The Terra crypto token was trading at around $80 on May 5, according to Coinmarketcap, but its value had dropped by 99.98% to around 5 cents at the time of writing. The platform itself has halted the blockchain, and Coinmarketcap warns users that there’s extreme volatility in the token right now. <div type="image" title="Coinmarketcap" msid="91539406" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Coinmarketcap&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> “The Terra blockchain has officially halted at block 7607789. Through a process called arbitrage, the Luna token is used to keep the UST stablecoin’s value pegged to one dollar. Through this, the company was able to keep the price of UST pegged to a dollar, while it earned profits through Luna, and also didn’t have to keep a reserve of USD at all times. The platform’s in-built algorithms track supply and demand of UST and Luna, and are designed to balance the two systems. The system sort of disintegrated earlier this month, when a broad sell-off of both UST and Luna tokens by investors led to big drops in both their prices. The developers of the Terra blockchain announced, at the time, that they would start buying Bitcoin in order to build a reserve for themselves. The two cryptocurrencies, hence, may have been purchased by many in India as well. At the moment, the Terra blockchain has been halted, which means that trading in these tokens will not be possible, even through P2P trading. That said, some exchanges will allow users to withdraw the fiat values of these tokens. “We will enable Binance free transfer for users to withdraw their Luna funds," WazirX said in a statement on May 13, for instance. The platform is delisting Luna/USDT, Luna/WRX and Luna/INR pairs. CoinDCX, too, has said that it’s delisting both UST and Luna tokens with immediate effect. “Kindly note that users can continue to trade the above assets using other trading pairs available on CoinDCX Pro and CoinDCX Web Platform," the company said in a statement. On the other hand, CoinSwitch Kuber said that it will have “enabled a window” for users to sell and recover “some value” from their investments. The window will close at 5pm on May 13. Mumbai, Kerala-based ESAF Small Finance Bank on Monday filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with markets regulator <keyword id="5083555" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Securities-and-Exchange-Board-of">Securities and Exchange Board of</keyword> India for an IPO. As per the DRHP, the aggregate issue size is up to ₹997.78 crore, comprising of a fresh issue component of up to ₹800 crore and an Offer for Sale up to ₹197.78 crore by promoter and other selling shareholders i.e <keyword id="8150050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PNB-MetLife-India-Insurance-Company">PNB Metlife India Insurance Company</keyword>, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Ltd, <keyword id="4412564" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pi-Ventures-LLP">PI Ventures LLP</keyword>, and John Chakola. The net proceeds from the fresh issue will be used to augment the bank's Tier 1 capital (primarily loans, advances and investment portfolio) to meet future capital requirements. As per the CRISIL report, ESAF is one of the leading small finance banks in terms of yield on advances, AUM growth rate, and share of retail deposits. It currently operates across 21 states and two Union Territories with 550 branches, 421 customer service centres (which are operated by its business correspondents), 12 business correspondents, 158 banking agents and 327 ATMs and serves over 4.68 million customers. As of March 2021, ESAF's gross advances stood at ₹8,415 crore, compared with ₹6,606.51 crore a year ago and total deposits were at ₹8,999.43 crore against ₹7,028.38 crore. Additionally, the DRHP states that the bank will continue to focus on its rural and semi-urban franchisees and increase deposits across NRIs and CASA. As on date, it stands to have the highest share of retail deposits as a percentage to the total deposits when compared to the other small finance banks. WhatsApp had banned 2.2 million accounts in the month of September, while 560 grievance reports were received in the same time frame. Twitter, in its compliance report, added, “We processed 40 grievances which were appealing Twitter account suspensions. These were all resolved and the appropriate responses were sent. We overturned 6 of the account suspensions based on the specifics of the situation, but the other accounts remain suspended. <ul><li>Ikigai Law’s Anirudh Rastogi represented Indian crypto exchanges in the <keyword id="6354977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="Orion">Supreme Court</keyword> case, which led to the Reserve Bank of India’s <keyword id="6441508" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crypto-ban" source="Orion">crypto ban</keyword> getting quashed.</li><li>According to him, the ideal case would be for the government to create a self-regulatory organization (SRO) to oversee the crypto industry in India.</li><li>However, the matter could go to court if the government’s upcoming crypto bill is too restrictive.</li></ul>India’s upcoming crypto bill has been wrapped in speculation since last week, when the government announced it would be introducing the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/investment/news/heres-a-quick-look-at-how-the-evolution-of-cryptocurrencies-has-played-out-in-india/slidelist/87902549.cms">long-awaited</a> piece of legislation during the ongoing session of <keyword id="6354721" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="parliament" source="Orion">Parliament</keyword>. The industry as a whole is hoping that the government will find the right balance so as to not restrict innovation and provide legitimacy to the sector. The lawyer behind getting India’s 2018 crypto ban quashed, Anirudh Rastogi, believes an overly restrictive stance could lead to another battle in the Supreme Court. Rastogi represented Indian crypto exchanges for Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), whose members include WazirX, CoinDCX and others, in the appeal at the Supreme Court against the 2018 ban on cryptocurrencies issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Short of blanket ban, these are some of the wishes that he has from the crypto ban: <ol><li>A self-regulatory organisation to oversee the crypto industry</li><li>Sunset clauses for stringent laws</li><li>A sandbox setup for crypto businesses to develop their use cases</li><li>Allowance of gas fees payments using cryptocurrencies</li></ol>“A blanket ban on payments would be a good reason to go to court. If I can’t make gas payments, that’s the end of a lot of businesses — how do you operate an exchange, for instance, which is built on an Ethereum or Bitcoin network without paying gas fees. This could be challenged as a violation of a person’s ‘right to trade’,” he told Business Insider. