Clubhouse for Android is now available in India, but it may be too little too late

The app is currently available on Apple App Store and has been downloaded more than 8 million times. However, Android users can download the app from Play Store but can't use it. The app has been downloaded over a million times on Play Store. In India, it has been downloaded over 12,000 times, according to third-party data. "Opened the app just to realize there is no signup. I'm guessing only iPhone users are able to use it currently. Until the signup button issue is fixed, I don't see why the app is currently available to download in Play Store," a user wrote in the app's review section. "I think if this app is available in Play Store, I can use it? But the reality I can't use this app to signup and login because, in fact, Clubhouse is just for iOS users. It is very disappointing. If you want this app for iOS users then just make it available on App Store not in Play Store," mentioned another user. Apparently, Clubhouse's user base has grown more than four times since December 2020, according to data from research firm App Annie. Clubhouse launched back in April 2020, and by May 2020 it had just 1,500 users. Social audio app Clubhouse lands on Google Play Store but can't sign up

Already available on Android and iOS under testing, the new Clubhouse-like audio chat rooms <keyword id="6399502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="feature">feature</keyword> called Spaces by Twitter will soon be available on desktops too. App researcher Jane Manchun Wong first spotted the arrival of Spaces on the web version. "Twitter is working on @TwitterSpaces preview cards for the web app," she posted in a tweet. Twitter to bring Clubhouse-like audio chat rooms feature Spaces to desktops too

Spaces will be available on https://Twitter.com (mobile web and desktop web). The focus areas will be infrastructure and listening UI that adapts to screen size, setting reminders for scheduled spaces and accessibility and transcriptions, the company said. Taking on invite-only audio chat app <keyword id="1293839" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="clubhouse">Clubhouse</keyword>, Twitter earlier this month announced to make Spaces available to users with 600 followers or more on both iOS and Android platforms. Google Play’s Best of 2021 India Awards: BGMI, Garena Free Fire MAX, Bitclass and Clubhouse top the ranks this year

Researchers have now discovered a total of 12 apps in the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/here-are-the-winners-of-google-plays-best-of-2021-in-india/articleshow/87997438.cms">Play Store</a> that were used to steal people’s bank account details, and these apps were downloaded 300,000 times. These apps were<a href="https://www.threatfabric.com/blogs/deceive-the-heavens-to-cross-the-sea.html"> posing</a> as QR code scanners, PDF scanners, and even cryptocurrency wallets, according to researchers at ThreatFabric. The apps belonged to four different <keyword id="1019130" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="android-malware" source="Orion">Android malware</keyword> versions, and were designed to steal people’s online banking passwords as well as two-factor authentication codes. The malware even captured keystrokes and could take screenshots of users’ phones. So how did the apps bypass Google’s security check? These apps were first distributed as a legitimate app with no malware and worked as they were advertised which made users think there’s nothing wrong here. The apps also had positive reviews in the Google Play Store which would make them look more legitimate. Users were then asked to install software updates from third-party sources for additional features. Through these updates, a very advanced <keyword id="8632255" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="android-banking-trojan" source="Orion">Android banking trojan</keyword> ‘Anatsa’ would be installed in the victims’ phones. This Android trojan is capable of giving hackers remote access to a victim’s phone and wiping out one’s bank account by transferring all the money to their account. In addition to Anatsa, these apps also had other Android malware including Alien, Hydra and Ermac. Among the kind of apps that these malware were injected into, the most popular were scanning apps, a crypto tracking app and workout apps. These apps with four large Android malware families were spread in a span of only four months, and were downloaded 300,000 times. ThreatFabric also highlighted how this is actually a small malicious footprint, and this is due to the new Google Play restrictions that puts limitations on app permissions such as Accessibility Service. This was one of the commonly used methods of installing malware on phones but hackers are now resorting to download updates after the app is installed. Android apps that steal banking details were downloaded 300,000 times in just 4 months

