The campaign is a fundraiser for Save the Children and No Kid Hungry and features celebrities from across the globe reading children's books on social media.The "Leila" actor uploaded a video on Instagram where she read the story "Mulla Naseeruddin feeds his Coat"."We all know the importance of health, hygiene and safety especially in today's circumstances. But, we can all #SlowtheCurve by thinking beyond our immediate circle and for the care of others especially children who live on the fringes of society without shelter and are at risk," Huma said in a statement."You can help them now by supporting Save the Children who will continue to reach children at risk of disease and infection through their programmes," she added. New Delhi, Mar 27 () Swedish furniture giant IKEA on Friday announced a grant of 26 million euro to protect the health of communities, its co-workers, suppliers and consumers impacted by the spread of coronavirus. In addition, IKEA Foundation, the firm's philanthropic arm, is announcing a funding commitment to support the emergency response, said a statement. As part of this, IKEA India, which operates a store in Hyderabad, has in coordination with government authorities set up a quarantine centre at a sports hostel at Gachibowli in the city, with 200 beds. "These are extraordinary times and our absolute priority is ensuring the health and safety of co-workers, customers, suppliers and communities. We are still adjusting to this new reality but are doing all we can to ensure business continuity for the future and continue to make people's lives at home better," said IKEA India CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer Peter Betzel. Ingka Group, IKEA's strategic partner, said "We will take an initial step of supporting emergency relief with 26 million euro of in-kind donations, allowing its 30 countries in which it has operations, to take more immediate action in their local communities." This will focus on providing necessities such as beds, food and toys to hospitals, medical centres and shelters, it added. "Our focus is now on accelerating the actions we are taking to help the communities most affected and supporting many people and our partners across the world," said Ingka Group CEO Jesper Brodin. Coronavirus impact: IKEA grants 26 million euro to protect co-workers, supplier, customers

Mumbai, Mar 26 () Diversified Bajaj Group on Thursday said it has pledged Rs 100 crore towards the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.Working with the government and group's network of over 200 NGO partners, it will ensure these resources reach those who need the most, Bajaj Group said in a release."In the ongoing fight against coronavirus, we all need to come forward in ways more than ever before, to ensure that all citizens of our country have access to healthcare and other necessities of life. Today we pledge Rs 100 crore to the fight against Covid-19," Bajaj Group head Rahul Bajaj said. The Rs 100-crore fund will be utilised in supporting upgradation of key healthcare infrastructure required to tackle Covid-19 in Pune, which is the company's base, extending immediate support to the most affected- daily wage workers, the homeless and street children and in rural care and livelihood aid, he said. The aid will support the government and identified private sector hospitals to upgrade ICUs, procure additional equipment and consumables including ventilators and personal protection equipment, enhance testing, and set up isolation units. These interventions will support communities in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and rural areas of Pune. "We are also working with organisations in multiple geographies to extend immediate support to the most-affected daily wage workers, the homeless and street children. Bajaj group will support initiatives on food supply, shelter and access to sanitation and healthcare," Bajaj stated. Stating that in the last few weeks, there has been a reverse migration to the villages, he said, "We are thus committing a significant portion of our support towards an economic aid programme in rural areas which includes a direct survival grant, followed by a livelihood intervention using a revolving fund model."The family pays back the loan from the earnings of the livelihood intervention- leading to 80 per cent of funds provided to the family being returned to a community fund for further deployment to others in need within the community, Bajaj added. "We will also work with authorities and partners towards creating awareness on Covid-19 and strengthening health infrastructure in the rural areas, including supporting and strengthening diagnostic centres and isolation facilities," he said. India reports the largest coronavirus outbreak in Asia as millions of migrant workers travel from packed cities to rural villages

Mumbai, Jul 10 () The Indian rupee weakened by 21 paise to close at 75.20 against the US dollar on Friday, tracking lower equities as investors seemed moving away from riskier assets amid worries over mounting COVID-19 cases. Further, the stronger US dollar against key rival currencies also put pressure on the domestic unit. The dollar index, which measures the American currency's strength against a basket of major currencies, was at 96.7910, up 0.09 per cent. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened weaker at 75.16 a dollar against the previous day's close of 74.99. During the session, it swung between a high of 75.12 and low of 75.33 before settling at 75.20, showing a loss of 21 paise. On a weekly basis, the rupee logged a loss of 54 paise. "The USD/INR spot respected the crucial support of 74.50 and bounced towards 75.30 zone mainly on coronavirus concerns and RBI intervention," Rahul Gupta, Head of Research- Currency, Emkay Global Financial Services, said. Also, the fear that renewed lockdown may derail economic recovery all over the world led traders seek shelter of gold, which is a safe-haven asset, he added. Global crude oil benchmark Brent Futures fell 1.79 per cent to USD 41.59 per barrel. On the equity market front, the BSE benchmark Sensex was trading lower by 193 points at 36,544.62, while the NSE Nifty was down 57.15 points at 10,756.30 in late afternoon deals. Rupee skids 21 paise to end at 75.20 against US dollar

By Bijay Kumar SinghNew Delhi, Mar 30 () The government could consider suggestions for direct transfer of cash to unemployed workers, including migrant workers, to compensate them for loss of livelihood in the wake of the 21-day lockdown to curb spreading of coronavirus infections, Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said on Monday. Following the nationwide lockdown, which will be in place till April 14, thousands of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other states have started returning back to their home states from various cities, including Delhi and Mumbai. Kumar said the Centre and state governments have made big arrangements for migrant workers in different parts of the country where their sustenance is taken care of. The central government has also received suggestions for direct cash transfer to unemployed workers, he said. "As far as the loss of cash income (of migrant workers due to the countrywide lockdown) is concerned, I think the government may consider at some stage giving them cash through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme to compensate them for loss of employment on account of the 21-day lockdown," Kumar told in an interview. The option of direct cash transfer might be considered for unemployed workers, including migrant workers, he noted. Even though most migrant workers have mobile phones and bank accounts, Kumar said it would still be difficult to transfer cash to them because they are in an unorganised segment. "Nonetheless, some ways can be found through industry organisations, through employer organisations to identify them and compensate them to some extent for loss of their cash incomes," Kumar said. According to him, there are two negative impacts due to the lockdown on migrant workers. "One is sustenance, which means food and shelter, and second is the loss of cash income. The first is already being taken care of and the second, I think, as and when need arises will be taken care of by the Centre and state governments working together," he said. Last week, the government announced a Rs 1.7 lakh crore stimulus package that includes free foodgrains and cooking gas to poor people for three months as well as cash doles to women and poor senior citizens to alleviate the financial impact due to the lockdown.
