There are several neckband speakers available online, but most of them are unreliable China-made products and only a couple of them are from known brands. But the <keyword id="13162843" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sony-srs-ns7" source="Orion">Sony SRS NS7</keyword> is different as it comes with better features, a premium build quality and Dolby Atmos support, which means any comparison would be unfair. The neckband speaker is priced at ₹24,990, and it works best with Sony Bravia XR TV models because that's the only instance when the Dolby Atmos kicks in. Before we move on with the review, it's important to make it clear that it's not something you can buy because it's cool. It's primarily meant to be used with specific Sony TVs and any other use of the neck speaker does not justify the high price. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Subhead" text="Design">Design</cmsannotation> The SRS NS7 neckband is a unique looking gadget, that would definitely make people notice it. But since it's a personal entertainment device, you're unlikely to wear it in public. It looks like a big horseshoe, meant to be rested around the neck. While it sat well around my neck, it might struggle to keep in place for someone with a tinier neck and shoulders. The inside of the collar resides the microphone, mute and power/pair button on the right-hand side, and the volume controls on the left. If you grab them as you might your collar, the controls will fall under your left and right index fingers respectively. That’s a nice bit of ergonomic design, but it comes with a learning curve as you can't see what you're pressing unless you are used to doing it. The 360-degree surround sound is solid for cinematic background, and accurate but what's missing here is the room-filling boom of gunfire or a bomb blast as experienced on a premium home theatre setup. While it would be unfair to say this neck speaker is better than headphones, I can safely say it does a good job at games like a first-person shooter where you need to know where the enemy is approaching from. It's somewhere in between good headphones and a home theatre system. Simply put, I can recommend these for gaming to those who don't like to block their ears while gaming and still don't want to miss the details. With this, you don't need to have features like passthrough or ambient mode to know what's happening around you. The downside is that despite having Atmos support, the NS7 doesn't let you use it if you are not using a Sony TV. So to get the most out of your ₹24,990 investment, you might also need to invest a lot more into a supported TV. It uses a wireless transmitter that comes in the box, which plugs into your TV with an optical-to-USB cable, and pairs to the neckband speaker wirelessly over Bluetooth. The transmitter supports TVs other than Sony Bravia XR models, but it won't minimise the audio latency as it will on Sony. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="subhead" text="Battery performance">Battery performance</cmsannotation> The Sony SRS NS7 delivers around 12 hours of battery life on medium volume and around 6 hours at maximum volume. It is important as you would want to use it while gaming where a good mic is a must. The microphone works very well. It's phenomenal to think that Sony has managed to find a way to deliver sound straight into the ear without covering them up. It's not the first to do, but it's certainly the best to do so. The downsides, however, are more than the benefits. It's as expensive as a mid-range home theatre system, which is a more sensible option if you live with a family and want to enjoy movies in groups. For music, it fails to match the precision of a headphone and the fullness of a big speaker. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Marko Costanzo is a <keyword id="3018099" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="foley-artist">Foley artist</keyword>, which means he uses objects to create sounds for characters in <keyword id="406" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Movies">movies</keyword> and TV shows, and sometimes he has to make the sounds for animals.</li><li>In "Men In Black," he had to manipulate a handheld fan so it sounded like a buzzing dragonfly, while in "Ice Age," he used a tree stump to create the sounds of a woolly mammoth stomping.</li><li>We showed Costanzo an animal clip he'd never seen before and had him come up with the proper sounds for it on the spot.</li></ul>Following is a transcript for the <keyword id="21654" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="video">video</keyword>.Narrator: What you see and hear is a tree stump wrapped in leather.<keyword id="275505" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Foley">Foley</keyword> artist Marko Costanzo of c5 Sound thought of this innovative combination when he had to make the noises for Manny the Mammoth in "Ice Age." It helped capture the sound of a massive creature stomping on the ground. Marko needed to make sure he got an object that accurately captured not only this creature's weight, but also the pattern in which a creature of this size would walk, in this case, heel to toe.Foley artists use objects to create sounds based on a character's movements and interactions.Marko Costanzo: We have to make sounds that embellish their movements.Narrator: Marko's done Foley sounds for movies like "Goodfellas," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and "The Big Lebowski." But mimicking the sounds of animals isn't as easy as woofing or purring.