Nashik, May 5 () Nashik district in Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 83 new <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> positive cases and threedeaths, a district official said. With this, the number of COVID-19 deaths in the district jumped to 15 and the affected patients to 424. While two deaths were reported from Malegaon in Nashik district one person died in Nashik city, he said. Maximum cases were reported from Malegaon, followed byYeola, Deolali and Nashik city. Of the total 424 cases so far, 348 patients are from Malegaon, 27 from Nashik city and 43 from other parts of thedistrict, an official release said. The number of the recovered patients stands at 33. Nashik, Apr 30 () With five more persons testing coronavius positive, the count of COVID-19 patients in Nashik district of Maharashtra reached 281 on Thursday, official said. The new patients are from Malegaon town in the district, they said. The 281 patients include 258 from Malegaon alone, 10 from Nashik city and 11 from other parts of the district, theysaid. There are two patients from outside the district who are receiving treatment in Nashik hospitals. The virus has so far claimed the lives of 12 persons,the officials said.

Nashik, May 2 () At least 19 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra's Nashik district on Saturday, taking the tally to 316 here, an official said. Of the 19 new cases, seven were from Malegaon and 12 from Nashik, a release from the district administration state. With the fresh cases, the COVID-19 count in the district has gone up to 316, which includes 281 patients in Malegaon, 16 in Nashik city and 17 from other parts of the district, the statement read. As many as 12 patients have succumbed to the infection in the district, while 25 have recovered so far, it was stated.

Nashik records 19 new cases in last 24 hours, 2nd May

Nashik, May 3 () The number of <keyword id="8644408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coronavirus-cases">coronavirus cases</keyword> rose to 360 in Maharashtra's Nashik district after 27 more people tested positive for the disease, the district administration said on Sunday. With this, 324 COVID-19 cases have so far been reported from Malegaon town, 16 from Nashik city and 17 from other parts of the district. Besides, three patients from outside Nashik are also under going treatment in hospitals here, the district administration said in a release. The district has so far reported 12 deaths, while 25 people have been discharged after recovery.

Nashik, May 5 () A 20-year-old pregnant woman died due to COVID-19 here, taking the toll in Nashik district of Maharashtra to 13, while four more persons tested positive for the infection on Tuesday, officials said. The woman, a resident of Bajrang wadi area of the city,was admitted in serious condition in the District Civil Hospital here on May 2, according to an official release. She died at the hospital after two hours, it said. Her swab report was received on Tuesday and it was found to be positive for the novel <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword>, the release said. This was the first COVID-19 fatality reported from Nashik city, while the district's toll increased to 13, itsaid. Besides, four more persons - one each from Satana, Sinnar, Yeola and Malegaon towns - tested positive for coronavirus in the district on Tuesday, the release said. Seven people from Dabhadi (Malegaon rural) were found to be infected with the disease on Monday night. With these latest reports, the number of coronaviruscases in the district has gone up to 383, the release said. As many as 332 of these cases have been reported from Malegaon alone, it added. The number of people who have recovered from the disease and discharged from hospitals stood at 25, the releaseadded.

