All five trains, which operated from Anand Vihar, will now run from Old Delhi station till further orders, the sources said Sunday. Home Minister Amit Shah earlier Sunday had said the Centre would provide 500 railway coaches to Delhi to meet the demand for hospital beds for COVID-19 patients. The Railways has already deployed 54 such coaches in the maintenance depot of the Shakurbasti station and is planning to deploy the remaining coaches on the seven platforms of Anand Vihar station, sources told . Three trains from Anand Vihar station were to Motihari, Raxaul and Muzaffarpur in Bihar and two trains were to Ghazipur city in Uttar Pradesh. Delhi recorded 2,224 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday in the highest single-day spike in the national capital, taking the infection tally to over 41,000, and the death toll mounted to 1,327, authorities said. This is the third successive day when over 2,000 cases were reported in a day in Delhi. The previous highest spike in cases -- 2,137 -- was recorded on June 12. The number of coronavirus cases in Delhi is the third highest in the country after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. States like Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi requisitioned these coaches two months after the national transporter converted over 5,000 of its non-air conditioned coaches into COVID care centres. New Delhi, Jul 1 () As many as 118 patients have been admitted in the COVID care coaches of the Indian Railways so far, while 72 have been discharged, the national transporter said on Wednesday. On the requisition of state governments, the Railways has parked 960 such isolation coaches across five states. However, only two states have started using this facility offered by the Railways so far -- Delhi which has 503 such coaches at its disposal across nine stations and Uttar Pradesh which has 372 coaches parked in 24 locations. The remaining coaches are parked in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Till date, there have been 40 admissions in Delhi and 78 admissions in Uttar Pradesh since the coaches were stationed there, officials said. Currently, there are 22 patients at Mau in Uttar Pradesh and 24 patients at Shakurbasti railway station in Delhi. The death toll due to coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh has risen to 718 while the total COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 24,056. According to health bulletin released by the Delhi government on Tuesday, the COVID-19 tally in Delhi stands at 87,360 while the the death toll due to the disease is 2,742. Indian Railways is ready to offer 5,231 isolation coaches to the states and the zonal railways have converted these coaches as quarantine facilities, officials said. New Delhi, Jun 17 () Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia inspected 50 isolation coaches stationed at Shakur Basti Railway station on Wednesday, and said the Delhi government was trying its best to make beds available for COVID-19 patients in the city. He expressed concern over relatively high temperatures inside the isolation coaches, saying this will make it problematic for the medical staff to work while wearing heavy PPE kits. "We have been provided 50 coaches with 800 beds so far. I went to inspect these coaches... But soaring temperatures will make it problematic for our medical staff to operate while wearing heavy PPE kits," Sisodia was quoted as saying in a statement. "We are trying our best to improve the infrastructure and to come up with a solution so that we can begin deploying staff and admitting patients in these isolation centres," the deputy chief minister said. However, railway officials said, so far 503 isolation coaches have been deployed at nine stations in Delhi, days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the announcement as part of measures to contain the novel coronavirus pandemic. While Anand Vihar railway station has got the lion's share with 267 such coaches at its seven platforms, there 50 each in Shakur Basti and Sarai Rohilla. New Delhi, Jun 15 () The Railways will deploy 200 more isolation coaches for coronavirus patients in Delhi on Tuesday, taking their total number in the national capital to 250, officials said Monday. After directions from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Railways on Monday deployed 40 isolation coaches at Shakurbasti Railway Station, where it already had 10. Officials said 180 coaches will be deployed at Anand Vihar Railway Station from Tuesday and 20 more at other stations in the national capital. On Sunday, the Northern Railways issued orders reserving its seven platforms at the Anand Vihar Railway Station for COVID-19 care coaches and moved its five trains scheduled to be operated from there to the Old Delhi Railway station. The Railways on Monday said it has formed a joint team with the Delhi government to identify locations for the deployment of the 500 COVID care coaches which have been given to the