Twitter on Wednesday announced it is testing <keyword id="3527677" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="voice-messages">voice messages</keyword> in <keyword id="1601729" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Direct-messages">direct messages</keyword> (DMs) up to 140-seconds long in India. The experiment will be rolled out in phases to the audiences, making India one of three countries to have access to the feature, alongside Brazil and Japan. According to the company, voice messages in DMs will make it easier for people to have conversations. "We're excited to bring the voice messages in DMs experiment to the country and give people a new way to express themselves and help them connect through the nuances, emotion, and empathy built by hearing someone's voice," said Manish Maheshwari, Managing Director, <keyword id="749437" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter-India">Twitter India</keyword>. Each voice message can be upto 140 seconds long and can help people chat quickly - whether on the move or when there's just too much to type. "We are dedicated to giving people more options to express themselves in conversations on Twitter - both publicly and privately," said Alex Ackerman-Greenberg, Product Manager for direct messages at Twitter. This is how the new feature will work. In a DM conversation, tap the new voice recording icon once to begin recording. Tap the stop icon when you're done and you'll have the option to listen to your recording before sending or deleting it. Alternatively, on iOS, you can also quick-send by holding down the voice recording icon and swiping up to send immediately after you're done talking. Anyone will have the ability to listen to these messages wherever and however they use Twitter, but the ability to record voice messages over DM will be available for people on Twitter for iOS and Android in India, Japan and Brazil. <ul><li><keyword id="193871" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Electronic-Arts">Electronic Arts</keyword> has confirmed that <keyword id="7297985" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="apex-legends-mobile">Apex Legends Mobile</keyword> beta is finally making its way to mobile devices later this month. </li><li>India and the Philippines will be the first countries to get beta access to the game, but only on Android for now. </li><li>The beta testing is said to last for around a year before the final version is released.</li></ul>Popular game publisher Electronic Arts announced that its popular PC/console title <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/entertainment/video-games/8-reasons-why-apex-legends-is-the-best-battle-royale-game-available/articleshow/68897314.cms">Apex Legends</a> is finally close to making its way to mobile devices. Although the game is still not in the development phase, some players from select countries will be given a chance to test the game. The company first announced its plan to release the mobile version of the game two years ago. Now, with a new trailer of the PC/console version of the game, EA revealed that it will begin rolling out the beta of the mobile version in select countries. The beta is said to enrol only a few thousand players initially. Players in India and the Philippines will be the first ones to get a taste of the beta version of <keyword id="7294885" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="apex-legends">Apex Legends</keyword> Mobile. But it is said to be expanded to more countries later on. The publisher has also confirmed that the first beta will be available only on the Android platform initially. India and Philippines will be the first countries to get Apex Legends Mobile beta later this month

More than 20.61 lakh tests for detection of COVID-19 were conducted in a span of 24 hours in the country, the highest-ever tests done in a <keyword id="1275470" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="single-day">single day</keyword>, while the daily positivity rate has declined to 12.59 per cent, the <keyword id="83655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-health-ministry">Union health ministry</keyword> said on Friday. <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>'s COVID-19 daily recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the eighth consecutive day, with 3,57,295 patients recuperating in a span of 24 hours. The cumulative recoveries have reached 2,27,12,735 in the country, it said. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 32,44,17,870 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus infection till May 20 with 20,61,683 samples being tested on Thursday. Further, India has recorded less than 3 lakh new cases for five consecutive days now. Ten states--Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, <keyword id="37102" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Assam--reported 76.66 per cent of the 2,59,551 new cases registered in a day, the ministry said. <keyword id="20154" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> has reported the highest daily new cases at 35,579 followed by Kerala with 30,491 cases. On the other hand, India's COVID-19 active caseload decreased to 30,27,925, with a net decline of 1,01,953 cases being recorded in the total active caseload. The ministry said eight states namely Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, cumulatively account for 69.47 per cent of the country's total active cases. Besides, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country exceeded 19 crore. A total of 19,18,79,503 vaccine doses have been administered through 27,53,883 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am on Friday. These include 97,24,339 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose and 66,80,968 HCWs who have taken the second dose; 1,47,91,600 frontline workers (FLWs) who have received the first dose, 82,85,253 FLWs the second dose and 86,04,498 beneficiaries in the 18-44 years age group who received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Besides, 5,98,35,256 and 95,80,860 beneficiaries aged 45 to 60 years have been administered the first and second doses, respectively, while 5,62,45,627 and 1,81,31,102 beneficiaries aged above 60 years have taken the first and second doses, respectively, the ministry added.
