The oil major said in an outlook published this month that global oil demand will remain above 100 million barrels a day through 2050, even as the share of renewable powers grows. Broken down by source, it sees oil and gas accounting for 54% of the global energy mix by 2050, coal at 13%, nuclear energy at 6%, bioenergy at 10%, and renewables like wind, solar, and hydroelectric at 15%.That forecast stands in contrast to predictions from the International Energy Agency, which predicts that oil and gas demand will peak and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/global-oil-demand-prices-supply-opec-us-crude-producers-iea-2024-6">plateau at 105.6 million barrels per day</a> by 2029.Exxon, the leading oil and gas company in the US, pointed to a rise in the global population to 10 billion in 2050, up from 8 billion today.With half of the world's population currently living below Exxon's "modern energy minimum"—having enough energy for housing, infrastructure, jobs, and mobility—the company projects a 15% increase in global energy use is necessary for reliable energy worldwide by 2050.That rise in energy use will be predominantly driven by a 25% increase among developing countries, whose current energy problems put inhabitants at risk from harmful cooking fuels, limited electricity, and poverty, the report says.Developed countries, on the other hand, will decrease energy use by 10% due to improved efficiency.The report says that even greater adoption of electric vehicles won't make a dent in oil and gas usage."What many don't realize is that making gasoline is but one relatively small use for oil," Exxon said in its report, adding that the majority of the world's oil is used for industrial processes like manufacturing, and for transportation like shipping, trucking, and air travel."These services are needed for modern life – and they also fuel future economic growth in the developing world," the report says.At the same time, the report predicts carbon emissions will drop for the first time in 2030. Last year, the company's annual report said the world likely won't meet the emission reduction targets that were set in the Paris Climate Accords in 2015 to curb the effects of climate change.

The other day, I'm in technical college, learning more about the trade and studying for my qualifications.It's part practical and part theory. At the moment, I'm in a workshop doing installments of boilers and hot water cylinders.When I started the course at 16, my tutor was taken aback. I was the only student out of 25 who'd already got a paid position. Plumbing is a competitive career and the others were still looking for jobs.They asked me how I'd got the apprenticeship, and I had to smile. I did things a bit differently by thinking outside the box.I decided I wanted to be a plumber after doing some work experience during the British equivalent of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/college-gap-year-decision-pros-cons-2024-9">10th grade in high school</a>. I shadowed a family friend who had done the gas engineering at my parents' house.<h2 id="fe37fb66-d8b0-4ab1-82c7-f46ae2dfe301">Plumbing offers job stability</h2>I've always been handy and was also thinking about carpentry, bricklaying, or becoming an electrician. But during that week, I got real satisfaction from fixing plumbing connections and putting in fittings.It felt rewarding to be called by a customer at 8 a.m. and have their heat and hot water back up and running by midday. I also enjoyed the teamwork with the other guys.Unfortunately, they couldn't <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sheet-metal-apprentice-unknown-calling-apprenticeship-opportunities-2022-1">offer me an apprenticeship</a> because the boss was winding down the business. But I was determined to get into the industry. It had stability because people always need plumbers, especially commercial ones who serve places like offices and hotels.The average salary is about $45,000 annually. And, if you go on to run your own company, you could be earning as much as $60,000.I knew I was leaving school at 16 in July 2019 after completing my final exams. Plumbers' merchants, where they buy their supplies.Dad and I made a list of hardware stores that mostly catered to tradespeople. They were all within a 10-mile radius of our house. Then, we laminated 200 <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-to-remove-from-resume-2016-11">copies of my résumé </a>— which included my work experience — to distribute both inside and outside the merchants.Every night for a week, Dad and I prepared giant-size <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/review-british-sausage-rolls-holiday-party-2022-12">pigs in a blanket</a>. We listened to playlists in the kitchen while we put together the sausage meat and pastry. Then, at around 5:30 a.m. the next day, we'd bake the batch of around 45 breakfast snacks in the oven.We kept them warm in insulator containers and drove to each plumber merchant, starting at 7 a.m. We'd give some to the merchants and ask if we could put my résumé on the counter. Then, as the plumbers came out of the store, we'd given them a pig in a blanket and a CV. We'd go to three different stores every morning.<h2 id="6a5b08e0-398e-4bf4-b913-524cc34fd982">The tactic was a solid investment</h2>I was shy at first, but after a while, I felt more confident and would chat about wanting a job. "It's good to see young people going out there trying to make a name for themselves," one plumber said as he ate the snack and put my CV in his van. "If I needed an apprentice, I'd hire you in a heartbeat," another said.The tactic worked. It didn't take long before the head of a commercial plumbing company called me on my cellphone. He'd gotten hold of my résumé. "I admire you for showing initiative," he said. Apparently, I'd become famous in the plumbing community as "the kid with the pigs in a blanket."He gave me a week's trial and then offered me the job. Reliance and its partner bp Plc currently produce around 30 mmscmd or about 30 per cent of India's gas production, from the KG-D6 block. At an investors' call announcing the fourth quarter earnings, Sanjay Roy, senior vice-president for exploration and production at <keyword id="19896380" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries" source="keywords">Reliance Industries</keyword> Ltd, said the development plan for incremental production has been approved by the government. "One good aspect of this quarter gone by was that