New Delhi, Aviation watchdog <keyword id="19899185" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dgca" source="keywords">DGCA</keyword> has deferred the implementation of the revised flight duty norms for pilots that were to be effective from June 1, according to two civil aviation ministry officials. One of the officials on Tuesday said the revised norms have been deferred for some time to have wider consultations. The new norms provide for more rest time for pilots and seek to alleviate pilot fatigue. The latest decision comes less than two weeks after the <keyword id="19926254" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="directorate-general-of-civil-aviation" source="keywords">Directorate General of Civil Aviation</keyword> (DGCA) told airlines that the deadline for implementing the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms will not be deferred. Another official said implementation of the revised FDTL norms has been deferred for some time to enable thorough consideration of all elements. The <keyword id="20738678" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="federation-of-indian-airlines" source="keywords">Federation of Indian Airlines</keyword> (FIA), comprising <keyword id="19896871" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="air-india" source="keywords">Air India</keyword>, <keyword id="19987725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="spicejet" source="keywords">SpiceJet</keyword> and <keyword id="19899182" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indigo" source="keywords">IndiGo</keyword>, had written at least twice to the regulator seeking more time for implementation of the revised FDTL norms that were issued on January 8. In a communication to the FIA earlier this month, the regulator said the airlines have to take all necessary steps to roll out the revised FDTL CAR (<keyword id="20777683" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="civil-aviation-requirements" source="keywords">Civil Aviation Requirements</keyword>) with effect from June 1, 2024. The revised norms provide for increased weekly rest time to 48 hours for pilots and limit the number of landings to two during night operations. Besides, the night hours for pilots will be extended to cover the period from midnight to 6 am whereas it was midnight to 5 am earlier. Also, all airlines have to compulsorily submit quarterly fatigue reports, which "should follow a non-punitive and confidentiality policy".

"Positive attitude, progressive policies, and deep trust among passengers are taking it to new heights with every flight, every day," the <keyword id="58151" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="civil-aviation-ministry" source="Orion">civil aviation ministry</keyword> said in a post on X on Friday. As per official data, the total number of domestic passengers was 4,63,417 and the number of flight movements stood at 5,998 on Thursday (November 23). In a post on X, civil aviation minister <keyword id="29632" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jyotiraditya-scindia" source="Orion">Jyotiraditya Scindia</keyword> on Friday said a new record has been set in Indian domestic aviation. Domestic air traffic had touched new peaks for three consecutive days -- November 18, 19 and 20.

The <keyword id="6354705" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="directorate-general-of-civil-aviation" source="Orion">Directorate General of Civil Aviation</keyword> (<keyword id="6354787" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dgca" source="Orion">DGCA</keyword>) has asked all aircraft operators to frame Standard Operating Procedures (<keyword id="50548" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SOP" source="Orion">SOP</keyword>) for commercial flight operations to ensure safe flight procedures with no alternative destination. The circular issued by DGCA on February 20 said that the operators shall establish aerodrome-wise standard operating procedures and provide guidance to flight operations personnel to ensure safe flight procedures with no destination alternate and have the same approved by DGCA. It further reads that in a rapidly changing global economy, the international air transport industry must continuously adapt to new trends and increasingly competitive market conditions. "While technological improvements in aviation continue to increase reliability and predictability, economic and environmental concerns will continue to compel operators to use fuel more efficiently. Consequently, all operators, including those leveraging existing technologies and those investing in new technologies to meet operational challenges, should be afforded the opportunity to receive a return on their investments," the circular from DGCA read. "This circular aims to provide extended guidance material necessary to support the implementation of policy to operate flights with no destination alternate in compliance with CAR Section 8 Series O Part II," it read further. DGCA has suggested certain guidelines to formulate SOP for flights with No Destination Alternate, it says that the operators shall establish a laid down procedure for each aerodrome as approved by DGCA in order to undertake flights with No Destination Alternate. DGCA in the circular also said that the procedure is only applicable to destinations with more than one independent runway. "At least one runway should be available with an instrument approach procedure. Change over time from the primary runway to the secondary runway should be specified by the airport operator. The operator should have signed MoU with each aerodrome where they intend to undertake a flight with No Destination Alternate. All the possible non-normal scenarios and contingency plans shall be discussed at the organizational level and shall be shared with the personals involved. All the personnel involved shall be trained prior to undertake flight operations with No Destination Alternate (NDA)," it read. "Operators involved in Ultra long-range (ULR) flight operations may look into No Destination Alternate in conjunction with re-clearance flight planning in order to undertake flight operations with NDA flight. Also, necessary approval shall be taken from the local regulator along with each aerodrome. The decision to commence or continue the flight with "No Destination Alternate" lies entirely with the Pilot In Command (PIC). If circumstances so dictate, the flight will be dispatched with a Destination Alternate," it read further. DGCA asks aircraft operators to frame SOP for commercial flights with 'no destination alternate'

