It was complete mayhem on the bourses today, as <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> and <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> slumped by over 1% each. While Nifty ended the day at 24,472.10 points, down by 1.25%, Sensex tumbled a massive 930 points to close the day at 80,220.72 points. Both midcap and smallcap indices also witnessed significant bloodshed, with midcap 50 falling by 2.45% during the day, midcap 100 dipping by 2.61%, smallcap 100 tumbling by 3.92%, smallcap 50 falling by 3.7%, and microcaps plummeting 4.14%. Amidst the constituents of Nifty50, only 3 stocks advanced today, while 47 others saw declines. Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, highlights that almost all the sectors ended in the red, with PSU Banks and Realty being the major laggards. "The weak link of the markets, i.e., mid- and small-caps, tumbled by 2.61% and 3.92% and underperformed the frontline index. Considering the oversold conditions in the mid- and small-cap segments, a short-term bounce can be expected in the markets, which may push the index higher, but the upside seems to be capped at 24,670". Rajesh Bhosale, equity technical analyst at Angel One, cautions traders against taking long positions until there are clear signs of a bullish reversal. "The midcap space, in particular, saw a sharp decline, breaking below key support levels, signaling more pain ahead—bottom-fishing in this sector should be avoided for now," he added. Investor wealth worth Rs 8.98 lakh crore was wiped off the markets today, with the BSE m-cap dipping from Rs 453.65 lakh crore yesterday to Rs 444.66 crore today. Broader mid- and small-cap indices saw their worst losses since August, riding on the back of disappointing earnings and cautious management guidance for the upcoming quarters. As such, hefty profit-booking ensued to make the most of still elevated valuations. <h2>FIIs on a heavy selling spree</h2> The massacre in the markets comes amidst heavy offloading of stakes by FIIs (<keyword id="19932515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-institutional-investors" source="keywords">foreign institutional investors</keyword>). Data suggests so far this month, FIIs have offloaded a staggering Rs 82,479.73 crore in Indian markets. DIIs (<keyword id="20234284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-institutional-investors" source="keywords">domestic institutional investors</keyword>) have been trying to maintain some semblance and balance in the markets, having bought 77,402.11 crore worth of assets in the Indian markets. However, that has proved insufficient for maintaining the positive momentum of the markets. The last time Indian markets had witnessed such intense selling was in 2021–22, i.e., during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from NSDL suggests that during this period, FPIs had sold Rs 1,22,242 crore worth of assets in the Indian markets. Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, highlights that mid- and small-caps bore the brunt of earnings disappointments, as these are also the segments most stretched on many valuation metrics. "Growth slowdown concerns, along with uncertainty on rate cut timing, act as a double whammy for equity markets, especially after recent inflation data surprised sharply to the upside," he added. Looking ahead, the markets will continue to focus on the earnings announcements. Investors will look to the RBI's monetary policy meeting minutes tomorrow and the HSBC Manufacturing, Services, and Composite PMI data on Thursday for further signals to act upon.

