According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), 3.39 million devices were shipped in India in Q2 2024, with all three categories of desktops, notebooks and workstations recording good growth. In Q2 2024, desktops recorded a 5.9% year-on-year growth, notebooks recorded a 7.4% year-on-year growth and workstations recorded a 12.4% year-on-year growth. “Vendors kickstarted the back-to-school/ college campaigns, and good demand was seen in the e-tail channel as well during online sales. Vendors stocked the channel to prepare for upcoming Independence Day sales, which gave a healthy growth in consumer PC shipments,” said Bharath Shenoy, research manager, IDC India &amp; South Asia. Indian PC market records 7.1% growth in Q2 2024, HP leads with nearly a third market share

In a bid to bolster the safety and security of <keyword id="19989657" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-payments" source="keywords">digital payments</keyword> and enhance regulatory frameworks, the Reserve Bank of India (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) unveiled a series of proposals aimed at fostering innovation, inclusivity, and efficiency in the financial ecosystem. These initiatives, announced by RBI Governor <keyword id="19913110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shaktikanta-das" source="keywords">Shaktikanta Das</keyword>, signify the central bank's commitment to fortifying India's digital infrastructure and promoting a conducive environment for financial transactions. One of the key announcements made by Governor Das pertained to the establishment of a Digital Payments <keyword id="21971766" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="intelligence-platform" source="keywords">Intelligence Platform</keyword>. This platform, leveraging advanced technologies, aims to mitigate payment <keyword id="19898489" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fraud" source="keywords">fraud</keyword> risks and enhance the safety of digital transactions. According to the annual report released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on May 30, there was a significant surge in the number of financial frauds reported by banks, increasing by 166 per cent year-on-year in the financial year 2023-24 to reach 36,075 cases. This figure starkly contrasts with the 13,564 cases reported in the previous fiscal year, FY23. Despite the notable rise in the number of fraud cases, there was a substantial decrease in the total amount involved in these incidents. The amount of money associated with total bank frauds plummeted by 46.7 per cent year-on-year in the financial year 2023-24, totaling Rs 13,930 crore. In comparison, the amount recorded in FY23 stood at Rs 26,127 crore. RBI has proposed a revision of the limit of bulk deposits for Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) and Small Finance Banks (SFBs). This move, aimed at enhancing flexibility and aligning with evolving market dynamics, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the banking sector. Currently, banks have the discretion to offer differential rates of interest on bulk deposits based on their requirements and Asset-Liability Management (ALM) projections. The existing bulk deposit limit for SCBs (excluding Regional Rural Banks) and SFBs, set at 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 2 crore and above,' was established in 2019. However, following a comprehensive review, the RBI has proposed to revise this definition to 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 3 crore and above' for SCBs and SFBs. In addition to the proposed revision for SCBs and SFBs, the RBI has also suggested defining the bulk deposit limit for Local Area Banks (LABs) as 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 1 crore and above,' mirroring the criteria applicable to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs). RBI has also unveiled plans to rationalize export and import regulations under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999. This initiative, driven by the imperative of progressive liberalization and operational flexibility, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for international trade and investment. By eliminating redundancies, enhancing clarity, and reducing procedural complexities, the RBI aims to promote ease of doing business for all stakeholders involved in cross-border trade. The RBI aims to streamline and simplify operational procedures related to export and import transactions, thereby reducing administrative burdens and enhancing efficiency for businesses and authorized dealer banks. By aligning regulations with international best practices and market realities, the RBI seeks to create a business-friendly environment conducive to fostering trade and investment growth. Simplified regulations will facilitate smoother trade transactions, encouraging businesses to explore new markets and expand their global footprint. While promoting ease of doing business, the RBI remains committed to ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and safeguarding the integrity of the financial system. The proposed rationalization will uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and risk management in cross-border transactions. As part of the process, the RBI plans to publish draft regulations and directions on its official website by the end of June 2024. In a bid to enhance the convenience and efficiency of digital payments, RBI has unveiled plans to expand the e-mandate framework to include recurring payments for Fastag, National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), and similar services. This initiative, aimed at modernizing payment systems and promoting financial inclusion, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering innovation and leveraging technology to meet evolving consumer needs. The current UPI Lite service permits customers to load their UPI Lite wallets with up to Rs 2000/- and conduct transactions of up to Rs 500 from the wallet. To enhance the seamless usage of UPI Lite for customers, and in response to feedback from various stakeholders, it is suggested to integrate UPI Lite into the e-mandate framework. This integration would introduce an auto-replenishment feature for UPI Lite wallets, automatically refilling the wallet balance when it falls below a predetermined threshold set by the customer. Since the funds remain under the customer's control (transferring from their account to the wallet), it is proposed to eliminate the need for additional authentication or pre-debit notifications. Relevant guidelines pertaining to this proposal will be issued shortly. RBI has embarked on a mission to foster innovation and transformation in the financial sector with the launch of its third edition of the global hackathon, "HARBINGER 2024 - Innovation for Transformation." It would feature two primary themes: 'Zero Financial Frauds' and 'Being Divyang Friendly.' Solutions aimed at bolstering the safety and security of digital transactions, with a specific emphasis on identifying, preventing, and combating financial frauds, will be solicited. While HP continued to lead in both desktop and notebook categories, its decline in shipments was due to delay in shipments and reduced enterprise orders. Dell and Acer both reported a nearly 30% increase in shipments year-on-year. Dell shipped 5.37 lakh units in Q1 2024, up from 4.17 lakh units in Q1 2023. India's PC market grows by 2.6% in Q1 2024, recording third consecutive quarter with growth