The government has approved the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for <keyword id="94769" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="drones" source="Orion">drones</keyword> and drone components for implementation during the current year (2022-23) till 2024-25 with an outlay of Rs 120 crore. Based on the consultations/meetings with the stakeholders, including the industry representatives and the concerned departments, the operational guidelines of the PLI scheme for drones and drone components have been finalised. A statement from the <keyword id="149609" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ministry-of-civil-aviation" source="Orion">ministry of civil aviation</keyword> (MoCA) said that the objective behind this scheme is to incentivise the manufacturing of drones so as to make them self-sustaining and globally competitive. The statement said in order to make the country a global hub for the research and development, testing, manufacturing and operation of drones under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the liberalised <keyword id="2730972" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="drone-rules" source="Orion">Drone Rules</keyword>, 2021, was released to create a growth-oriented regulatory framework for drones. To facilitate further growth, the government said it approved the PLI scheme for drones and drone components in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>. Some of the operational guidelines which were notified for the stakeholders and the public were based on the definitions of the companies; eligibility; application and online portal; project management agency (PMA), empowered group of secretaries (EGoS) and the Competent Authority; approval under PLI and determination of baseline and calculation and disbursement of incentives. These applicants for the scheme are the companies registered in India that are manufacturing -- drones and drone components. The manufacturing can be carried out at one or more locations in India. According to the statement, the target segment covers drones and drone components. Drone components include airframe, propulsion systems (engine and electric), power systems, batteries and associated components, launch and recovery systems, communication systems, cameras, sensors, detect-and-avoid system, and software for drone and drone components, among others. In terms of applications, the statement said it should be with supporting documents and an application fee. Application acknowledgement date is the date on which it is acknowledged by the ministry after carrying out initial scrutiny. The application approval date is the date on which, based on an application, approval under the scheme is issued by the PMA. According to the guidelines, the scheme will be implemented through a nodal agency. Such nodal agency shall act as a PMA and will be responsible for providing secretarial, managerial and implementation support and carrying out responsibilities as assigned by the ministry from time to time. The PMA would be responsible for the appraisal of applications and verification of eligibility, examination of claims, a compilation of data, regarding the progress and performance of the scheme and to keep a check on any diversions arising out of any change in accounting policy or duplication of benefits on account of the same activity under different PLI schemes. The scheme shall have a provision for audit by an external auditor (chartered accountant or cost accountant). The EGoS will conduct periodic reviews of eligible companies with respect to their investments, employment generation, production and value addition under the scheme. It may revise incentivise rates, ceilings, and eligibility criteria as deemed appropriate during the scheme's tenure. The statement from the ministry said claim for disbursement of incentive shall be filed on an annual basis by the applicant within 12 months from the end of the financial year for the claims pertaining to FY22 (2021-22) and within six months from the end of the financial year to which the claim pertains for remaining tenure of the scheme. Applicants will be required to submit claims for disbursement of incentives to the PMA for claiming incentives under the scheme. Applicants must ensure that the claims are complete in all respects and accompanied by all the documents required as per the format prescribed. PMA will have to examine the disbursement claims as submitted by an applicant. The statement also said the PMA shall process claims for the disbursement of incentives and make appropriate recommendations to the Competent Authority. It also said the disbursement of incentives may be in the form of Direct Bank Transfer or through any other mechanism of adjustment in the name of the applicant only. In case of excess claims disbursed, the applicant shall reimburse MoCA for any incentive amount refundable along with interest calculated at three years. The PMA will submit budgetary requirements to MoCA as a consolidated amount on a quarterly basis. The statement also said that all approved applicants shall be required to furnish self-certified quarterly review reports within 30 days from the end of each quarter. The ministry also said these guidelines may be amended or modified at any time during the continuance of the scheme. Any dispute arising out of any conditions stipulated in the norms, selection of proposals and issues during the implementation under the scheme will be subject to courts/tribunals having jurisdiction under Delhi. Govt approves PLI scheme for making drones with outlay of Rs 120 cr, comes out with norms