On the listing day, LIC’s shares closed at ₹875.45, at a discount of ₹73.55, giving IPO investors a loss of 7.75%. <h3>Paytm</h3>The IPO of One97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm is one for the history books. The company’s ₹18,300 crore IPO, which had an offer price of ₹2,150 closed at ₹1,564.15 on listing day, ₹585.56 less than the offer price, giving a listing day loss of 27.25%. <h3><keyword id="19903245" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coal-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Coal India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Coal India">Coal India</keyword></h3>Coal India is the only exception to the list as it is the only company that opened higher than its offer price, giving investors a profitable exit. The company’s ₹15,199.44 crore IPO was subscribed 15.2 times. Coal India’s shares, which had an offer price of ₹245 closed at ₹342.35 on listing day, at a gain of ₹97.35 to investors, a 39.73% profit. <h3><keyword id="20024191" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Power" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Reliance Power" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Reliance Power">Reliance Power</keyword></h3>Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Power’s ₹11,563.2 crore IPO, which was oversubscribed by 73 times amid much fanfare had a disastrous listing. Out of the 2,800 stocks traded during the day, 1,008 stocks saw advances, while 1,725 stocks saw declines, and another 67 stocks remained unchanged. 209 stocks touched their 52-week high price, and 27 stocks touched their 52-week low. 120 stocks hit the upper circuit during the day, while 93 stocks remained in the lower circuit. With the exception of Nifty 50 and 100, all other broad based indices closed the day in red. India VIX dipped by 2.41%, while small cap 50 plunged by 1.03%. As for sectoral indices, media (down by 1.89%) and realty (down by 1.70%) saw the maximum dips, while bank, FMCG, financial services ,oil and gas, healthcare and pharma closed the day in green. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares says that Indian bourses began the August month on a strong note above the psychological barrier of 25,000. "But, negative divergence in RSI pulled the Index lower to settle the trade at 25,010.90 with gains of 59.75 points. Among the sectors, Energy was the top gainer while media and realty corrected the most. Broader markets underperformed the frontline index as mid and small caps corrected by 0.85% &amp; 0.98% respectively. The Index has formed a Spinning Top candlestick pattern which represents indecisiveness where the downside seems to be protected at 24,930 while the immediate resistance is placed at 25,100", he continued.

While Nifty closed at 24,613.00 points, up by 0.11%, Sensex closed at 80,709.26 points, up by 0.06%. Asian Paints and LTI Mindtree are expected to release their Q1FY25 results tomorrow. Amidst broad market indices, Nifty Next 50, 100, 200 and 500 closed in red. Most <keyword id="46258" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="midcap" source="Orion">midcap</keyword> and <keyword id="1885976" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="small-cap-indices" source="Orion">small cap indices</keyword> closed the day in green. Amidst sectoral indices, bank, financial services, <keyword id="6354777" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="media" source="Orion">media</keyword>, metal, healthcare, oil and gas, pharma, PSU and private banks closed the day in red. <keyword id="6384816" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="realty" source="Orion">Realty</keyword> inched up by 1.66% during the day, while media fell 1.03%. Mr. Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares noted that the index oscillated in a tight range of 24,600-24,650 and finally settled at 24,613.00 with gains of 26.30 points. "On a sectoral front, realty was the top gainer followed by FMCG and IT while media corrected the most. Profit booking led correction was witnessed in the Pharma segment. Despite the muted performance by mid and small caps, stock-specific buying was observed", he said. Out of the 2,772 stocks traded, 1,403 saw advances, while 1,283 declined. Another 86 remained unchanged. 156 stocks hit their 52-week high, while 15 stocks also touched their 52-week low. 124 stocks hit the upper circuit during trading today, while 78 stocks hit the lower circuit as well. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities highlights that the short-term texture of the market is still positive. Currently, the market has witnessed narrow range activity at higher levels, which Chouhan sees as traders waiting for either side breakout. "For the bulls now, 24,665/80,900 would be the immediate breakout level. Above which, the market could rally up to 24,750-24,775/81,200-81,300. On the flip side, we could see one quick intraday correction if the index slip below 24,550/80,500. Below which, it could retest the level of 24,500/80,300. Further down side may also continue which could drag the market till 24,425/80,000", he explained.

