"As we shift gears towards our collective goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, I am confident that organisations like SIAM will continue to bring together all stakeholders and become a force multiplier in this mission," he said. The prime minister said the road ahead demands that the country's progress is rapid, while also being sustainable. "Working (on) greener and cleaner mobility is a vital step in this direction. It is important that this climate-conscious and sustainable vision resonates with domestic and international partners," he asserted. "Further, at this critical juncture for India and the world, it is essential that our automobile sector set not only an example for others to follow, but also work towards bringing global best practices to India. I am confident that the discussions and deliberations during the Annual Convention will serve as a catalyst for this," he added. He further said, "Through innovation and enterprise, I am sure that the automotive industry will drive even higher economic growth and in turn, thrive on the demand growth that inevitably creates." He said over the last decade, India's automotive sector has witnessed tremendous and unprecedented growth. The most notable trend in EV penetration has been witnessed in the three-wheeler category, where EVs have surged ahead in overall sales. According to the data, 53.61% of all new three-wheeler vehicles purchased this year (2024) were electric, making this segment the leader in <keyword id="20421629" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EV-adoption" source="keywords">EV adoption</keyword>. The two-wheeler segment has also shown encouraging signs of EV adoption, with electric vehicles accounting for 4.97% of all two-wheeler sales so far in 2024. While the percentage is lower compared to <keyword id="20412606" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="three-wheelers" source="keywords">three-wheelers</keyword>, the two-wheeler category holds significant potential for growth, given its dominance in India's overall vehicle sales market. As more consumers seek cost-effective and <keyword id="20991927" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="environmentally-friendly" source="keywords">environmentally friendly</keyword> alternatives, the penetration of EVs in this segment is expected to grow further in the coming years. However, in the four-wheeler segment, the adoption of EVs remains relatively low, with electric cars making up just 2.14% of total car sales this year. Despite this, the increasing availability of EV models and government incentives are expected to drive further growth in this segment. Interestingly, the penetration of electric buses is higher than that of electric cars, with 3.20% of all new buses sold in 2024 being electric. This trend highlights the growing importance of sustainable public transport solutions as cities aim to reduce emissions and promote cleaner alternatives in mass transit. "Electric vehicles offer a very compelling solutions because they do not emit any tailpipe emissions so that improves their air quality that reduces their air pollution. It also reduces the carbon emission so it helps India to meet with its climate goals and generally, electric vehicles have lower operating cost as compared to the IC engine vehicles," said Samhita Shiledar, Director RMI to ANI. On a state-wise level, the Vaahan dashboard data highlighted that Goa leads the country in EV penetration, with 14.20% of all new vehicles sold this year being electric. Tripura ranks second, followed by Chandigarh in third place. Delhi also stands out with a 10.72% penetration of EVs in total vehicle sales, showcasing the capital's push towards sustainable urban mobility. On the other hand, Himachal Pradesh reported the lowest EV penetration, with only 1.09% of new vehicles sold being electric. In terms of total number of EV sales across all segments in India, the two-wheeler category dominates the electric vehicle market in India, accounting for approximately 51% of total EV sales this year. In this segment, most devices only get two years of Android updates so it is good to see Samsung offer four years of updates with the device. The device has its share of bloatware and comes with Facebook, Snapchat, Dailyhunt, Spotify, Netflix and other pre-installed applications. These applications can be uninstalled if you do not wish to use them. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance and battery" comment="subhead" text="Performance and battery">Performance and battery</cmsannotation> The smartphone is powered by the Exynos 1280 chipset, just like its predecessor. The device comes in two variants – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. Samsung should have offered a 256GB variant a lot of users are looking for larger storage these days. However, the company has offered microSD support in the second SIM slot. I played popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India and Call of Duty Mobile on the Galaxy M34 5G. While the device is able to run the game smoothly, we did notice the occasional lag during extended gaming sessions. The smartphone is powered by a huge 6,000mAh battery and offers 25W charging support. While the device comes with a Type-C to Type-C cable in the box, it does not come with a charger. A full charge easily offers over a day of usage for heavy users and two days of usage for normal users. If you are okay with a 128GB storage or are willing to use a microSD card, the Galaxy M34 5G is worth considering. Samsung Galaxy M34 5G review – a sub-₹20,000 phone with good battery life

