Exports gave impetus to total new orders in May and companies registered the quickest expansion in international sales for six months. New Delhi, Apr 6 () Coal India arm MCL will fund the Covid-19 hospital, having 500 beds and 25 intensive care units, in the capital city of Odisha. The hospital was inaugurated on Monday By Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi also attended the programme coordinated through video conferencing. The development comes at a time when concerns have been raised about weak healthcare infrastructure in the country amid the coronavirus outbreak. "Government of Odisha started the country's second largest COVID-19 hospital in Bhubaneswar on Monday. Coal India's subsidiary company is funding the total operations of this hospital having 500 beds and 25 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds with ventilators," an official said. Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) will finance all expenses of the hospital including cost of treatment of patients for which MCL has already released Rs 7.31 crore as immediate advance. The hospital is a great medical asset for the people of Odisha, Joshi said. MCL has also established isolation and quarantine centres with a total capacity of over 250 beds in Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts of Odisha. The company has also pressed into service the state-of-the-art equipment "fog cannon" to sanitise peripheral areas, besides distributing masks and alcohol-based sanitisers among coal miners and people living in and around its operations. "The central government has already issued guidelines to allow state governments to utilise up to 30 per cent of the balance fund available with District Mineral Fund (DMF) to combat COVID-19. This will also help the mineral rich state like Odisha in fighting with the pandemic," Joshi said. "I had personally directed the PSUs of coal and mines ministries to extend best possible support to the respective state governments to help fight COVID-19, which has engulfed most of the countries of the world. I am happy that these PSUs have risen to the occasion," he added. In response, Coal India's subsidiaries have set up over 1,500 quarantine/ isolation beds in eight states. Similarly, employees of Bhubaneswar- headquartered NALCO have pledged to contribute their one day salary amounting to Rs 2.5 crore to Odisha Chief Minister's Relief Fund. NALCO has also given its consent to fund a dedicated COVID-19 hospital to be set up by the government of Odisha in Koraput district. Covid-19 hospital in Odisha inaugurated; to be funded by Coal India arm

Nagpur, Jun 21 () Coal India Limited (CIL) will engage mine developer cum operators (MDOs) to increase its coal output and reduce import dependency of the dry fuel in the coming years. The Maharatna coal mining behemoth in the process has identified a total of 15 greenfield projects to operate through MDO model of which 12 are open cast and 3 underground, a release by Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) - subsidiary of CIL - said. Combined, they have a total targeted capacity of around 168 million tonne/year (MTY). While the OC projects have a targeted capacity of 162 MTY, UG projects have close to 6 MTY. The contract period would be for 25 years or life of mine whichever is less. "CIL will engage MDOs of international repute, having state-of-the-art-technology through open global tenders, who shall excavate, extract and deliver coal to the coal companies of CIL as per the approved mining plan. "CIL's board recently has given its nod in regard to standard bid document and request for bids for the engagement of MDOs. CIL is laying out plans to complete the formalities by 2021-22 so that all projects become operational and start yielding the output to contribute in 1 BT by 2023-24," it said. It further informed that upcoming identified projects of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, South Eastern Coalfields and Central Coalfields Limited will form major segments for the MDO mode with targeted capacities of 65.5 MTY, 52.4 MTY and 45 MTY, respectively. Eastern Coalfields Limited and Northern Coalfields Limited will have projects with targeted capacities of 3 MTY and 2 MTY, respectively. "Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) for 2 Projects, Siarmal OC of MCL (40 MTY) and Kotre-Basantpur Pachmo of CCL (5 MTY) together having a targeted capacity of 45 MTY has been floated in 2019-20. While NIT for 5 Projects for a targeted capacity of 68 MTY will be floated in the ongoing fiscal, for the balance 8 projects NIT will be floated in the fiscal, 2021- 22," the release said. It also informed reputed MDOs would be engaged to have multiple advantage of technology infusion, and operational efficiency in the system apart from increased production. MDOs will facilitate R&amp;R issues, land acquisitions, green clearances and coordination with state and central pollution boards. New Delhi, Apr 20 () State-run Nalco and Coal India arm Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) will fully fund two dedicated 350-bed Covid-19 hospitals in Odisha inaugurated on Monday. The hospitals were inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan and Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi through video conferencing. The hospitals started by Odisha government will be run with the help of different medical hospitals of the state. "National Aluminum Company (Nalco) and Coal India subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) will fully fund two dedicated Covid-19 hospitals in Odisha," the mines ministry said in a statement. Nalco will fund a 200-bed hospital set up at Nabarangpur district of Odisha, whereas MCL will fund the 150-bed hospital started at Talcher in Angul district of the state. MCL has also provided its medical college infrastructure for setting up the hospital. Two 350-bed Covid-19 hospitals inaugurated in Odisha; to be fully-funded by Nalco, Coal India arm

New Delhi, Nov 27 () Indian companies should purchase stake in Russian coal companies operating in its far east region in order to bring down the coal price and improve their port capacity to handle large ships, said a senior official of Far East Investment and Export Agency (FEIEA) on Tuesday.
