This summer, commuters in the NCR, willing to ditch metros and buses, will have several choices to book their cabs. Apart from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/heres-who-is-benefitting-from-ola-uber-drivers-strike/articleshow/57187851.cms">Ola and Uber</a>, they will have two new cab aggregator apps. This would also benefit them in terms of money, owing to the price war between these apps.

Cabby, the cab aggregator app to be launched today, has been developed by Sahil Arora, a seventeen-year-old school dropout from Gurgaon. The app will have 25,000 operational cabs in NCR, following which it would move to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/bengaluru-feel-relieved-as-ola-anduber-drivers-call-off-strike/articleshow/57221582.cms">Bengaluru</a>.

 Cabby would charge a base fare of Rs 37.50 for the first 2 km, followed by Rs 12.5 per km. Arora told ET that this is actually very competitive, and the fare would be lesser than what <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> and Uber charge.

The second cab-aggregator app to be launched today is from 74 BC Technologies, operational from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/UberMOTO-enters-Gurgaon/articleshow/51603369.cms">Gurgaon</a> where it is known for the bike taxi aggregator Baxi. 
 
Baxi is now launching cab services in seven cities including Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru. Acting as a technology provider for the app, it will be available free of cost for cab drivers. 
 
"Baxi will not take any commission from the drivers to use their technology platform," said Ashutosh Johri, co-founder of Baxi and an IIT Delhi alumnus. It would charge a base fare of Rs 50, followed by Rs 9 per km. Having around 1,000 cabs in its fleet, it would also have Re 1/minute wait charges.

Two new apps to take on Ola and Uber in NCR

Travelling within the city is a bane for all especially those who travel long distances for work. While women are increasing joining the workforce, their daily commute is still a tall task. Delhi-Mumbai expressway: The proposed project may be a threat to tiger species in India

The ban on plying of 27,000 diesel-run taxis came into effect today even as its real impact is likely to be felt only tomorrow, the first working day after the imposition of restriction. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=supreme+court&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Supreme Court</a> yesterday refused to extend the April 30 deadline fixed for the diesel-run taxis for their conversion into <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=CNG&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">CNG</a> mode. 
 
Authorities in various locations today impounded diesel-run cabs plying on the local routes in the national capital. 
 
 
 
"Instructions have been issued to concerned authorities, including transport department, to impound diesel-run taxis plying in Delhi-NCR," said a senior government official. 
 According to <keyword id="66" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword> transport department, about 60,000 taxis are registered in the national capital and of them 27,000 are running on diesel. 
 
Around 2,000 diesel-run taxis had converted into CNG mode in the last two months. 
 
The SC order is not applicable on cabs having All India Permits but most of the diesel cabs ply on local routes. The ban will essentially bring down the availability of cabs in the capital. 
 
"As per rule, taxis having All India permit are required to cover a distance of around 200 km. Taxis having All India permits cannot ply from one point to other point inside Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad," the official said. 
 Cabs going off roads may inconvenience thousands of commuters as many <keyword id="3344947" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="diesel-taxis">diesel taxis</keyword> ferry people from Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad. 
 
"We can't keep on extending the time. We are not extending it now and not going to make any exceptions. There is technology available, you convert," a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur had yesterday said while rejecting the plea that it would affect livelihood of poor drivers. 
 
The bench, also comprising Justices A K Sikri and R Banumathi, had on March 31, extended the deadline till yesterday for conversion of all diesel taxis to CNG.

Customers will be able to pre-book seats on their preferred route by choosing the 'Uber Shuttle' option on the <keyword id="1999454" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uber-app" source="Orion">Uber app</keyword>. The formal launch of Uber Shuttle, a bus service tailored for daily commuting needs, brings to fruition a pilot programme that was initially tested in Delhi-NCR and has been operational in Kolkata since last year under an MoU with the West Bengal government, as per the statement. Commuters will be able to pre-book seats up to a week in advance, track the live location and route of the bus, and view its expected time of arrival (ETA) -- all through the Uber app, it said. Each shuttle vehicle will be able to accommodate 19-50 passengers and will be operated by local fleet partners using Uber's technology.

<ul><li>Over half of <keyword id="4970209" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="genzs" source="Orion">GenZs</keyword> and millennials surveyed say they prefer ‘only office’ working models.</li><li>Gen X Plus, over 50, crave for flexibility with work, as they miss work-life balance.</li><li>High cost of living in cities, reverse migration and long commutes are challenges that employees cite about working from offices. </li></ul>One of India’s largest companies TCS has recently reversed its pandemic-time WFH policy and asked its employees to come back to work. The reason? It wants teams to work together, co-exist and especially new hires who have never seen ‘office’ to learn from their colleagues. It looks like employees are half-way there too, and miss being a part of teams. “Collaborating with their teams, socializing and bonding with colleagues, and having in-person meetings with clients are among the top reasons why employees want to go back to the office,” says a report by Awfis and Savills India. The generation that’s most eager to come to office are the GenZs and millennials. Over half of them surveyed prefer an ‘only office’ working model. This preference among the younger workforce might be linked to the significance they place on interpersonal interactions in the workplace, the report says. “Despite the common belief that the younger workforce seeks remote isolation, our research uncovers a significant desire for the indispensable impact of human interaction in a physical workplace. In a digital age, it is heartening to observe the enduring significance of the physical office as a center for fostering creativity, innovation, and shared learning experiences,” said Sumit Lakhani, deputy CEO of Awfis, a co-working space network. GenX Plus respondents, i.e. those over 50 years of age, veered towards hybrid or office-dominated work models as they crave for flexibility, the report adds. Metro office want them back In the survey, 66% respondents said that they have been mandated to go to office. But half of them also said that they prefer it that way. The location of the office also matters when it comes to calling people back-to-office. In Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, 71% of employees are required to work exclusively from the office in contrast to 63% in other cities. “In the top three cities, the only-office model is more prevalent, indicating a higher emphasis on in-office work. Other cities are more likely to adopt only-remote and remote-dominant hybrid work models, highlighting a greater preference for remote work or a mix of remote and office work,” the report added. Reverse migration and commutes The shift from work-from-home to back-to-office is riddled with challenges. Not only has a lot of the workforce shifted to their hometowns, a few have gotten used to managing work and personal life – a habit that would be hard to shake off. While going back-to-office will relieve people from the fatigue of working from home, it also means dealing with early morning traffic and more. As many as 31% of respondents considered commuting to work as their biggest concern, while 26% of respondents considered the high cost of living to be their primary challenge. For 16% of them, relocating from their hometown is a challenge. And, for 15% poor work-life balance to be a reason to not return to office. The higher costs are pinching Gen Zs the most as they face the after-effects of reverse migration. Gen-Xers say that poor-work life balance as a reason, early millennials believe that inability to focus will creep in as they work from office only.

