Flipkart said it will go for a phased integration of electric vehicles into its entire fleet -- directly owned or leased corporate fleets -- by 2030. As the world celebrates World EV Day, <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s significant progress in adopting <keyword id="19895203" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="electric-vehicles" source="keywords">electric vehicles</keyword> (EVs) across various categories is commendable, however, there is still a long way to go. The government of India's <keyword id="23096041" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vaahan-Dashboard" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Vaahan Dashboard" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Vaahan Dashboard">Vaahan Dashboard</keyword> data shows an increasing trend to shift towards green mobility solutions. The most notable trend in EV penetration has been witnessed in the three-wheeler category, where EVs have surged ahead in overall sales. According to the data, 53.61% of all new three-wheeler vehicles purchased this year (2024) were electric, making this segment the leader in <keyword id="20421629" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EV-adoption" source="keywords">EV adoption</keyword>. The two-wheeler segment has also shown encouraging signs of EV adoption, with electric vehicles accounting for 4.97% of all two-wheeler sales so far in 2024. While the percentage is lower compared to <keyword id="20412606" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="three-wheelers" source="keywords">three-wheelers</keyword>, the two-wheeler category holds significant potential for growth, given its dominance in India's overall vehicle sales market. As more consumers seek cost-effective and <keyword id="20991927" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="environmentally-friendly" source="keywords">environmentally friendly</keyword> alternatives, the penetration of EVs in this segment is expected to grow further in the coming years. However, in the four-wheeler segment, the adoption of EVs remains relatively low, with electric cars making up just 2.14% of total car sales this year. Despite this, the increasing availability of EV models and government incentives are expected to drive further growth in this segment. Interestingly, the penetration of electric buses is higher than that of electric cars, with 3.20% of all new buses sold in 2024 being electric. This trend highlights the growing importance of sustainable public transport solutions as cities aim to reduce emissions and promote cleaner alternatives in mass transit. "Electric vehicles offer a very compelling solutions because they do not emit any tailpipe emissions so that improves their air quality that reduces their air pollution. It also reduces the carbon emission so it helps India to meet with its climate goals and generally, electric vehicles have lower operating cost as compared to the IC engine vehicles," said Samhita Shiledar, Director RMI to ANI. On a state-wise level, the Vaahan dashboard data highlighted that Goa leads the country in EV penetration, with 14.20% of all new vehicles sold this year being electric. Tripura ranks second, followed by Chandigarh in third place. Delhi also stands out with a 10.72% penetration of EVs in total vehicle sales, showcasing the capital's push towards sustainable urban mobility. On the other hand, Himachal Pradesh reported the lowest EV penetration, with only 1.09% of new vehicles sold being electric. In terms of total number of EV sales across all segments in India, the two-wheeler category dominates the electric vehicle market in India, accounting for approximately 51% of total EV sales this year. As World EV Day highlights the global commitment to cleaner mobility solutions, India's data reflects a promising shift but a long way to go towards electrification across various vehicle segments.

Jeep's CEO doesn't think there are enough raw materials on earth to meet electric-car demand

New Delhi, Nov 18 () Mobility start-up Bounce on Monday said it has tied-up with Exicom Tele-systems to foray into electric segment.
 Bounce is currently piloting with a few thousand scooters in Bengaluru and is looking to ramp up supply in the next 12 months.
 The company provides last mile connectivity via dockless scooters where users are allowed to pick up and drop a scooter at their place of convenience.
 "India is at the cusp of an electric mobility revolution and we at Bounce believe that we are in a position to accelerate these changes. We believe that electric mobility will take off first with shared mobility," Bounce CEO Vivekananda Hallekere said in a statement.
 Exicom Managing Director Anant Nahata said the company is delighted to support Bounce on this electrification journey by providing most advanced lithium-ion battery and efficient charging solutions.
 "This is the largest deployment of electric two-wheeler vehicles in shared mobility space in India and hope this is first of many steps in our goal of achieving emission free and clean mobility," he added.
 Within 10 months of launching services in Bengaluru, Bounce has completed over 5 million rides, covering 30 million km.

Mobility start-up Bounce joins hands with Exicom Tele-systems for electric foray

Electric two wheeler maker <keyword id="195740" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="hero-electric" source="Orion">Hero Electric</keyword> on Monday said it will set up a Rs 1,200 crore two million units per annum mega electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub in Rajasthan. The company said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government at the Invest Rajasthan summit. According to the company, the proposed unit will be located at Salarpur industrial region over 170 acres and start production by the end of of 2023. "This mega manufacturing facility is part of our capacity enhancement to boost EV adoption across India. It will allow the state to spearhead clean mobility solution shift and promote ecological tourism practices," Naveen Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Electric, said. CEO Sohinder Gill said: "Green field facility of this mega size and large budget gives us the opportunity to introduce very energy efficient green manufacturing processes with a healthy blend of automation using robotic arms and the nimble-fingered skills of the local artisan workforce, using the clean solar energy that state provides." The proposed facility will manufacture all the current and upcoming Hero Electric two-wheelers, Hero Electric said. Hero Electric to set up ₹1,200 crore EV manufacturing plant in Rajasthan