<ul><li><keyword id="220321" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lenovo-India">Lenovo India</keyword> is targeting a yearly growth of at least 30% this financial year despite the economic slowdown.</li><li>Rahul Agarwal, CEO of Lenovo India, told Business Insider that the slowdown has only resulted in a minor dip in its consumer business while the company’s commercial business continues to grow.</li><li>Lenovo is expanding its portfolio beyond PCs with IoT and smart devices to help it grow even has the PC stagnates. </li></ul>Unlike many other companies in India, the world’s largest PC maker — Lenovo — is eyeing 30-40% revenue growth this financial year. The company which has an enterprise and a consumer business, has two different stories to tell. Its commercial market is growing at a healthy double digit rate, while its consumer business however has shown a minor contraction of 3-4%. This too, is not a result of the ongoing slowdown in India. "It’s too early to draw a large trend. Because if I look at the last 5-6 years, the market has been fairly stagnant, so if there’s a minus -2% or -3% — that happened four years ago as well," Lenovo India’s CEO and Managing Director, Rahul Agarwal, told Business Insider India. Upgrade cycle The real challenge they face is not lack of interest but that any movement they see in the laptop market is purely a replacement of devices. It means the market is not gaining any new consumers. "The people who are spending, let's say ₹40,000 rupees, their life cannot be without a laptop. Once you get used to a laptop, then in another 4-5 years, you will need a new laptop," he explains. "The challenge in the PC market is that the growth is happening on the revenue front, which means people are spending more and more money buying the same number of laptops," says Agarwal. In these circumstances, Lenovo has a two-pronged strategy for fast growth. The first part of Lenovo’s plan to grow its revenue is maintaining its traditional stronghold, which includes its consumer and enterprise business, large government deals and SMB businesses. At the same time, it is also planning to expand into new categories. Beating the slowdown According to him, the slowdown is primarily focused on rural India and the demand for PC’s in that segment is fairly low since the company’s consumers are mostly located in the urban and semi-urban areas. "So, I wouldn’t call it (the drop in consumer demand) a major trend," says Agarwal. Yet, from here on, Lenovo is eyeing growth across these segments and more. The ThinkSmart Hub, for instance, is an all-in-one purpose built device to simply video conferencing. Previously, the company launched consumer-facing smart products like clocks and home assistants focused on providing a video interface. Lenovo is also expanding its service portfolio simultaneously to better serve its clients. The company is now offering stand-by laptops to consumers that submit their devices to be fixed. It’s also providing round the clock service to better serve its customers. "There are two or three streams which are really helping us grow despite things not looking so great," explains Agarwal. Dell launches new range of PCs, laptops and monitors

