<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12602495" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="feral-hogs" source="Orion">Feral hogs</keyword> are descending on Corona, <keyword id="11892889" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="california" source="Orion">California</keyword>, and are tearing up property across the city. </li><li>The city's vice mayor recommends erecting a fence on your property or setting traps to capture the pigs. </li></ul><p>Feral hogs have long overwhelmed the city of Corona, California. The city's vice mayor thinks they have been around since as early as the 1930s. </p><p>"As long as I can remember pigs have always been an issue," Corona Vice Mayor Wes Speake told Insider. </p><p>The feral hog population in the city typically depends on the drought status at any given time. Periods of drought drive the 300-to-400-pound pigs into the urban wildlife interface, or where the wild area comes into contact with the city limits. </p><p>Speake attributes the current influx to a project commissioned by the Army Corps of Engineers that aims to raise water levels in dams that sit at the city's limits. </p><p>The construction is taking out the pigs' habitat and limiting what they can eat. </p><p>In response, they come in hoards to Corona where they dig up roots and eat citizens' grass and flowers. </p><div type="image" title="Damage from feral hogs" height="720" width="960" msid="87899672" hostid="261"></div><p>Though there have been no attacked as of late according to the California Fish and Wildlife Department, Speake noted that the hogs are known to be aggressive, especially if they are provoked. </p><p>"Don't go pet them," Speake said. "They are not cute cuddly things you see on TV." </p><p>Instead, he encourages Corona citizens to call the Corona Police Department or city officials with feral hog sightings so they can be made aware of the issue and can warn others in the area. </p><p>He also suggested erecting a fence around your property if the pigs frequent your home. </p><p>"There is food in other places," Speake explained, "so you can erect a fence to prevent them from going onto property so they will go on to easier pickings." </p><p>Trapping is another option both for individuals and for the city, but a single trap can run anywhere from $6,000 to $7,000. </p><p>Trapping becomes an issue because of how quickly this species is known to reproduce, even though each trap can capture around five pigs. </p><p>"Trapping is an option, however, it is like using your fingers to pick up water, you're going to get a little bit but leave a lot behind," Speake said. </p><p>"We need a regional approach since they reproduce so quickly," he added. </p><p>Speake is also working on a citizen education program that explains how to coexist with the feral hogs and what to do if they become an issue in your area. </p><p>"People have to get used to letting the city know when it is happening and where it is an issue," Speake said. </p><p>While some have gotten better about calling in sightings, Speake believes the number of reported hogs is still inconsistent with the number in the city. </p><p>He hopes when he becomes mayor on December 1, the city will vote on his idea to place traps in known problem areas to prevent the hogs from tearing apart property. </p>

<p>Airlines like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jetblue-passengers-stranded-in-carribbean-2014-1">Jet Blue</a> were forced to close their gates in New York and Boston, most people stayed inside instead of going to a store, and even <keyword id="35666" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="advertising">advertising</keyword> agencies themselves faced problems - there was a "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/raining-poop-at-leo-burnett-chicago-2014-1">poo eruption</a>" scare after some pipes burst in the offices of Chicago agency Leo Burnett (the agency later claimed the dirty water was poo-free). </p>
<p>But as some companies suffered, others took advantage the best they could.</p>
<p>Stores such Wal-Mart, which put up large space heater displays in its Midwestern locations, were able to benefit from a subscription to the weather forecaster Planalytics. The service helped companies plan two weeks ahead before the "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/view-of-the-polar-vortex-from-noaa-2014-1">polar vortex</a>" hit.</p>
<p>Online food delivery services Seamless and GrubHub faced a huge influx of orders, while many empty restaurants were left raising their heating bills, reports <a href="http://adage.com/abstract?article_id=290949">AdAge</a>.</p>
<p>Retailers that were able to take <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/best-coat-freezing-weather-2014-1">cold-weather wear</a> out of the clearance racks were in the best position for success, Consumer Edge Research analyst Stacie Rabinowitz told <a href="http://adage.com/abstract?article_id=290949">AdAge</a>. She mentioned T.J. Maxx and Marshall's as two brands who adapt best to adapting prices to the weather.</p>