He manipulated stock prices using illegal loopholes in the banking system. By obtaining unsecured loans from banks and investing them in the stock market, Mehta artificially inflated stock prices. Telecom minister A. Raja was at the centre of this controversy, which allegedly caused a loss of ₹1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer. The case was seen as a massive blow to public trust in India’s telecom sector and led to significant political fallout. As of 2:15 pm today, HMIL's shares were trading at Rs 1,910.00 on NSE, up by 4.97%. On BSE, shares of HMIL were also up by 4.76%, trading at Rs 1,907. The IPO had a price band of Rs 1,865-1,960 per share. Yesterday, Hyundai Motors India experienced a muted debut on the exchanges, opening at Rs 1,934, at a discount of Rs 26, or 1.3%, below the issue price of Rs 1,960. The dull debut resulted in <keyword id="23654838" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="listing-day-losses" source="keywords">listing day losses</keyword> worth 7.16% for investors. The stock slipped even further to close the day at Rs 1,819.6, about 6% below the issue price. The stock opened today at Rs 1,815.20 before inching up during the day. <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">Retail investors</keyword> were largely unenthusiastic about this IPO, subscribing only 0.5x to the offer. The issue sailed over and managed to get a 2.37x subscription thanks to <keyword id="21713453" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="QIBs" source="keywords">QIBs</keyword> (qualified institutional buyers), who pitched in and oversubscribed around 700% to the issue. This was despite Hyundai's IPO being the first share sale in India by an automaker in over 2 decades. Data suggests that only 3 out of India's biggest-ever IPOs managed to deliver positive listing day gains. Even LIC's listing had yielded listing-day losses of about 7.75% for investors. Only Coal India's issue worth Rs 15,199 crore, which opened for subscription in 2010, and Zomato's issue worth Rs 9,375 crore in 2021 have managed to duck this trend. While Coal India's debut delivered listing day gains worth 39.73%, Zomato yielded a staggering 65.59% debut gain for its investors. In the last decade, DLF's IPO worth Rs 9,187 crore, which came in 2007, resulted in listing day gains of about 8.58% for its investors.

Hyundai Motor India's shares jump 5% on second day, making up for dull debut

This is also the first instance where an international giant (Hyundai Motor Group is based out of South Korea) will be listing its subsidiary (<keyword id="19908548" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Motor-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Hyundai Motor India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Hyundai Motor India">Hyundai Motor India</keyword>) in an overseas market. Additionally, the company is also looking to raise Rs 8,315.28 crore from <keyword id="21330641" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anchor-investors" source="keywords">anchor investors</keyword>, who will begin bidding on October 14th, 2024. Hyundai is the third largest auto original equipment manufacturer (OEM) globally, based on passenger vehicle sales. "We have been in India now for more than 26 years. We have a very high market share. We are at number two position in India in the passenger vehicle space. We have got so much love and affection from the people of India. So we believe this is the right time to take one step forward and even further Indianize our operations," Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) COO Tarun Garg told PTI in an interaction. Garg further added that the whole aim is to really become the most trusted brand of India. On being asked why they choose India for launching their IPO, he noted that the brand Hyundai has really been accepted very well in India, which is why it is probably the right country to really go for the IPO. Hyundai has set a price band of Rs 1,865-1,960 per share for the IPO, taking the company's valuation to Rs 1.6 lakh crore, or $19 billion. For <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">retail investors</keyword>, the minimum lot size is 7 shares, while the minimum investment amount is Rs 13,720. Out of the total issue, 35% has been reserved for retail investors, which will give them a fair shot at owning HMIL shares. Also, 7,78,400 shares have been allocated for employees, which will be offered at a discount of Rs 186 to the issue price. Most experts are suggesting subscribing to the IPO from a medium to long-term perspective. According to Bajaj Broking's IPO note, "The issue relatively appears fully priced, but the company is poised for bright prospects post completion of its ongoing expansions. The company reported PAT margins of 6.05% (FY22), 7.67% (FY23), 8.50% (FY24), 8.48% (Q1-FY25), and RoCE (return on capital employed)margins of 20.37%, 28.75%, 62.90%, 13.69% for the referred periods, respectively. A case has been registered against four persons for <keyword id="20497088" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="culpable-homicide" source="keywords">culpable homicide</keyword> not amounting to murder, and efforts are on to apprehend them, an official said. The victims, Lakshman Dabhi (35), Khodabhai Makwana (32) and Viram Keraliya (35), were digging at a mine near Bhet village in Thangadh taluka of the district when they died of asphyxiation on Saturday, the official from Muli Muli police station said. The trio did not have helmets, masks or other <keyword id="20754876" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="safety-equipment" source="keywords">safety equipment</keyword> when they were working for the accused, he said. As per the first information report (FIR), the accused did not provide helmets or other safety equipment to the deceased while employing them to dig a well. They died after inhaling gas from the well, it stated. A case was registered against Jashabhai Keraliya, Janak Aniyaria, Khimjibhai Saradia, and Kalpesh Parmar, the official said. Bodies of the deceased labourers have been sent for post-mortem, he added. Earlier in February, three workers died after inhaling toxic gas that emanated after a blast triggered by gelatin sticks for an <keyword id="19932636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="illegal" source="keywords">illegal</keyword> mining operation in the district.

