"We have inquired with the US Department of Justice and have not been subpoenaed. Nonetheless, we are happy to answer any questions regulators may have about our business."In a new <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-09-04/nvidia-says-it-has-not-been-subpoenaed-by-justice-department">report</a> on Wednesday, Bloomberg, citing one person with direct knowledge of the matter, said that the DOJ sent Nvidia what's known as a civil investigative demand seeking information about the company's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-mergers-and-acquisition-startup-buying-spree-ftc-investigation-2024-8">$700 million acquisition of Israeli AI startup Run:ai</a> and other elements of its business. The DOJ did not immediately respond to a request for comment by BI.<h2 id="0c0d06cf-d950-4b16-b187-7f2ab6a567e6">Nvidia leadership should prepare for a possible antitrust lawsuit</h2>In any case, Nvidia brass should most definitely be preparing for a potential DOJ antitrust lawsuit and doing whatever it can to cooperate with the federal agency's investigation, legal experts said.Chung, a tech law expert, told BI that getting a civil investigative demand "signals that the investigation is in a fact-finding stage."A civil investigative demand is a tool reserved for certain agencies, like the DOJ and the Federal Trade Commission, to gather information early in civil investigations, he said."Nvidia should ensure clear, transparent communication and trust its legal team to guide interactions. Cooperating shows good faith and may help mitigate potential concerns," Chung said. "At the same time, it's essential for the legal team to thoroughly review all documents and communications to prepare for any possible outcomes."Additionally, said Chung, the AI chip maker should avoid any actions that could be perceived as "obstructive.""This means responding to the CID promptly and accurately while refraining from any conduct that could be seen as influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence," Chung said. "Internally, it's important to continue business as usual while maintaining compliance with legal guidelines."George Hay, a professor at Cornell Law School and former chief economist for the Justice Department's antitrust division, explained that a civil investigative demand is a request for documents or other information, while a subpoena typically means a request to appear for a deposition."It's probably too soon in the investigation for that so a CID is more plausible," the antitrust law expert told BI.Still, Hay said, at this point, Nvidia should be "worried" about the DOJ's probe, but it doesn't mean an antitrust lawsuit is inevitable.Just because there's an investigation does not mean that the company has done something illegal, Hay pointed out."What happens after that depends entirely on the results of the investigation," Hay said.Chung added that the reported issuing of a civil investigative demand "shows the DOJ is seriously gathering information.""It's smart for any legal team to think ahead and be ready for whatever might come, whether that's a lawsuit or something else," he said.Nvidia, Chung said, "should definitely be prepared for the possibility of an antitrust lawsuit, especially considering how the DOJ has gone after other big tech companies like <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/leaked-deck-doubleclick-acquisition-pitch-google-adtech-antitrust-trial-2024-9">Google</a> and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/emails-apple-executives-cited-doj-antitrust-lawsuit-2024-3">Apple</a>.""Preparation for any potential escalation should still focus on gathering strong internal documentation, reviewing market practices, and ensuring compliance with antitrust regulations," said Chung."Involving external legal experts and advisors to assess market strategies remains a prudent step," he said.