There will be no cap on air ticket prices from August 31, and airlines will have flexibility in fixing the airfares. However, experts said that high competition among the airlines may lead to benefits for fliers and many airlines may offer discounts as per the demands. Aviation expert <keyword id="8783" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="harshvardhan" source="Orion">Harshvardhan</keyword> said: "The move will give flexibility to the airlines in deciding air fares and airlines can charge as per their policies. Airfare cap was more towards the higher side. New airline has come and there is competition in the sector. To attract travelers, some airlines are likely to come up with offers." An industry source said that airlines will have freedom to decide on air ticket prices, according to the prevailing market situations. They may raise prices during festive season as higher fares will add to the margins, he said. The ministry had imposed lower and upper limits on airfares after the resumption of services in May 2020 following the initial two-month nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19. Thereafter, the limits were relaxed in a phased manner according to the improvement in air traffic in the country. The lower caps were meant as a relief for airlines struggling after the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, the upper caps on airfares were fixed to ensure that passengers do not have to pay a hefty amount for air travel. Earlier, discussions on removing the fare bands for domestic airfares were held among the stakeholders including the government authorities and airlines. Carriers were of the view that removal of the pricing caps is required for the full-fledged recovery of domestic air traffic. Airfares may get costlier this festive season as there's no cap ticket prices from now

To ensure an adequate number of <keyword id="47674" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pilots" source="Orion">pilots</keyword> for its expanding fleet size, Tata Group-owned <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword> (AI) has decided to raise their retirement <keyword id="6378962" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="age" source="Orion">age</keyword> from 58 to 65. Considering future expansion plans for our fleet, it is imperative to meet our workforce requirement for pilots. DGCA ((Directorate General of <keyword id="6368649" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="civil-aviation" source="Orion">Civil Aviation</keyword>) allows pilots to fly till the age of 65 years, compared to Air India retirement age of 58 years. Allowing pilots to fly till the age of 65 is a practice followed by most airlines in the industry, said the airline's internal document issued on July 29. "To meet our requirement, it is proposed to retain our current trained pilots at Air India post-retirement on a contractual basis for 5 years extendable to 65 years," said S.D. Tripathi, AI's chief human resource officer (CHRO) in the document. According to AI's new policy, a panel comprising functional representatives of HR and operations &amp; flight safety will be constituted to examine the eligibility of pilots retiring in the next two years. The panel will be responsible for reviewing the past records of the pilots with respect to discipline, flight safety and vigilance. Post the review, the committee will recommend shortlisted names to the CHRO for issuing them post-retirement contract. As per the airline's policy, post-retirement contract will include a clause for annual review of the contract basis performance, conduct and flight safety record. On completion of five years of satisfactory service, a comprehensive examination of their performance will be considered for further extension till 65 years. This will be reviewed by the constituted committee, said the document. Air India to extend the flying age of its pilots to 65

