An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in <keyword id="17605" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword>'s Srinagar on Monday, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in <keyword id="10091407" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="old-barzulla-area">Old Barzulla area</keyword> of the city here in the early hours of Monday after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said. Around 7:45 AM, when searches were underway, the militants opened on the forces, he said. The forces retaliated and an encounter ensued, he added. After the initial contact, there was a lull for half an hour and then the firing resumed, the official said. The operation is underway and further details are awaited, he said. Encounter breaks out between security forces and militants in Srinagar

Two CRPF men were killed and three others injured after terrorists attacked a road opening party of the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday, officials said. The attack took place in the Kandzal area of Pampore. Sources said the road opening party (ROP) of the CRPF and <keyword id="17605" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> Police was fired upon by the terrorists. Five CRPF personnel sustained injuries and were evacuated to the district hospital, where two succumbed to their injuries. Additional security forces have reached the spot. The area has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway. The Iraqi military, with support from the US-led coalition, Kurdish forces, and Iranian-backed Shiite militia units, have been <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/10/16/iraqi-forces-poised-to-launch-operation-to-retake-isis-held-mosul.html" target="_blank">slowly closing in</a> on Mosul since the start of an offensive on October 16.
