Indian companies across multiple sectors have reported disappointing results in the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, notes a new JM Financials report. Consequently, their poor performance has triggered stock price corrections for affected companies. The brunt of this weaker than expected earnings was largely borne by consumer centric sectors like FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), retail, and auto, which slacked largely due to dampened urban demand. For instance, India's largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki, reported a 5% YoY decline in its total domestic passenger vehicle wholesales, largely on the back of pent-up inventory. Similarly, Honda reported a staggering 23% YoY dip in its total sales during October 2024. A recent report by Bernstein noted that around 48% of the companies listed on the NSE100 index missed their earnings estimate for Q2FY25, the highest since March 2020. Most companies have mentioned deteriorated domestic demand, urban slowing, macroeconomic risk, and margin pressures as the main reasons behind the dip. "The quarter's earnings have made investors nervous," noted the JM Financials report. The challenging environment stems from multiple factors: softening consumer demand, rising input costs, and companies' limited ability to increase prices. Moreover, this is not limited to just one quarter. Companies have been reporting weak, single-digit earnings growth for the last six consecutive quarters. Data from India Data Hub also suggests that corporate profits of listed companies plunged by as much as 3.4% during the quarter ended September 30, 2024. This is in stark contrast to the year-ago period, where they had shot up by over 40% The oil and gas sector had a difficult quarter, with refiners hit by weak margins and city gas distributors struggling with higher input costs. Financial institutions showed mixed results. While government-owned banks reported strong numbers, microfinance institutions and some private lenders faced massive difficulties with their unsecured loans. Most notable amongst this was the case of IndusInd Bank, which saw its net profits dip by 40% amidst burgeoning provisions, which climbed 87% to Rs 1,820 crore in Q2, as against Rs 974 crore reported in the year-ago period. <h2>Markets head southwards</h2>The selling trend by FPIs has dragged down the major Indian indices, the Nifty 50 and Sensex, both of which have dropped by around 8% since the beginning of this selling spree in October. According to National Securities Depository Ltd. (NSDL) data, FPIs offloaded equities worth a significant Rs 19,994 crore in just the first five trading sessions of November last week. The impact is clearly visible on Indian stock markets. Data suggests that while every sector in October closed the month in red, auto, oil and gas, and consumer durables were the most badly hit, each declining by as much as 10% during the month. Another indicator underlining the inherent weakness of the market was that the month saw only 242 stocks hit their 52-week high, significantly below the usual monthly average of 310.

