Over 65 lakh students did not pass <keyword id="19951608" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="class-10" source="keywords">class 10</keyword> and 12 <keyword id="19954615" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="board-exams" source="keywords">board exams</keyword> across the country last year with the failure rate being higher in <keyword id="22866974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-boards" source="keywords">state boards</keyword> than the central board, according to Ministry of Education (<keyword id="20349630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MoE" source="keywords">MoE</keyword>) officials. An analysis of class 10 and 12 results of 59 school boards, including 56 state boards and three national boards, revealed that more girls appeared in class 12 exam from government-managed schools but it is opposite in private schools and government-aided schools. "Around 33.5 lakh students of class 10 are not reaching next grade. While 5.5 lakh candidates did not appear, 28 lakh failed. This is one of the cause for low retention rate and Gross Enrolment Ration (GER) at higher secondary level," a senior MoE official said. Similarly, around 32.4 lakh class 12 students did not complete the grade. While 5.2 lakh did not appear, 27.2 lakh failed. In class 10, the student failure rate in central board stood at 6 per cent while that of state boards was much higher at 16 per cent. In class 12, the failure rate at central board is 12 per cent while that of state boards is 18 per cent. The ministry officials noted that the open school performance was poor in both the classes. The highest number of student failure in class 10 was in Madhya Pradesh board followed by Bihar and UP. While in class 12, the highest student failure was reported from Uttar Pradesh followed by Madhya Pradesh. "Overall performance of students in 2023 declined in comparison with previous year. This could be due to larger syllabus for examination," the official said. More girls appeared for class 10 and 12 board exams from government schools than boys. "This may reflect gender bias while spending on education by parents. However, girls dominates in pass performance across government, aided and private schools," the official said. Over 65 lakh students failed class 10, 12 exams in 2023; higher failure rate in state boards: MoE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class X results on Monday. The overall <keyword id="20123359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pass-percentage" source="keywords">pass percentage</keyword> of 93.60 per cent was recorded. Passing percentage has increased by 0.48 per cent since last year. 25724 schools gave the CBSE class X examinations at 7603 centres. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.75 per cent whereas the lowest has been recorded at Guwahati which stood at 77.94 per cent. In the overall Delhi region, a 98.61 per cent pass percentage was recorded. 94.75 per cent of Girls passed the exam whereas 92.71 per cent of boys passed the exam with the Girls outshining boys by 2.04 per cent. Students who sat for the CBSE Class 10 board exams nationwide can view their mark sheets on the <keyword id="21637011" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CBSE-official-website" source="keywords">CBSE official website</keyword>, cbse.gov.in. The other official websites where CBSE 10th results can be checked are - cbseresults.nic.in, results.cbse.nic.in, cbse.nic.in, digilocker.gov.in, results.gov.in. The results can also be checked on mobile apps- Digilocker and UMANG. In regards to the Class 10 exams, CBSE stated that Science, Mathematics, and Social Science were chosen by 22,62,692 students each. These exams took place over three days at 7612 examination centres, utilising 94,279 rooms, with the assistance of 1,88,558 Assistant Superintendents. CBSE class X examinations were held from February 15 to March 13, 2024. Approximately 39 lakh students appeared for Class 10 and 12 examinations. Students must score a minimum of 33 per cent marks to pass the CBSE class 10 and 12 exams. Looking at the past year's trends, in 2023, the CBSE results were announced on May 12. While in the year 2022, it was declared on July 22. Earlier, CBSE declared Class XII. 87.98 per cent of students passed the board exams. Passing percentage increased by 0.65 per cent since last year. 18417 schools gave the CBSE class XII examinations at 7126 centres. This year the overall pass percentage is 87.98 a 0.65 percent increase since 2023. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.91 per cent. CBSE Class 10 board exam results declared

New Delhi, The Central Board of Secondary Education (<keyword id="6356155" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse" source="Orion">CBSE</keyword>) on Tuesday announced date sheet for class 10 and 12 board exams with the examination for both classes beginning from February 15. The class 10 exams will conclude on March 13 and the class 12 exams will end on April 2. "While preparing the date sheet, the board has kept in mind that there is sufficient gap between two subjects. Dates of competitive exams like JEE have been kept in mind while deciding schedule for class 12," Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said.

