In particular, Walz and Vance traded barbs over Trump's actions in the lead-up to and during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot."Well, I've enjoyed tonight's debate, and there was a lot of commonality here," Walz said, before tearing into Vance's defense of Trump's actions.Walz added that he couldn't believe that Vance would offer a direct answer to whether or not Trump had really lost the 2020 election."This one is troubling to me," Walz said. "I say that because we need to tell the story. The fact is Donald Trump refused to acknowledge this."It also shouldn't go unnoticed that Vance and Walz tore into each other in deeply personal ways ahead of the debate. Vance accused Walz of abandoning his National Guard unit by retiring before his service members were deployed to Iraq. It remains to be seen how much ground Harris gained after facing off with Trump, but her national lead has risen slightly since her widely-agreed upon victory.Tuesday's debate comes at a critical time in the race. Election Day is in 34 days. Some states have already begun voting. Polling shows that Harris has built a narrow national lead since her decisive debate against Trump. But in the all-important swing states, the margin between the two remains extremely narrow.Both campaigns need to sway a small number of undecided voters in swing states and then motivate non-voters to the polls. Hence, the move to the middle to try and appeal to the broadest number of people — and hopefully undecideds.Trump and Harris are not expected to meet again on the debate stage. Harris has accepted a second debate, but Trump has thus far said it is too late for them to face off again. In their absence, the two major vice presidential hopefuls took up the unprecedented responsibility of delivering the closing arguments for their campaigns. It remains to be seen if it will move the needle at all.Then again, the 2024 race has ripped up the script at nearly every turn. And given that Tuesday marks the start of October, the month of historic campaign surprises, there may be more upheaval to come.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Friday during Jaishankar's three-day official visit to the Maldives. "Witnessed signing of MoU between (the) National Payments Corporation of India and (the) Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Maldives on (the) introduction of (a) digital payment system in the Maldives," he said in a post on X. Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (<keyword id="19998946" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI" source="keywords">NPCI</keyword>), Unified Payment Interface (UPI) is an instant real-time payment system to facilitate inter-bank transactions through mobile phones. Addressing a press conference with his Maldivian counterpart Moosa Zameer after their "productive discussions", Jaishankar said that India, through its UPI, has "revolutionised digital transactions". Stressing that it has taken financial inclusion in India to new levels, he said "Today 40 per cent of the world's real-time digital payments take place in our country." "We see this revolution, every day in our lives. I am pleased to note that with the signing of the MoU today, we have taken the first step towards bringing this digital innovation to Maldives," he said. "I wish the very best to stakeholders on both sides and hope that we will soon see the first UPI transaction here. I should mention that it will have a very positive impact on tourism," he added. Tourism is the main source of economic activity for the Maldives, contributing nearly 30 per cent of the GDP and generating more than 60 per cent of foreign exchange. It is a partnership that has enabled us to always swiftly and effectively respond to challenges, as witnessed in the past," Jaishankar said. "On regional and multilateral issues of importance, our countries have a common understanding and are united in our efforts to resolve them. We agreed to continue our cooperation on issues ranging from combating terrorism, violent extremism, drugs, human trafficking and to the promotion and protection of human rights," Zameer said. Currently, the breath analyser test percentage required is 10 per cent and that has been increased to 25 per cent. It will be applicable for air traffic controllers, ground staff, aircraft maintenance engineers, and ground handling services personnel right. According to the regulator, revisions have been made to the CAR on the procedure for breath analyser examination of the personnel engaged in safety-sensitive work such as aircraft maintenance, air traffic control services, aerodrome operations, and ground handling services for detecting the consumption of alcohol. DGCA said the revision in the CAR will further enhance the level of safety and is an effective step in view of the increase in air traffic and ground movements at airports. The amended norms will be effective after three months from the date of issue in order to provide adequate time to the industry to suitably enhance the existing infrastructure for breath analyser tests at various locations, it added.

Mike Gallagher, in a letter to Musk first obtained by the outlet, reiterated to the businessman that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/spacex-elon-musk">SpaceX</a> had a contractual commitment to give the US Defense Department the ability to use its satellite communications service.It is unclear if other members of Congress also signed on to the letter, which was dated February 24, Forbes reported. However, the outlet described a "group of US lawmakers" were involved in the calls for Musk to provide satellite access to US defense forces in Taiwan. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/tech/spacex-may-be-withholding-satellite-internet-in-taiwan-congressman-contends-8b58504c?mod=latest_headlines">The Wall Street Journal</a>, which later reported on the letter, only noted Gallagher's involvement in writing the correspondence.In the letter, Gallagher, the chair of the House select committee on the Chinese Communist Party, said the DoD is appropriating "tens of millions of dollars" for Starshield, which was designed for government use and utilizes satellites in low-Earth orbit to transmit imagery to military agencies.The Starshield satellites, designed specifically for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-spacex-starshield-starlink-satellite-internet-government-national-security-2022-12">national security</a> customers, provide essential internet access in remote locations or those impacted by natural disasters or war zones and have become crucial to Ukraine's battle against invading Russian forces."I understand that SpaceX is possibly withholding broadband internet services in and around Taiwan — possibly in breach of SpaceX's contractual obligations with the US government," Gallagher wrote in the letter, per Forbes."A robust communication network for US military personnel on and around Taiwan is paramount for safeguarding US interests in the Indo-Pacific region," the congressman continued.Gallagher, in the letter, then raised the specter of potential Chinese aggression toward Taiwan as he emphasized the significance of ensuring the safety of American personnel in the region."American service members in the Western Pacific would be put at severe risk," he wrote Musk in the letter, according to Forbes.The letter then called on Musk to brief the select panel regarding Starshield's capabilities in Taiwan by March 8, Forbes reported.Forbes reported that it's "unlikely" that Musk could be pushed to bring Starshield to Taiwan due to the prodding of Washington lawmakers, but pointed to the crucial nature of Space X's contracts with the military.Gallagher led a bipartisan delegation of five US lawmakers in a visit to Taiwan this week, which <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/21/world/asia/us-lawmakers-taiwan.html">The New York Times</a> reported aimed to reassure the island nation that the US would support its security interests in the face of increasing pressure and aggression by China."America stands with Taiwan, and you can draw upon a deep reservoir of friendship and support from the United States Congress," The Times reported Gallagher told Taiwan's president-elect, Lai Ching-te, who takes office in May.The request could present challenges for Musk, who has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-tesla-plans-new-megapack-factory-in-china-2023-4">considerable business ties</a> in China, where Tesla has a significant manufacturing presence.Musk hasn't been shy about discussing the tense relationship between <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-taiwan-and-china-special-administrative-zone-2022-10">Taiwan and China</a>.