 Currently, Indian steel and energy companies such as Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Tata Steel, JSW, Adani Group, and Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) have shown interest in importing total nine million tonnes of coal annually from the Russian firms operating in the far east region.
 However, Indian companies have raised issues related to high price of coal, lack of port capacity to handle big ships, etc.
 Executives of the Indian companies met senior Russian officials such as Nikolay Kudashev, Russian ambassador to India, and Leonid Petukhov, CEO, Far East Investment and Export Agency (FEIEA) on Tuesday in the presence of Union Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
 After the meeting, when asked if the issues related to high coal prices in far east region of Russia were discussed during the meeting with Indian companies, Petukhov told reporters, "Yes, this issue was raised...Whatever the prices are, they are big always for the buyer, and small always for the seller. Given the turbulence, I think the high prices are bad for steel makers and good for the coal producers."
 "For me, the only way on how to basically stabilise it is to get the equity, to get the share. The steel company, through whatever facility, (should) buy equity stake in the producer of the Russian coal," he said.
 Most of the coking coal companies operating in far east region of Russia are publicly listed companies.
 According to Petukhov, Indian steel companies also raised the issue that it needs ports where big ships can come to take coal as it will bring cost down.
 "Most of the Russian coal producers have ports ...In order to bring the costs down, you need to invest money in the ports. So, bringing this equity is very important so that these things (coal costs and logistics) can be synchronised," he added.
 In September this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that USD one billion line-of-credit for the development of Russian far east region.
 Petukhov said, "My dream is to have an equity participation of Indian companies into Russian existing producers, where the money would not be taken from the (Russian) company, and would rather be utilised to develop the (Russian) company and its ports."
 When asked if Indian steel companies can buy majority stake in such companies, he said, "It depends on the size. It depends on the particular case."
 He said that a committee chaired by the Russian Prime Minister decides if such an investment can be permitted. This committee looks at different criteria - type of the mineral or natural resource, size of the deposits, etc - according to Petukhov.
 On the issue of Indian companies showing interest in doing such investments in coking coal companies in far-east region of Russia, he said, "I would never say yes or no because they are mostly public companies. It will influence their stock performance. I am not allowed to do that."
 "But, I would say this much, should they not be interested, we would not be sitting here discussing (the matters)," he added.
 As Indian steel companies have been trying to find the right mix between India coking coal and Russian coking coal, Petukhov informed that a few shipments of the coal have come to India from far-east of Russia for this purpose only.
 "This was the goal of this exercise of sending these first shipments. And we were informed today that yes...they (Indian companies) have found the right use. So, basically what happens is that they add Russian coal to the existing mix, and couple of reports stated that it was successful," he added. DSP SMN

Technology company Jio became the fifth most-valuable company at ₹49,027 crore. While the brand value of Reliance Industries grew at 121% in the last ten years, Jio is a new entrant to the list curated by Interbrand. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), however, retained the top spot as the most valuable brand in India, with a value of about ₹1.1 lakh crore. "Demand reductions have lifted the share of renewables in the electricity supply, as their output is largely unaffected by demand," the report said. At the same time, carbon emissions are set to have a record annual decline of almost 8%, according to the IEA. Paris, Apr 8 (AFP) China and other nations could be burdened with costly and environmentally damaging coal power for decades if they forge ahead with new capacity to boost their economics after the COVID-19 pandemic, research showed Wednesday.While extreme social distancing measures in the world's largest economies aimed at stopping the virus are likely to result in a short-term cut in global emissions, government subsidies are still driving plans to build nearly 500 GW of new coal-fired power plants.The bill for this is set to top $630 billion.A study by the Carbon Tracker financial think tank found that 46 percent of coal plants throughout the world would run at a loss in 2020, rising to 52 percent by 2030.With renewables and natural gas already cheaper than coal in many places, it said that 90 percent of global capacity was already only viable due to non-market financial support.The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that electricity from coal must fall by 80 percent by 2030 in order to limit global temperature rises to 1.5 Celsius (2.6 Farenheit) -- the most ambitious target in the Paris climate deal.Carbon Tracker assessed the cashflow of 95 percent of the world's coal plants either operating or in planning -- nearly 7,000 facilities in all.It found that 59 percent of China's 982 GW coal-fired capacity was running at an underlying loss, with a further 206 GW in the pipeline."China and other governments may be tempted to invest in coal power to help their economies recover after the COVID-19 pandemic, but this risks locking in high-cost coal power that will undermine global climate targets," said Matt Gray, Carbon Tracker's co-head of power and utilities, and study co-author."Building new coal and propping up the existing fleet with stimulus money would be throwing good money after bad." The analysis found that 51 