New Delhi, Mar 22 () To carry out basic essential transactions, the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) has asked banks to open only selective branches in areas that have been placed under lockdown across the country in view of the coronavirus pandemic. In a late night communique to the heads of banks, the IBA requested the state level SLBC convenor banks and lead district managers to proactively consult the state administration to chalk out a feasible Business Continuity Plan (BCP). India reported three more coronavirus deaths on Sunday, including the first casualties from Bihar and Gujarat, taking the toll to seven and the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 360, as authorities suspended all passenger trains and inter-state bus services till March 31 and more states imposed unprecedented restrictions to contain the spread of the infection. "Keeping this in view, after due deliberation, it is suggested that member banks may selectively keep their branches open at such locations after due consultation with the local state government/authorities to carry out the basic essential transactions," the IBA said. The association asked the CEO of banks to empower their regional or zonal or circle heads to take appropriate decision in the matter. "State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) convenors should also take concurrence of the regional director of RBI for implementation of BCP prepared by them. The MD &amp; CEOs of the SLBC convenor banks may take the lead in providing guidance to the SLBC convenor and member banks in the state for effective implementation of the contingency plan," it said. The IBA asked all banks to prepare BCP for uninterrupted availability of banking services through alternate delivery channels for the convenience of the public and expressed hope that all the member banks will rise to the occasion to collectively sail through the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier in the day, the association had asked customers to use online and mobile banking channels for making their transactions and avoid visiting bank branches as it could pose a risk to banks' front desk staff. The strike has been called off following an agreement reached with the management of the companies at the conciliation meeting called by the Chief Labour Commissioner, Central. "Various arguments took place in the meeting from both sides and finally, the CLC advised the managements to give proper bilateral opportunity for discussion with the Associations within 15 days and take the suggestions," Trilok Singh, Convenor-North Zone, Joint Forum of Trade Unions and Association (JFTU), told IANS. He said the CLC had further advised that the managements should consider the suggestions of the associations positively. "Managements agreed to meet the Associations within 15 days for the same. In the light of these instructions from the CLC's office and the managements' decision, we have decided to defer the strike till further advices," Singh said. At the conciliation meeting, the management representative said since 2016 it has been a matter of existence for the insurers. They said even after infusion of capital by the government, the companies are struggling to survive. The companies have to maintain solvency ratio and for that, they have to cost effective. The representative of the Department of Financial Services also maintained that the insurers have to improve their performance. The strike notice was given by Girish Khurana, National Convenor, JFTY protesting against the unilateral implementation of the EY recommendations on rejigging the five reinsurers. The CLC had called the Chairman-cum-Managing Directors of the five companies, Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services, and Khurana for a conciliation meeting. The unions have been demanding the copy of the EY report for a long time. The management had given them a copy of the power point presentation made to them about the EY report. In a bizarre development, the Securities &amp; Exchange Board of India (<keyword id="35210" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="SEBI" source="Orion">SEBI</keyword>) has released a list of some nine <keyword id="65338" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="income-tax-department" source="Orion">Income Tax Department</keyword> defaulters comprising companies and individuals who have reportedly gone 'missing' and untraceable. The matter came to light when the SEBI Recovery Officers attempted to serve the notices of demand on these defaulters against whom the Recovery Certificates have been drawn up. Some of the defaulters who have to cough out unspecified amounts of dues are missing for the past nearly two years, and some others untraceable for the past two weeks, from one or multiple addresses available with the market regulator. They are: MYNK1906 Industries India Ltd, with three known addresses, one at Vile Parle and two in south Mumbai; Inducon India Ltd., with two addresses, one each in south Mumbai and Andheri, (both untraceable since April 27, 2021). There's Classic Press International Ltd., with two addresses in Goregaon suburb, but is said to be out of bounds since June 17, 2021. Three others that are 'missing' since July 19, 2022 from multiple addresses are: Goodearth Financial Services Ltd, from Vile Parle east; <keyword id="15907249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aci-infocom-ltd" source="Orion">Aci Infocom Ltd</keyword>, operating from three addresses in Kandivali and three in Nariman Point; and Tejoomals Industries Ltd, not located at its sole address in Santacruz. Rajendra Mining Spares Co. Ltd, working from two locations in Andheri east has gone untraceable since July 26, 2022; Gloria Leasing Ltd, operating from south Mumbai and Karjat in Raigad, not available since September 29, 2022. Dynavox Industries Ltd, functioning from two neighbouring locations in Worli, has become missing since this month, December 6, 2022. Welcoming the SEBI move, <keyword id="15907248" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="trade-unions-joint-action-committee" source="Orion">Trade Unions Joint Action Committee</keyword> (TUJAC) <keyword id="352912" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="convenor" source="Orion">Convenor</keyword> and banking expert Vishwas Utagi said that it is "a matter of serious concern" how these entities and the individuals connected with them have abruptly gone off the radar, and must be probed. "These companies are liable to pay their dues and various government taxes... If they don't come forward, it will pave the way for SEBI to move other agencies and invoke relevant laws to attach and sell off these defaulters' assets to recover its outstanding amounts," Utagi told IANS. Admitting to the 'untraceable defaulters', the SEBI said that it has not been able to serve the Notice of Demands on them "at their last known address". The SEBI has 'advised' these defaulters to contact the Recovery Officer Srishti Ambokar vide a letter or email within a fortnight by January 12, 2023. It has also appealed to the general public that if anybody has any knowledge on the whereabouts of these defaulters, they can write/email to the Recovery Officer by the same date, though in this era, no telephone numbers are provided. Market regulator SEBI issues list of 'most wanted defaulters' - all untraceable