We carry them everywhere, take them to bed, to the bathroom and for many people they're the first thing they see in the morning - more than 90 per cent of the world owns or uses a mobile <keyword id="10861" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="phone" source="Orion">phone</keyword> and many of us couldn't manage without one. But while health concerns about phones use usually focus on the distraction they can cause while driving, the possible effects of radiofrequency exposure, or just how addictive they can be. The microbial infection risk of your phone is much less appreciated - but it's very real. A 2019 survey found that most people in the UK use their phones on the toilet. So it's not surprising to discover studies have found our mobile phones to be dirtier that toilet seats. We give our phones to children to play with (who aren't exactly well known for their hygiene). We also eat while using our phones and put them down on all sorts of (dirty) surfaces. All of which can transfer microbes onto your phone along with food deposits for those microbes to eat. It's been estimated that people touch their phone hundreds if not thousands of times a day. And while many of us wash our hands regularly after say, going to the bathroom, cooking, cleaning, or gardening, we are much less likely to consider washing our hands after touching our phones. But given how disgusting and germ-infested phones can be, maybe it's time to think more about mobile phone hygiene. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Germs, bacteria, viruses" comment="subhead" text="Germs, bacteria, viruses">Germs, bacteria, viruses</cmsannotation> Hands pick up bacteria and viruses all the time and are recognised as a route for acquiring infection. So too are the phones we touch. A number of studies conducted on the microbiological colonisation of mobile phones show that they can be contaminated with many different kinds of potentially pathogenic bacteria. These include the diarrhoea-inducing E. coli (which, by the way, comes from human poo) and the skin-infecting Staphylococcus, as well as Actinobacteria, which can cause tuberculosis and diphtheria, Citrobacter, which can lead to painful urinary tract infections, and Enterococcus, which is known to cause meningitis. Klebsiella, Micrococcus, Proteus, Pseudomonas and Streptococcus have also been found on phones and all can have equally nasty effects on humans. Research has found that many pathogens on phones are often antibiotic resistant, meaning they can't be treated with conventional drugs. This is worrying as these bacteria can cause skin, gut and respiratory infections that can be life-threatening. Research has also found that even if you clean your phone with antibacterial wipes or alcohol it can still be recolonised by microorganisms, indicating that sanitisation must be a regular process. Phones contain plastic which can harbour and transmit viruses some of which (the common cold virus) can live on hard plastic surfaces for up to a week. Other viruses such as COVID-19, rotavirus (a highly infectious stomach bug that typically affects babies and young children), influenza and norovirus - which can cause serious respiratory and gut infections - can persist in an infectable form for several days. Indeed, since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has introduced guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting mobile phones - which, along with door handles, cash machines and lift buttons, are considered reservoirs of infection. In particular, concern has been raised about the role mobile phones can play in the spread of infectious microbes in hospital and healthcare settings, as well as in schools. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Clean your phone" comment="subhead" text="Clean your phone">Clean your phone</cmsannotation> So it's clear that you need to start cleaning your phone regularly. The US Federal Communications Commission actually recommends daily sanitation of your phone and other devices - not least because we are still within an active COVID-19 pandemic and the virus can survive for several days on hard plastic surfaces. Use alcohol-based wipes or sprays. They need to contain at least 70 per cent alcohol to disinfect phone casings and touch screens, and it needs to be done every day if possible. Do not spray sanitisers directly onto the phone and keep liquids away from connection points or other phone openings. Absolutely avoid using bleach or abrasive cleaners. And wash your hands thoroughly after you've finished cleaning. Thinking about how you handle your phone will also help to avoid it becoming colonised with germs. When not at home, keep your phone in your pocket, or bag and use a disposable paper list of to-do items, rather than constantly consulting your phone. Touch your phone with clean hands - washed with soap and water or disinfected with alcohol-based hand sanitiser. There are other things you can do to avoid your phone becoming a source of viruses. Do not share your phone with others if you have any infection, or have not first sanitised it. If children are allowed to play with your phone, sanitise it as soon as possible afterwards. And get in the habit of putting your phone away when not in use, then sanitising or washing your hands. You might also want to occasionally sanitise your phone charger when you are cleaning your phone. General Motors, the second-largest American automaker, said it would stop making gas-powered cars by 2035. And that's just the start of it. Let's jump in. <div type="image" title="Volta" height="2261" width="3015" msid="80589799" hostid="261"></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">Winners and losers in Biden's big day on climate </h2>Joe Biden has moved faster than any other US president to cut carbon emissions. On Wednesday, dubbed Climate Day, he signed a massive <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/27/executive-order-on-tackling-the-climate-crisis-at-home-and-abroad/">executive order</a> that unravels much of Trump's fossil-fuel legacy. What it does: Most significantly, the EO puts a pause on new federal oil leases and directs government agencies to electrify their massive fleet of vehicles. <ul style="text-align: left;"><li>It also sets a target of protecting 30% of all federal lands and waters by 2030, an initiative the conservation community knows as 30 by 30.