What Nvidia leadership should be doing to prepare for a possible DOJ case

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Prime is a crucial way Amazon encourages consumers to keep spending money on its platform. </li><li>Prime growth has for years spurred investors to pile into Amazon stock. </li></ul>In 2018, Amazon founder <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-ceo-jeff-bezos-richest-man-world-career-life-story-2017-7">Jeff Bezos</a> said he expected his company to be scrutinized by regulators because big tech had become so large. On Wednesday, he was proved right. The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/federal-trade-commission-act">Federal Trade Commission</a> sued Amazon, accusing the e-commerce behemoth of luring unwitting customers into <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-is-investigating-prime-team-gender-bias-allegations-2021-6">Prime</a> subscriptions, and creating a "labyrinthine" process to cancel it. The company "knowingly duped millions of consumers," the FTC said <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.wawd.323520/gov.uscourts.wawd.323520.1.0_1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">in its complaint</a> filed in federal court in Washington state.The suit was the result of an <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-prime-ftc-probe-customer-complaints-sign-ups-internal-documents-2022-3">Insider investigation</a> in early 2022. Citing internal Amazon documents, reporter <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/author/eugene-kim">Eugene Kim</a> and then-editor Graham Starr revealed that the company had been concerned since at least 2017 that user interface designs on Amazon.com led customers to feel manipulated into signing up for Prime. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-ceo-andy-jassy-day-2-culture-first-year-ceo-2022-8">Amazon</a> was aware of these complaints for years but did not take serious action, according to the previously unreported internal documents and six current and former employees who spoke to Insider.Even worse: In several cases, fixes for these issues were proposed and considered, but resulted in lower subscription growth when tested, and were shelved by executives, the documents showed. Amazon withheld the information."In an email to Insider on Wednesday, Amazon's spokesperson said the FTC's claims are "false.""The truth is that customers love Prime, and by design we make it clear and simple for customers to both sign up for or cancel their Prime membership," the statement said. "We also find it concerning that the FTC announced this lawsuit without notice to us, in the midst of our discussions with FTC staff members to ensure they understand the facts, context, and legal issues, and before we were able to have a dialog with the Commissioners themselves before they filed a lawsuit."<h2>Civil Investigative Demand</h2>Around the spring of 2022, the regulator reached out to current and former Amazon employees and sent out subpoena letters in some cases. One of those letters, reviewed by Insider, said the FTC made a Civil Investigative Demand to Amazon in March 2021. A CID is a legal document enforceable in court that seeks documents or other information related to an FTC investigation. The agency sends CIDs to get information from companies it thinks may have violated the law, according to the FTC website.In April 2022, the FTC sent more correspondence about the issue to Amazon lawyers, according to the letter, which cited Insider's original story from March 2022.At that time, an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement that "we continually listen to customer feedback and look for ways to improve the customer experience.""Customers love Prime and by design we make it clear and simple for customers to both sign up for or cancel their Prime membership," the Amazon representative added.<h2>Harassment accusation</h2>Later in 2022, the FTC ramped up its probe. The regulator asked Amazon to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ftc-requests-jeff-bezos-amazon-executives-disappearing-messages-prime-investigation-2022-8">dig up any relevant disappearing messages</a> sent by the company's executives, including Bezos and CEO Andy Jassy. The end of many of those programs that year has led to a big uptick in poverty in 2022, a new <a href="https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2023/demo/p60-280.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Census Bureau report</a> shows.The <a href="https://www.census.gov/library/visualizations/2021/demo/poverty_measure-how.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Supplemental Poverty Measure rate</a> or the SPM rate, which "includes both cash and noncash benefits and subtracts necessary expenses (such as taxes and medical expenses)" as stated in a <a href="https://www.census.gov/newsroom/blogs/random-samplings/2023/09/difference-supplemental-and-official-poverty-measures.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Census Bureau blog post</a>, climbed from 7.8% in 2021 to 12.4% in 2022. The SPM child poverty rate of those under 18 soared from the record low, starting with data from 2009, of 5.2% in 2021 to 12.4% in 2022.That's all while the unemployment rate remained low in 2022, ranging between 3.5% and 4.0% over the course of the year.A <a href="https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2023/income-poverty-health-insurance-coverage.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a> from the Census Bureau noted that the increase in the overall SPM rate "can be attributed to key changes in federal tax policy, including the expiration of temporary expansions to the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) as well as the end of pandemic-era stimulus payments."The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/child-tax-credit-stimulus-bill-2021-3">expanded CTC</a> meant up to $3,600 per child for those under 6 and $3,000 for older children, for qualified families. People could get half of this as six monthly payments in 2021, and the rest when they filed their 2021 taxes. The advanced <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/families-affected-child-tax-credit-payments-stopped-2022-3">payments helped families</a> pay their bills, as Insider has reported."Congress must act to reinstate the improvements to the child tax credit, invest in child care, and take other steps to ensure that women — and the families who rely on us — have the supports we need to thrive," Melissa Boteach, vice president of income security at the National Women's Law Center, said in a statement."The sharp reductions in child poverty in 2020 and 2021 that were engineered even in the face of a pandemic-damaged economy show the importance of policy decisions," a statement from Economic Policy Institute's Elise Gould and Ismael Cid-Martinez said. "If policymakers were willing to maintain the pandemic-era CTC expansions, a much smaller share of children would be living in poverty."To be sure, the SPM is not the official measure poverty, which the <a href="https://www.census.gov/newsroom/blogs/random-samplings/2023/09/difference-supplemental-and-official-poverty-measures.html">Census Bureau also reports</a>. The official measure includes things like unemployment, Social Security, and wages but doesn't include tax credits, taxes paid, stimulus payments, or SNAP and similar noncash assistance programs, according to <a href="https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/newsroom/press-kits/2023/iphi/20230912-iphi-slides-iphi-with-plotpoints.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">this year's press kit</a>. The SPM is measured by taking into account multiple things that aren't in the official measure, including tax credits, and subtracting things like work and childcare expenses.The Council of Economic Advisers, or CEA, noted in a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/cea/written-materials/2023/09/08/what-to-expect-the-2022-census-poverty-income-and-health-insurance-reports/#_ftn1">post</a> prior to the new data was out about what it expected for the latest measure that they focused on the SPM rather than the official rate because it is a more accurate representation of the reality of poverty in the US. That's because of the extra sources of income and expenses used for SPM, the CEA noted, as well as because it "has updated thresholds that better reflect today's consumption patterns."The official poverty rate was pretty similar to what it was in 2021: it decreased slightly, from 11.6% in 2021 to 11.5% in 2022.<h2>2.4 million Americans avoided poverty in 2022 because of the refundable portion of the child tax credit</h2>The expiration of the <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/child-tax-credit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expanded child tax credit</a> is one reason the CEA and some economists noted they <a href="https://www.cbpp.org/research/poverty-and-inequality/what-to-watch-for-in-next-weeks-census-data-on-poverty-income-and" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expected</a> the SPM rate to rise in <a href="https://www.epi.org/blog/2022-census-data-preview-poverty-rates-expected-to-increase-as-high-inflation-and-the-loss-of-safety-net-programs-overshadow-labor-market-improvements/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commentary</a> ahead of the release."Two ARP policies in particular substantially reduced poverty in 2021: the significant increase in the CTC, which included making the full credit available to the lowest-income children for the first time, and the Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) sent out in March 2021," stated a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/cea/written-materials/2023/09/08/what-to-expect-the-2022-census-poverty-income-and-health-insurance-reports/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CEA blog post</a>."Taken together, the CEA finds that the EIPs and the CTC shaved almost 10 points off of the child poverty rate in 2021, reducing it by two-thirds," the CEA said a few days before the new data was out."Renewing the expansion — which President Biden and many in Congress supported — would have kept about 3 million children above the poverty line in 2022, avoiding more than half of the actual rise in child poverty, we calculate using Census data released today," a post from the <a href="https://www.cbpp.org/blog/analyzing-the-census-bureaus-2022-poverty-income-and-health-insurance-data#Sharon-1130" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center on Budget and Policy Priorities</a> said. Granted, this is going to be the hundredth article you’ll come across pointing out the weaknesses of the show, but before you decide to close the link accompanied by that feeling of déjà vu, hear us out. 
 This article is going to be a critique of the reasons behind <keyword id="253731" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Quantico">Quantico</keyword> being the easy target of mass disapproval; however what this article is not going to be is a display of demeaning the potential of <keyword id="1655" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Priyanka-Chopra">Priyanka Chopra</keyword>, who plays the lead. 
 
