Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan along with his wife Nutan Goel received their first Covid vaccine doses on Tuesday in the Delhi Heart and Lung Institute. After receiving the vaccine he appealed that those who can afford the cost of vaccination must go to their nearest private facility to get vaccinated. He also spoke of vaccine appropriate behaviour where people must adhere to getting vaccinated and help defeat the pandemic. "After Covid appropriate behaviour, we need to affirm to vaccine appropriate behaviour. We all should come forward and help the society from allaying the menace of <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">Covid-19</keyword>," he said. "Vaccine would not just save you from the disease but also your closed ones," Vardhan added. Vardhan also said that the percentage of post-vaccination effects are just 0.00004 of the total vaccination and one should not be afraid of the minor ones that come depending upon age. Meanwhile, he also thanked those who got in the queue of registration on the first day of phase three Covid vaccination. "The response was overwhelming and it shows our resolve to defeat the pandemic. I appeal every eligible beneficiary to come forward for the vaccination," he added. Vaccines are being provided free of charge at the government health facilities and on a payment basis in the private health facilities. Around 10,000 hospitals empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY and 687 hospitals under CGHS can be used by states as Covid Vaccination Centres (CVCs). The phase three of Covid vaccination covering 27 crore of population aged above 60 and those above 45 with comorbidities started from Monday. 'Those who can afford should get vaccinated in private hospitals' says Health Minister

New Delhi, <keyword id="149108" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Biotech">Bharat Biotech</keyword> has claimed that amongst all the <keyword id="24209" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="vaccine">vaccine</keyword> platforms such as an mRNA-based vaccine, DNA-based vaccine, vector-based vaccine, or live attenuated vaccines, etc., the inactivated vaccines being developed by it for Covid 19 are safest, and hence, the adverse reactions are lesser. In a series of frequently asked questions (FAQs) for its trials, Bharat Biotech said BBV-152 is a whole-virion inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Amongst all the vaccine platforms such as an mRNA-based vaccine, DNA-based vaccine, vector-based vaccine, or live attenuated vaccines, etc., the inactivated vaccines are safest, and hence, the adverse reactions are lesser. It said about 755 <keyword id="9696" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Participants">participants</keyword> have been vaccinated in phase 1 &amp; 2 clinical trials. No <keyword id="2304765" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Serious-Adverse-Events">serious adverse events</keyword> have been reported to be related to the vaccine in phase 1 and 2 clinical trials. It said vaccination with BBV-152B may protect the participants only after 14-days post-second dose of vaccination. Hence, the participants should follow the below precautions to avoid <keyword id="10467734" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sarscov-2-infection">SARSCoV-2 infection</keyword> up to 14-days post-second dose of vaccination. Since the participants are vaccinated before the results of the RT-PCR and the ELISA tests are known, there is a chance that the participants with asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection may enter the study, and later show <keyword id="8889783" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Covid-19-symptoms">Covid-19 symptoms</keyword>. Also, the participants who are very recently infected with SARS-CoV-2just before the first dose of vaccination, and have viral loads below the limit of detection (LoD) of the <keyword id="3652596" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RTPCR">RTPCR</keyword> test kit, may not be detected by RT-PCR, and later show the Covid-19 symptoms. Since there is also an equal chance of getting a placebo for every participant, 50% of the participant will get the placebo, and they may get SARS-CoV-2 infection/Covid-19 any time after vaccination. Bharat Biotech said in the event of successful evidence of efficacy detected during the interim analysis, participants who received placebo may be provided with vaccination at the end of the study, after getting due approval from the regulatory authorities. It said that whenever a vaccine get approval first Health care workers, Front line workers will receive vaccine. It will take at least 6 months for elderly (more than 65 years to receive the vaccine). It will take a minimum of 6-12 months for a person under the ages of 60 to receive a vaccine, due to limited supply. "If you participate in this trial, this vaccine will most likely get licensed within a few months. And if you received a placebo, we will contact you and give you the vaccine, thus giving you priority access to the vaccine (even if you are below 60 years)," it said. Inactivated vaccines are safest with lesser adverse reactions: Bharat Biotech