we had an incremental development plan approved by the government, which has the potential to deliver incremental production of 4 to 5 million standard cubic meters (per day) in the coming few years, which would augment the production that we have," he said. He, however, did not give details of the investment approved. Reliance-bp produces some 30 mmscmd of gas from three sets of discoveries in the deep-sea KG-DWN-98/3 or KG-D6 block, the last - MJ oil and gas field - being put into production in May 2023. All three sets of discoveries, with MJ being the deepest, were made more than a decade back and have been progressively put into production. Prior to that, they had brought the R-Cluster field to production in December 2020 and the Satellite Cluster in April 2021. KG-D6 has helped domestic production of natural gas, which is used to generate electricity, make fertilizer or turned into CNG for running automobiles or piped to kitchens for cooking, touching a multi-year high of 99 mmscmd. Total gas demand in the country is around 188 mmscmd, with the difference being met through imports. "When we look at the (domestic) production, we can see clearly there's been a sharp increase in production since FY21. And although the overall domestic production, besides KG-D6, has been flat, KG-D6 production is almost 90 per cent of the incremental domestic gas production," Roy said. Reliance is the operator of the KG-D6 block with a 66.67 per cent stake and bp holds the remaining 33.33 per cent. Reliance has so far made 19 gas discoveries in the KG-D6 block. Of these, D-1 and D-3 -- the largest among the lot -- were brought into production in April 2009, and MA, the only oilfield in the block, was put into production in September 2008. While the MA field stopped producing in September 2018, output from D-1 and D-3 ceased in February 2020. Since then, Reliance-bp invested USD 5 billion in bringing to production three deepwater gas projects in block KG-D6 -- R-Cluster, Satellites Cluster, and MJ. The MJ field is located about 2,000 metres directly below the Dhirubhai-1 and 3 (D1 and D3) fields. It is a high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT), gas and condensate field. Besides gas, it is to produce 25,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak. "It's a major challenge and reputation blow for Iran's intelligence and security agencies."While Israel has targeted military and nuclear sites in Iran before, this attack hit the Islamic Republic's vital energy infrastructure."The level of impact was very high because these are two significant pipelines going south to north. But, once either was ignited, the other didn't turn on. I decided not to risk it for the holiday. If there's one day of the year you need an oven, it's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/thanksgiving-cooking-timeline-when-to-start-each-dish-2017-10">Thanksgiving</a>.There was time to order a new range, and I found a deal at a clearance center for a high-end floor model. While hooking up the stove, one burner caught fire. That year, we bought two turkeys to feed the large crowd, plus enough for leftovers.I had visions of my husband tending a smoker at 2 a.m. We had no experience deep frying or smoking turkeys and didn't own a fryer or smoker. Instead of risking having no turkey, I outsourced the main course to my parents.Then, I planned a menu using the tools available — a slow cooker, grill, and toaster oven. I found recipes for slow cooker sides to stand in for our family favorites and planned to grill vegetables. Reliance has sought bids for sale of 0.65 million standard cubic meters per day from CBM block SP(West)-CBM-2001/1 for one year beginning April 1, 2023, the company's tender document showed. It asked bidders to quote a variable 'v' as a percentage of dated Brent crude oil price. Starting bid price has been kept as 15 per cent of Brent ('v' = 15 per cent). At the current Brent price of USD 85 per barrel, this translates into a price of USD 12.75 per mmBtu. e-bidding will happen on February 24. ONGC has offered 0.015 mmscmd of gas from North Karanpura (NK) block in Jharkhand for 3 years. It asked bidders to quote a premium 'p' as a percentage of Brent price. The reserve or bid start price has been kept at 11 per cent of Dated Brent price (USD 9.35 per mmBtu at Brent oil price of USD 85 per barrel). Price of gas "shall be higher of the reserve gas price plus quoted premium (p) or floor price plus quoted premium (p)," ONGC said. The floor price will be USD 1 per mmBtu higher than the domestic gas price (which currently is USD 8.57 per mmBtu). The e-auction of ONGC gas will take place on March 2, it said. CBM is an unconventional form of natural gas found in coal deposits or coal seams. Just like natural gas, it can be used to produce electricity and as feedstock for fertilisers, industrial uses such as in cement production, rolling mills, steel plants, and for methanol production. It can also be compressed into CNG for use as fuel in automobiles or piped to household kitchens for cooking. While the government every six months fixes the price of natural gas produced from conventional fields, the pricing of gas from coal seams, called CBM, is free or market-determined. The minimum price ONGC is seeking in the latest tender is less than what it had sought for CBM from a Bokaro block in Jharkhand last year. In June 2022, ONGC invited bids for the sale of 0.20 mmscmd at a reserve or floor price of 14 per cent of the Dated Brent crude oil price plus USD 1 per million British thermal unit, the sale tender had shown. Bidders will have to quote a premium they are willing to offer over that reserve price. The floor price was the government-mandated price for domestic natural gas plus a USD 1 per mmBtu mark-up. The "Contract Gas price shall be the higher of the 14 per cent of Dated Brent Price plus USD 1 per mmBtu plus 'P' (the biddable parameter); or the floor price," it had said. At the current Brent crude oil price of USD 85 per barrel, the reserve gas price came to USD 12.9 per mmBtu in that tender. Reliance had sold 0.65 mmscmd of gas from block SP-(West)-CBM-2001/1 at a USD 8.28 premium over prevailing Brent crude oil prices. The firm had sought bids at a premium over the base of 13.2 per cent of Brent crude oil prices. At the then Brent crude oil price of USD 115 per barrel, the base came to USD 15.18 per mmBtu and adding USD 8.28 premium bid by state-owned gas utility GAIL and other firms, the final price was USD 23.46 per mmBtu.
