In a bizarre development, the Securities &amp; Exchange Board of India (<keyword id="35210" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="SEBI" source="Orion">SEBI</keyword>) has released a list of some nine <keyword id="65338" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="income-tax-department" source="Orion">Income Tax Department</keyword> defaulters comprising companies and individuals who have reportedly gone 'missing' and untraceable. The matter came to light when the SEBI Recovery Officers attempted to serve the notices of demand on these defaulters against whom the Recovery Certificates have been drawn up. Some of the defaulters who have to cough out unspecified amounts of dues are missing for the past nearly two years, and some others untraceable for the past two weeks, from one or multiple addresses available with the market regulator. They are: MYNK1906 Industries India Ltd, with three known addresses, one at Vile Parle and two in south Mumbai; Inducon India Ltd., with two addresses, one each in south Mumbai and Andheri, (both untraceable since April 27, 2021). There's Classic Press International Ltd., with two addresses in Goregaon suburb, but is said to be out of bounds since June 17, 2021. Three others that are 'missing' since July 19, 2022 from multiple addresses are: Goodearth Financial Services Ltd, from Vile Parle east; <keyword id="15907249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aci-infocom-ltd" source="Orion">Aci Infocom Ltd</keyword>, operating from three addresses in Kandivali and three in Nariman Point; and Tejoomals Industries Ltd, not located at its sole address in Santacruz. Rajendra Mining Spares Co. Ltd, working from two locations in Andheri east has gone untraceable since July 26, 2022; Gloria Leasing Ltd, operating from south Mumbai and Karjat in Raigad, not available since September 29, 2022. Dynavox Industries Ltd, functioning from two neighbouring locations in Worli, has become missing since this month, December 6, 2022. Welcoming the SEBI move, <keyword id="15907248" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="trade-unions-joint-action-committee" source="Orion">Trade Unions Joint Action Committee</keyword> (TUJAC) <keyword id="352912" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="convenor" source="Orion">Convenor</keyword> and banking expert Vishwas Utagi said that it is "a matter of serious concern" how these entities and the individuals connected with them have abruptly gone off the radar, and must be probed. "These companies are liable to pay their dues and various government taxes... If they don't come forward, it will pave the way for SEBI to move other agencies and invoke relevant laws to attach and sell off these defaulters' assets to recover its outstanding amounts," Utagi told IANS. Admitting to the 'untraceable defaulters', the SEBI said that it has not been able to serve the Notice of Demands on them "at their last known address". The SEBI has 'advised' these defaulters to contact the Recovery Officer Srishti Ambokar vide a letter or email within a fortnight by January 12, 2023. It has also appealed to the general public that if anybody has any knowledge on the whereabouts of these defaulters, they can write/email to the Recovery Officer by the same date, though in this era, no telephone numbers are provided. Centre University of Jammu (CUJ) on Wednesday announced that its <keyword id="21857333" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Radio-Sonde" source="keywords">Radio-Sonde</keyword>, a crucial tool for <keyword id="21857334" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="atmospheric-data-collection" source="keywords">atmospheric data collection</keyword>, was launched successfully from its <keyword id="19915124" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ISRO" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="ISRO" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="ISRO">ISRO</keyword> centre in <keyword id="19918866" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samba" source="keywords">Samba</keyword> district of Jammu and Kashmir. The launch, a part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the <keyword id="20058612" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Remote-Sensing-Centre" source="keywords">National Remote Sensing Centre</keyword> (NRSC), ISRO and CUJ, aims to enhance the understanding of atmospheric conditions and climate change, contributing valuable data to both national and global meteorological research, a varsity spokesperson said. Using hydrogen-filled balloons, the scientists record atmospheric pressure, temperature, wind direction, and speed from 12 kilometres above earth's surface and the data is transmitted to the ground via radio signals. The spokesperson said this is only the third testing facility of its kind established by ISRO at CUJ. CUJ vice chancellor Prof Sanjeev Jain said the milestone event marks a significant achievement in the university's ongoing commitment to advancing space science research and technology. "Today's successful launch of the Radio-Sonde exemplifies our commitment to enhancing innovation and research in space sciences. This entire Radio-Sonde system is fully developed indigenously by ISRO under the 'Make in India' vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "This initiative not only strengthens our research capabilities but also positions our institution at the forefront of atmospheric studies," Jain said. The centre launched the weather balloon in the afternoon, convenor of the centre Prof Vinay Kumar said. It will provide a unique set of data as the convection layer is fully developed by this time, he said. Other centres and institutions are collecting data only in the morning and evening hours, Kumar said, adding that the balloon will ascend upwards at a rate of five metres per second up to a maximum height of 40 km. The Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences, a premier facility within the university, has been instrumental in providing the state-of-the-art infrastructure and resources for such pioneering projects, the spokesperson said. He said the launch of Radio-Sonde is expected to pave the way for future research endeavours and collaborations in the field of space and atmospheric sciences. "The data collected from Radio-Sonde will be analysed and utilised for various research projects, ultimately contributing to the broader field of space sciences," he said.