Driven primarily by lockdown-induced <keyword id="6358993" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="demand">demand</keyword>, shipments of gaming PCs and <keyword id="731335" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Monitors">monitors</keyword> grew 26.8 per cent year-over-year in 2020 to 55 million units, according to a report from industry tracker <keyword id="668267" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="International-Data-Corporation">International Data Corporation</keyword> (IDC). <keyword id="2426328" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="gaming-notebooks">Gaming notebooks</keyword> remained the biggest volume driver through a year marked by home restrictions, according to IDC's <keyword id="11042978" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Worldwide-Quarterly-Gaming-Tracker">Worldwide Quarterly Gaming Tracker</keyword>. Despite being affected by display panel shortages through much of the year, gaming notebooks grew a record 26.9 per cent in 2020 as consumers appreciated their versatility for both work and play. In parallel with PCs, gaming monitors also reached new heights in 2020, growing more than 77 per cent compared to 2019 with shipments reaching 14.3 million units. Aside from the sheer volume, 2020 brought other milestones that could alter future trends. North America and Western Europe combined overtook Asia/Pacific (including Japan) as the <keyword id="2085715" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="largest-market">largest market</keyword> for the first time, largely due to lockdown-induced demand. "Unfortunately, the supply of gaming PCs has tumbled recently and while crypto-mining may be partially to blame, the sheer demand for these products and growth in the player base is more likely the root cause of the shortages," said Jitesh Ubrani, Research Manager for IDC's Worldwide Mobile and Consumer Device Trackers. "New GPUs, new games, added support for ray-tracing, and the growth in demand have also led to an increase in average selling prices during 2020 and will likely remain at these elevated levels in 2021." Looking ahead, IDC expects the gaming market to remain a bright spot after the overall PC market returns to more normal replacement cycles after the pandemic. While gaming desktops will continue to fade in favour of notebooks, their demise will be more than made up for by notebooks and monitors, IDC said. For example, IDC expects gaming monitor volume will exceed that of gaming desktops for the first time in 2021. The gaming monitor market is expected to see a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 10 per cent, said IDC. Adding that it expects this momentum to carry forward as global volumes reach 72.9 million in 2025 with a CAGR of 5.8 per cent. "Much like the notebook market, monitors also faced panel component shortages and surging demand," said Jay Chou, Research Manager for IDC's Worldwide PC Monitor Tracker. Gaming PCs and monitor shipments worldwide grew 26.8% in 2020

<keyword id="13722" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lenovo">Lenovo</keyword> PCs and laptops would now be offered with interest-free <keyword id="6357050" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="EMI">EMI</keyword> option, an initiative to increase its market share. The 'Start up with Lenovo' initiative was being rolled out across Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, company Managing Director <keyword id="8992" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rahul-Agarwal">Rahul Agarwal</keyword> told reporters. 

	He said the company had earlier conducted "successful" pilot programme of the initiative in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Gujarat in the backdrop of the 10 per cent computer penetration in the country. 
 

	Under the initiative, Lenovo would offer a wide range of 'fully loaded' computers and laptops starting at Rs 24,990 with interest-free EMI, the company said. 
 

	Lenovo has tied up with Bajaj FinServ to offer nine EMIs, and it will involve a processing fee of Rs 749, the company said adding it has roped in Tata Docomo for providing free internet dongles as part of the initiative. 
 

	The initiative was keeping in with the Centre's Digital India effort, Agarwal said. 
 

	Asked about the 'commercial interest' behind the initiative, he said "there is always a commercial angle." 
 

	The 10 per cent computer penetration rate in the country was 'unfair' and there will also be benefits for competitors from Lenovo's initiative, he said adding "we need to have a large heart." 
 

	"The category will grow and if we give good products we will get a lion's share of that," Agarwal said when asked how this initiative will help the company's market share which was 18 per cent in Q1 of 2015.

Interest-free EMI option for Lenovo PCS and laptops in the market now

New Delhi, Feb 13 () The country's PC market that includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations, notched over 18 per cent year-on-year growth in 2019, with shipments reaching 11 million units, according to International Data Corporation (IDC) India. 2019 also turned out to be the biggest year for PC shipments in the last six years, it said adding that the growth was largely propelled by the government-driven education projects and upgrade purchases for Windows 10. "The India traditional PC market inclusive of desktops, notebooks, and workstations finished 2019 with an impressive 18.1 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) growth, shipping 11 million units during the year," it said citing data from IDC Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker 4Q19. The last quarter of the year also saw a healthy 16.5 per cent y-o-y growth with 2.3 million shipments, primarily helped by the strong 26.5 per cent annual growth in the commercial segment. "Also, after a y-o-y decline for five straight quarters, the consumer segment saw growth of 4.6 per cent y-o-y in 4Q19 shipping close to 950,000 units," it added. The notebook PCs, which are becoming thinner and lighter sporting enhanced mobility features, are increasingly getting preference from the consumers, education sub verticals, and enterprises. "Notebook PCs saw highest-ever annual shipments with a 67.7 per cent category share in 2019. The desktop category also witnessed a 5.7 per cent y-o-y growth largely driven by the refresh buying from banking and financial institutions and touched a 30.7 per cent category share for the year," the IDC report said. PC market logs six-year high with 11 mn shipments in 2019: IDC India

