<br /> As we have mentioned before, expressways are limited-access roads designed for high-speed traffic. The economic impact of an <keyword id="2074705" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Expressway-network">expressway network</keyword> criss-crossing the country is all too obvious and the <keyword id="6404450" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Road-Transport-and-Highways">Ministry of Road Transport and Highways</keyword> (MoRTH) has already recommended a total <keyword id="2074707" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="E-way-network">e-way network</keyword> of about 18,637 km in the country. Development work is being done in three phases and is scheduled to be completed by 2022. During the Interim Budget, <keyword id="6355261" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Finance-minister">Finance Minister</keyword> <keyword id="43940" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="P-Chidambaram">P Chidambaram</keyword> also told the Parliament the road network in the country witnessed over sevenfold increase at 3.89 lakh km over the past decade.<br />
<br /> Does that mean we may soon see an <keyword id="2074709" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="E-way-ecosystem">e-way ecosystem</keyword> similar to the interstate system in the US? <ul class="summary-list"><li>I began working fully remote roles immediately after graduating college in the spring of 2020.</li><li>While remote work is glorified for its flexibility, I found myself lonely and stuck inside.</li></ul><p>In the spring of 2020, my life felt like it was squeezed between the palms of an arm wrestling match. With graduation approaching, messages from our professors and parents relayed like narratives: Time to go out into the world. But this world looked different than what they had experienced <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/recent-college-grad-lives-at-home-post-grad-anxiety-depression-2024-4">post-grad</a>; it was shuttered amid a pandemic.</p><p>Cities were emptying, companies were folding, and the consensus was to do anything but go out. As I delved into an arduous <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/goldilocks-job-market-openings-quitting-unemployed-wage-growth-job-seekers-2024-4">job search</a>, remote work began to seem like an attractive option — albeit my only one.</p><p>I finally landed my <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dream-jobs-world-revealed-based-google-searches-2023-1">dream job</a>, but that remote lifestyle became my downfall.</p><h2><strong>Remote work seemed like the perfect fit at first</strong></h2><p>My TikTok is often filled with videos depicting life after college: quiet commutes, mundane work days, monotonous routines, and lonely houses. In many ways, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/day-in-the-life-nyu-student-intern-content-creator-2024-1">remote work </a>seemed to circumvent that notorious corporate slog. No time wasted sitting on the freeway or train; no dress code, nor need to cover tattoos; no dog or human sitter; no fluorescent lights or cubicles.</p><p>When I landed my dream job at a high-profile magazine, I thought it was perfect. The job would allow me to live in a coastal town rather than move to the city. I could play my jazz records, take yoga breaks, and spread out all over the floor of my living room. Most importantly, it would allow me to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sharing-location-with-family-safety-app-2024-3">visit my family</a> freely and for as long as I liked.</p><p>The pandemic padded my transition to full-time remote work. Since nearly everyone else stayed home, too, it felt normal to be stuck inside from morning to night.</p><h2><strong>But things changed when the pandemic rules lessened</strong></h2><p>I quickly found myself growing restless. Before lockdown, I had spent all day every day out of the house. With a full-time remote role, I quickly became frustrated with staying indoors all day. These feelings only intensified as my job became increasingly more demanding, leaving me unable to get out before dark.</p><p>In 2022, I <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-san-francisco-worth-it-cost-of-living-negativity-2024-2">moved to San Francisco</a>, a decision made possible by my fully remote role. While I was grateful for the freedom to live wherever I wanted, my job had never felt so controlling. With little opportunity to step away from my bedroom desk during work hours, my ability to get acquainted with my new home city was stunted. Even with several great roommates and a solid base of friends in the Bay, I felt entirely disconnected from the community.</p><p>My days were spent communicating with people through a screen. I was existing in a world largely immaterial; collaborating over Slack and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/what-is-microsoft-teams">Microsoft Teams</a> and Airtable and Google Docs and Sprinklr — everything but a physical table.</p><p>I realized that as a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/working-multiple-remote-jobs-dont-feel-guilty-overemployed-secret-jobs-2024-2">remote worker</a>, you lack both your second (work) and third (social) places. Social media and Microsoft Teams are not adequate replacements for these spaces — if anything, they exacerbate the need for them.</p><h2><strong>I eventually traded in my good-on-paper job for a better day-to-day life</strong></h2><p>I've always been ambitious and hardworking. But sometime last year, I felt that while I was excelling as a journalist, I was failing as a 25-year-old.