percent of India's operating coal power costs more to run than building new renewable capacity. For the US this was 47 percent.In the EU, the report found that 62 percent of existing coal power was running at an underlying loss.Sriya Sundaresan, report co-author, told AFP that COVID-19 was unlikely to radically alter coal's profitability given that the sector is already artificially supported by state subsidies."The reason a huge amount (of coal) is not cashflow negative is because it's in markets where the value of the asset isn't determined between buyers and sellers," she said."It's really propped up by out-of-market revenues like government subsidies," said Sundaresan."There really needs to be a push on governments to not just look at their existing fleet but also to cancel coal projects in the pipeline, or risk wasting over $600 billion in capital costs and missing out on the Paris temperature goals." The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) also said that there is a need for life cycle impact evaluation for the EVs sector EVs result in the release of pollutants during battery making, disposal, and charging and about 70 per cent of materials used to manufacture EVs in India are imported from China and a few other countries, it said. "EVs will increase India's dependence on China for raw materials, mineral processing, and battery production," it said. China has bought the largest lithium mines in Australia and South America. It processes more than 60 per cent of the lithium produced globally. It also processes 65 per cent of cobalt and 93 per cent of manganese. China makes three out of four batteries produced globally, it said, adding over 100 Chinese battery units make 60 per cent of the cathodes and 80 per cent of the anodes used in lithium-ion cells. The report pointed out that EVs have implications for jobs and pollution and it identified 13 issues related to the interests of consumers, industry, and the government for an evaluation. The issues include the high prices of these vehicles, the fitness of EVs for a long journey, performance under extreme weather, increase in power demand, less fit for public transport, increased dependence on China, no reduction in pollution, disruption of the auto component sector, and inadequate availability of lithium. "EVs with lithium-ion batteries are at best a work-in-progress innovation. We must understand the long-term impact of EVs on jobs, pollution levels, imports, and economic growth," GTRI co-founder <keyword id="504704" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ajay-srivastava" source="Orion">Ajay Srivastava</keyword> said. On the pollution issue, it explained that a typical 500-kilogram lithium car battery uses 12 kg of lithium, 15 kg of cobalt, 30 kg of nickel, 44 kg of copper, and 50 kg of graphite. It also uses about 200 kg of steel, aluminium, and plastics. Mining extraction, transport, and processing of these materials release pollutants and CO2, leading to air and water pollution, it added. "The battery's life is 6-7 years; after which it needs to be recycled. Recycling is complex as the battery contains many toxic materials that are challenging to dispose of. Firms promoting EVs talk about zero tail-pipe emissions but are silent on mining and disposal costs," the report said. Further, it said that EVs will only increase pollution as the batteries are charged from coal-generated electricity. India generates 60 per cent of its electricity from fossil fuels like coal and petroleum, and of this, coal accounts for 50 per cent. "Electric cars only make sense when most power comes from renewable energy," it said, adding that EVs will disrupt India's auto-component industry with 700 organised and 10,000 unorganised manufacturers. It also said that EVs will end the existence of lakhs of shops/garages selling spare parts, changing oil, and servicing vehicles. Further, it said that EV is not a global phenomenon and the push for it is coming from Europe, which is introducing the Carbon Border Adjustment mechanism to protect their polluting industry and disrupt global trade. "There is no standardisation in the charging port for electric scooters. Each firm issues its charging port model. Unless the charging ports are standardised, each maker has to set up separate charging infra across the country," it added. On February 8, The BVK launched what it claims to be a “first-of-its-kind, unique &amp; state-of-the-art unmanned takeaway ordering experience”. The restaurant launched four kiosks at an outlet in Kolathur, Chennai. The kiosks have a 32-inch display touchpad screen that customers can use to place an order. The payment can be made through a card or UPI (using a QR code). Once the order is placed, a countdown timer indicates the time it will take for the meal to be prepared. Once the time is up, customers can collect their “freshly packed” order from a pop-out window. As per the restaurant’s Instagram page, on average, a biryani order is ready in four minutes. Homegrown electric vehicle company <keyword id="2622993" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ather-energy" source="Orion">Ather Energy</keyword> on Thursday announced a new e-scooter '450S', powered by a 3 kWh battery pack, which will bring much-desired performance-centric EV mobility to more commuters in the country. Starting at Rs 1,29,999, the company will start accepting bookings for the new 450S from July onwards. "Within the category, the 450S will break new grounds and will offer first-of-its-kind tech features in the performance scooter segment, raising the bar in terms of riding pleasure and safety while still delivering on performance," <keyword id="1442828" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tarun-mehta" source="Orion">Tarun Mehta</keyword>, Co-Founder and CEO, Ather Energy, said in a statement. The 450S is expected to have an IDC (<keyword id="17580518" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-driving-conditions" source="Orion">Indian Driving Conditions</keyword>) range of 115 km and a top speed of 90 km/h, according to the company.