New Delhi, Nov 14 () The PC market in India grew 15.8 per cent year-on-year with shipment touching 3.1 million units in September quarter, research firm IDC said on Thursday.
The shipment volume, which includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations, stood at 2.7 million units in the July-September 2018 period, IDC said.
"This growth was mainly driven by the second phase of shipments to the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (ELCOT) under its ongoing initiative of free distribution of laptops in the state. Also, as Windows 7 is near to its scheduled end in early 2020, corporate and enterprise users accelerated their upgrades to Windows 10," it added.
Lenovo led the tally with 28.5 per cent share in September 2019 quarter, followed by HP (26.4 per cent), Dell Technologies (19.7 per cent), Acer (11.9 per cent) and Asus (5.3 per cent).
The commercial segment witnessed 39 per cent year-on-year growth as vendors shipped a total of 1.7 million units in the quarter under review. Excluding the ELCOT deal, the commercial segment grew 15.7 per cent annually, driven by strong traction for both desktops and notebooks.
The consumer segment, however, was down by 4.2 per cent from the same quarter a year ago. It grew 49 per cent sequentially driven by multiple mega online festivals and Diwali offers.
"As we see consumers shifting entertainment and content consumption to smartphones, PCs are becoming a conscious purchase in India. Consumers are comfortable to wait for discounts and offers while looking to buy or upgrade their PCs," IDC India Associate Research Manager Jaipal Singh said.
Looking at opportunities, branded PC gaming is a growth area in the next few quarters, he added.
"Although India's gaming market is dominated by mobile phones, gamers have already started preferring PCs for a more immersive experience as their best alternate," Singh said.
The desktop category saw a 10.6 per cent y-o-y growth in its shipments, mainly contributed by Windows 10 refresh buying from the banking sector.
Notebooks grew 18 per cent annually on the back of education deals as well as growth in both corporate and SMB segments, as these enterprises scaled up their purchases for Windows 10 migrations. SR SR BAL

However, computers sales have declined from the last quarter. According to an <keyword id="6377157" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IDC">IDC</keyword> report, the PC market grew 8.4% (year on year) in the July-September quarter in 2013, but it went down by 8.3% over second quarter of 2013 (quarter on quarter). 
 The slow adoption of special education projects in states like Uttar Pradesh and <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, and a much delayed spending in the year from the BFSI segment have largely skewed the overall growth in Q3 towards the commercial segment. As per IDC experts, the final quarter of 2013 will also see a decline in PC sales due to the legislative assembly elections across the country, as well as price hikes. 
 The report also states that <keyword id="6367983" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="HP">HP</keyword> is still the dominant player with more than 32% <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword> in the Indian PC segment, followed by <keyword id="13722" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Lenovo">Lenovo</keyword> and <keyword id="28251" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dell">Dell</keyword>.

Speaking with , Dell Technologies India Senior Director and General Manager (Client Solutions Group) Indrajit Belgundi said the company is continuing to help customers build trusted and secure mobile workspace that protects both their customers' data and their own. Dell Technologies sees demand for remote working solutions amid COVID-19 pandemic

While many PC manufacturers in India seemed upbeat about 2014, the latest report says otherwise. IDC has released a report today, which states that the Asia and Pacific <keyword id="28355" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="PC-market">PC market</keyword> has seen a decline for the eighth quarter running. The pc market declined 8% subsequently and 11% year on year in Q1, 2014. This is not good news for the PC manufacturers and allied industry, which is quite big in India. 
 
The report also says that In India, an ongoing large education project was postponed due to the upcoming elections, shaving off about half a million units from the commercial PC segment. In Thailand, political unrest continued to have an adverse impact, while in Indonesia, government funds were diverted in the run-up to the elections, resulting in lower commercial spending in PCs. 
 
“However, as these markets stabilize after the elections, IDC expects commercial activity to resume in the second half as a result of pent-up demand," says Handoko Andi, Research Manager for Client Devices at IDC Asia/Pacific. 
 
PC makers need to probably rethink their strategy to get things rolling. However, with smaller mediums such as smartphones and tablets eating into the pie of PC’s, it is a tough road ahead for PC makers to gain momentum.

"We see continued encouraging signs in customer and client activity, with consumer spending increasing and utilization of credit by our commercial customers rising," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/bank-of-americas-moynihan-on-the-economy-2015-4">Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan said in its Q1 earnings press release</a>.Intel reported an in-line quarter.