</p><p>Ultimately, I left my remote job in pursuit of a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/freelance-working-from-home-day-schedule-regain-control-time-zones-2022-9">freelance schedule </a>that would give me the space to integrate myself into San Francisco. I wanted to bring more dimension and spontaneity to my life — to get a little lost, bump into people, and create a new routine based on my environment, not my inbox.</p><p>I'm very lucky to be in a position to do so. I'm a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/unmarried-woman-happy-living-single-new-york-city-2024-3">single person</a> in a flexible living situation with no dependents, and my industry offers more possibilities for freelance work than most.</p><p>Now, while my career feels more precarious, my days are rounded and diverse. My work is a combination of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quit-my-job-due-return-to-office-in-person-work-2023-12">in-person</a> and remote. I can get outside, work in cafés, and connect with people during "work hours."</p><p>If you had told me a year ago that I'd be trading my role at a high-profile magazine to work part-time at a yoga studio and struggle as a freelance writer, I'd be afraid for the future. And I still am — but my anxiety about the future is insignificant compared to how anxious and discontent I was in my day-to-day life working remotely. I would rather be slightly rattled by "what now" than saddled with "what if."</p>

What was to be a joyous morning turned into tragedy as the first <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amtrak-train-derails-falls-onto-overpass-in-washington-2017-12" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amtrak Cascades train to traverse the route derailed causing several fatalities</a>.</p><p>The <a href="https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2012/07/05/PointDefianceBypassHandout_July2015.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Point Defiance Bypass project</a> had been in the works for more than a decade. Proponents of the $181 million project say that it will reduce congestion and cut much as 10 minutes off the trip time between Seattle and Portland, Oregon.</p><p>The new bypass which takes the Amtrak train inland along the west side of Interstate 5 will allow for the addition of two new round-trip trains.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Rail/PNWRC_PtDefiance/Map.htm">Washington State Department of Transportation</a></span></p><p class="caption">The Point Defiance Bypass is in orange.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Traditionally, Amtrak Cascades passenger trains going through Tacoma would take a route along the shores of the Puget Sound. While picturesque, the coastal route features single-track tunnels and a risk for landslides. In addition, the route features tight curves and heavy freight train traffic requires the Amtrak Cascades to reduce its speed.</p><p>Monday's derailment occurred during the morning rush hour with the train leaving the track right as it was about to cross over southbound lanes of I-5 near the south end of the bypass. As a result, the locomotive and several of the train's passenger cars landed on the freeway. <p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Eric Thayer</span></p><p class="caption">There's practically a whole dialect to describe LA's notorious traffic.</p>California is known by many as the land of beautiful celebrities, packed freeways, and perpetual summer. <p>But the nation's <a href="http://www.census.gov/popclock/">most populous state</a> also has a huge variety of people with unique ways of speaking, from valley girl speak to surfer lingo to slang inspired by Bay Area hip hop. </p><p>The people of the Golden State speak a dialect distinct enough to warrant its own name: California English.  </p><p>We've come up with 12 sayings that only people who hail from the Golden State will understand.</p><h2><strong>1. "There's a Sigalert for the carpool lane on the 5 south." </strong></h2><p>Freeways are a huge part of Californians' daily existence, so of course there are plenty of slang terms associated with it. Californians may be the only people in the country to put "the" before the number of a freeway route (and they're never called highways), and the only people to call it the carpool lane instead of the HOV.</p><p>And if there's a Sigalert, take it as a hint to avoid the area completely. Sigalerts are messages issued by the California Highway Patrol when there's an accident or anything else blocking multiple lanes of traffic, meaning that notorious California traffic is even more horrendous than usual (see also: <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/carmageddon-pictures-los-angeles-2011-7">Carmageddon</a>).</p><h2><strong>2. "It takes 20 minutes, depending on traffic."</strong></h2><p>People from California say this all the time to describe their location, and it's barely ever true. 30 minutes just sounds way too far, and 15 minutes is unrealistic.  </p><p>We all know that 20 minutes away really means something closer to 40, and that light traffic is never something you can depend on. </p><h2><strong>3. "June Gloom."