There will always be things that research won't prepare you for, so I've learned to expect the unexpected. Looking back, I would have told myself to save up as much money as possible, as it takes time to get settled when arriving in a new place.<h2 id="258d8f26-ee72-48d6-a042-117f4d0d1d83">2. Don't be afraid to leave your comfort zone</h2>Eventually, I got tired of struggling with bureaucracy and decided to leave Berlin. At this point, I'd begun working remotely, so I opted to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-places-to-go-in-europe-travel-planner-favorite-destinations-2024-10">travel around Europe</a> for a while. I visited dozens of countries over the course of about a year and a half.While this period was fun and rewarding, transitioning to a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/spending-2023-digital-nomad-lonely-daunting-what-really-matters-2024-1">nomadic lifestyle was a challenge</a>. I had to sell everything, proceeding to live out of a backpack with just a laptop and a few essentials. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work and the "digital nomad" movement weren't very well-known — so explaining the decision to confused, worried friends and family wasn't easy. Looking back, I'm happy that I got to see so many new places.It can be hard to stand by your decisions, especially when others don't seem to understand. But sometimes, life's unexpected twists and turns can lead you in exciting directions. During this trip, I learned that travel can be more than just fun: it can broaden your horizons and change the way you view the world.<h2 id="6a5e4e5c-c66f-4c7a-9ba0-128efcbe8105">3. Well, it works differently in Istanbul, Budapest, and Bucharest. Every place I went, I needed to learn a new set of rules for daily life. While locals went about their day effortlessly, I often struggled with basic tasks.Every country I visited offered its own set of beautiful discoveries and painful headaches. Eventually, I realized that no place was perfect — they were all just different.You can adapt to a new country, learn the language, and discover the culture — but you can't expect everything to run smoothly all the time. A <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/solo-travel-tips-how-to-stay-positive-feel-less-lonely-2023-9">positive attitude is the key</a> to having a good experience.<h2 id="8a79fa62-a9ea-4792-8c81-047a39f90bfe">4. After all, integrating into a new country isn't just about filling out forms and learning a language. Even if you're not an extrovert, it can get boring being at home every day. Finding a good café or coworking space can make all the difference.<h2 id="30d1fb02-9084-4643-80b6-8ef25ff19277">5. Keep going, even when things feel impossible</h2>The most important lesson I learned? Stick it out.There were definitely many times when I considered going home. Being a freelancer has also been challenging at times. Users can also comment on others' posts and react to them. A particular post has been getting attention on the platform wherein a Senior Technical Program Manager at Amazon admitted to earning a substantial salary of $370,000 a year (around Rs 3.1 crore) despite putting in minimal effort during his time at the tech giant. The employee, who has been with Amazon for a year and a half, shared his story with a surprising level of transparency. They revealed that after being laid off from <keyword id="19902762" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Google" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Google">Google</keyword>, they joined Amazon with a deliberate intention to do as little work as possible while still drawing a significant paycheck. And execs who had worked at publishers including News Corp. and The Daily Mail took to the stand in the antitrust trial this month to testify that switching from Google's adtech to a rival would have cost them millions of dollars in lost revenue a year.A Google spokesperson declined to comment for this story but pointed Business Insider toward a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/public-policy/ad-tech-trial-key-takeaways/">blog post</a> published Friday. In it, the company argues that its changes over the years have benefited competitors and brought down prices for publishers and advertisers. It contends that the adtech market remains fiercely competitive.<h2 id="5bf85c0b-b21d-4a88-9c61-81ec3350f826">NetworkB — the public-benefit adtech company</h2>Enter "NetworkB," Arete's hypothetically named Google adtech B Corp.Arete suggests Google's parent company, Alphabet, should spin out its entire Network business, which generated $31.4 billion in 2023 (slightly down from the prior year). Some analysts have predicted the unit was <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/analysis-google-ad-tech-trial-114952541.html">likely to shrink further</a> over the coming years anyway, regardless of any antitrust enforcement, as Google prioritizes its own properties versus third-party sites.Arete proposes Google Network become a B Corp with a capped profit margin that it could extract from its clients, known in the industry as a take rate. Right now, adtech industry players retain anywhere between 8% and 42% of the ad dollars that flow through their pipes, according to Arete's estimates.The spinoff would free Google of accusations of self-preferencing and unfair tying within its adtech stack, while also charging lower fees than rival adtech companies, Arete said. That would ultimately mean publishers end up getting paid more, Arete's analysts wrote. And, as a stand-alone business not attached to YouTube, Network B could press further into other areas like connected-TV advertising, they said.Arete calculated that while such a move would mean Google forgoing an estimated $29 billion in Google Network revenues this year, it's only expected to generate around $3.5 billion of EBITDA, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization.The B-Corp solution would be attractive to Alphabet shareholders, who would end up owning the largest adtech intermediary with a potential market capitalization of between $120 billion and $150 billion — a conservative estimate, according to Arete's analysts. Meanwhile, Alphabet itself would become a smaller but higher-margin business with fewer antitrust risks."Google could shed its lowest-margin unit, end its regulatory overhang and raise the value of its O&amp;O inventory, while helping publishers globally," the analysts wrote. O&amp;O refers to owned and operated inventory, such as Google Maps and Gmail, where its proprietary data on its logged-in users are valuable to advertisers.Arete founder Richard Kramer told Business Insider that the antitrust case unearthed some "surely unwelcome disclosure" for Google, but also other adtech players, such as actual financials on adtech operations and how they charged advertisers and publishers."As analysts we were delighted with the trial because it just opened a window onto cost structures that had always been opaque and hidden," Kramer said.

There are so many things a company can do, but your leadership is really what is going to allow you to hit your company objectives. While we are embracing remote work, we're also saying we have to intentionally build in the space and time for team members to get together in person for that collaboration.

Coughlan didn't recognize the dialogue — and eventually realized that she had never recorded it."It was just an AI version of my voice, and it spooked me so badly," Coughlan told Time. "I was like, 'I hate this.'"Coughlan is, by her own profession, extremely online. This year, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-k-pop-songs-this-year-ranked-2023-12">K-pop group Seventeen</a> <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI-esbk8lQY">parodied</a> an <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnSj6Uoiq_U">AI-generated cover</a> of them singing fellow K-pop group Illit's single "Magnetic."Using a public figure's vocal likeness can pay off on social media. There's an entire sub-genre of content featuring the vocal likenesses of United States presidents — mostly Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama — chatting with each other while playing online video games or <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IREgYXOJDe4">Dungeons &amp; Dragons</a>. Those videos rack up millions of views on platforms like TikTok and YouTube, mostly because they feature public figures like Biden saying <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@presidentialdiscord/video/7211104445583674626?is_from_webapp=1&amp;sender_device=pc&amp;web_id=7192678209945847338">unpresidential quips</a> like, "Donald's always mad, that's Donald Grump."When it comes to actual corporate use, some actors are taking a hard line. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-scarlett-johansson-saga-reveals-a-deeper-problem-with-ai-2024-5">Scarlett Johansson</a> said in a statement in May that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/scarlett-johansson-angry-chatgpt-voice-declined-offer-openai-sam-altman-2024-5">OpenAI's new ChatGPT voice, Sky, was "eerily similar" to her own</a>, after turning down an offer to voice act for the technology months prior. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-altman-openai-convince-sora-wont-destroy-hollywood-2024-3">OpenAI </a>said in a statement that Sky wasn't intended to resemble Johansson but paused its use "out of respect" for the actor.
