<ul class="summary-list"><li>Ex-<keyword id="6354862" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="trump" source="Orion">Trump</keyword> campaign manager Corey Lewandowski is barred from Trump properties, The Daily Beast said.</li><li>The ban came directly from former President Donald Trump, The Daily Beast reported.</li></ul><p>Corey Lewandowski, a campaign manager for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential run, is barred from Trump's properties and events, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/allen-west-goes-on-anti-vaxx-tirade-amid-covid-diagnosis">The Daily Beast</a> reported.</p><p>According to the report, the request came at the behest of Trump himself after a Republican Party donor, Trashelle Odom, publicly alleged that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/corey-lewandowski-sexual-harassment-allegation-vegas-trump-campaign-trashelle-odom-2021-9">Lewandowski "stalked" her</a> and grabbed her "legs and buttocks." </p><p>If Lewandowski is seen at a MAGA event or Trump property, Trump associates are supposed to alert security or personally shoo him away, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/allen-west-goes-on-anti-vaxx-tirade-amid-covid-diagnosis">The Daily Beast</a> reported.</p><p>In text messages and an email, Trump confidants were told to "remove Lewandowski (at least for now) from invitations and emails for upcoming GOP and MAGA festivities," according to the report.</p><p>In 2016, Lewandowski had a similar falling out with Trumpworld after being seen on video grabbing a Breitbart reporter by her arm. <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/authorities-drop-battery-charges-against-trump-campaign-manager-corey-lewandowski-n556051">Charges were later dropped</a> by Palm Beach County prosecutors in Florida.</p><p>Lewandowski did not respond to Insider's request for comment and has previously denied Odom's allegation through an attorney.</p><p>A representative for Lewandowski sent a statement to The Daily Beast denying the report.</p><p>"Neither Mr. Lewandowski nor anyone on his legal team has received any communication consistent with the claim that he has been asked not to go to any Trump property," they said in the statement. "Absolutely none."</p><p>Trump's press office did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. The Daily Beast did not receive a response from Trump's spokesperson but said it did reach someone "who answered a call to a phone number for Eric Trump" but "denied being Eric Trump."</p><p>"Asked about Lewandowski, the man hung up," the outlet added.</p><p>The Trumpworld rift with Lewandowski resulted in the formation of a PAC outside the former campaign manager's control, described in a recent press release as "the ONLY Trump-approved super PAC," according to The Daily Beast.</p><p>That super PAC has been rebranded as "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-super-pac-rebrands-make-america-great-again-again-2021-10">Make America Great Again, Again</a>."</p>

Corey Lewandowski is barred from Trump's properties, and people were told to alert security if they see him: report

<ul class="summary-list"><li>In a new book, David Enrich takes a deep dive into the 127-year-old law firm Jones Day.</li><li>Donald McGahn, a partner at Jones Day, left the firm to serve as Trump's White House counsel.</li></ul><p>In February 2015, Don McGahn arrived at Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. McGahn was a star lawyer in conservative circles; he had spent years representing a who's who of Republican politicians and causes. His crowning achievement had been several years on the Federal Election Commission, where, to the delight of GOP lawmakers, McGahn helped water down campaign-spending regulations and slowed the agency's rulemaking to a crawl.</p><p>These days McGahn was a partner at the international law firm Jones Day, part of a new team devoted to helping Republicans win elections and stay out of trouble. Trump, who was preparing to launch a bare-bones presidential campaign, was trying to bolster his credibility among conservative voters.</p><h2>That was why McGahn was at Trump Tower</h2><p>The lawyer rode a golden elevator up to the twenty-sixth floor and was led into Trump's office. Trump was sitting behind his cluttered desk. After what seemed like an hour of small talk, Trump got to the point. What do you charge? he asked.</p><p>"My hourly rate is $800," McGahn replied.</p><p>"No shit," Trump exclaimed. "Good for you."</p><p>Later that month, Trump began taking steps to show that his easy-to-dismiss candidacy was for real. To underscore his seriousness, he mentioned that he had hired McGahn. "I'm not doing this for enjoyment," Trump said. "I'm doing this because the country is in serious trouble." (In perhaps a more telling sign of his seriousness, Trump also noted that he was holding off on another season of Celebrity Apprentice, his NBC reality show.)