</strong></h2><p>Beginning in June (or even at the end of May if it's a particularly unlucky year), a wave of foggy weather invades coastal areas of California and ruins everyone's beach plans. June Gloom/Grey May/No-Sky July are southern Californian terms used to describe a weather pattern that brings low-lying clouds and mist during the early summer months. </p><p>Though people from out of town will try to convince you it's just air pollution, the fog that appears every morning usually clears up by mid-afternoon or so. </p><h2><strong>4. "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." </strong></h2><p>This San Francisco cliche is usually attributed to Mark Twain, though <a href="http://blog.sfgate.com/stew/2013/11/26/why-we-love-the-fog-in-san-francisco/#18393101=0">there's no evidence</a> he ever actually said it. Contrary to what pop culture may have you have believe, summer in the Bay Area is pretty cold, and fog is a nearly constant presence. </p><p>The fog may be a nuisance to visitors touring the Bay Area, but <a href="http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/FOG-HEAVEN-The-sun-will-come-out-tomorrow-Or-2615710.php#page-2">San Franciscans embrace the fog</a> as an essential part of what makes their city home. They even named the fog Karl and gave it its own <a href="https://twitter.com/KarlTheFog">Twitter</a> and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Karl-the-Fog/145697385477802">Facebook</a> pages.</p><h2>5. "It's pretty gnarly out, bro. It's double overhead today!"</h2><p class="source"><span>Bruce Bennett/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Surf culture basically has its own lingo.</p>Surfer culture has had a huge influence on the way coastal Californians speak. You may hear surfers, skaters, and snowboarders talking about "shredding the gnar," but even those who refrain from participating in extreme sports tend to use the word "gnarly" to describe things that are either extremely good or extremely bad.<p>You'll also hear words like "epic," and of course, "dude." Waves that are "double overhead" are not meant for the faint of heart.</p><h2><strong>6. "I'm stoked." </strong></h2><p>Though Merriam-Webster defines "stoke" as "to stir or add fuel to (something that is burning)" this expression has absolutely nothing to do with building a fire, at least in a literal sense. Californians<strong> </strong>are stoked when they're totally, completely exhilarated about something, whether it's a trip to the mountains or a huge swell coming just in time for the weekend. </p><p>Now a commonly used word in many regions, "stoked" became popular with "The Endless Summer," a classic surfing movie documentary by Bruce Brown from 1966.  </p><h2><strong>7. "Hella."</strong></h2><p>Perhaps one of the most distinctive and divisive words on this list, the use of the word "hella" is an immediate indication that the speaker is from northern California. Derived from "hell of a" or "hell of a lot," the word is generally used in place of "really," "a lot," or "very."</p><p>Don't get caught using this word in the southern part of the state, however. You'll only hear people from the Bay Area say this, while people from <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/2010/jul/06/local/la-me-hella-20100706">elsewhere in California will probably find the term annoying</a>. </p><h2><strong>8. "The industry."</strong></h2><p>Vague references to "the industry" might be a little confusing to people not from southern California. When someone says their husband or wife works in "the industry," they don't mean they're an industrial worker, though they may belong to a different kind of labor union. Actors, directors, producers, screenwriters, art directors, film editors, and talent agents are just a few people who make up the huge entity that is "the industry." </p><p>Show business is so prominent in Los Angeles that southern Californians should immediately get the reference. </p><h2><strong>9. "This burger is bomb."</strong></h2><p>We've all heard people refer to things as "the bomb" since the late '90s.  Californians often put their own spin on this outdated expression by taking out "the."</p><p>It's usually food items that are referred to as "bomb," though theoretically anything awesome could be referred to in this way. </p><h2>10. "I'll take a Double-Double, animal style."</h2><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lainetrees/6805312050/">Flickr/punctuated</a></span></p><p class="caption">In-N-Out Burger.</p><p>Californians are deeply proud of their In-N-Out, a fast-food burger chain that comes with its own jargon and a <a href="http://www.in-n-out.com/menu/not-so-secret-menu.aspx">secret menu not advertised in stores</a>. A burger served "animal style" has mustard fried into the patty and comes with extra spread and grilled onions. </p><p>You can also order your fries animal style. If you're especially hungry, try a 3x3 burger, which comes with three beef patties, or even a 4x4, which comes with four.</p><h2><strong>11. "This burrito is dank." </strong></h2><p>"Dank" is a prime example of a term whose connotation has changed from negative to positive thanks to slang usage. Though Merriam-Webster defines it as meaning "wet and cold in a way that is unpleasant," as in a dank basement, the word was adopted by stoner culture to describe high-quality marijuana. </p><p>The word has since evolved to describe anything that is especially good, like an exceptionally tasty burrito. </p><h2><strong>12. Whatever you do, definitely don't say "Cali." </strong></h2><p>The only people who <em>don't</em> refer to California as "Cali" are the Golden State natives themselves. <p>But the nation's third-largest state also has a huge variety of people with very distinct ways of speaking, from valley girl speak to surfer lingo to slang inspired by Bay Area hip hop. </p>
<p>The people of the Golden State speak a dialect distinct enough to warrant its own name: California English.  </p>
<p>Inspired by Business Insider's recent roundups of expressions from the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/southern-sayings-2013-10">South</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/midwestern-sayings-2013-11">Midwest</a>, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/new-england-sayings-2013-12">New England</a>, we've come up with 12 sayings that only people who hail from the Golden State will understand.</p>
