These five states have also reported the maximum number of patients that were cured and discharged in 24 hours, cumulatively accounting for 58.04 per cent of the total 65,081 people who have recovered during the period across the country. While Maharashtra reported 11,158 recoveries in a day, the corresponding figures for Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka stand at 8,772 and 7,238 respectively. Tamil Nadu registered 6,008 recoveries, while in Uttar Pradesh the figure stood at 4,597. Maharashtra has reported 184 new deaths, Karnataka 113, Tamil Nadu 91, Andhra Pradesh 85 and Uttar Pradesh 63. In total, these five states have registered 536 deaths which is 65.4 per cent of the 819 fatalities reported in a day nationwide. While the recovery rate has risen close to 77 per cent, the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.77 per cent. The number of recoveries is 3.61 times the active cases of the viral infection. "India has more than 20.53 lakh recovered people than the active cases that stand at 7,85,996 on Tuesday," the ministry said and underlined that the number of recovered patients has grown four times between the first week of July and the last week of August. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a cumulative 4,33,24,834 samples have been tested up to August 31, with 10,16,920 of them being tested on Monday. So far, 25 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs have test positive. According to the report, 12 of the total infected MPs are from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whereas 2 from Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YRS) and one each from Shiv Sena, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party RLP. Among those infected are Anant Hegde, Parvesh Verma, and Meenakshi Lekhi. The test results came as the government asked every Member of Parliament to bring a negative report while entering the Parliament. India is the second-worst affected country with COVID-19 and has over 48 lakh cases. In a bid to hold the Parliament session amid COVID-19, the government decided to do away with the Question Hour and all-party meeting before the session. Moreover, MPs were asked to strictly follow social distancing rules. The two houses together have more than 780 members at present. The government said the sessions are being organised with all the necessary health precautions to contain the spread of the diseases. Rajya Sabha began the monsoon session in the morning shift from 9 am till 1 pm, and the Lok Sabha session will happen in the evening shift from 3 pm to 7 pm. Since the outbreak, the Indian government took a variety of measures to contain the spread of the virus. It suspended all existing visas till April 15 except for select categories. Moreover, all incoming travelers who have visited China, Italy, Korea, France, Spain, Greece or Germany in the past are asked to quarantine themselves for at least 14 days. More than a million passengers have been screened at the airports, according to the health ministry. If the cases keep on increasing at the same level, India might face shortage of hospital beds.  The Indian Army set up a coronavirus quarantine facility near Manesar in the National Capital Region on January 31. The facility was created to monitor 300 Indian students who were returning from Wuhan, China. It is one of the first quarantines in the country and has a capacity of 300 beds. There are 60 people working to run the facility and the Army is reportedly spending ₹3.5 lakh a day. Apart from this, there are two more facilities operated by the Air Force near Delhi-NCR.  The Ministry of Defence has set up seven more facilities in India to fight the new coronavirus. The hubs at --- Suratgarh, Jaisalmer, Jhansi, Jodhpur, Deolali, Kolkata and Chennai -- have a cumulative capacity of 5,000 people. These quarantines are specially set up for Indians being airlifted from affected countries. As many as 400 Indians to be brought from Iran this week will be shifted to the Jaisalmer facility.  The Indian Navy set up an isolation camp at its INHS Asvini in Mumbai to treat coronavirus patients. The Indian Navy is also considering opening similar facilities in Kochi and Vizag. Moreover, all naval hospitals have “fever clinics” that admit people with high fever who are yet to be diagnosed. Indian Navy has also set up a quarantine camp at Ghatkopar in Mumbai to monitor 44 Indian citizens who were evacuated from Iran. Isolation wards in Safdarjung Hospital Delhi

 The Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi set up a two-storey isolation facility to treat patients with novel coronavirus. According to media reports, the ward is “no less than a luxury hotel” and the hospital allows access to phones and video streaming services. The Indian government asked 25 other hospitals — both government and private — to set up isolation wards. Hyderabad, Kolkata, Goa and other places with isolation wards

 Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad set up a facility to test the virus after 20 suspected cases were reported. The Telangana government also instructed to set up isolation wards across 13 districts. In Goa, the government set up a 10-bed isolation ward at Community Health Centre, Chicalim, Primary Health Centre, Sankhalim, and TB hospital in Margao. The ID&amp;BG Hospital in Kolkata also set up an isolation ward to treat coronavirus patients. Quarantine facilities at three Delhi hotels — Lemon Tree, Red Fox and IBIS Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that three hotels in Delhi — Lemon Tree, Red Fox and IBIS — will have quarantine facilities. He also said religious, social, cultural and political gatherings comprising more than 50 people will not be allowed in the national capital till March 31 in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak. Days after issuing the order to revoke home isolation of <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword> positive cases which either age above 60 or suffer from comorbidities, the district administration of Southwest (SW) Delhi has now withdrawn it with immediate effect on Sunday. "Order no. ADM/Sw/Misc/2020-21/42829/ dated 21.9.2020 issued by this office is hereby withdrawn with immediate effect and guidelines in this regard to home isolation as issued by DGHS from time to time shall be followed by all medical officers in South West district," the latest order read. Earlier, the district administration of SW Delhi, in its order dated September 21, had stated all sub-divisional magistrates (SDM), medical officers and local police to ensure admission of COVID patients from the area ageing above 60 or having co-morbid condition into COVID Care Centres. "It has been desired that all COVID positive cases which are either above sixty plus of the age or having comorbidities shall be mandatorily shifted to COVID Care Centres," the order had stated. The order was issued by Southwest Delhi Additional District Magistrate Rakesh Dahiya. The order directed all SDMs of the district, medical officer in charge (MOIC) and local police to ensure the compliance of the directions. "Non-compliance of the order shall be viewed seriously," it had cautioned. India's <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword> tally of cases went past 69 lakh with 70,496 infections being reported in a day, while active cases of infection fell below 9 lakh after a month, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. The total coronavirus cases mounted to 69,06,151. The death toll climbed to 1,06,490 with 964 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed. The total recoveries have surged to 59,06,069 pushing the recovery rate to 85.52 per cent, while there are 8,93,592 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 12.94 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated. The COVID-19 case fatality rate due to the coronavirus infection was recorded at 1.54 per cent. India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past 50 lakh on September 16 and crossed 60 lakh on September 28. According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 8,46,34,680 samples have been tested up to October 8 with 11,68,705 samples being tested on Thursday. The 964 new fatalities include 358 from Maharashtra, 101 from Karnataka, 68 Tamil Nadu, 63 from West Bengal, 45 from Uttar Pradesh, 42 Andhra Pradesh and 37 from Delhi. A total of 1,06,490 deaths have been reported so far in the country includes 39,430 from Maharashtra followed by 10,052 from Tamil Nadu, 9,675 from Karnataka, 6,245 from Uttar Pradesh, 6,128 from Andhra Pradesh, 5,653 from Delhi, 5,439 from West Bengal, 3,741 from Punjab and 3,538 from Gujarat. The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities. "Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research," the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