</p><div type="image" title="Servants of the Damned cover" height="2775" width="1838" msid="94254849" hostid="261"></div><p>One day in the spring of 2015, McGahn took a Jones Day associate over to Trump Tower. The associate was eager to soak up campaign experience, and McGahn figured the fledgling Trump campaign would be an interesting experience for the young lawyer. The associate would get a firsthand glimpse of how some no-frills campaigns functioned. Also, unlike those with professionally run outfits, the Trump folks wouldn't mind a random lawyer showing up. "I can't take you to Rick Perry's campaign, because they're serious," McGahn told his colleague.</p><p>The meeting was with Cory Lewandowski, who was the campaign's manager, and Alan Garten, a longtime Trump Organization executive. After sandwiches at the Trump Grill in the building's lobby, the men moved upstairs to the nerve center of the Trump Organization. They sat in Lewandowski's little office, down the hall from Trump's large one.</p><h2>The meeting was completely unstructured</h2><p>Lewandowski showed off the campaign's new letterhead, and he asked for the lawyers' input on their talking points on issues like abortion (Trump had previously been pro-choice).</p><p>Toward the end of the meeting, Lewandowski asked about how to account for the campaign's use of Trump's private jet. The campaign would have to reimburse Trump for flights; was it okay if they just guessed how much each trip cost? McGahn patiently informed them that, no, they could not just guess, there were rules about this, and they needed to be followed.</p><p>"These guys are morons," McGahn told the associate afterward. (McGahn disputed the quotes attributed to him, in particular the word "moron." "I certainly have some go-to phrases, but that is not one of them," he said. He added that "many of the folks I met in New York were quite sharp and impressive in their chosen fields—though many of them had little or no political experience.")</p><div type="image" title="David Enrich" height="5976" width="3984" msid="94254850" hostid="261"></div>On April 23, 2015, a check for $6,451.38 arrived at Jones Day. It was the first payment from the Trump campaign. McGahn and his colleagues hadn't done much work for Trump yet, but it was time for him to start paying.<p>Trump's reputation for shortchanging his lawyers (and banks and contractors and customers) was well-known. Trump had tried to wriggle out of what he owed one attorney after another, ranging from solo practitioners to partners at big firms.</p><p>Back in the 1990s, a lawyer at a white-shoe firm had done some work for Trump.</p><h2>The bill came to about $2 million, and Trump refused to pay</h2><p>After a while, the lawyer lost patience, and he showed up, unannounced, at Trump Tower. Someone sent him up to Trump's office. Trump was initially pleased to see him—he didn't betray any sense of sheepishness—but the lawyer was steaming. "I'm incredibly disappointed," he scolded Trump. "There's no reason you haven't paid us."</p><p>Trump made some apologetic noises. Then he said: "I'm not going to pay your bill. I'm going to give you something more valuable." What on earth is he talking about? the lawyer wondered. "I have a stallion," Trump continued. "It's worth $5 million." Trump rummaged around in a filing cabinet and pulled out what he said was a deed to a horse. He handed it to the lawyer.</p><p>"This isn't the 1800s," the lawyer stammered once he regained the capacity for speech. "You can't pay me with a horse." After the lawyer threatened to sue, Trump eventually coughed up at least a portion of what he owed.</p><p>Jones Day, too, wanted to be paid with money. So a decision was made that Trump would pay a regular retainer. In addition, there would be a strict schedule for disbursing any other fees or reimbursements. (McGahn said there was not an unusual payment schedule. "The Trump campaign was billed in regular order and paid regularly," he told me.)</p><h2>Even after that timetable was established, Jones Day lawyers—including some working for the Trump campaign—doubted it would hold</h2><p>"We figured he wouldn't pay, and that would be the end of it," one told me. But against all odds, Trump paid and paid again. Within a few months, he'd forked over tens of thousands of dollars—including more than $29,000 on June 16.</p><p>That same day, McGahn was back at Trump Tower. He stood on the mezzanine level of the lobby as Donald and Melania Trump descended on an escalator to a makeshift, flag-studded stage, where Trump formally launched his candidacy. McGahn watched the small crowd go nuts. Then he listened as his client laced into immigrants and the Beltway establishment. Trump once tried to pay a $2 million legal bill with a horse, a new book reveals. His reputation for shortchanging lawyers made the firm that helped him win the 2016 election doubt they would get paid at all.