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Regulators want to slash the number of short-haul flights to reduce aviation's carbon emissions.</li><li>But experts told BI recent regulations might only have a small impact on reducing emissions.</li><li>Shifting to greener fuels and enhancing green tech are essential for cleaner air travel.</li></ul>To reduce carbon emissions and boost sustainability in the aviation industry, some governments and air-travel regulators are looking to ban or severely limit the number of short-haul flights.Air travel is a dirty business: While the industry <a target="_blank" href="https://www.iea.org/energy-system/transport/aviation">produces about 2%</a> of global energy-related carbon emissions, a plane trip produces <a target="_blank" href="https://news.mongabay.com/2022/04/how-much-does-air-travel-warm-the-planet-new-study-gives-a-figure/">100 times more carbon dioxide per hour</a> than a train or bus ride. And short-haul flights, or <a target="_blank" href="https://www.eurocontrol.int/publication/eurocontrol-data-snapshot-co2-emissions-flight-distance">routes of 932 miles or less</a>, produce a disproportionate amount of carbon output. A report from the International Council on Clean Transportation, or ICCT, found that short-haul flights made up <a target="_blank" href="https://theicct.org/not-every-tonne-of-aviation-co2-is-created-equal/">a third of all global aviation emissions</a> in 2018.But experts say bans alone won't significantly impact carbon emissions. Instead, reducing the number of short-haul flights, experimenting with new technologies, and investing in environmentally friendly travel alternatives may go further in reducing the aerospace industry's carbon footprint.<h2>Regulations on short-haul flights aren't yet having the desired effect on emissions</h2>Denmark announced last year that by 2025, Danes will be able to fly domestically on a "completely green route," meaning that at least one domestic flight would be carbon-free and that all domestic flights would be fossil-fuel-free by 2030. The move makes Denmark one of the first countries to signal publicly for stronger aviation-sustainability policies.The Danish government also <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/climate-energy/denmark-proposes-14-green-passenger-tax-air-travel-2023-11-09/">announced a "green tax</a>" on passengers starting in 2025 to finance the country's green domestic route. The tax, converted from Danish krone, amounts to $9 for flights within Europe, $35 for medium-distance flights, and $56 for long-haul flights.Similarly, earlier this year, the French government enacted a law banning any flights within the country that a train ride of 2-and-½ hours or less could replace.The law initially seemed like a big win for climate activists, but the number of exceptions for international travel meant the law only impacted three routes between Paris-Orly Airport and the cities of Nantes, Bordeaux, and Lyon.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/summer-flight-cancellations-airlines-partner-with-buses-trains-2022-5">France's hyper-connected railway</a> allows passengers to move between cities without changing travel patterns. Since high-speed trains already connect the impacted flight routes, potentially limiting the law's effects, the country's aviation industry isn't likely to see any big changes to its carbon footprint."In terms of absolute emissions reduction, it's not going to do too much," Sola Zheng, a researcher on the ICCT aviation program team, told Business Insider. "But it's a very good precedent that governments are willing to pull these kinds of levers."<div type="image" title="Headshot of Sola Zheng, wearing a white blouse in front of greenery." height="1365" width="1365" msid="106002081" hostid="261" sizebytes="61600"></div>But banning short-haul flights doesn't solve the industry's carbon-footprint problem, Giulio Mattioli, a transportation researcher at the Technical University of Dortmund in Germany, said. He told BI that banning these routes would have minimal environmental effects unless regulations <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tech-innovation-not-only-solution-to-climate-crisis-2023-7">address the industry holistically.</a>"Maybe ban short-haul flights, but then don't expect that to solve the problem," he said. "We need to talk about the long-haul flights as well."<h2>Other strategies could curb the industry's emissions</h2>The solution to the industry's emissions problem, Mattioli said, can be divided into a three-part strategy: avoid, shift, and improve. Avoiding would mean curbing the amount of flying we already do, or at least maintaining the same level of travel without increasing it; shifting would mean moving toward methods of travel, such as trains or buses, that create less pollution; and improving would mean enhancing sustainable aviation technology.Mattioli told BI these strategies are all complementary, so the aviation industry must implement them simultaneously."It's only if we do those three things at the same time we have a chance of reducing emissions at the rate at which we should," Mattioli said.Zheng said one emerging aviation technology that could make a difference is alternative power sources, such as hydrogen or electricity. Shorter flights are great candidates to test these advancements since electric and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/aviation-industry-net-zero-by-2050-disagree-decarbonization-2023-12">hydrogen-powered planes</a> are often distance-constrained due to battery density and fueling needs. Because short-haul flights don't have to travel very far, the aviation industry won't have to change many flight patterns to test alternative power sources.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/aviation-sustainable-fuel-saf-production-challenge-decarbonization-zero-emissions-planes-2023-1">Sustainable aviation fuels</a> have also recently gained industry attention because they're largely made of waste materials or renewable biomass. While aircraft could theoretically use these materials for longer flights, supply problems make their use as primary fuel unrealistic for the near future."You want to develop these other solutions for the shorter ones, so you can decarbonize both at the same rate," Zheng said.<h2>Passengers can help reduce emissions, too</h2>Flying continues to be a priority for travelers. A report from the International Civil Aviation Organization found that demand for air travel is expected to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.icao.int/Meetings/FutureOfAviation/Pages/default.aspx#:~:text=The%20most%20recent%20estimates%20suggest,GDP%20to%20the%20world%20economy.">grow by about 4.3% a year over the next 20 years</a>.But Zheng said passengers are interested in making their <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/eco-friendly-travel-sustainability-expert-tips-2023-4">travel greener</a> and are willing to take steps to accomplish that goal. A Booking.com survey found that <a target="_blank" href="https://globalnews.booking.com/download/31767dc7-3d6a-4108-9900-ab5d11e0a808/booking.com-sustainable-travel-report2023.pdf">76% of surveyed passengers</a> want to make their travel more sustainable over the next year, and 43% of surveyed passengers are willing to pay more for it.Zheng recommended flying on newer aircraft or booking an economy seat. Flights that dedicate more seats to standard seating can fit more people, reducing each passenger's carbon footprint."We have to experiment," she said. "There's never going to be a silver bullet."

