The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here amid demand from students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to cancel it. The CBSE Board exams were scheduled to be held from May 4 to June 7 and the results were to be announced by July 15. "The Board Exams for Class Xth to be held from 4th May to June 14th, 2021 are hereby cancelled. The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board," Nishank tweeted. "Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him or her on this basis, will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams," the Minister said. Nishank further said that the Class 12 exams will be held later and the situation reviewed on June 1 by the CBSE, and the details will be shared subsequently. "A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations." The Minister mentioned that the decision was taken after Prime Minister Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation. CBSE Class 10 board exams cancelled, Class 12 exams postponed as COVID-19 cases surge

The Supreme Court on Thursday said the ongoing exam process cannot be suddenly made online, which may result in rescheduling the examination, as it junked a plea by a group of students seeking directions to conduct term exams for Classes 10 and 12 for the <keyword id="6356155" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cbse" source="Orion">CBSE</keyword> and ICSE boards via hybrid mode, rather than physical. A bench comprising Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and C.T. Ravikumar told the petitioners' counsel: "Don't mess up with the education system. Let the authorities continue their work..." The bench noted that if the court were to interfere at this stage, it may lead to practical difficulties as the exams have already commenced. The bench told senior advocate <keyword id="4752448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanjay-hedge" source="Orion">Sanjay Hedge</keyword>, representing the petitioners: "Exams are going on. Let us be practical. Now how can it be online...It's too late now and exams cannot be rescheduled." Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, assured the top court that Covid concerns have been taken care of and all necessary precautions have been put in place, to conduct the exams. Mehta said: "Earlier 40 students sat in a class, but now only 12 students will be sitting in a class so that there is social distancing. Number of exam centers has been increased to 15,000..." Noting that the petitioners have moved the top court late, the bench said the last-minute business should not be encouraged and declined to entertain the petition. The petitioners argued that the CBSE and ICSE boards, conducting exams via physical mode, are acting in contravention of Covid guidelines. The exams for Classes 10 and 12 students for the academic year 2021-22 are scheduled to be held from November 16 and November 22. The petitioners contended that about 26,000 schools are affiliated to the <keyword id="64578" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse-board" source="Orion">CBSE Board</keyword> alone and at any rate, such continuous exposure through offline exams sharply increases the risk of infection to Covid-19 rendering the impugned action as arbitrary and in violation of right to health. Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna asked the Centre to clarify the issue of taking the option between internal assessment and exams later. "Clarify the date of results," said the bench, noting that the CBSE will have to submit a fresh draft notification cancelling class 12 Board exams and affidavit on Friday morning, before the top court continues to hear the matter again at 10.30 a.m. The apex court also sought clarity on the beginning of the new academic year. It told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, that the CBSE is willing to conduct exams when the situation is conducive, but this may vary from state to state. "Will the decision be taken by a central authority or will the state government take the decision? How are you going to deal with that situation?" Mehta replied that the decision must be taken according to the situation. To this, the bench said should not the solution be pan-India? "You have not said when you will decide on this issue, and when you will take stock of these things. Some time frame will have to be given," noted the bench. Continuing its queries, the bench said: "What about state regional board exams... the CBSE does not hold all the exams. The state Board is also there." Mehta replied that the instructions from the controller of examinations are that exams are controlled centrally. "State boards assist the CBSE," he replied. The bench observed that the government should modify the draft notification and include the state board issue. "Clear the stand that decision will be taken at the central level and not at the state level... other courses will have to be delayed till CBSE exam results come out," it said. Mehta replied the assessment results will be published now, and if a student wants to opt to give the exam, then that will be conducted later. The top court asked Mehta to bring this on record and redraft the notification.

SC asks CBSE for more details on class 12's internal assessment and 'exams later' option

Jharkhand class 12th arts results 2019: Pass percentage is 79.97%, up from last year

Suresh Kumar on Wednesday said that the state will hold the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Board Examination (Class 10) for the 2020-21 academic year in the first week of June while the board examination of Pre-University Course (PUC II/Class 12) will be held in the second week of May. The minister took to his official Twitter handle to break the news on Wednesday evening and added that all the details regarding the exam, and the syllabus will be sent to <keyword id="37180" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="schools">schools</keyword> by the government. Karnataka decided to reopen its schools and PU colleges after a prolonged closedown of over nine months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Schools for students studying in Class 10 and 12 and the Vidyagama for Class 6 to 9 reopened on January 1. Since the schools reopened, attendance continues to grow among Class 10, 12 and Vidyagama students. Of the 4,24,250 students enrolled in 5,492 PU colleges in the state, as many as 2,42,886 (57.25 per cent) were present and out of 9,29,130 enrolled in Class 10 in 16,850 high schools of the <keyword id="162026" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-board">state board</keyword>, as many as 4,77,051, (51.34 per cent) were present on Tuesday. Vidyagama saw an attendance of 6,30,557 students which was more than the four lakh odd students that were present on Monday.