Although not all of them are malicious, it’s recommended to treat any new site with a healthy suspicion. <br /><br />Despite many claiming to have testing kits, pandemic related information or a cure — the fact that they didn’t exist until very recently is a good reason to be skeptical, according to Olson.<br /><br />The same applies for mobile applications as well. Most people are looking for information on how Coronavirus will impact their lives and how they can stay safe, on their smartphones. <br /><br />Olson believes the best way to protect yourself is to make sure that whatever new application you install is either for the Google Play Store or the App Store. Avoid third-party sources as much as possible.<br /><br /><strong>Coronavirus in your inbox<br /></strong>The third point of attack is directly in your inbox. Since people are paying more attention to alerts and notifications that read Covid-19, attackers are using the opportunity to send malicious messages with clickbait phishing links. <br /><br />This is not restricted to one particular type of malware or event campaign. In a major shift of narrative, the government has now not disapproved the <keyword id="962031" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="authorisation">authorisation</keyword> of <keyword id="149108" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Biotech">Bharat Biotech</keyword>'s Covid vaccine to people below 18 years of age whereas earlier, it was approved for children above the age of 12 years by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).<br /><br />A letter from the office of additional secretary at the <keyword id="83655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-health-ministry">union health ministry</keyword> carrying a comparative factsheet for the two Covid vaccines approved for emergency authorisation revealed that the government has "not recommended" their authorisation to people below 18 years of age.<br /><br />The DCGI, after approving Bharat Biotech's <keyword id="9485939" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="covaxin">Covaxin</keyword> for EUA, had allowed its authorization to children above 12 years of age. The document of permission to the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical firm signed by the DCGI clearly states that "active immunization against Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) for age above 12 years when administered in two doses interval of day 0 and day 28".<br /><br />At the same time, another Corona vaccine, Covishield by <keyword id="95879" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Serum-Institute-of-India">Serum Institute of India</keyword> (SII), was permitted to people above 18 years of age, permission letter to the SII showed.<br /><br />However, when IANS approached CDSCO with the query upon this, the officials said that the provision was soon withdrawn and revised by the drug licensing authority. The sources privy to the development told IANS that this certain condition approved for Covaxin was flagged to the drug regulatory authority and soon it was rebuked.<br /><br />"We were flagged about the provision and soon it was revised with a condition that the vaccines would only be administered to beneficiaries above 18 years of age," a senior official said.<br /><br />Covaxin has been in the spotlight of controversy since it was recommended for restricted emergency use by the subject expert committee of CDSCO. It's approval for Covid immunization programme has drawn flak from public health advocacy groups, researchers, scientists and activists in the <keyword id="54611" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="domain">domain</keyword>.<br /><br />The concern with the Coxaxin largely remains on its approval without the data from phase III clinical trials which determine efficacy of the drug. So far, any data proving the vaccine's efficacy has not been published in the public domain, including any results of an interim analysis.<br /><br />Meanwhile, a series of allegations involving violation of various protocols of human clinical trials have been put forth by trial volunteers of Covaxin in Bhopal's People's Medical College and Hospital, one of the 26 clinical trial sites of the Bharat Biotech's vaccine's phase III trials.<br /><br />Trial participants in Bhopal, who, incidentally, are also victims of the 1984 gas tragedy, have alleged "severe violations" of the model code of conduct pertaining to trials including absence of consent and no follow-up on their health after developing adverse reactions post the first dose by a particular clinical trial site.<br /><br />Notably, a 45-year-old trial participant in Bhopal also died nine days after he got the first jab at the People's Hospital, on December 21. However, Bharat Biotech, in a statement, said that the death had been "thoroughly investigated" and was found "not related to vaccine or placebo".