A welcome relief for the state health authorities, Maharashtra has seven out of 35 districts which are free of COVID-19 infections -- with not a single case reported till April 15, officials said. They are: <keyword id="6389436" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bhandara">Bhandara</keyword>, <keyword id="53901" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="chandrapur">Chandrapur</keyword>, Gadchiroli, Parbhani, Wardha, Nanded, Nandurbar. There's Solapur district, which has no case so far, though the Solapur city has reported one case, as per the latest government data. These untainted districts are designated as the 'Green Zone' in the state and now all-out efforts are underway by the district and state authorities to ensure they remain free of the corona scourge. Surprisingly, most of these districts are practically encircled by other districts, which have been affected by COVID-19, some of them badly, like Nagpur -- which is bordered by three clean districts, Bhandara, Chandrapur and Wardha. The pilgrim centre of Nanded is surrounded by Latur, Yavatmal, Hingoli which have had Covid-19 cases, and <keyword id="9057909" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="unstained-parbhani">unstained Parbhani</keyword> has other surrounding districts hit by the virus. The tribal district of Nandurbar on the northern corner bordering Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh is flanked by only one affected district to the south -- Dhule. Similarly, the unscarred Gadchiroli and Bhandara districts share borders with Gondia, among the least affected with just one case so far. The state's 'Orange Zone' comprises around 16 districts with up to 15 cases so far. These districts are: Gondia, Washim, Buldhana, Yavatmal, Amravati, Akola, Hingoli, Latur, Beed, Jalna, <keyword id="6390441" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="osmanabad">Osmanabad</keyword>, Jalgaon, Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri. However, Gondia may change colour soon after the Union Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that it was among 25 districts in the country where no new Covid-19 cases have been reported since the lockdown. There's the 'Red Zone' or those districts with a significant number of Covid-19 cases, or those like Mumbai and Pune which are considered as 'hotspots'. The 11 districts falling in the 'Red Zone' are: Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban District, Pune, Thane, Nagpur, Palghar, Raigad, Nashik, Aurangabad, Sangli and Ahmednagar. At least three districts could have escaped a colour tag, but some persons who had attended the <keyword id="274939" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tablighi-Jamaat">Tablighi Jamaat</keyword> event in Delhi were found positive there. Till April 14, Covid-19 has claimed 160 lives in the state and the total number of infectees stands at 2,684. Interestingly, Maharashtra has also notched the highest Covid-19 mortality rate which surpasses the global death rate till date, as per current data released by the state's Public Health Department.  All upcoming local bodies and civic elections in the state have been postponed by three months, the shutdown of academic institutions in urban centres has been extended to cover all educational institutions even in rural areas. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced a special ₹45 crore fund to tackle the pandemic to be distributed among the Divisional Commissioners at Konkan and Pune, while ₹5 crore each will be disbursed to Nagpur, Amravati, Aurangabad and Nashik. The money would be utilised to provide various facilities at the quarantine centres including food, television sets, indoor games like carroms, etc. The district authorities have been authorised to make emergency purchases of ventilators or required medical equipment. Thackeray appealed that those who have been advised home quarantine must voluntarily refrain from stepping out in public to prevent any risk to others.

According to officials, the man who hails from Visakhapatnam returned on March 12. With this, the state reported a positive case for a second consecutive day. A man, who had returned from London on March 15, tested positive in Ongole town of Prakasam district on Thursday. The first Covid-19 positive case was reported from Nellore district last week - a youth who returned from Italy. ‘Janta curfew’ initiative by PM Modi Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged the people of the country to opt for a ‘Janata Curfew’ on Sunday from 7 am to 9 pm. In a special address to the nation, Modi said, “Today I am requesting the people of the country for a Janta curfew, on March 22, this Sunday, from between 7 am to 9 pm. This is public curfew. Janata curfew means for the public, curfew imposed on the public by themselves.” He urged people to follow this ‘curfew’, not go out on the streets or even gather in their societies and stay inside their homes. FM will lead a COVID-19 economic response taskforce: PM The Centre has formed a COVID-19 economic response