The Phase III human clinical trials of Covaxin began mid-November, targeted to be done in 26,000 volunteers across India. Suchitra Ella, Joint Managing Director of Bharat Biotech termed this as an unprecedented vaccine trial ever in India. She said they were overwhelmed with the steady rise in participation. "We sincerely thank all the 13,000 volunteers across the country for their support in enabling us to bring out a safe and efficacious Indian vaccine for <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword>. This pro-vaccine public health volunteerism is a morale booster for us to achieve our milestone target of 26,000 soon." This is India's first and only Phase III efficacy study for a COVID-19 vaccine, and the largest phase III efficacy trial ever conducted for any vaccine in India. Covaxin has been evaluated in approximately 1,000 subjects in Phase I and Phase II clinical trials, with promising safety and immunogenicity results, with acceptance in international peer reviewed scientific journals, the Hyderabad-based company said. It is a one-stop shop for travellers, offering vacation packages as well as visa facilitation, tours, sightseeing, shows, and events. Proceeds from the fresh issue will be utilised towards strategic investments, acquisitions, and inorganic growth, customer acquisition and retention, technology, and other organic growth initiatives and general corporate purposes. The company claims to be India’s largest corporate travel services provider in terms of number of corporate clients. It is the third largest online travel company in India among key online travel agency (OTA) players in terms of gross booking revenue and operating revenue for FY23. The company’s revenues have been growing steadily for the last three years and has turned profitable in FY23, after cutting its losses progressively over two years. At the upper price band, the company is valued at a market-cap to sales ratio of 5.8 times as per its FY23 earnings. Its peer EaseMyTrip is valued at 15.7 times, as per Anand Rathi Securities. “We believe that for Yatra there is a scope of business improvement on the back of industry tailwinds, brand recall and business scalability, resulting in expansion of the EBITDA margin from here on,” the report said, adding that it recommends a ‘subscribe’ rating for the long term.

India now has a fifth vaccine. Johnson & Johnson's single-dose COVID-19 shot gets government nod.

New Delhi, In a major development, India on Saturday recorded 25,152 new coronavirus cases and 347 deaths, taking the total number of infected people since January past the one crore-mark, according to <keyword id="4585792" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-ministry-of-health-and-family-welfare">the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare</keyword>'s data. The country crossed the grim milestone almost eleven months after the first case was reported on January 30 in Thrissur district of Kerala. Since then, the country has recorded 10,004,599 coronavirus cases and 14,51,36 deaths. The number of infections had crossed the 1 million-mark on July 17; 2 million on August 7; 3 million on August 23; 4 million on September 5; 5 million on September 16; 6 million on September 28; 7 million on October 11; 8 million on October 29; and 90 lakh on November 20. While it took over five months to touch 1 million, it amassed 6 million with August and October. India has been recording the second-highest numbers of coronavirus cases in the world since August this year, following the US, which had crossed the milestone of one crore infections on November 9. India also fought through a massive wave of infection in September when the pandemic peaked and recorded a highest single-day spike of 97,894 cases on September 16. Number of cases have drastically come down since. Notably the recovery rate is 95.46%, while the death rate is 1.45%. The <keyword id="9281338" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="active-caseload">active caseload</keyword> is also below four lakh for the last 12 days. India is one of the top countries with the highest recovery rate globally. According to <keyword id="3284300" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Health-Ministry">the Health Ministry</keyword>, the chasm between active cases and recovered cases is continuously widening. As many as 95,50,712 people have recovered while 3,08,751 remain currently active. A total of 16,00,90,514 samples have been tested for <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">Covid-19</keyword> till date. Of these, 11,71,868 samples were tested on Friday, <keyword id="1256547" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Indian-Council-of-Medical-Research">the Indian Council of Medical Research</keyword> (ICMR) said. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with 18,88,767 cases till date. Over 76% of the daily new cases are being reported by 10 states and union territory and in the random order they include -- Kerala, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Over 75% of the deaths are being reported from Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. There is, however, light at the end of the tunnel as India has eight Covid-19 vaccine candidates, including three indigenous vaccines, under different stages of clinical trials which could be ready for authorization in near future. It includes AstraZeneca and Oxford university developed and Serum Institute of India manufactured Covishield; Covaxin by Bharat Biotech Limited; ZyCoV-D by Zydus Cadila and Russian vaccine candidate Sputnik-V. The list also contains NVX-CoV2373 by SII, HGCO19 by Geneva, and two unlabeled vaccines -- Recombinant Protein Antigen-based vaccine by Biological E Limited and Inactivated rabies vector platform by Bharat Biotech. The central government plans to vaccinate nearly 30 crore people during the first phase of vaccination. It will be offered to one crore healthcare workers along with 2 crore frontline and essential workers and 27 crore elderly, mostly above the age of 50 years with comorbidities such as diabetes, heart or liver ailments.
