On May 5, the death toll among Covid-19 cases rose to 68 in the state, up by fresh seven cases in the last 24 hours, State Home Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay told IANS. However, BJP's Kailash Vijayvargiya also said that there are 'discrepancies and infirmities in the health bulletin dated May 4 released by the government of West Bengal.' After this, the cases have been reported and there is a sudden spike in deaths reported in the past 24 hours," said Lav Agarwa, Joint Secretary of the Health Ministry. There are as many as 516 containment zones in West Bengal. Of this, 318 are located in Kolkata alone. "The new cases reported in the last 24 hours are 3,900 and new deaths are 195. It is the highest number so far," Agarwal added.