The arrest, the first of a sitting chief minister, came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant protection to the <keyword id="19914482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aap" source="keywords">AAP</keyword> national convenor from any coercive action by the agency. The 55-year-old leader's arrest, amid campaign for the <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections, drew angry reactions from his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Soon after the high court order, an ED team reached his residence and carried out searches. Subsequently, he was arrested, officials said. Officials said the ED would produce the chief minister before a court here on Friday and seek his custody for interrogation. As the ED officials carried out their action inside, additional Delhi Police personnel and Rapid Action Force (RAF) and CRPF teams were deployed around the chief minister's residence. The additional deployment was made as the ED sought extra security measures in anticipation of protests by AAP supporters, sources said. A large number of AAP workers and leaders gathered near the chief minister's residence and shouted slogans against the ED action. During the day, <keyword id="19895701" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="keywords">Kejriwal</keyword> moved the Supreme Court against the high court's order denying him any relief in the matter. The ED's action is virtually a replay of what transpired during the arrest last week of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader <keyword id="19987244" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="k-kavitha" source="keywords">K Kavitha</keyword>, who is now in ED custody in the same case. The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are in judicial custody in the case. Kejriwal's name has been mentioned multiple times in the charge sheets filed by the ED. The agency has alleged that the accused were in touch with Kejriwal for formulating the excise policy that resulted in undue benefits to them in return for which they paid kickbacks to the AAP.

The strike has been called off following an agreement reached with the management of the companies at the conciliation meeting called by the Chief Labour Commissioner, Central. "Various arguments took place in the meeting from both sides and finally, the CLC advised the managements to give proper bilateral opportunity for discussion with the Associations within 15 days and take the suggestions," Trilok Singh, Convenor-North Zone, Joint Forum of Trade Unions and Association (JFTU), told IANS. He said the CLC had further advised that the managements should consider the suggestions of the associations positively. "Managements agreed to meet the Associations within 15 days for the same. In the light of these instructions from the CLC's office and the managements' decision, we have decided to defer the strike till further advices," Singh said. At the conciliation meeting, the management representative said since 2016 it has been a matter of existence for the insurers. They said even after infusion of capital by the government, the companies are struggling to survive. The companies have to maintain solvency ratio and for that, they have to cost effective. The representative of the Department of Financial Services also maintained that the insurers have to improve their performance. The strike notice was given by Girish Khurana, National Convenor, JFTY protesting against the unilateral implementation of the EY recommendations on rejigging the five reinsurers. The CLC had called the Chairman-cum-Managing Directors of the five companies, Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services, and Khurana for a conciliation meeting. The unions have been demanding the copy of the EY report for a long time. The management had given them a copy of the power point presentation made to them about the EY report. On expected lines, the <keyword id="54794" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nationalist-congress-party" source="Orion">Nationalist Congress Party</keyword> (<keyword id="42402" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ncp" source="Orion">NCP</keyword>) on Friday unanimously rejected the resignation of party's national President <keyword id="6364749" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sharad-pawar" source="Orion">Sharad Pawar</keyword> and requested him in one voice to continue in his post. The decision was taken at a meeting of the special panel set up by <keyword id="42401" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="pawar" source="Orion">Pawar</keyword> to name his successor after his dramatic announcement to step down, made on May 2, said NCP Vice-President Praful M. Patel, who is the convenor of the committee. Addressing a crowded media conference, Patel said that the panel's decision on two resolutions - rejecting the resignation and urging him to continue as party chief - shall be conveyed to Pawar for his final call in the matter. The committee also resolved that it was unable to elect another President in place of Pawar and requested him to continue till his full term ended, indicating that the party has fully united under him vis-A-vis recent speculation of a possible split. State President Jayant Patil said that the resolutions were passed in tune with everybody's expectations and now a team of senior leaders shall meet Pawar and convey it to him. The official decision was greeted with thunderous applause and cheers, tears of relief shed by some activists, singing and dancing by the party rank-and-file who had gathered outside the NCP headquarters. Patel said that the entire party has made its sentiments clear on Pawar's decision, and their views were again put forth at the committee meeting today, as the shell-shocked party grassroots workers eagerly awaited their decision. NCP junks Sharad Pawar's resignation, wants him to remain President

The All India Garment Manufacturers &amp; Vendors Association (AIGMVA) has demanded that <keyword id="44949" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="future-group" source="Orion">Future Group</keyword> owner <keyword id="44950" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kishore-biyani" source="Orion">Kishore Biyani</keyword> should pay up their dues of over Rs 200 crore pending since 2019, here on Wednesday. The AIGMVA, comprising around 350 members from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala, has warned <keyword id="49454" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="biyani" source="Orion">Biyani</keyword> of legal action if he fails to clear their dues. In a statement, the AIGMVA advisor and Trade Union Joint Action Committee (TUJAC) Convenor Vishwas <keyword id="313080" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="utagi" source="Orion">Utagi</keyword> said that the producers and suppliers had supplied the garments as ordered by Biyani's group of companies between 2019-2022. "Each manufacturer-vendor has dues of between Rs 70 crore to over Rs One crore and the total amount plus interest would be around Rs 500 crore. We want the union government and all the concerned state governments also to intervene and get the huge amount cleared immediately," Utagi demanded. A garment producer from Thane said that a majority of them had availed bank loans to fulfil the Future Group's orders then but since Biyani did not pay up their bills, now the banks are hounding the manufacturers and suppliers for default and refusing to give more loans. "Due to this, over 100,000 are directly hit and along with their families and other stakeholders, more than five lakh people are on the verge of joblessness and starvation due to Future Group, explained Utagi. He said that the Future Group was last year sold to the Reliance Group and in this deal, the poor vendors comprising the backbone MSME sector of the Indian economy have been left in the lurch. A vendor from Gujarat said that their profit margins are very thin, they have no cash surplus and they survive on a cash-credit facility with regular payments to their suppliers, employees, establishment costs, EMIs, etc. "Owing to Future Group, our 100 per cent working capital is blocked, totally paralysing our operations, and now banks are hounding us with notices of loan defaults, some members have sold off family gold, saving or even their shops or homes to clear their dues and are now practically homeless," he said. The AIGMVA and TUJAC also plan to file cases against the Future Group in different states, write to Members of Parliament and Members of Legislatures to highlight their plight and urge the government's intervention to compel Biyani to pay up the entire dues and end the matter.