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="6354484" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Donald-Trump">Donald Trump</keyword>'s 2016 campaign looked finished when he said McCain wasn't a "war hero."</li><li>Pundits and conservative talk show hosts said he had to apologize or he was out.</li><li>But his wife agreed with Trump, his former campaign manager Cory Lewandowski told Insider.</li></ul><p>Former first lady <keyword id="3219462" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Melania-Trump">Melania Trump</keyword> shared her husband's low opinion of the late Republican Sen. <keyword id="27703" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="John-McCain">John McCain</keyword>'s military record.</p><p>She agreed with then-candidate Donald Trump when he said during a 2016 GOP primary event in Iowa that the Arizona senator was "not a war hero," according to Trump's former campaign manager Cory Lewandowski.</p><p>Lewandowski, who spoke to Insider as part of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-trump-took-over-gop-2021-7">an oral history project on Trump's takeover of the GOP</a>, said he and Trump met up with Melania Trump in New Jersey as political pundits and conservative talk-show hosts were saying Trump had to apologize. He thought the comment would end Trump's campaign.</p><p>"As we walked in the door, Mrs. Trump was waiting for us," Lewandowski said. "She said: 'You're right. John McCain isn't a war hero. What he has done for the veterans has been shameful.'"</p><p><em><strong>Read more: </strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/how-trump-took-over-gop-2021-7">The definitive oral history of how Trump took over the GOP, as told to us by Cruz, Rubio, and 20 more insiders</a></em></p><p>Michael Cohen, who worked during the 2016 campaign as Trump's personal attorney, acknowledged to Insider as part of the oral history project that Melania Trump wasn't shy about sharing her thoughts to her husband.</p><p>"Melania played a very limited role during the campaign not believing Donald would actually win," Cohen said. "However, when directly asked for her opinion on a matter by Donald, she offered it readily."</p><p>In an emailed response to Insider, the former first lady's office disputed Lewandowki's recollection, calling the information "inaccurate."</p><p>"Mrs. Trump respects and values all service men and women who have served and are currently serving our great Nation," her office said.</p><p>Trump attacked McCain in July 2015 during the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, in the first of several moments when it looked like Trump's campaign was over before it had even really begun. McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, had been a prisoner of war in Vietnam.</p><p>"He's not a war hero," Trump told the moderator Frank Luntz. "He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."</p><p>Trump's gripes about McCain <a href="https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/20/trump-mccain-funeral-1230483">continued after his death</a> on August 25, 2018. Trump <a href="https://time.com/5461466/cindy-mccain-trump-john-mccain-funeral/">was not invited</a> to the funeral, although former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush both delivered eulogies.</p><p>When McCain died, Melania Trump <a href="https://twitter.com/FLOTUS45/status/1033515442244018177">tweeted</a>, "Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy to the McCain Family. Thank you Senator McCain for your service to the nation."</p><p>A day later, her husband <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/25/politics/trump-mccain-tweet-death/index.html">broke his silence on McCain's death and tweeted,</a> "My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Congress also needs to fund the federal government before midnight or there will be a shutdown. <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/09/29/biden-pelosi-democrats-infrastructure/">This is set to be a busy and consequential day on Capitol Hill</a>.</p><p><strong>The Senate is expected to vote first on averting a shutdown: </strong>Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he had a deal with Republicans to move quickly on a stop-gap bill, CNN reports. <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/29/politics/government-funding-shutdown-vote/index.html">The House could move quickly following Senate passage</a>.</p><div type="image" title="Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden" height="1667" width="2500" msid="86642158" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>As for infrastructure, neither side is blinking: </strong>Pelosi is making a big gamble on passing the bill. Lawmakers like Rep. Almost all of the pregnant people who have been hospitalized with COVID-19 in 2021 in the US - an estimated 97% - have been unvaccinated. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cdc-new-data-show-pregnant-people-have-high-death-risk-from-covid-19-2021-9">New data indicates that being pregnant almost doubles the risk of death from COVID-19</a>.</p><p><strong>9. <p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Donald Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, was charged with misdemeanor battery on Tuesday in relation to an incident earlier this month where he was accused of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-corey-lewandowski-breitbart-reporter-2016-3">manhandling Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields</a>&#xa0;at a rally.<p>The Trump campaign released a statement following the news of the charge:</p><p>"Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge. He will enter a&#xa0;plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. Donald Trump campaign manager charged with simple battery in alleged incident with reporter

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>AP Photo/Gerald Herbert</span></p><p class="caption">Kellyanne Conway.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Tensions between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump's campaign aides reached a boiling point at a post-election panel Thursday, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/shouting-match-erupts-between-clinton-and-trump-aides/2016/12/01/7ac4398e-b7ea-11e6-b8df-600bd9d38a02_story.html?utm_term=.f716a036065c">The Washington Post</a> reported.</p><p>Managers who represented the dueling campaigns met at a session sponsored by Harvard University's School of Government.</p><p>During the meeting, Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri accused former Trump campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway of running a campaign that gave voice <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-the-alt-right-2016-8">to the alt-right, a white-nationalist movement</a>.</p><p>"If providing a platform for white supremacists makes me a brilliant tactician, I am proud to have lost," Palmieri said. "I would rather lose than win the way you guys did."</p><p>Conway took umbrage at that, calling Clinton's campaign honchos "bitter" that they lost, and challenging them to accept Trump as their president.</p><p>"Hey guys, we won," Conway said. "He was the better candidate. That's why we won."</p><p>"I said to Mr. Trump, 'You're running against one of the most joyless presidential candidates in history,'" Conway said, referring to Clinton. "'Why don't we find a way to be the happy warrior?'"</p><p>Things escalated when Clinton's chief strategist, Joel Benson, said Trump relied on dog whistles to stir up racial tension at his rallies. "Look at your rallies. He delivered it," Benenson said.</p><p>Conway replied: "Guys, I can tell you're angry, but wow. Hashtag he's your president. How's that? Will you ever accept the election results? Will you tell your protesters that he's their president, too?"</p><p>For Clinton's part <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hillary-clinton-concession-speech-trump-election-2016-11">she urged supporters to give Trump a chance</a> during her concession speech last month.</p><h2>Railing against media coverage</h2><p>During a dinner event earlier this week, representatives of some primary Republican challengers took aim at media coverage of the election, <a href="http://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/jeff-zucker-harvard-heckled-cnn-trump-coverage-232090">according to Politico</a>. CNN's chief executive, Jeff Zucker, took fire for giving Trump copious airtime during the primary and general election.</p><p>Zucker was having none of it.</p><p>"I have to respectfully push back on the campaign managers ... because frankly, respectfully, I think that's bull----, Zucker said. "We asked [Trump] to do interviews and he agreed to do them. We continuously asked the other candidates to come on and do interviews."</p><p>Some in the crowd disagreed, including an aide to GOP primary challenger Carly Fiorina who said, "I don't remember getting invited to call in."</p><p>Todd Harris, a senior adviser to Marco Rubio, said on-air interviews were not the problem: "You showed empty podiums," Harris told Zucker, referring to the sometimes uninterrupted coverage of the ubiquitous Trump campaign rally.</p><p>Zucker also took criticism for hiring former Trump campaign manager Cory Lewandowski after Lewandowski was fired from the campaign in August - <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-former-corey-lewandowski-paid-cnn-2016-9">and while he was apparently still receiving severance pay from the campaign</a>.