capital city, which has seen a spike in number of coronavirus cases. It recorded 1,647 fresh cases on Monday, taking the tally in the city to 42,829, and the death toll due to the disease climbed to 1,400, authorities said. Seventy-three fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, the Delhi health department said in a bulletin late Monday evening. Chairman Railway Board, VK Yadav said on Monday that each of the COVID care centres will be under the care of the chief medical officer of the state. "We have already placed 10 coaches in Delhi's Shakurbasti on May 31 and we placed 40 more yesterday. So, 50 coaches with 800 beds are read to be occupied. We have earmarked 500 coaches for Delhi and we are jointly working with the Delhi government to finalise locations. "A joint team is working on it. The main objective is for the centre and the state government to work as a team and see that we succeed in fighting the pandemic," Yadav said. Yadav also said that each COVID care centre at every location will be linked to the nearest hospital so that patients can be moved there quickly in case of an emergency. He also said that the Railways has appointed nodal officers for each state who will liaison with the local government for such isolation coaches. Sources said that the meeting called by Shah discussed every aspect of the coronavirus situation. However, the issue of lockdown in the national capital did not come up. The meeting, also attended by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Lt Governor Anil Baijal, comes in the wake of coronavirus cases in Delhi rising to nearly 39,000 and the death of over 1,200 people. The number of coronavirus cases in Delhi is the third highest in the country after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Taking to Twitter after the meeting, Shah said that the testing of COVID-19 will be doubled in Delhi in the next two days and subsequently increased by three times. In view of shortage of beds for coronavirus infected patients in Delhi, the Modi government has decided to immediately provide 500 railway coaches which will be equipped with all facilities, he said. Also, detailed guidelines will be issued for conducting the last rites of those who succumb to the deadly virus. The meeting comes two days after the Supreme Court lashed out at the AAP government, describing as "horrific" the state of affairs in Delhi hospitals with bodies being stacked next to COVID-19 patients. It had also expressed concern over fewer tests being conducted in the national capital and had directed ramping up of testing. The Union Health ministry put the number of positive cases at 82, eight more since Thursday night, which includes the woman and a 76-year-old man from Karnataka who became the country's first coronavirus fatality besides 17 foreign nationals, Health Ministry officials said. Health Ministry and Delhi government officials said the woman came in contact with her son, the fifth case of coronavirus in the national capital, with a history travel history to Switzerland and Italy between February 5 and 22. Her death was caused due to co-morbidity (diabetes and hypertension), they said, adding she had tested positive for COVID-19. The woman was admitted in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, officials said. Cases of the infection have been reported from at least 11 states and territories, including Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala, where three patients were discharged last month after they recovered. Addressing reporters, officials said coronavirus -- a pandemic that has infected 1,31,500 people in 116 countries and territories and killed more than 4,900 -- is not a health emergency and there is no need to panic. Non-essential official gatherings such as seminars, workshops and conferences are to be cancelled, Patnaik said. "Sixty coaches have been requisitioned by Telangana at Secunderabad, Kachiguda and Adilabad. Ten coaches have been requisitioned by Delhi. Each coach has a capacity for 16 beds. "However, the composition of the COVID care centres (rakes) will be decided as per the requirements of the state. As of now, Telangana which has asked for 60 coaches will get 960 beds which they can use in the three locations they have identified. Uttar Pradesh has asked for 240 coaches," railway spokesperson said. Uttar Pradesh on Thursday reported 24 more deaths and 478 new coronavirus cases, the biggest single-day spike in both numbers so far as the state battles a COVID-19 surge. Amid the surge in cases, Uttar Pradesh has asked for a minimum of 10 COVID care centres coach at 24 railway stations including Varanasi City, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Gonda, Bareilly City, Saharanpur, Sonbhadra, Azamgarh and others. In Delhi, the COVID care centre consists of 10 non-AC coaches with 160 beds and three AC coaches for healthcare staffers, including doctors. These coaches are the first of the 5,321 coaches which have been converted into isolation