</li><li>The order includes so much more. You can read the whole thing <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/27/executive-order-on-tackling-the-climate-crisis-at-home-and-abroad/">here</a>. </li><li>The EO follows several other executive actions Biden signed on his first day in office, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-president-biden-is-unraveling-trump-oil-legacy-2021-1">which I outlined last week</a>. </li></ul>What it means: The bottom line is that it's very good for the <keyword id="154273" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="clean-energy">clean energy</keyword> economy but hardly a fatal blow to fossil fuels. There are a few clear winners and losers: <ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Winner: Companies that make <keyword id="6358835" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Electric-cars">electric cars</keyword> and EV infrastructure. The government owns about <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-plans-replace-government-fleet-with-electric-vehicles-clean-energy-2021-1">650,000 vehicles</a>, and Biden said the fleet replacement will help create one million new jobs in the US auto industry, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-plans-replace-government-fleet-with-electric-vehicles-clean-energy-2021-1">Insider's Kate Duffy reports</a>. </li><li>Winner: Emerging technologies that fight climate change such as carbon capture and green hydrogen. The EO directs federal agencies to "identify new opportunities to spur innovation, commercialization, and deployment of clean energy technologies."</li><li>Winner: Global oil companies, possibly. Though this may be counterintuitive, the idea here is that increasing the cost of production, which Biden's actions may do, could raise the price of oil, which largely determines the profitability of these firms. Plus, international companies aren't really impacted by the leasing ban. </li><li>Loser: Smaller oilfield service companies. A ban on federal oil leasing will be "very dramatic" for firms that supply oil companies with services such as seismic surveying, Rystad Energy said in a note this week. </li><li>Surprisingly not a loser: US exploration and production firms. The leasing ban won't do much to constrict oil production. Companies have been stockpiling leases and the ban doesn't apply to permitting, so it shouldn't do much to ebb near-term extraction. </li></ul>A note for investors: Morgan Stanley has some thoughts on how investors can profit from Biden's clean-energy push. One thing I liked about the device is that the bezels are evenly distributed. The tall display is great for watching content and gaming and is quite bright, even in direct sunlight. I liked the display; my only issue was the lack of protection. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software and performance" comment="subhead" text="Software and performance">Software and performance</cmsannotation> If you have used a Vivo or iQOO smartphone in the past, you will find the UI has not changed much. The iQOO Neo 7 runs on Android 13 out of the box with the company’s Funtouch OS 13 on top. Funtouch OS 13 is a highly customized Android version with several features. The iQOO Neo 7 has its fair share regarding bloatware, like BYJU’s, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and more. The user interface (UI) is highly customizable, and while many may like this, if you are a fan of a clean UI, which is close to stock, the iQOO Neo 7 may not be your cup of tea. Coming to performance, the iQOO Neo 7 is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. I tested the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. The Dimensity 8200 is a powerful chipset and can easily handle whatever tasks you throw at it. I did not face any issues while multitasking, despite opening several apps. The main highlight of the device is its gaming experience. In addition to the powerful chipset, the device is equipped with a vapor chamber and a 3D graphite structure for cooling. I used the Neo 7 to play popular titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9. I enjoyed playing both games on the device, and they performed really well. iQOO has added a “Monster Mode” that juices up the device to get the best performance from the processor, but it does take a toll on the battery life. This makes it easier to aim and kill your enemies. The iQOO Neo 7 is a great option for gamers looking for a powerful device without burning a hole in their pocket. Another area where the iQOO Neo 7 excels is the battery department. It is equipped with a large 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. The device can be charged from 0 to 50% in 10 minutes; a full charge takes 25 minutes. The device lasted a day during my testing with some gaming and YouTube usage.