The board conducted the examination in a "record-breaking" number of days, Dev said. "For the first time, the exam was conducted in a record 12 working days. The evaluation of answer sheets was completed in the same number of working days," he added. The officer said 27,49,364 (27.49 lakh) candidates -- 14,39,243 (14.39 lakh) boys and 13,10,121 (13.10 lakh) girls -- appeared for the Class 10 exam. Of the total, 86.05 per cent boys and 93.40 per cent girls cleared the exam. For Class 12, the number of candidates was 24,52,830 (24.52 lakh) -- 13,41,356 (13.41 lakh) boys and 11,11,474 (11.11 lakh) girls, Dev said. The pass percentage was 77.78 for boys and 88.42 for girls.

In New Zealand, we have this national standards graph and she always sat under it," Jackie told Business Insider. The school has since expanded to new campuses in New Zealand and South Africa with a total global enrollment of just under 1,000 students.Since May 2021, the school has been managed by Education in Motion, a Singapore-based education company, although the Hardys are still involved as ambassadors."I remember getting up and telling the family, 'We're moving to Bali for the Green School,'" Jackie said. "And here we are."The <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.greenschool.org/bali/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/GSB_Enrolment___Admissions_Policy_2024-25.pdf">application process</a> varies depending on which grade potential students are enrolling in. Those applying for primary school need to submit school reports, teacher recommendations, and a video as part of their application. Her husband splits his time between New Zealand and Bali.She said the family's decision to school their children in Bali took a few years of planning."When you have three kids, it has to work for all of them," she said. "I wasn't worried about the two girls. I knew their personalities would suit the Green School, but I was worried about my son Kingston because he loves structure."<h2 id="8a2120c9-250e-42db-ad8c-10de8679a8e8">Project-based learning, smaller class sizes</h2>For Mila, school in Bali is a whole new game."In New Zealand, we had a lot of big classes. You don't really get to ask many questions; you just listen and then do your worksheet," Mila told BI. Since it was a 10-person classroom, I actually understood things," she said.The school's teaching model involves using practical examples, Mads Hedegaard, the director of admission, marketing, and communication, told BI."It can be a giant coconut slingshot to understand how to calculate trajectories, our seed-to-table cafe where the youngest students learn how to grow vegetables, and our middle schoolers learn entrepreneurship by running the cafe themselves," Hedegaard said. "Or it can be hands-on projects like building a yurt to learn math, physics, and practical arts at the same time."For instance, Mila recently completed a project in collaboration with a local women's shelter."I made my own artwork to raise awareness of domestic violence, sold it, and then made enough money to help them with appliances in the shelter," Mila said. After completing it, she had to give a presentation about her experience.<h2 id="32090d2b-4a98-4d9c-9be7-e8d7883a2c41">A different grading system</h2><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.greenschool.org/bali/student-wellbeing/">Classrooms at the Green School don't have walls</a>. A WASC representative told BI that the school has been accredited since the 2016-2017 school year."The GPA averages earned with our school can also be transformed into many other schooling systems globally," Hedegaard said, adding that Green School in Bali currently has 510 students enrolled across 39 nationalities.There are around 70 Indonesian students at Green School Bali, of which half are on full scholarships, he said.<h2 id="75db838a-f4ee-4282-8d40-f003ceaad58c">A pricey education</h2>But all of this comes at a hefty price tag: <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.greenschool.org/bali/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/02/GSB-ADMISSIONS-Tuition-Fees-Schedule-2023-24.pdf">Yearly tuition fees</a> start from 117.95 million Indonesian Rupiah, or $7,260, for pre-K students and can go up to 302,1 million Indonesian Rupiah, or $18,650, for Grade 11 and 12 high school students.While those prices might not shock Westerners used to paying for private schools in major, developed cities, they are considered high for the island of Bali.