Addressing a webinar on "Connecting the Dots-Recovery of aviation, tourism and hospitality" on Friday, she underscored the need for the sector to be geared for any challenges and said that policy rejig will also help it in the long run, if it is hit by a similar crisis in the future. The webinar was organised by Women in Aviation International - India Chapter. Highlighting the success of Udan scheme, she further added: "Though the pandemic has adversely impacted the aviation and allied sectors, yet we have managed to take steps towards recovery. We are systematically opening the air space for operations and the air bubbles have helped aviation sector to get 60% capacity of domestic sector back." She added that great solutions are borne out of crisis while delving into the fact how the industry has fast adapted to technology and transformed digitally. "The crisis has led to digital transformation for the aviation sector. Now we have 100% web check-ins and various technology driven solutions have been adopted to offer touchless experience to passengers," she quipped. Pre-Covid forecasts indicated that in 2036 aviation industry will provide 98 million jobs and generate $5.7 trillion in GDP. Post Covid, the situation has reversed completely throwing the industry in a state of flux. All commercial activities are now dependent on the recovery of aviation, tourism and hospitality industry. New Delhi, As we gloat over reports how the US and European countries have started to tame the social media platforms in regard to anti-trust market practices, users privacy and the spread of fake news, <keyword id="1781932" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Big-Tech">Big Tech</keyword> firms had their own iota of controversies in India in 2020, generating enough political heat in the process. The biggest controversy came in August when the Wall Street Journal reported on the blatant biases of <keyword id="736869" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook-India">Facebook India</keyword>'s team, headed by their <keyword id="5729070" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-policy-chief">public policy chief</keyword> for the country, Ankhi Das. The report alleged that the top leadership at Facebook's India office refused to apply the company's own rules to politicians from the ruling party, despite clear violations of Facebook's policies against incitement to violence, hate speech and misinformation. Following the report, the Congress raised the issue of what it calls "unholy nexus" of the ruling BJP with Facebook and WhatsApp. Shashi Tharoor, the head of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology (IT), called on Facebook to respond to allegations of ignoring hate speech in favour of the ruling party. Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also wrote a hard-hitting letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, blaming the Facebook India management of alleged bias against people supporting the right-of-centre ideology. The minister said that as a <keyword id="10498524" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="transnational-digital-platform">transnational digital platform</keyword>, Facebook must not only be fair and neutral, but also "visibly seen to be so, to users of diverse beliefs and ideologies". Later, deposing before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on personal data protection Bill 2019, Das was asked how much funds are spent by the social media giant on data safety. The Facebook executives were also questioned on the quantum of its revenue as well as the profit they are making in India. A coalition of 41 civil rights groups also demanded that Facebook India should immediately place its public policy head Ankhi Das on a leave of absence pending a full audit of the company and an investigation into her statements as reported in The Wall Street Journal. The political heat resulted in Das quitting the company in October "to pursue her interest in public service". Another WSJ report this month alleged that Facebook discussed banning Bajrang Dal and termed it a dangerous organisation but did not act considering the safety of the employees. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and said: "Further confirmation that BJP-RSS control Facebook in India." However, no stern action was taken on Facebook. Micro-blogging platform Twitter stirred a major controversy in the second half of the year when it showed Ladakh as part of China. Twitter had to apologise to a parliamentary panel in a letter, stating that it will fix the issue of geo-tagging Ladakh as part of China and Ladakh will be added as a region administered by India as a union territory. The micro-blogging platform sent the letter to the panel's chairperson Meenakshi Lekhi and apologised for the geo-tag error. A joint committee of Parliament led by BJP MP Lekhi which has 20 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha, had issued summons to Twitter, seeking an explanation in form of an affidavit. Taking strong exception to the "misrepresentation" of India's map, the government also wrote a letter to the Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, saying that any attempt by the platform to disrespect the sovereignty and integrity of India, which is also reflected by the maps, was totally unacceptable. In a separate incident, after courting controversy for wrongly showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of China, Twitter said it resolved this particular geo-tag issue. Facebook and Twitter stir up hornet's nest in India in 2020