taskforce, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday. The taskforce will be led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The taskforce would assess the requirements of various sectors and oversee the implementation of the measures proposed. Many sectors like aviation, hospitality and tourism are stressed with ripple effects across the economy. Seven admitted to an isolation ward in Kolkata Seven people, some of whom had recently arrived from abroad, were admitted to the isolation ward of Beliaghata ID hospital on Thursday with Coronavirus-like symptoms, a senior official of the health department said. Two of them had travelled to Italy and reportedly came in touch with a coronavirus patient, the official said, adding that the third person is Liberian national. The swabs of all seven people have been collected but till late Thursday night. Ten new suspected cases of Coronavirus in Nashik As many as ten new coronavirus suspects were admitted to the district civil hospital in Maharashtra on Thursday (March 19), hospital sources said. All of them are Nashik citizens who had gone abroad and were admitted to the hospital after complaining of throat pain, cough or breathlessness, sources said. Meanwhile, Nashik Saraf Association has decided to keep all jewellery shops in the city closed on March 20 and 21. The famous Lord Kalaram temple in the city has also been closed for devotees. Bijnor forest bans humans to stop Corona spread The entry of human beings has been banned in the Bijnor forest area. The Bijnor forest division said that this has been done to “mitigate the possibility of infection among animals from humans as novel coronavirus is a zoonotic (spreading from non-humans to humans) disease”. The state government has already declared COVID-19 a pandemic and all departments have been put on high alert. Coronavirus in India: 390 people infected; 359 active cases, 24 cured and 7 dead

Maharashtra on Thursday saw a new record high of 11,514 Covid-19 cases, besides 316 deaths, the third-highest fatality figure so far, health officials said.</li></ul> The new daily tally surpassed the previous high of 11,147 (July 30), even as Thane became the third district after Mumbai and Pune to surpass the one lakh case mark. With the fresh fatalities, the state's death toll shot up to 16,792, while the total cases rose to 479,779 - both highest in the country. According to Thursday's figures, there was one death roughly every 5 minutes and a staggering 480 new cases every hour. The state's recovery rate increased marginally from 65.25 per cent to 65.94 per cent on Thursday, while the current mortality rate stood stable at 3.50 per cent. The Health Department said that of the total cases till date, 146,305 are active. A total of 10,854 recovered patients have returned home, taking the total number of discharged patients to 316,375. Of Thursday's deaths, Pune notched the highest, at 62, followed by Mumbai's 57, and Thane's 56 deaths. As Mumbai deaths again crossed the 50-plus range, the city's toll rose to 6,648 and the number of cases increased by 910 to 120,150. There were also 18 deaths in Nagpur, 15 in Solapur, 13 each in Nashik, Jalgaon and Kolhapur, 10 in Palghar, seven each in Aurangabad, Parbhani, and Amravati, six in Latur, five each in Raigad, Ahmednagar, Sangli, and Nanded, three in Buldhana, two each in Dhule, Satara, and Yavatmal, and one each in Nandurbar, Ratnagiri, and Akola. Maharashtra adds a records 11,514 COVID-19 cases and witnesses 316 deaths in a single day

<keyword id="927991" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Brihanmumbai-Municipal-Corporation">The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation</keyword>'s 'Chase the Virus' strategy in Dharavi -- Asia's biggest slum -- has found a new fan in the <keyword id="1193333" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Philippines-government">Philippines government</keyword>. as the Southeast Asia nation also grapples with the Covid-19 pandemic, a top official said here on Tuesday. "The Philippines government will follow and implement the Dharavi Model for containing Covid in densely populated slums" an elated BMC Municipal Commissioner I.S. Chahal told IANS. The BMC has already shared details of the 'Chase the Virus' policy with the Philippines' Department of Health (DOH). A news portal, Inquirer.net on Tuesday, has quoted the Philippines DOH which declared that it would follow the <keyword id="9780178" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="dharavi-mumbai">Dharavi-Mumbai</keyword> campaign conceptualized by BMC's Assistant Municipal Commissioner Kiran Dighavkar which earned all round praise. The Philippines, with a population of around 10.1 crore crammed in an area of nearly 2.98 lakh sq.km, is slightly smaller than Maharashtra with 3.07 lakh sq. km area and a population close to 11.5 crore. However, the archipelagic country currently ranks 22nd on the Corona Worldometer with 169,213 cases and 2,687 fatalities compared to Maharashtra's 604,358 cases and 20,265 deaths. Like Mumbai, around 30-lakh