[Marko purring] Though he can do that, too.Picking the right sounds involves carefully examining both objects and surfaces. Take horses galloping, for instance. A pair of plastic coconut shells could certainly do the trick. But when it came time to make the horse sounds for a movie like 2010's "True Grit" remake...Marko: I used rocks, because you could hear the sound of the impact. When you're using coconuts, yeah, you might hear that little kuh-kuh-kuh, but when I use a rock, I hear boom, boom, boom, boom. If you ever hear him ride a horse, you're hearing that 2,000, 5,000-pound animal on every footstep, going, boom, boom, boom, boom.Narrator: While the plastic shells might work on cobblestones, Marko realized you can barely hear them in dirt, the surface the horses in "True Grit" were most likely to tread upon.Marko: I'm not gonna use the typical coconuts, because it's, there's no weight, and you don't even really hear the, that cavity sound. These will be the medium size. Immediately, you can hear a little bit more of the bottom end, right? And my favorite are the rocks. [rocks thumping] You're getting a low-end thud right along with your crunchy... [rocks thumping and rustling]Narrator: An animal's size is a big factor, especially when that animal is tiny. Marko did the sounds for the dragonfly in the opening of 1997's "Men in Black."Marko: We were really playing with different kinds of paper and cards. I remember one of the ideas was we'll put a card in a bicycle spoke and spin it, and you hear the duh-duh-duh-duh-duh. And everyone's like, yeah, great, but you hear the metal spoke. And then the question was, well, how do we do that and not get a sound like metal? How do you get it to sound organic like an animal?Narrator: Marko found the right sound using handheld fans. With the fans, Marko could more easily adjust the dragonfly's variation in movement by putting his finger on the blade. [fan buzzing]A different challenge arose when working on "Marley &amp; Me," which chronicles a dog's life, from puppy to old age. Marko had to figure out how to make the dog sound different at different ages. So it wasn't just about size, but how an animal grows over time.Marko: I have two different-size nails on them. These are the smaller ones, and, you can see, there's bigger ones on that side. And they sound distinctively different. Listen to this one. These are the smaller ones. [gloves clicking and thumping] Now, I would flip these around. I'm not gonna flip right now. [gloves clicking and thumping]Narrator: Here's a younger, more excited dog. [gloves clicking and thumping] And the same dog at a much older age. [gloves clicking and thumping]And for some scenes, Marko had to layer a track for the dog's collar. For a bigger dog, Marko used a heavy chain. And a smaller dog has a smaller collar, so you just hear the tags. Marko: So, every time they're moving their head. [tags clinking and rattling] You think they're so cute, oh, yeah, but they're nonstop noise.Narrator: It's not just a one-sound-fits-all type of deal. For gigantic animals, like that mammoth from "Ice Age," Marko had to create multiple sounds and then have them layered to truly capture the physical scope of the character. [wood thumping]Marko: When we went to do a second track, we picked up a bunch of grass. And at the same time, we rolled this.Narrator: Then he added some pebbles and twigs to capture things the mammoth might be stomping on. [thumping and rustling] There are plenty of other considerations that go through the mind of a Foley artist when making animal sounds, like how many animals there are.Marko: If I was doing a single bird and it was flying, I'd be like: [feathers rustling] In rhythm. [feathers rustling] Fast. [feathers rustling] Taking off. [feathers rustling] A flock of birds, I wouldn't even use feathers. I would probably use gloves for that. [gloves rustling and thumping]Narrator: When it comes to eating, Marko might need to think about whether the food is wet or dry. [crunching] Or whether the animal has a snout. For example, if it's a horse chewing celery...Marko: I put my hands up to here because you get a little bit of a cavity there. And it's those cavities that sell the sound.Narrator: On some occasions, if a digital library won't do, he'll also have to do the vocals himself. [squeaking] To see a Foley artist's thought process about animal sounds and action, we put Marko to the test by showing him a stock-video clip with no sound that he had never seen before.Marko: Adorable. Oh, boy, claws. Ay-yay-yay, this thing's... [laughing] All right, that's definitely AstroTurf. We've got a few tracks to do. 'Cause you've got the claw on the ground, you've got the claw on the thing, you've got the teeth on the mat, you've got the body movement, the fur.Narrator: For the mat, Marko found one in his studio with very similar material.Marko: We're gonna do the paws first. And for paws, we just need a pair of leather gloves. [thumping gloves]Narrator: For the lion's teeth, he used this small block of wood with nails drilled into it, which he created for the tiger in "Life of Pi."Marko: Almost there. Gotta work on sync. [machine beeping] [wood scratching]Narrator: He brought back the wood block for the cub's scratching.Marko: The claws, which are very similar to the teeth, they have different action. They were pulling at it. Here, it's gripping.I have a few different varieties of fur here. We've got the AstroTurf, the cat is moving along it, so we're gonna rub his body along the bottom as he pulls himself along. Bring the mic real close. It's a very small sound. [fur rustling] That'll be the most convincing sound. Because all of the sudden, you go from just an animal that's there moving around to, you have the feeling of it against the floor. You feel its presence.Narrator: To top it all off, a few collar shakes. And a few chews.Marko: With this little guy, I'm only opening my mouth and doing a, like, maybe 50% of the volume I could get. You know. [smacking lips] Right now, he's got a little tongue lick that we're gonna get a little bit of a slobbering sound. Remember, the cat also has a dry tongue. It might be a little sandpapery. But, you know, when it's on itself, it's just a... [smacking lips]Narrator: Then, a Foley mixer watched the footage and layered it all together. [fabric rustling] [lips smacking] [fabric rustling]So, what makes watching this without sound and then with sound different?Marko: The sounds that we make brings you into the personality of the animal. You become closer to it. You wanna give it a personality, you wanna give the sounds a personality, and you can do it by its sound movements. That's what Foley artists do. We give detail. Others came to the annual convention to fulfill a different fantasy: meeting the geek of their dreams.