The recent report was submitted by Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad, one of India’s top management colleges. 
 Out of the total of 1.8 lakh people who appeared in <keyword id="2970556" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="CAT-2015">CAT 2015</keyword>, 17 students scored 100 percentile and all 17 of them had engineering degrees. 
 
"Many students with an engineering background are bent on pursuing an engineering-MBA combination and prepare accordingly. People from other backgrounds don't always take the CAT equally seriously. Also, a lot of the best students from streams such as physics, chemistry and English don't even opt for CAT," said CAT convenor Tathagata Bandyopadhyay of IIM-A. "Otherwise, motivated students from other streams can fare just as well."

Guwahati, Mar 24 () The Assam tea industry onTuesday sought exemption of gardens from the lockdownannounced by the state government to contain the spread of thenovel coronavirus.The Consultative Committee of Plantation Associations'Assam Valley branch convenor Abhijit Sharma said thatnecessary plant protection measures through spraying of pestrepellents to tea bushes and irrigation are essential.In the absence of such measures, there will bepermanent damage to the tea bushes, which will aggravatelosses of production and productivity, Sharma, who is alsosecretary of Assam Branch of Indian Tea Association, said."We, therefore, would like to make a humble submissionto allow the tea gardens to undertake spraying and irrigationoperations in the tea sections and the concerned executives,staff and workers to work in such operations during the periodof closure as announced," Sharma said in a letter to theprincipal secretary of the labour welfare department.The state government had announced that Assam will beunder lockdown from 6 pm on Tuesday till March 31 in the wakeof the novel coronavirus pandemic.In view of scanty rainfall at present, it is alsorequired to continue irrigation in the tea gardens, Sharmasaid.The Tea Research Association (TRA), in a separateletter, has also said that the essential plant protectionmeasures are necessary for the productivity of tea gardens. Coronavirus: Assam tea industry seeks exemption from lockdown

New Delhi, Dec 10 () Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi will be the convener of a Group of Ministers on Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) replacing Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, GST Council sources said on Tuesday.
 Sitharaman was inadvertently mentioned as the convenor of the panel set up to discuss issues relating to IGST after she had a meeting with Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan finance ministers and deputy chief ministers of Delhi and Puducherry on December 4, they said.
 Since the Union Finance Minister is the chairperson of the GST Council, she could not have headed the panel, they said.
 The GoM will deliberate on IGST issues of the states and submit its recommendations to Sitharaman.
 A modification has been made late Tuesday evening to the constitution of GoM on IGST making Sushil Modi its convener, they said.
 Last week, finance ministers and representatives of opposition-ruled states met Sitharaman and expressed their concern over delay in release of GST compensation which has put them in an acute financial position.
 The finance ministers of Delhi, Punjab, Puducherry and Madhya Pradesh and representatives of Kerala, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh attended the meeting over the delay in payment of compensation. DP SMN

Kolkata, Mar 23 () Following the lockdown in mostparts of West Bengal in view of the coronavirus outbreak,banking transactions in the state will be reduced by two hourstill 2 pm instead of 4 pm from Tuesday, an official of theState Level Banker's Committee (SLBC) said here.The decision was taken at an SLBC meeting on Monday.Ashok Pradhan, MD &amp; CEO of the United Bank of India(UBI), the convenor of SLBC in West Bengal, told thatbanks will carry out basic four operations -- deposits,withdrawals, remittances and government transactions."For the time being, banking transactions will be heldtill 2 pm. To observe social distancing, we will ask customersnot to come to the bank for passbook printing. It is beingsuspended for the time being," he said.All rural branches will remain open, and in the metroswhere branches are concentrated within a certain area,services will be provided in a truncated manner as all of themare in CBS platform, an official of the UCO Bank said.At the SLBC meeting, discussions were also held on howemployees will reach the office during banking hours due tothe lockdown when no public transport will be available, hesaid.Banking services were exempted from the purview of thelockdown which will continue till March 27. dc BDCNN NN