PSU top management performance also now has a component of stock performance. Governance improvements could drive longer term rerating for these companies,” said Jefferies in its report. The agency has also named T Chandini, the then director in the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, for favouring the company as member secretary of the Expert Appraisal Committee ((EAC) in allowing mining in the Talabira-I mine in the critically polluted area of Odisha's Jharsuguda in violation of ministry guidelines, they said. The central probe agency registered an FIR against Hindalco and Chandini under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act after a nearly eight-year-long preliminary inquiry. Reacting to the FIR, a Hindalco spokesperson said, "This is an old matter pertaining to 2014-15. These mines were de-allocated as part of the government's de-allocation process. This is a matter of public record where more than 100 mines were de-allocated." The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the preliminary inquiry in 2016 on allegations that the Aditya Birla Management Corporation Private Limited (ABMCPL) had allegedly paid "massive bribes" between 2011 and 2013 to ministry officials for getting mandatory <keyword id="20082436" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="environmental-clearance" source="keywords">environmental clearance</keyword> to mine coal from Talabira. The findings of the inquiry showed that the ministry had made it mandatory in 2006 for a company to seek environment clearances for all new projects, expansion of existing products and any change in the product mix in an existing manufacturing unit. The projects needing prior environmental clearance were supposed to go through the EAC, consisting of experts from different disciplines. The clearance was given by the regulatory authority based on the EAC's recommendation. Hindalco received its first environmental clearance in 2001 for mining 0.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of coal from the Talabira-I mine. Another clearance was given in January 2009 for its expansion, allowing the increase in mining from 0.4 MTPA to 1.5 MTPA. Nearly a month after the second clearance, the company sought to double its capacity to 3 MTPA, which was to be considered by the EAC, it said. It emerged that the company had allegedly violated clearances given in 2001 and 2009 by producing more coal than permitted by the ministry, the FIR said. The company allegedly mined 3.04 MTPA excess coal from 2004-05 to 2007-08 and 2008-09, it said. "This fact became known during the process of consideration by the EAC of which T Chandini, director, was the member secretary," the FIR alleged. The Odisha State Pollution Control Board and the Central Pollution Control Board confirmed during the inquiry that the Talabira mine was in the critically polluted area of Jharsuguda, the CBI alleged. According to ministry rules, in-pipeline projects in critically polluted areas or those applying after January 13, 2010, were to be returned to the project proponent by member secretaries with the approval of the advisor. The inquiry showed that Chandini, despite being fully aware that the company was mining excess coal in violation of previous environmental clearances, did not return the project, as stipulated in the ministry circular. "Rather she acted to the contrary in as much as the proposal of HIL (Hindalco) was continued to be processed which amounted to misuse of her official position to favour HIL," the CBI FIR has alleged. Chandini, by misusing her official position, communicated to Hindalco that their proposal for grant environmental clearance would be considered in the next meeting of the EAC to be held on February 25 and 25, 2010, the agency alleged. She allegedly ensured that the clearance was granted in haste, considering the fact that Hindalco was already in violation of earlier clearances granted by the ministry, as it was already mining excess coal from the Talabira-I coal mine, it said.