In a basement room of the Javits Center, where <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/new-york-comic-con-2013" target="_blank">NYCC</a> was held Oct. 10 - 13, a banner depicted two stick figures holding hands - one dressed as a knight, the other wearing antennae. They're sandwiched between the words <a href="https://www.facebook.com/SciFiSpeedDating" target="_blank">"Sci-Fi Speed Dating"</a> and "Let Your Geek Flag Fly." It sounded promising for the 82 singletons mingling inside.
A costumed Jedi Master standing at the front echoed into the mic, "Three, two, one, aaaand switch."
John Kelleher, a 33-year-old from the Bronx, was there on a whim. He volunteered to go with a friend as "karma payback." His outfit - rectangular glasses, a black button-down shirt, and a pinstripe vest - wasn't a costume, although it was unsafe to assume that in a room filled with Captain America, Snow White, Dr. Who, Poison Ivy, and more obscure, casually dressed heroes and villains. Many Comic Con attendees dress like their favorite comic book, video game, anime, sci-fi, movies, and TV characters to celebrate their fandom - a ritual called <keyword id="1609400" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cosplay">cosplay</keyword>. Her dress's burgundy color, pin over her heart, and black collar suggested that she belonged to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, of the "Star Trek" universe. Kelleher, who works as an IT engineer at a power plant company, immediately recognized this and saw an opportunity for some flirtatious banter.
"My personal philosophy is those who can make something out of nothing are always rich," Kelleher later told Business Insider. "So I mentioned that she was 'too cute to be expendable'" - the inside joke being that most red shirts on "Star Trek" wind up dead. He joked that they should visit a power plant on their first date.
Part-time Jedi Master, part-time matchmaker Ryan Glitch <a href="http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Whats-Happening/Events-R-Z/" target="_blank">hosted eight Sci-Fi Speed Dating sessions</a> (two of which were LGBT-only events) at <keyword id="1899022" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="NYCC">NYCC</keyword>. Glitch founded the company four years ago after attending a similar, but poorly run speed dating event. He now travels across the country to comic book and sci-fi conventions to help fans find love.

Participants wear numbered badges and carry index cards so they can jot down the IDs of the partners they click with. You chat with someone for three minutes before moving to the next costumed, self-proclaimed geek in the queue. At the end of the session, you write your contact information and an identifier (i.e. "Dressed as Snow White," or, "Bonded over love of 'Star Wars'") on the sheets labeled with the numbers of the <keyword id="6360040" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="people">people</keyword> with whom you'd like to continue the conversation.
These chance encounters get results. Sci-Fi Speed Dating has spawned five marriages, two babies, 19 engagements, and more than 100 couples dating seriously, according to Glitch. He's received invitations to all the weddings and keeps tabs on the success stories via his personal Facebook account.
Glitch's company has a few competitors, including <a href="http://nyc.nerdnite.com/" target="_blank">Nerd Nite NYC</a>, but Sci-Fi Speed Dating's appearance on the 2011 two-part special <a href="http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/geek-love" target="_blank">"Geek Love" on TLC</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL99PCYdTX-vcCIJx4McZceyvt0I1WScfO" target="_blank">spinoff YouTube series</a> launched it as the go-to speed dating service for conventions nationwide.
Glitch credited his success to the unique clientele. The typical Comic Con-goer tends to be a little quirky and maybe a little accustomed to being an outcast. Here, they break out of their shells and find they're not alone, even in a room of single people.

"This works because this community doesn't judge," he explained. "In 'real' speed dating, you can be stuck in a room with 50 people who just don't give a s---. In this speed dating, everyone's like, 'Hey, you're a fan! Wahoo!'"
Many participants noted that it was easy to find people who shared their interests, and the relaxed atmosphere took the pressure off making a strong first impression.
Kelleher added that the costumes are often revealing of partners' personalities.
"People are more than just the characters they dress up as," he said. "You get to see who they are on the inside."
Kelleher was disappointed time ran out before he could speak to all the women, and that the Starfleet engineer gave her digits to his friend instead.
"But I got eight numbers," Kelleher said, waving his sheet in his hands. He smiled. "I guess that's not too bad."