<div type="image" title="Students eating lunch at Green School Bali" height="2000" width="3000" msid="112151685" hostid="261" sizebytes="931196"></div>The average monthly net wage in Bali is about 3.04 million Indonesian rupiah, or $187.75, per the latest February 2019 data from data company <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.ceicdata.com/en/indonesia/monthly-average-wage-net-by-province">CEIC</a>.That said, tuition fees at Green School Bali are comparable to those of other international schools on the island. Yearly tuition fees for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ccsbali.com/admissions/fees">Canggu Community School</a> start at 105 million Indonesian Rupiah for preschool and go up to 245 million Indonesian Rupiah for year 12 and year 13 students."The fees are not high compared to other international schools," Hedegaard said, adding that many parents experience a decline in fees moving from other parts of the world.<h2 id="9a3ce2ab-a442-4f22-ba47-b20adaf65b3b">Adjusting to life in Bali</h2>Jackie said that although her daughters easily settled into life in Bali, her son needed a longer adjustment period."When we came here, my boy — up until the end — didn't want to leave New Zealand," she said, adding that the first six months after moving to Bali was a struggle."Every day, I'd ask him, 'How was school?' And he would say, 'I hate it, I hate that you brought me here,'" Jackie said. "But the thing is, so many families coming to Green School go through this. They'll have one child who hates it. And I'm always saying to them, give it time.""For some reason, one day, it was like a switch went off," she continued. "And he made great friends, and he didn't hate school."<h2 id="85d1882a-4988-4e6b-a9e4-0f407d0af40f">Less stress, more confidence</h2>For Mila, the educational environment at the Green School has helped her grow into a more confident person."I learned how to present myself and communicate my ideas with others, especially when speaking to adults or in front of a camera," Mila said.She doesn't feel the same kind of academic pressure that she did back in New Zealand."Tests are so much more daunting, and they don't have them here. It's mostly presentations and you learn after a few years how to be confident and not really stress over it," Mila said. "I just take a lot of different classes, and I get to try a lot of things."

Over 33 thousand students have scored marks above 95 per cent while 1.34 lakh students have scored above 90 per cent, the board said. For theory papers, 30 pc weightage has been given to first term marks, while 70 pc weightage has been given to second term marks. "For practical papers, equal weightage has been given to both terms, a board official said. CBSE class 12 results declared, passing rate above 92%

The <keyword id="6356155" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse" source="Orion">CBSE</keyword> on Friday declared the Class 12 results with 87.33 per cent of students clearing the exam, a dip of 5.38 per cent from last year. There will be no merit list to "avoid unhealthy competition", the board announced. The board has also decided to scrap awarding first, second and third divisions based on students' scores, officials said. "No merit list will be declared by the CBSE to avoid unhealthy competition among students. However, the board will issue merit certificates to 0.1 per cent of students who have scored the highest marks in the various subjects," a senior board official said. The pass percentage is higher than the 83.40 recorded in 2019 in the pre-Covid period, the official added. The pass percentage last year was 92.71. Girls continued to outshine boys, recording a six percentage point higher passing rate. Over 16.60 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 examination. The Trivandrum region recorded the highest pass percentage at 99.91 while the Prayagraj region reported the lowest at 78.05. Over 1.25 lakh students have been placed in the compartment category. Now, many of us — myself included — are even educators. My sister teaches drama in the US, and my mother retired from her position as a tenured university professor of journalism several years ago. I live in Singapore and lecture in the creative writing and publishing graduate program at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/graduate-school-singapore-american-international-student-rsis-ntu-2023-4">Nanyang Technological University</a>, but have also taught at the high school, undergraduate, and community college levels.In 2007, my now-ex-wife (a Singaporean citizen) and I decided to move to Singapore from the US. I got a full-time position at one of the country's highest-rated independent all-boys secondary schools. It was there that I was introduced to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/college-students-fight-hunger-games-style-for-top-banking-jobs-2024-4">Singapore's competitive