wards by the railways for the treatment of coronavirus patients. According to the integrated COVID plan developed by the health ministry and the NITI Aayog, these coaches can be used in areas where the state has exhausted the facilities and needs to augment capacities for isolation of both suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases. The train coaches have all necessary medical equipment such as oxygen cylinders, blankets, medical supplies, sterilized berths for the safety and convenience of the individuals placed in isolation. According to the Railway Ministry, these coaches-turned-isolation wards will be equipped with mosquito nets, charging points for laptop and phones. The toilets also have been modified into bathrooms. These coaches have been modified at a cost of Rs 2 lakh each. Some of these coaches were ready for deployment by April 11, officials said. But I found myself not being extremely passionate about it — unless it's centred around sports or things that involve health, training. (Eds: Updating) New Delhi, May 15 () The coronavirus death toll in Delhi has mounted to 123, even as the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the national capital rose to 8,895 on Friday, authorities said.On Thursday, the city had recorded 472 fresh cases, the highest single-day spike.In a bulletin issued on Thursday, the Delhi health department said the death toll from the coronavirus infection has risen to 123. The cumulative death figures refers to fatalities where primary cause of death was found to be as COVID-19, as per reports of the Death Audit Committee on the basis of case sheets received from various hospitals, it said.On Thursday, the the total number of cases stood at 8,470, including 115 deaths. With 425 fresh cases, the total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi has mounted to 8,895. Of the total number of deceased patients, 62 were aged 60 and above, accounting for over 50 per cent of the fatalities here.Thirty-five of them were aged between 50-59 years and 26 were less than 50 years, the bulletin said.Facing criticism for "under reporting" COVID-19 deaths, the Delhi government on Sunday had issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for hospitals and other health facilities in the city on reporting fatalities due to coronavirus.As many as 3,518 patients have recovered so far, while there are 5,254 active cases, the Delhi health department said. A total of 1,25,189 COVID-19 tests have been conducted till date, it said.The total number of coronavirus positive patients under home isolation stands at 1643, it said.Out of the total 8,895 cases recorded so far, at least 1,719 are admitted at various hospitals like LNJP Hospital, RML Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) and AIIMS Jhajjhar, the heath department said, adding that 154 of them are in ICU and 26 on ventilators. Delhi recorded 7,486 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the infection tally in the city to over five lakh, while 131 new fatalities, the highest single-day death count till date, pushed the toll to 7,943, authorities said. With medical facilities under strain, as many as 45 doctors and 160 paramedics of the paramilitary forces have also arrived in the capital to serve the people. A day after Kejriwal spoke of reimposing certain restrictions, <keyword id="9366533" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-delhi-disaster-management-authority">the Delhi Disaster Management Authority</keyword> on Wednesday reverted to the earlier cap of 50 guests at marriage functions instead of 200 allowed through its October 31 order. I will also ask the chief minister to improve facilities like ICU beds at its hospitals in Delhi so that more patients can be treated there," Gupta said. He said, "We had a meeting with doctors at GTB Hospital and they have agreed to add 238 ICU beds in the next two days." "In all, 663 ICU beds shall be added in various Delhi hospitals in the next few days," he said. While capping the number of 50 guests at wedding functions, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, in an order, said that the decision was taken in view of the sudden surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the city, which has further been aggravated due to rising pollution levels owing to various factors. "In closed spaces, a maximum of 50 percent of the hall capacity will be allowed, with a ceiling of 50 persons. Wearing of face masks, maintaining social distancing, provision for thermal scanning and use of hand wash or sanitizer will continue to be mandatory," Dev said. He also said, "In open spaces, keeping the size of the ground/space in view, subject to a ceiling of 50 persons and with strict observance of social distancing, mandatory wearing of face masks...." On Tuesday, Delhi recorded 6,396 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the infection tally to over 4.95 lakh, while 99 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 7,812.
