Two ministers who were on the call told Ravid that Netanyahu claimed that his national security adviser, Meir Ben-Shabbat, had initially shown him the video. Netanyahu asked Ben-Shabbat to send the clip to other curious Cabinet members. According to the report, the video had been shared by Iranians on social media last week, though Netanyahu's advisers did not check its authenticity before passing it along. By Aditi Khanna London, Apr 20 () Downing Street has dismissed as "falsehoods and errors" a UK media report which alleged the government's coronavirus response was slow and that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson missed emergency meetings on the pandemic in the early stages of the outbreak that has killed over 16,000 people in the country.A report in 'The Sunday Times' had claimed that the UK government did not react fast enough as the death toll from Covid-19 started mounting in Wuhan province of China, the epicentre of the pandemic."This article contains a series of falsehoods and errors and actively misrepresents the enormous amount of work which was going on in government at the earliest stages of the coronavirus outbreak," a UK government spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday evening."This is an unprecedented global pandemic and we have taken the right steps at the right time to combat it, guided at all times by the best scientific advice… The Prime Minister has been at the helm of the response to this, providing leadership during this hugely challenging period for the whole nation," the spokesperson said.'The Sunday Times' report had claimed that Johnson missed five emergency Cabinet Office Briefing Room A (COBRA) meetings at the very start of the coronavirus outbreak in the UK, a claim previously branded as "grotesque" by Cabinet ministers."It is entirely normal and proper for COBRA to be chaired by the relevant secretary of state," the government spokesperson stressed later.Meanwhile, Boris Johnson continues his convalescence following his Covid-19 related hospitalisation at the UK prime ministerial country retreat Chequers but remains in regular contact with Cabinet ministers, including commissioning advice on the lockdown.Ministers have, however, been told by Downing Street civil servants that he is not expected to return to Number 10 this week, as he abides by the advice of doctors to rest and recover. However, Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, will deputise for him at an emergency UK government meeting on the coronavirus on Monday morning.Raab has served in Johnson's government since he became prime minister in July 2019 and holds the honorary title of First Secretary of State."It is this secondary position which means that he will deputise for the prime minister in the event of serious illness and could ultimately replace him.So who is Dominic Raab and could he end up as Britain's next prime minister?<h2>A Brexit hardliner who campaigned to leave the EU</h2>Raab is a vocal Brexiteer and a close ally of the prime minister. Both men supported Vote Leave, the official Brexit campaign, before the referendum in 2016.Raab was first elected to parliament in 2010 having previously trained as a solicitor.He fulfilled some junior ministerial roles in Theresa May's government before being promoted to Cabinet as Brexit secretary in July 2018.However, Raab didn't last long in the job, only holding the role for a few months before resigning in protest over what he saw as May's insufficiently hardline Brexit policy. "I cannot reconcile the terms of the proposed deal with the promises we made to the country in our manifesto at the last election," Raab <a href="https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/uk/dominic-raab-full-text-of-brexit-secretary-s-resignation-letter-1.3698633">wrote to May</a>. "This is, at its heart, a matter of public trust."In resigning he joined Johnson, who had also resigned from May's Cabinet for the House of Commons backbenches just months earlier.<h2>A controversial figure who has enemies inside government</h2>The news that Dominic Raab would deputise for Johnson should he fall ill, which was <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-update-cabinet-squabble-over-who-is-to-be-boris-johnsons-designated-survivor-656wk9xpd">confirmed by aides</a>, was received like "a cup of cold sick" by his cabinet rivals, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/25/coronavirus-stress-test-cabinet-rishi-sunak">according to Katy Balls</a>, the Spectator magazine's deputy political editor.Some colleagues believe he lacks emotional intelligence and fear he would struggle to rise to the occasion should he be forced to step into Johnson's shoes, Balls wrote.Raab has occasionally caused controversy for his hardline views. In 2011 he claimed that "feminists are now amongst the most obnoxious bigots" in the UK.