and high-pressure education system</a>.I was surprised by how much extra work my students had to do on top of their regular coursework. They had to work on group presentations, research papers, and community projects on top of homework and hours of mandatory <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dont-join-extracurriculars-just-to-buff-up-college-application-2023-9">co-curricular activities</a> like Taekwondo, modern dance, or robotics club.I tried to be as compassionate as I could in the face of this workload, but I also had my own KPIs to meet, which were dictated by the school administration. I lasted four years before deciding to move on.It made me recall my education experience growing up in Oklahoma and North Carolina, which I largely look back on with fondness.For the most part, I enjoyed my classes, as well as my extra-curriculars, which in high school consisted of marching band, French club, and physics club. It's possible that, in the 30 years since <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/gifts/best-graduation-gift-ideas">graduating from high school</a>, my memories have become rose-colored, but I do remember feeling like I had a good balance between my school life and my personal life.<h2 id="4235e791-64d1-4259-b867-cd7714144bcc">I worry about the stress that gets put on my 14-year-old daughter</h2>My daughter is now in Secondary Three — the equivalent of ninth grade in the US — and it has been eye-opening following her through six years of primary school and two and a half years of secondary school. She gets good grades, but she is far more stressed out than I remember being at the same age.As part of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-create-healthy-boundaries-for-coparenting-after-divorce-2023-9">co-parenting arrangement</a> with my ex-wife, I have custody of our daughter on weekends, yet I can only remember a handful of those weekends over the past eight and a half years —including public and school holidays, during which she should be resting — when she wasn't overloaded with homework.From the time she arrives at my apartment on a Friday evening until I take her to her mother's place on Sunday night, her attention is primarily on the assignments she has to complete before Monday morning. <div type="image" title="Daughter and father wearing face masks" height="750" width="1000" msid="110191354" hostid="261" sizebytes="58436"></div>For example, when she was 11 and in Primary Six, Singapore was still under heavy COVID-19 restrictions, which was taxing enough for a young student. However, she also had to take the standardized Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), which would determine the secondary schools she'd be eligible for the following year.From where I sat, she spent the majority of that school year studying for that test, and felt intense pressure — along with the rest of her cohort — from the teachers to do well. This led to prolonged neurosis that year, and as a result, she lost over 10 pounds, when she was a slender kid to begin with.<h2 id="a802ad00-839b-4e57-bf8d-f44cacb0e1d8">A lot of the pressure is self-inflicted by students</h2>All of this has been compounded by my daughter's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/parent-ensures-success-children-set-up-for-college-2023-11">high academic standards</a> for herself, much of which has come from her school environment. When she doesn't have enough time in the day to be her best in each subject, she feels like she's letting her parents, teachers, and herself down, which leads to further anxiety.On a positive note, it does look like things are getting better. Over the past few years, Singapore's government has announced a shift in the focus of education away from purely academic grades and test results.In 2023, mid-year exams were no longer required, per <a target="_blank" href="https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/budget-debate-no-more-mid-year-exams-for-all-primary-and-secondary-school-students-from-next-year">The Straits Times</a>. In addition, many schools have now instituted subject-based banding, where students are placed in the appropriate subject difficulty based on their aptitudes. Parents also get regular newsletters from the Ministry of Education that show an increased understanding of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-9th-graders-wish-parents-knew-about-high-school-2023-9">difficulties that students face</a>. However, as with any type of government bureaucracy, things are still moving slowly.I am exceedingly proud of my daughter. She's intelligent and creative, but even more importantly, she is kind. She is a far better person than I was at her age.