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What’s the big deal about gas fees?" comment="subhead" text="What’s the big deal about gas fees?">What’s the big deal about gas fees?</cmsannotation> Gas fees, simply put, are transaction fees. These payments are made by users to compensate the network for the computing energy required to process and validate transactions. And, they’re done during cryptocurrencies. If there’s a blanket ban on cryptocurrencies and their use as payments, developers based out of India will face issues developing solutions based on blockchain technology. “If the government bans use of cryptocurrency for payments, the right exceptions within that are important… Licensing for cryptocurrency based cross-border remittances would be desirable since it can make remittances significantly cheaper and faster. According to him, it’s not a surprise that the Indian government is not looking to recognise Bitcoin as a currency. “That has been a consistent stance taken by the government, right from Arun Jaitley’s 2018 Budget speed,” he said. At the same time, fears persist. An overly restrictive regime could also pose a problem. “Over regulating a new, emerging technology could be deeply problematic because it’s a rapidly evolving space. And, for the government to keep pace with that and in terms of legislation is obviously going to be difficult,” said Rastogi. Instead, he proposes that the government should lay out broad principles but not micro-manage. Other industries, like over-the-top (OTT) services and e-commerce, self-regulated themselves for a good couple of years — and the same allowance should be given to the crypto sector in India. <div type="ExtQuote" text="My ideal case would be for the government to create an SRO [self regulatory organisation], which could then lay down further guidelines on two or three specific issues — one would be investor protection and advertising." auname="Anirudh Rastogi, the founder and managing partner at Ikigai Law, told Business Insider"></div> If the government does introduce more stringent regulation it should come with a ‘sunset clause’. Simply put, the strictest parts of the law should be accompanied by an expiry date, at which point they should be reevaluated. Alternatively, the government could even set up a sandbox environment for cryptocurrency experiments. “The RBI sandbox in place today specifically bans cryptocurrency businesses, which is bizarre. Sandboxes are meant to be created exactly for these types of businesses, which are cutting-edge, less understood and have regulatory concerns — that’s why you create a sandbox,” explained Rastogi. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Questions remain unanswered" comment="subhead" text="Questions remain unanswered">Questions remain unanswered</cmsannotation> According to <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword>, India’s Finance Minister, Bitcoin will not be given the status of a currency. But she did not elucidate on whether or not payments in cryptocurrencies for blockchain operations would still be permitted. The question around whether or not cryptocurrency trade would still be permitted in the country also hangs in the balance until an official draft of the bill is brought in for public review. The silver lining is that Sitharaman clarified that the upcoming bill is most definitely different from its previous iterations. The lawyer behind getting India’s 2018 crypto ban quashed hasn’t ruled out going to court again

New Delhi, <keyword id="10475830" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="smartphone-brand-oppo">Smartphone brand OPPO</keyword> on Tuesday announced to set up first <keyword id="764355" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G">5G</keyword> innovation lab at its Hyderabad R&amp;D centre, adding that it will soon introduce three additional innovation labs dedicated towards camera, <keyword id="44011" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="power">power</keyword> and battery and performance. The company said that these labs will focus on making the latest and the most <keyword id="599504" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Advanced-technologies">advanced technologies</keyword> for the world. The team in India will also lead innovations for other countries, including Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Japan, and Europe. The new lab will deepen the development of core product technologies for 5G ecosystem and accelerate its rollout in the country. "With this lab setup, while we work towards developing core technologies for 5G era and strengthen the overall ecosystem, we also aim to support India in its 5G journey," said Tasleem Arif, Vice President &amp; Head, <keyword id="10475829" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="rd-oppo-india">R&amp;D OPPO India</keyword>. "The technologies developed at the lab will mark a global footprint while promising our vision to make India an innovation hub". The Hyderabad hub, first-ever R&amp;D centre outside of China, is playing a pivotal role in the development of 5G technologies. The India R&amp;D team of <keyword id="1731609" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Oppo">OPPO</keyword> is also working closely with leading industry chain partners like Jio, Airtel, Qualcomm, MediaTek, among others. In line with OPPO's commitment to Make in India, the manufacturing at Greater Noida plant has been increased to 50 million smartphones per year. According to Japanese research institution NGB Corporation, the brand is among the top 10 companies regarding the number of declared 5G patent families. OPPO said it has deployed its 5G standard patents in over 20 countries.
