Every day, there are hundreds of WhatsApp forwards that share do’s and don’ts, each promising to prevent the virus infection. With fear on their mind, people are forwarding these messages to friends and family - spreading information. But an Indian startup has decided to take matters into its hands. So, not only is prevention the need of the hour, but also education and awareness about the situation,” Haptik said in a statement. With the chatbot, Haptik aims to shatter myths and suggests basic hygiene practices around the virus. For the chatbot, the referral point is the World Health Organization (WHO). “Based on data available on the WHO website, the bot is trained to answer frequently asked questions on the new coronavirus. Some of these include information on following basic hygiene standards, preventive measures, common symptoms and myths amongst others. Lucknow, Jul 8 () The number of coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh crossed the 30,000-mark on Wednesday as 1,188 fresh cases were reported in the state, with 18 new deaths in the last 24 hours. Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said 31,156 people have tested positive for the disease in the state, he said. So far, 845 fatalities have been reported, with 18 deaths in the last 24 hours, he said, adding that the total number of active cases now stand at 9,980, while 20,331 people have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals. Testing for COVID-19 touched a new benchmark on Tuesday as 34,085 samples were tested in a single day. So far, over 10 lakh samples have been tested in UP, he said. Referring to the ongoing door-to door screening in all divisions of the state, Prasad said so far the teams involved in this task have visited over 84.12 lakh houses and talked to over 4.29 crore people. These surveillance teams are noting down details of COVID-19 symptoms, besides preparing a list of those with co-morbidities. The 10-day campaign began in the Meerut division on July 2 and other divisions of the state on July 5, he said. Prasad said that the COVID helpdesks set up in the state have proved to be very useful for identifying people with symptoms. COVID-19: PM Modi urges people to download Arogya Setu app

(Eds: Adds inputs) New Delhi, Jun 29 () North Delhi Mayor Jai Prakash on Monday visited the civic-run Hindu Rao Hospital and said the number of beds at the recently-converted dedicated COVID-19 facility will be increased to 200 in a phased manner. Initially, it is having 50 beds and gradually the facility will be expanded, he said. A senior official of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) which runs the hospital, the largest civic body-run facility here, said Prakash inspected the hospital to check the facilities available for novel coronavirus patients. He also inspected the helpdesk facility, COVID-19 sampling centre and coronavirus wards at the hospital. The senior official said, the COVID-19 facility has been started with 45 beds, and five ICU beds, besides 84 isolation beds. More are planned to be added as and when logistics and financial requirements are met, the official said. During the inspection, Leader of House in NDMC Yogesh Verma, Standing Committee member Chhail Bihari Goswami, NDMC Additional Commissioner Rashmi Singh, Medical Superintendent Anu Kapoor and other officials were also present. Prakash said the Hindu Rao Hospital has started functioning as a COVID-19 dedicated hospital. He said a help desk has been created in the hospital for the convenience of patients so that all information be available at one place. The mayor said that initially 50 bed facility is available for COVID-19 patients, which will be increased to 200 beds in a phased manner. Prakash interacted with doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of the hospital and said, "we all have to work together only then we can defeat coronavirus". The hospital was declared a dedicated COVID-19 facility on June 14. Officials of the NDMC said the hospital's strength is 980 beds. "Out of these, 37 are unavailable due to a building being declared dangerous. Also, 111 of these are complement beds," the official had earlier said. On Monday, when asked about the delay in converting the entire hospital into a dedicated facility, a senior official said, "When we mention a 'bed', it implies other services also like specialist doctors of that field, staff nurses, monitors, oxygen supply points among others." WhatsApp to introduce disappearing messages and a fact checking option

Lucknow, Jul 7 () Uttar Pradesh recorded its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with 1,332 new infections pushing the state's tally to 29,968 on Tuesday, officials said. So far, 827 fatalities have been reported in the state, with 18 deaths in the last 24 hours, Principal Secretary for Health Amit Mohan Prasad said. The total number of active cases stand at 9,514, he said. Prasad said as many as 1,332 fresh cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours. He said 19,627 people have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals. Testing for COVID-19 touched a new benchmark on Monday with 30,329 samples being tested in a single day. So far, over 9.22 lakh samples have been tested, he said. Stressing on the need to take precautions against the novel coronavirus, Prasad said that the government has taken a serious note of people moving about without masks in public places. To check this, the fine on people caught not using masks is set to be increased from Rs 200 to Rs 500. A notification in this regard will be issued in two to three days, he said. "Increase in number of cases has been seen after 'Unlock', specially in workplaces and other such places where people sit in close proximity. There is a need to take utmost care. People seem to think that since 'Unlock' has started, the danger is over, which is wrong," Prasad said. So far, 33,571 COVID helpdesks have been set up by different departments at entry point of offices and industrial units, and till now, over 6,000 cases, having some symptoms, have been detected with their help, he said. Referring to the door-to-door campaign launched in the state's Meerut division from July 2 and in other divisions from July 5, Prasad said surveillance teams are noting down details of COVID-19 symptoms, besides preparing a list of those with co-morbidity. The Kalaburagi man was the district's third COVID-19 casualty. The district had also reported the country's first COVID-19 fatality. The Bengaluru man was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases on Sunday and died on Monday. He had tested positive for COVID-19.