people live in congested slums in Manila, besides other cities in the Philippines. The high population density of Dharavi posed a huge challenge to the BMC and state health authorities to tackle the Corona spread. Civic officials said that the city succeeded in achieving what was earlier considered virtually a "mission impossible", especially in Dharavi, earning the BMC and Maharashtra government a pat from <keyword id="2555741" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-World-Health-Organisation">the World Health Organisation</keyword> in early July. Chahal said that as a result of its strategy, there are only 17,704 'active cases' in Mumbai, of which around 5,338 symptomatic patients are currently in hospitals. The city - which last week came down to the second worst-hit city (after Pune district moved to the top slot) in terms of Covid cases - is witnessing an average of less than 1,000 new cases daily, the recovery rate is 80 percent, doubling rate of cases is 86 days, and infection rate is 0.8 percent - among the lowest anywhere. The situation has eased to the extent that since late June, the BMC started moving out of Dharavi, and later shut down several small or medium quarantine facilities in the city. Patients are now being referred to the jumbo facilities at NSCI, Mahalaxmi Race Court, <keyword id="102951" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bandra-Kurla-Complex">Bandra Kurla Complex</keyword> and in Dahisar and Mulund to ensure centralised care. Amid apprehensions of patients unable to get beds, the current bed strength is 16,075 for complicated or serious cases, 23,437 for mild and asymptomatic patients besides 10,525 oxygen beds, 1,844 ICU beds and 1,096 ventilator beds. Of these, nearly 14,548 are vacant, but ready for operationalisation whenever required, besides 330 vacant in ICUs, giving a very comfortable position, said Chahal. Buoyed by the success of the 'Chase the Virus' game, the state government is now implementing it in Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Pune, Aurangabad, Solapur, Nashik, Jalgaon and other upcoming hotspots even as the Mumbai Corona crisis has practically been 'chased' away. Meanwhile, the number of people sent to home-quarantine decreased from Wednesday's 582,699 to 581,650 now, while those in institutional quarantine decreased from 27,582 on Wednesday to 26,740 now. In another relief for the patients, there are as many as 92,141 beds currently available in 2,203 institutions for Covid-19 related quarantine in the state. (Eds: Combining related stories) New Delhi, May 8 () Amid a continuing rise in the number of people testing positive for COVID-19, the Union Health Ministry on Friday said people should "learn to live with the virus" while the nationwide tally of confirmed infections crossed 57,000 and the death toll neared 1,900. The ministry also reeled off various datasets, including those showing a rising number of infection-free districts and an increasing recovery rate, to suggest success of the government's strategy in the COVID-19 fight, even as it sought "a behavioural change" and everyone's support in this massive challenge. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, however, admitted there has been no success yet in breaking the virus chain and said his government may seek deployment of central forces, if needed, to allow police personnel to take rest in phases. The state tops the nationwide tally for confirmed cases as well as deaths. A large number of new cases were reported during the day from various cities in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, while Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha also reported rise in their tallies. However, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh reported only one fresh positive case each. The economic cost of the COVID-19 fight and the ongoing nationwide lockdown also appeared rising manifold with Moody's Investors Service projecting India's economic growth at zero per cent for the current fiscal. It also said that a high government debt, weak social and physical infrastructure, and a fragile financial sector face further pressures due to the coronavirus outbreak. According to experts, industrial and other business establishments may also face a huge labour shortage once they resume operations after the lockdown, which has been in place since March 25 and is scheduled to continue till May 17. Lakhs of migrant workers have either left for their native places or are in the process of doing so, including by trains and buses arranged by central and state governments. There are also worries that the virus spread may grow further in newer areas following these movements, while a large number of Indians stranded abroad have also begun returning home in special flights. During a press briefing on the COVID-19 situation, Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said, "As we talk of relaxations to the lockdown and of migrant workers returning back to their respective homes, there is a big challenge in front of us that we also have to learn to live with the virus." "And when we are talking about learning to live with the virus then it is very important that the guidelines that are there on saving oneself from the virus are adopted in the community as a behavioural change," he said. It is a big challenge and the government needs the community support for it, Agarwal added. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also recently said the people will have to be ready to live with the novel coronavirus and that time has come to re-open the city. Agarwal said there has been a reduction in the doubling time of COVID-19 cases in the country from 12 days till two days ago to 10 now because of the spike in cases at some places, but asserted that the peak of the disease can be avoided if the prescribed do's and don'ts are followed. According to the daily morning update from the ministry, a total of 3,390 COVID-19 cases and 103 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours till Friday 8 AM, taking the total number of cases to 56,342 and death toll to 1,886. However, a tally of numbers reported by different states and union territories till 6.30 PM showed that nearly 57,500 have tested positive so far across the country. This marks an increase of nearly 5,000 since Thursday morning. Close to 17,000 COVID-19 patients have also recovered so far, giving a recovery rate of more than 29 per cent. The worldwide recovery rate has been hovering around 33 per cent for the past few days. Since its outbreak in China last December, more than 38.6 lakh people have been found to be infected with this virus, while over 2.7 lakh have lost their lives. Nearly 13 lakh people have recovered so far, including about 2 lakh in the US. In India, big urban centres across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi have been reporting large numbers of positive cases. While rising numbers were reported from Mumbai, Nashik, Thane and Aurangabad, among other places, in Maharashtra on Friday as well, Tamil Nadu saw its tally rising by 600 to cross the 6,000-mark while its death toll also rose to 40. On the outskirts of the national capital, Noida reported its first death while its tally of confirmed cases rose to 214. Gujarat reported 390 new cases, taking its tally to 7,403, while the death toll also rose to 449 with 24 more patients dying in the last 24 hours. Giving the district-wise situation of coronavirus cases, Agarwal said there are 216 districts in which no COVID-19 case has been reported till date. On May 1, the ministry had divided 733 districts in the country into three zones -- 130 in red, 284 in orange and 319 in green. Agarwal said 42 districts have had no fresh cases in the last 28 days while 29 districts have reported no new case in the last 21 days. Also, 36 districts have not registered any fresh cases in the last 14 days and 46 districts have had no fresh cases in the last seven days, he said. In Kerala, which reported one solitary case during the day, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state has flattened the COVID-19 curve. He also said the state needed to be careful to avoid another wave of the deadly virus but asserted it was ready to fight it in such an event. Among other people, several paramilitary personnel have also contracted the virus and one CISF official posted in Kolkata succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday. The number of active cases of the infection in the five paramilitary is more than 530, while thousands have been placed under preventive or clinical quarantine, officials said. A total of five paramilitary personnel have died so far of COVID-19, two each from BSF and CISF and one from the CRPF. Maharashtra's Health Minister Rajesh Tope said Mumbai should see a sharp decline in COVID-19 cases in the next 15-20 days. Separately, a panel of experts, formed to suggest ways to revive Maharashtra's economy, hit by the COVID-19 crisis and the resultant lockdown, submitted its report to the government during the day. Several states have been taking steps to shore up their resources, including by levying higher taxes on fuel and liquor. After Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and several others, Himachal Pradesh government has now decided to impose a 'corona cess' on liquor sales, while Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy also said the territorial administration was mulling imposition of special COVID-19 tax on liquor to wriggle out of the current fiscal crisis. The Madras High Court, however, ordered closure of liquor shops in Tamil Nadu a day after they were reopened, but allowed sale of liquor through online and door delivery till the end of the lockdown. The Supreme Court also asked states to consider non-direct contact or online sales and home delivery of liquor during the lockdown period to prevent the spread of coronavirus on account of crowding at the shops. Liquor shops were allowed to be opened in the third phase of the lockdown, which began on May 4, subject to compliance to social distancing and other guidelines issued by the government.