New <keyword id="19900881" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi" source="keywords">Delhi</keyword>: Delhi Chief Minister <keyword id="19901384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arvind-kejriwal" source="keywords">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> was arrested by the <keyword id="19895344" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="enforcement-directorate" source="keywords">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED) on Thursday night in an excise policy-linked money laundering case, officials said. The arrest, the first of a sitting chief minister, came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant protection to the <keyword id="19914482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aap" source="keywords">AAP</keyword> national convenor from any coercive action by the agency. The 55-year-old leader's arrest, amid campaign for the <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections, drew angry reactions from his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Soon after the high court order, an ED team reached his residence and carried out searches. Subsequently, he was arrested, officials said. Officials said the ED would produce the chief minister before a court here on Friday and seek his custody for interrogation. As the ED officials carried out their action inside, additional Delhi Police personnel and Rapid Action Force (RAF) and CRPF teams were deployed around the chief minister's residence. The additional deployment was made as the ED sought extra security measures in anticipation of protests by AAP supporters, sources said. A large number of AAP workers and leaders gathered near the chief minister's residence and shouted slogans against the ED action. During the day, <keyword id="19895701" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="keywords">Kejriwal</keyword> moved the Supreme Court against the high court's order denying him any relief in the matter. The ED's action is virtually a replay of what transpired during the arrest last week of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader <keyword id="19987244" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="k-kavitha" source="keywords">K Kavitha</keyword>, who is now in ED custody in the same case. The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are in judicial custody in the case. Kejriwal's name has been mentioned multiple times in the charge sheets filed by the ED. The agency has alleged that the accused were in touch with Kejriwal for formulating the excise policy that resulted in undue benefits to them in return for which they paid kickbacks to the AAP.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> had spent about half-a-crore rupees during his election campaign against <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>, even though he claimed that his party was cash-strapped. 
 
According to the details submitted to the district administration, Congress candidate Ajay Rai spent Rs 54.45 lakh, Arvind Kejriwal spent Rs 50.10 lakh and Narendra Modi spent Rs 37.62 lakh. 
 
Varanasi’s Chief Treasury Officer Ramamurthy Dwivedi said that Samajwadi Party’s (SP) Kailash Chaurasiya spent Rs 24.54 lakh while Indira Tiwari of Trinamool Congress spent Rs 14.58 lakh. 
 
According to Varanasi officials, the BJP spent the most (Rs 9.41 lakh) on publicity material, such as handbills, pamphlets, posters, CDs and cassettes. 
 
Samajwadi Party put in Rs 13.20 lakh on publicity while Congress topped the publicity expenditure list, spending a whopping Rs 24.92 lakh on digital media channels, such as SMS, cable network, the Internet and social media. 
 
AAP’s Purvanchal zone convenor Sanjeev Singh claimed that the BJP’s actual expenditure was much higher. “They distributed lakhs of T-shirts and saffron gamchhas (towels) throughout Varanasi. There was unaccounted publicity material funded by corporate houses and then there was publicity material in disguise. The best examples are, perhaps, the huge hoardings for Gujarat Tourism in Varanasi,” he said.

Chennai, Jul 1 (): Consortium of Indian Associations on Wednesday cautioned that the impact of COVID- 19 on micro, small and medium enterprises would be known only in August and the GST collection should be at least Rs 1.75 lakh crore in June. Consortium of Indian Associations' convenor K E Raghunathan said the impact of COVID-19 on the MSME industry would be known in August as many units would execute the orders in June and July. "Unless fresh orders arrive, August functionality (of these units) will be worse. The worst will be felt from August to December as demand will be very low," he said in a statement. He said when the micro, small and medium enterprises suspended operations since March 25 due to the COVID-19 enforced lockdown, the units had orders which would have been completed by March 31 coinciding with the end of the financial year. "The GST collection in June should have been at least Rs 1.75 lakh crore as we had 65 days of invoicing", he said. The government released data on GST revenue collection on Wednesday which stood at Rs 90,917 crore in June 2020, up from Rs 62,009 crore mopped up in May and Rs 32,294 crore in April. However, on a year-on-year basis, the GST was nine per cent lower while it was 62 per cent down in May and fell 28 per cent in April. VIJ SS
