In view of the recent spike in <keyword id="8644408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coronavirus-cases">coronavirus cases</keyword>, the <keyword id="6370685" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-government">Gujarat government</keyword> has decided to extend the night curfew in four major cities of the state, including <keyword id="5065" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ahmedabad">Ahmedabad</keyword>, by another 15 days. The ongoing night curfew in Ahmedabad, <keyword id="6359081" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Surat">Surat</keyword>, <keyword id="6356811" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vadodara">Vadodara</keyword> and <keyword id="6361800" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajkot">Rajkot</keyword>, was to end on February 28. An <keyword id="296448" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="official-statement">official statement</keyword> issued on Friday night said, the government decided to extend the night curfew by another 15 days in view of the recent rise in coronavirus cases in four municipal corporations. This is the fifth extension of the night curfew, which first came into force in November last year after a spurt in COVID-19 cases in these cities post-Diwali. The ongoing night curfew starts at midnight and ends at 6 am. Although the statement about the extended night curfew does not mention the time, the existing schedule is likely to continue. In view of increasing COVID-19 cases, the government has decided to expedite the <keyword id="1002532" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="vaccination-drive">vaccination drive</keyword>, the statement said. The statement was issued followinga meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Friday evening to review the coronavirus situation in <keyword id="6354766" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword>. In the first phase of COVID-19 vaccination, out of the total 4.82 lakh health care workers, more than 4.07 lakh (or 84 percent) have been administered the first dose of the vaccine, the statement said. Also, out of the total 5.41 lakh frontline workers, 4. 14 lakh (or 77 percent) have been covered in the drive so far. The second dose of COVID-19 vaccine has been given to 1.23 lakh healthcare workers till now, it said. The health department claimed that Gujarat ranks first in the country in terms of vaccination per million population. The state has so far received 15.70 lakh doses of Covishield, and 4.83 lakh Covaxin. The vaccination drive for senior citizens and those with co-morbidities will begin from March 1 as per the Centre's instructions, it said. Gujarat has so far reported 2,69,031 COVID-19 cases, out of which 2,62,487 patients have recovered. On Friday, it reported 460 new cases. Night curfew in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodra and Rajkot to get extend by 15 days

There was a slight dip in cases on Tuesday at 40,715. Prior to this, the country registered an increase in cases for 12 consecutive days. Punjab: Night curfew from December 1 As the coronavirus cases surged in Punjab, the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has imposed night curfew in all towns and cities from 10 pm to 5 am, starting December 1. The government has also doubled the fine for people flouting COVID-19 rules effective from December 1. The fine for not wearing masks and not following social distancing norms has been hiked from ₹500 to ₹1,000. Gujarat: After Ahmedabad, night curfew in Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot The police commissioner of Ahmedabad, Sanjay Shrivastav, has decided to extend the night curfew in the city till December 11 in view of the prevailing coronavirus situation. The Gujarat government had imposed a night curfew in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot from Saturday 9:00 pm due to a massive rise in the number of coronavirus cases. After the Diwali festivities, there has been a significant rise in the number of COVID cases in Gujarat, especially in the financial capital of the state, Ahmedabad. Many people were seen roaming the markets without adhering the standard precautions. The state authorities had earlier announced the curfew till December 7. “People must remain indoors during this period. People must not stand at public roads, streets or public places or move around on foot or in vehicles during this period," the order said. Himachal Pradesh: Night curfew from 8 pm to 6 am Himachal Pradesh is the latest state to impose night curfew from 8 pm to 6 am in 4 districts — Shimla, Kangra, Mandi and Kullu. The government has ordered schools and colleges to be closed until December 31. The government has also increased the fine for not wearing masks from ₹500 to ₹1,000. Madhya Pradesh: Night curfew in five district The Madhya Pradesh Government has also ordered night curfew in five districts due to rising COVID-19 cases. They have already come into effect in Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Vidisha, and Ratlam districts from Saturday and will be effective from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am every day. Maharashtra: Covid negative report mandatory to enter Maharashtra As Covid-19 cases are on the upswing in several parts of the country, Maharashtra on Monday imposed conditions for all travellers arriving in the state from Gujarat, Goa, Rajasthan and Delhi, starting from Wednesday (November 25). The state has made it compulsory for a RT-PCR negative test report for all people arriving by air, road or rail from these four states. In a notification, the state has said that for people who land here by flights, the RT-PCR test must have been done within 72 hours of their scheduled arrival at the Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad airports. For those entering the state by roads, the administrations in the state's border districts will make arrangements for checking symptoms, body temperature and conducting tests before they are permitted onward travel in Maharashtra. But we have seen earlier that markets and factories were closed and how people faced difficulty. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand issue fresh COVID-19 guidelines, TN extends lockdown — these are the states reimposing curfews and restrictions

