist Nick Jikomes, the tool breaks down the active compounds in cannabis - including the terpenes and cannabinoids - and puts it into a handy visualization tool so you can see exactly what's in your strain. </li><li>Vape company Dosist is launching a dose-controlled sublingual THC tablet.