New Delhi, Jan 30 () Electric vehicles will become cheaper than combustion vehicles in three years as the price of battery packs of EVs is expected to fall by almost 51 per cent per unit, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Thursday.
Kant was speaking at the Mobility Talk Corporate Conclave at the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2020, TERI's annual flagship event being held in the capital.
"Electric vehicles will become much cheaper than combustion vehicles in three years. The price of battery packs of EVs is expected to fall to USD 76 per kilowatt hour (or unit) in three years, down from the present-day USD 156 per unit," he said.
Reaffirming the national vision towards moving to clean mobility, Kant said, given its size and scale of growth potential, Indian industry must be the biggest driver of change to make the country the centre for manufacturing EVs.
"There are two challenges to address: to ensure new form of urbanisation which is based on public transportation, and to ensure India doesn't lose out among global manufactures of tomorrow," Kant said.
Representatives from the auto industry in the session welcomed the direction given by the NITI Aayog CEO, and sought clarity on pathways and policy that the government is looking to take on EVs.
They urged the government to quickly develop a road map, whether to focus on hybrid or fully electric mobility, and policies that can promote indigenous research and development.
Casting his vote in favour of strengthening public transport, Kant said it is essential that innovative and sustainable development is backed by embedding the cities with public transportation and not by private vehicles.
He also stressed on the use of CNG-based transport for travel within cities, liquefied natural gas (LNG) for intercity, and in the long-run, a focus on hydrogen as fuel, especially for public transport.
TERI DG Ajay Mathur said there is a need to decarbonise key sectors such as road economy and in the process push a transition to 100 per cent green electricity-based mobility.
"In order to move towards a shared, connected and zero-emission world, and to realise the full benefits of EVs, it is important that the battery is charged with clean power and not fossil power," he said. AG AG ABH

EVs will be cheaper than combustion vehicles in 3 years: Amitabh Kant

Industry players on Monday hailed the government's move to enhance the scheme outlay of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (<keyword id="19912965" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fame" source="keywords">FAME</keyword>) <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> <keyword id="20527557" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="phase-ii" source="keywords">Phase II</keyword>, saying it will enhance infrastructure, foster widespread adoption and longevity of electric vehicles across the country. The Ministry of Heavy Industries announced that the scheme outlay of FAME India Phase II has been enhanced from Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 11,500 crore under FAME India scheme Phase II in order to give a further push to clean mobility in the country. The ministry also said that it is a "fund and term limited scheme", which means that the subsidies for demand incentive will be eligible for e-two-wheelers, e-three-wheelers, and e-four-wheelers sold till March 31, 2024 or till the time the funds are available, whichever is earlier. "We applaud the government's decision to enhance the FAME India Scheme Phase II outlay to Rs 11,500 crore. This timely boost in investment is a shot in the arm for the EV industry, accelerating its growth trajectory and paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future," VG Anil, CEO of EV battery manufacturer Arenq. The main objective of the scheme is to encourage faster adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles by way of offering upfront incentives on purchase of EV and also by establishing a necessary charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. "This Rs 1,500 crore boost sends a clear message: India is serious about electrifying its mobility landscape. Lower upfront costs for EVs, coupled with enhanced charging infrastructure, will incentivize riders to choose eco-friendly travel, accelerating the transition to a zero-emission future," Mayank Bindal, Founder and CEO, <keyword id="20078292" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="snap-e-cabs" source="keywords">Snap E Cabs</keyword>, told IANS. The number of EV charging stations that are operating in the country has gone up to 12,146 (as of February 2 this year), according to the government data. Industry hails extension of FAME II scheme to bolster EV infra

New Delhi, Dec 24 () Auto industry body SIAM on Tuesday said the electric vehicle policy announced by the Delhi government would help encourage consumers to adopt electric vehicles.
 Some of the welcome announcements in the policy include measures which would make electric vehicles affordable and acceptable, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Director General Rajesh Menon said in a statement.
 These include purchase incentives, interest subvention, scrappage incentive, waiver on road tax, waiver on registration and parking fees and measures to push charging infrastructure, he added.
 Similarly, Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) also lauded the policy unveiled by the Delhi government.
 "We are delighted to see the Delhi government take the lead in making EVs more appealing to customers...I am thankful that the government considered most of our recommendations including the conversion of commercial ICE vehicles into electric, E-bike taxi and more such alternatives as they are the key drivers in taking the e-mobility momentum forward," SMEV Director General and Hero Electric CEO Sohinder Gill said.
 These additional incentives apart from the subsidy offered by the central government would definitely encourage more people to switch to clean mobility, he added.
 With the introduction of this policy, SMEV is certain that Delhi will lead by example and more states will also emulate such measures to give a boost to the EV industry.
 "If a similar policy is adopted at the national level, we are confident that the electric mobility revolution at a mass scale will kickstart in the country," Gill noted.
 On Monday, the Delhi Cabinet gave approval to an electric vehicle policy.
 Under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2019, the city government is providing a subsidy of Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity on the purchase of two-wheelers. Incentive of up to Rs 5,000 will be offered for scrapping a non-electric two-wheeler vehicle and switching to an electric vehicle.
 The purchase subsidy of four-wheelers is Rs 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity for the first 1,000 cars subject to a cap of Rs 1,50,000 per vehicle. The Delhi government also aims to transition 50 per cent of the newly-purchased buses into electric buses by 2024 and 100 per cent by 2030. There will be no road tax on registration fees on electric vehicles.
 All two-wheelers engaged in last-mile deliveries, such as food delivery vehicles, courier services, and e-commerce logistics, will be expected to transition 50 per cent of their fleet to electric by March 2023, and 100 per cent of their fleet to electric by March 2025, stipulates the policy.
 The purchase subsidy on electric autos, e-rickshaws, and e-carriers is up to Rs 30,000 and loans on a subsidy of 5 per cent will be provided to them, he said.