The government had on November 11 decided to reopen schools, colleges and universities from November 23 after holding discussions with education and health officials. The educational institutions were directed to continue studies on their respective premises by strictly following Standard Operating Protocol on COVID-19 issued by the central government. "In the first stage, in colleges and universities, classes for postgraduate, medical and paramedical students will resume. Moreover, classes of only final-year undergraduate students will resume. In engineering courses also, final-year students will be asked to come to attend classes. Similarly, ITIs and polytechnics will also be reopened. Gujarat postpones reopening of schools after significant rise in COVID-19 cases

Looking at the rising number of corona cases he also announced that 200 ventilators will be provided to the city within two days. The Gujarat Chief Minister said, "We have assessed the situation here and we are taking steps to curb the virus outbreak. The stemcell hospital will be converted into a dedicated Covid-19 hospital shortly. The kidney hospital in the city too will be converted into a dedicated Covid-19 hospital within a month's time. One hundred crore rupees have been allocated for the purpose. We have already appointed 6 to 7 agencies to implement it." Gujarat reverses its decision to hold university exams Following directives from the Union government, the Gujarat government on Wednesday reversed its earlier decision to hold final year examinations of all universities and colleges in Gujarat. The state government has now kept on hold or postponed examinations of universities and colleges. Addressing the media, Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said: "The Union Education Secretary has issued guidelines for all the states to put on hold all the examinations of universities, looking at the prevailing situation of Covid-19." Curbs on educational activities to continue in Guj The Gujarat government on June 30 issued a notification regarding the second phase of unlocking. While some more relaxations have been granted, the state will continue with many of the restrictions which were in place during Unlock 1.0, including curbs on educational activities. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that shops in Gujarat will be allowed to function till 8 p.m., while hotels and restaurants will be allowed to operate till 9 p.m. According to the notification, night curfew will be in place from 10pm till 5am Street food banned in Surat containment clusters Surat Municipal Commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani has issued a notification banning all street food vending in the city's containment clusters, including Varachha, Sarthana and Katargam areas. Corona tests in private labs in Gujarat to cost only ₹2,500 After receiving many proposals and examining rates in other states, the Gujarat government on Thursday capped the price of corona test in private labs to ₹2,500, against the ₹4,500 allowed earlier. The Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) had written to the state government to lower the prices of corona tests which had been fixed by the Gujarat government at ₹4,500. In the letter it has said that in other states like Delhi, Rajasthan, Telangana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, the charges were around ₹2,200-₹2,800, and had recommended the state government fix the price of the test at ₹2,000. Gujarat HC stays Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad Citing the Supreme Court's stay on Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra in Puri in Odisha amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the Gujarat High Court on Saturday stayed the Rath Yatra procession in Ahmedabad city scheduled for June 11. Gujarat coronavirus cases rise to 52,563, – 2,252 dead and 38,059 recovered

Ahmedabad, Jun 19 () Gujarat reported 540 new coronavirus positive cases on Friday, taking the total to 26,198, the health department said. With 27 COVID-19 patients dying, death toll due to the pandemic rose to 1,619, it said. On the other hand, 340 patients recovered during the day, taking the number of patients who were discharged from hospital to 18,167. The state has now 6,412 active cases, with 67 patients put on ventilators. Principal Health Secretary Dr. Pradeep Vyas issued a notice against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ordering all the municipal corporations to reconcile data by June 15. The notice read, “any data mismatch brought to notice subsequently would be viewed very seriously,” Previously, West Bengal and New Delhi had revised their death number after they found discrepancies in their official bulletin. The number of deaths in New Delhi rose from less than 100 to 1400. Whereas, West Bengal added 72 deaths. Maharashtra under-reported as many as 1,300 deaths due to COVID-19