Apart from making Indians want to buy a property rather than rent, the pandemic is making home buyers yearn for a ‘dedicated space to work’ in their homes, as per a survey conducted by property consultant CBRE. The need for workspace came in second in home selection criteria as per the survey, with the first being quality of property with relation to health and safety. As many as 52% of the survey respondents said that they are willing to move for better quality properties and surroundings. In fact, price of the property came in as the fifth most important criterion, after sustainability of the property and transportation infrastructure. With 69% of respondents stating that they would prefer to work at least three days from office, most of them also seek a dedicated area to support remote working in the community. “With the pandemic having raised the importance of health and safety, the demand for professional property management services, particularly in apartment buildings, has been on the rise. There is also an increasing need for dedicated office space at home as hybrid working becomes more widespread,” said the CBRE report titled ‘Voices from India: How will people live, work and shop in the future?’. The quality and surroundings of the home is also now more important with better outdoor spaces, smart home technologies, quality of retail and leisure in the catchment area etc. “Further, families are now laying equal emphasis on a property’s quality and surroundings as on the unit itself. Therefore, attractive and thoughtful interior designs, well-planned outdoor areas and surroundings must now be complemented with remote working infrastructure,” said Anshuman Magazine, chairman &amp; CEO - India, South-East Asia, Middle East &amp; Africa, CBRE. Looking to move – to their own home The survey found that most of the millennials and GenZs are looking to move to a new home in the next two years – which is 44% vs 31% in the previous two years. According to the report, “70% of millennial respondents now prefer to buy over rent, a complete reversal of the trend revealed by ‘generation rent’ in our last survey. While India has always been an economy where home buying is preferred over renting, the uncertainty around the pandemic has further accelerated the need for homeownership and security.” Yet, 40% of GenZs who are in the 18 to 25 age group, prefer to rent. Within that sphere, 20% prefer private rental accommodation while 17% prefer shared accommodation or student housing. “Since this is the age group that will drive rental accommodation, developers must outline strategies to understand and tap demand well in time,” said Magazine. But where will they live? With 75% respondents preferring a one-way commute time of not more than 30 minutes, most of them prefer to live around city centres. The only exception is Gen Xers – age group of 42-57 who prefer remote locations. However, as most cities swell to the seams, the definition of a true city centre continues to evolve. “Most leading cities, especially Delhi- NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune are witnessing the emergence of suburbs that in many ways redefine the erstwhile city centre,” says CBRE. Millennials want the security of their own roof over heads, finds CBRE

As a part of the agreement, Tata Motors will deliver 10,000 XPRES T EVs to this Deepika Padukone-backed all-electric cab service company. BluSmart Electric Mobility had previously ordered 3,500 XPRESS T EV in October last year and the current order is an addition to this. The vehicle — which was launched last July exclusively for fleet customers — would be used across the country for commuters. It packs a high energy density battery of 21.5 kilowatt-hour (kWh) and 16.5 kWh and can be charged from 0- 80% in 90 mins and 110 mins, respectively. “Our XPRES-T EV fleet offers an optimal battery size along with a captive fast charging solution and has already set benchmarks in its category. Tata Motors is constantly working towards educating and enhancing the adoption of electric mobility in India and we hope that more people join us in this journey as we mobilize the nation,” Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. Tata Motors — which manufactures TATA Nexon EV and Tata Tigor EV — claims to be leading the e-mobility wave in India with a commanding market share of 87%. It sold 25,000 EVs in the fiscal year 2022. BluSmart Electric Mobility was founded in 2019 by Anmol Jaggi, Puneet Singh Jaggi and Punit Goyal. The company has raised $67 million to date from marquee investors Alteria Capital, Stride Ventures and BlackSoil as investors. The three-year-old startup aised <a href="https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/aftermarket/blusmart-raises-usd-50-million-in-extended-series-a-round-to-rapidly-scale-its-e-fleet/91758760">$50 million </a>last month to expand across Delhi NCR and other metro cities. The company claims to have covered 50 million clean kilometers and delivered over 1.6 million zero-emission rides. “We are building a large-scale integrated EV mobility ecosystem in India - from the country's largest fully-electric ride hailing service to the largest network of EV charging super hubs. With the increasing fleet size we are leading India on the path to reliable, sustainable and zero-emissions mobility and also creating more inclusive and economic opportunities for driver partners,” said Anmol Singh Jaggi, co-founder at BluSmart Electric Mobility.