As the coronavirus is wreaking havoc across the world and posing one of the biggest challenges to humanity, the devastating effect of this crisis on economies is very much visible, with the impact only expected to increase in the coming months, NRI India said in its report.Product development, procurement, manufacturing, finance, logistics, sales, marketing and after sales are some of the challenges faced at each stage of the value chain, based on the context and configuration of each stage for different players, the report said.It recommended that product development measures aimed at significant trimming of cost to market for new products, and evolving customer needs, for example, adoption of cosmetic design changes to facilitate ease of surface disinfecting, will be key enablers, along with continued focus on existing clean mobility solutions for stabilising business in the COVID-19 phase.Push for localisation and ensuring supply continuity along with critical review of inventory policies based on supply hiccups, in-plant stay of labour, enhanced health and safety practices and increase in degree of automation along with investment in digitisation are the few key suggestions in the report.The report also called for consistency on government policies related to safety, and emissions to avoid undue stress and continuity of business plans along with stimulus packages to catalyse the restart of the industry."Evolving product features based on emerging hygiene and disinfection needs, localization, increased degree of automation, digitization and innovations in financing, and a set of economic stimulus by the government are the needs of hour that will see us through this crisis," said Ashim Sharma, Partner &amp; Group Head for Business Performance Improvement (Auto, Engineering &amp; Logistics), NRI Consulting &amp; Solutions."This crisis brings to the fore an opportunity for Indian auto part makers to increase their participation in the global value chain by becoming an alternative to China in the changing geopolitical world order and for this in some cases, a technology acquisition maybe imperative," the report said.Given the financial distress across the world, the more financially sound players in the country could also acquire firms and technologies in this period and that would help position them as effective alternatives while also furthering the true 'Make in India" spirit, it added. Auto industry needs low cost products, localisation to stabilise biz post Covid-19: Report

Venture firms Vaizra and Boldstart co-led the round with participation from Lerer Ventures, David Tisch's Box Group, Gary Vaynerchuk's Vayner RSE, and angel investors. 
RebelMail, which is based in Washington, D.C., takes an email marketing campaign and adds instant check-out to the message rather than redirecting readers to a website. It dumbs down the multi-step purchasing process and puts it all in a single email, which translates into a clean mobile shopping experience.
The founders, Joe Teplow and Trever Faden, were surprised to see investors clamor to fund their two-person startup. A source close to the company says the valuation jumped three times during their fundraising process. The pair were only planning to raise a small pre-seed round of a few hundred thousand dollars, this person says, but after one month, VCs had committed multiple millions.
"We were two relatively unknown founders," Teplow told Business Insider when reached for comment about the fundraise. "We were going to raise a small amount of money because our initial email tests were going so well and we wanted to hire quickly. But the pre-seed quickly turned into a seed round which then turned into a larger seed round." 
David Tisch says of RebelMail's hot round, "I think the product got people excited, and they had early customer reactions." 
Another person explained that the quick email checkout product RebelMail is building is the "holy grail" for marketers, increasing engagement and purchases.
Faden and Teplow, who participated in Silicon Valley accelerator program Y Combinator, came up with RebelMail together.

The email list grew from ten of Teplow's close friends to more than 300 people who were donating up to $1 per day. Last year, Teplow's email project donated more than $30,000 to charities. 
"The emails would say, 'Hey guys, today's charity is Alzheimer's. Click on which of the two charities you want your 25 cents to go to,'" Teplow explained. The open rates and engagement metrics were impressive, with 75% of subscribers opening the emails daily and 65% clicking on one of the two charities.
"I became obsessed with email as an interface," he says. 
While Teplow brought quick payments to the table, he needed Trevor's help to embed form fields in emails.

That was the first time I saw a form field in an email. I filled it out, then called him and said, 'How the heck did you do that?'"
After that conversation, Teplow dug up a J. Crew email campaign in his inbox. He mocked up what the campaign could look like with a form field and instant check-out added to it.
"At the end of the day we had a J. Crew email on our hands that looked really good and functioned great," says Teplow. "And it took full advantage of what's possible on an iPhone."
The next few months were spent lining up small e-commerce companies to test RebelMail's new, interactive emails. "The companies sent out static emails and our interactive emails and we were blown away by the increases in engagement." The pair will use their recently-raised millions to hire more people and fulfill campaigns for even larger e-commerce shops.