Ahmedabad, Jun 9 () Gujarat reported 470 new coronavirus patients on Tuesday, 331 of them in Ahmedabad, taking the number of cases in the state to 21,044, the health department said. With 33 COVID-19 patients dying on Tuesday, the death toll rose to 1,313, it said. Ahmedabad district reported 331 new cases while Surat and Vadodara reported 62 and 32 new cases, respectively. The total number of cases in Ahmedabad is now 14,962, while that in Surat and Vadodara is 2,207 and 1,360. On the other hand, 409 patients were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recovered patients to 14,373. Of 33 COVID-19 deaths reported on Tuesday, 27 occurred in Ahmedabad, two in Surat and one each in Mehsana, Aravalli, Amreli and Panchmahal. There are now 5,358 active cases in the state. 64 patients are on ventilator, the department said. Ahmedabad, Jun 3 () The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 18,117 with 485 new patients being detected on Wednesday, 290 in Ahmedabad alone, while the death toll rose to 1,122 with 30 patients dying, the health department said. 318 coronavirus patients also recovered on Wednesday, taking the total number of patients discharged so far in the state to 12,212. Of these, 205 patients recovered in Ahmedabad alone. The state's current recovery rate is 67.4 per cent, the health department said. There are at present 4,783 active cases in Gujarat, with 64 patients on ventilator, it said. Ahmedabad reported 290 new cases Wednesday, taking the total in the city to 13,063. Also, the district reported 22 COVID-19-related deaths, taking the total death figure in the district to 910. In Surat, number of COVID-19 cases rose to 1,793 with 77 new cases. In Vadodara, it went up to 1,140 with 34 more patients testingpositive on Wednesday. Gandhinagar reported 39 new cases and Banaskantha ten. A total of 19 districts reported new cases on Wednesday. Apart from 22 deaths reported in Ahmedabad, Vadodara reported death of three patients, Surat two and Bhavnagar, Kutch and Navsari one each, taking the total death toll to 1,122. Ahmedabad, May 28 () The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 15,572 on Thursday after 367 new patients were found since previous evening, 247 of them in Ahmedabad district alone, a Health Department release said. During the same period, 22 patients succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll due to the pandemic in the state to 960, said the statement. 454 coronavirus patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals, taking the total of recovered patients in Gujarat to 8,001. 381 patients were discharged in Ahmedabad district alone, followed by 21 in Surat and 12 in Kutch. Besides Ahmedabad, other districts where significant number of cases were reported on Thursday are Surat (44), Vadodara (33), Sabarkantha (8) and Kutch and Rajkot (seven each). 16 coronavirus patients died at hospitals in Ahmedabad, three in Vadodara and one each in Kutch, Patan and Surendranagar districts. Out of the total 15,572 cases recorded in Gujarat so far, as many as 11,344 were reported in Ahmedabad district alone, followed by 1,465 in Surat and 947 in Vadodara. The majority of deaths were also reported in these three districts: 780 patients have died so far in Ahmedabad, 65 have died in Surat and 39 in Vadodara. Ahmedabad, May 23 () The count of coronavirus positive cases in Gujarat rose to 13,669 after 396 new patients were detected on Saturday, while death toll increased to 829 with 27 more deaths, the state health department said. 289 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking total number of recovered patients to 6,169. Out of 27 COVID-19 patients who died on Saturday, 17 suffered from comorbidities, offiicials said. Ahmedabad, May 20 () The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 12,539 with 398 new patients detected on Wednesday, senior health official said. The death toll due to the pandemic in the state increased to 749 with 30 more patients succumbing, she added. 176 COVID-19 patients were discharged on Wednesday, taking the total number of recovered patients in the state to 5,219 at a recovery rate of 41.62 per cent, said Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi. Of 6,571 active cases, 47 patients are critical and are on ventilator, she said. Ahmedabad, May 16 () The number of COVID-19 cases in Gujarat crossed the 10,000-mark on Saturday, with 1,057 new patients being found positive for coronavirus including 709"super spreaders" in Ahmedabad city, a Health official said. The total cases now stands at 10,989 while the number of fatalities rose to 625 with 19 people succumbing to the viral infection, the official said. "Ten of the 19 deceased were suffering from comorbidities," said Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi. "Apart from 348 new cases reported on Saturday, the state health department has added a tally of 709 'superspreaders'," Ravi said explaining the total number of new cases. A total of 273 patients were discharged, taking the tally of the recovered patients to 4,308, Ravi added.