But, the seats will be assigned as per the availability. </li><li>The revised policy has been effective since 14 November and the seats will be charged according to flyer preferences, starting from ₹100 to ₹800. </li><li><keyword id="149609" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Civil-Aviation">Ministry of Civil Aviation</keyword> (MoCA) said that the charges will be reviewed under the pricing framework.</li></ul>The Indian government has said it will review the new charges for online check-ins announced by the country’s budget airlines IndiGo and Spicejet following social media complaints by several flyers.  Earlier, in case of web check -ins, the airlines charged extra only for certain seats such as the ones along the aisle, window-facing or the seats with additional legroom. The charges for lowest seats in IndiGo and Spicejet are ₹100 and ₹99, respectively. IndiGo <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/business/indigo-to-charge-for-web-check-in-of-all-seats#gs.npT1Cys">reportedly</a> said that the revised policy has been effective since 14 November and the seats will be charged according to the flyer preferences, starting from ₹100 to ₹800. According to the revised policy, a first row seat will be charged ₹800 extra, while a non-reclining seat next to the emergency exit will cost ₹600 more and a middle seat in the last row will cost an additional ₹100 if booked online. IndiGo said that the changes have been inline with the consumer preferences, for the advanced selection of seats. Indian government to review IndiGo, Spicejet policies to charge for web check-in after flyers protest

The Union Cabinet has cleared a new <keyword id="866244" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="civil-aviation-policy">civil aviation policy</keyword>, and the changes introduced would allow carriers to fly abroad, promote regional connectivity and boost cargo operations, while removing the proposal that sought a payment of Rs 8,000 per flight from airlines so that the regional connectivity scheme could be funded. The cabinet has said that this rate will keep on changing from time to time. 
 
As of now, the details of these changes are awaited but as per sources, the 5/20 rule, which allows an to fly internationally only when it has served in India for 5 years and has 20 aircrafts in its fleet, has been done away with. Not only this, the new policy would also provide subsidize fares for regional routes. 
 ET sources said that the <keyword id="58151" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="civil-aviation-ministry">Civil Aviation Ministry</keyword> had sent the proposed policy to Cabinet for approval on June 3. "Airfares for regional routes to be capped at Rs 2,500/hour. Government to subsidise fares beyond Rs 2500/hr on regional routes," they claimed. 
 
The new policy aims to support the domestic aviation sector and tap its high growth potential by providing encouraging options like capping airfares at Rs 2,500 for a one-hour flight, auctioning of unilateral traffic rights, tax incentives for airlines, maintenance and repair works of aircraft besides mooting 2% levy on all air tickets so that regional connectivity scheme can be funded.
