<ul><li>An ayurvedic drug called ZingiVir-H has been approved for conducting clinical trials on coronavirus patients in India by the Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI). </li><li>The sample size of the study is 112 patients with 15 Covid-19 positive patients already enrolled. </li><li>Hareendran Nair, the founder of the Pankajaksthuri Herbal Research Foundation in Kerala where the drug was developed, believes the results of trials will be available by the end of May. </li></ul>An ayurvedic drug in India called ZingiVir-H has gotten the rubber stamp to conduct clinical trials on adults who have tested positive for coronavirus in India. Currently, it’s only being tested at the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) with a sample size of 112 patients with 15 people already enrolled — but it is open to recruitment. According to Hareendran Nair, the founder of the Pankajaksthuri Herbal Research Foundation in Kerala where the drug was developed, other medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Delhi have also been approached. Testing ZingiVir-H as a drug for coronavirus The Clinical Trial Registry of India (<a href="http://ctri.nic.in/Clinicaltrials/showallp.php?mid1=43168&amp;EncHid=&amp;userName=Zingivir">CTRI</a>) has given the nod for a randomised controlled single-blind trial to find out if ZingiVir-H is safe and effective as a way to boost immunity in Covid-19 patients. The clinical trials will measure a coronavirus patients’ improvement as per a 7-point ordinal scale to determine the odds ratio — the odds for improvement. On the day that a patient enters the trial will be the baseline, followed by recording time points on Day 7 and Day 15. “We are expecting the results by the end of May. I am not sure about the result. An Indian ayurvedic drug is being tried on coronavirus patients in Mysore

<ul><li>The study, published on Thursday in the Journal of Pediatrics, found that the virus and antibodies can coexist in young patients.</li><li>This study used a retrospective analysis of 6,369 children tested for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">Covid-19</keyword>, and 215 patients who underwent antibody testing at Children's National between March 13, 2020, and June 21, 2020. </li><li>The researchers found patients from six to 15 years old took a longer time to clear the virus (median of 32 days) compared to patients 16 through 22 years old (median of 18 days). </li></ul>In a crucial study, the researchers have found that children can be infected with the novel <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> (Covid-19), but have antibodies against the disease in their blood at the same time. The study, published on Thursday in the Journal of Pediatrics, found that the virus and antibodies can coexist in young patients. "With most viruses, when you start to detect antibodies, you won't detect the virus anymore. But with Covid-19, we're seeing both," said study lead author Burak Bahar from the Children's National Hospital in the US. "This means children still have the potential to transmit the virus even if antibodies are detected," Bahar added. This study used a retrospective analysis of 6,369 children tested for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, and 215 patients who underwent antibody testing at Children's National between March 13, 2020, and June 21, 2020. Out of the 215 patients, 33 had co-testing for both the virus and antibodies during their disease course. Nine of the 33 showed the presence of antibodies in their blood while also later testing positive for the virus. The study also assessed the timing of viral clearance and immunologic response. It found the median time from viral positivity to negativity when the virus can no longer be detected, was 25 days. The researchers found patients from six to 15 years old took a longer time to clear the virus (median of 32 days) compared to patients 16 through 22 years old (median of 18 days). Females in the 6-15 age group also took longer to clear the virus than males (median of 44 days for females compared to a median of 25.5 days for males). The median time to seropositivity, or the presence of antibodies in the blood, was 18 days, while the median time to reach adequate levels of neutralizing antibodies was 36 days. According to the team, neutralizing antibodies are important in potentially protecting a person from re-infection of the same virus. Although there is emerging data regarding this timing in adults with Covid-19, there is far less data when it comes to the pediatric population, the study said. "The takeaway here is that we can't let our guard down just because a child has antibodies or is no longer showing symptom. The continued role of good hygiene and social distancing remains critical," the study authors wrote. Recently, a study, published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics, revealed that children can shed Covid-19 virus even if they never develop symptoms or for long after symptoms have cleared. "The survey has revealed that around 40 per cent of the recovered patients have lost antibodies, and antibodies disappear from several people in the long run after recovery," Solanki said. This suggests that people who have lost antibodies can contract COVID-19 again in the future, he said. "Till a vaccine is made available in the market, we must take precautionary measures such as social distancing and wearing masks," Solanki said. Voicing a similar concern, Dr Sheth said, "Absence of antibodies in 40 per cent of recovered persons suggests that they can get reinfected. A detailed study is required to analyse this phenomenon." Epidemic expert Dr R K Patel called for a detailed research into the results of the civic survey. "Coronavirus is a new subject for everyone. We still do not know how the virus behaves. It's a matter of research why antibodies disappear from recovered patients," said Dr Patel, director of U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre. The best defence against the viral infection is to practise social distancing and wear masks, Dr said. According to health experts, confirmed cases of reinfections have been reported in foreign countries. Ahmedabad district has so far recorded 32,013 COVID-19 cases and 1,741 deaths. A Paytm employee, who was among the first 30 coronavirus cases in India, has recovered and was discharged from hospital after his last two results came negative, the digital payment company said on Friday. "Coronavirus affected employee from Paytm Gurgaon office has been discharged from hospital today evening and is on his way back home. He is completely fit and has had his last two results as negative. He has been prescribed self isolation for next 14 days and is required to stay at home," Paytm said in a tweet. The Paytm employee, who tested positive on March 5, had come in touch with 91 people in Gurgaon. "His relative (who was diagnosed contaminated through him within a week) as well has recovered and been discharged today and recommended self isolation for 14 days," Paytm said. Paytm has allowed all employees to work from home till March 31.