Priyanka Chopra isn’t what’s wrong with Quantico. (Well, not entirely). Where the show falls flat is in its execution of its far-fetched ideas. Agreed, Priyanka Chopra as <keyword id="2845440" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Alex-Parrish">Alex Parrish</keyword> is not at her best- at times even reprising the role of a borderline annoying lead that you really cannot really root for. Her scenes with Ryan Booth (her romantic interest in the show) where she tries her best to be seductive yet playful is testimony to the fact. Her terrible hairstyle doesn’t help either. 
 
But, in our haste to critically point how bad Priyanka Chopra is as Alex Parrish, we completely forget to address how bad Quantico is at being a FBI thriller/drama show. 
 
The storyline is your typical run-of-the-mill noble FBI agent being framed as a terrorist and her trying to escape arrest while trying to find out who framed her. The characters are nothing remarkable either, barring a few (Chopra’s character being the biggest disappointment). Though the plot has been successful in beating around the bush till now, it has been unsuccessfully repeating same old sub-plots that really don’t need reminding at the same time (Case in point- Priyanka’s father situation). 
 
And, add to that, the fact that every FBI training exercise in the show is so ridiculous that it continues making CID look better and better. (If that’s not a problem, what is?) 
 
I’ve been unimpressed by Quantico since it’s trailer and yet I’ve faithfully consumed all of its offerings. Right from the first eight minutes of the first episode until the fourth (titled ‘Kill’), I’ve followed every episode with utmost glee. This is the only area where Quantico wins. Despite being a pretty average show, it is able to maintain a steady viewership solely because of those five minutes of absolutely gripping storyline out of the 40 minute runtime that has us hooked. 
 
The problem is thus, Quantico is a show that has all the pieces of the puzzle, but has unfortunately not managed to solve the puzzle as of yet. 
 
That is the tragedy. That is why Quantico is above average and not the show that we expected in our heads.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Seattle restaurant Jade Garden has been vandalized twice since March, and the owner believes that both incidents were racially motivated.</li><li>Jade Garden was one of 21 Chinatown restaurants damaged during recent <keyword id="6354896" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="protests">protests</keyword> over the death of George Floyd, and owner Eric Chan believes his restaurant was targeted because of online rumors that he sent a racist message on Instagram.</li><li>Chan says that the image of the racist message circulating on social media is fake, and that he's been the target of a racist troll bent on destroying his reputation and his business.</li><li>Chan's story highlight the complicated relationship between many Black and Asian Americans. "Asian Americans are in this strange social position," said Ellen Wu, the director of the Asian Studies program at Indiana University. "We're not white. We're also very clearly not black, and we benefit from being not Black."</li></ul>Eric Chan keeps having to clean up broken glass. Chan is the owner of Jade Garden, a Seattle dim sum restaurant that Business Insider first <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jade-garden-independent-restaurants-struggle-to-survive-pandemic-2020-4">profiled</a> in early April. When we first spoke to Chan, the restaurant had just been vandalized in what Chan believes to be a racially motivated crime. At the time, President Donald Trump had <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-doubles-down-on-calling-coronavirus-chinese-virus-2020-3">dubbed</a> the coronavirus "the Chinese virus," and anti-Asian hate crimes had been <a href="https://www.adl.org/blog/reports-of-anti-asian-assaults-harassment-and-hate-crimes-rise-as-coronavirus-spreads">on the rise</a>. Sales in Seattle's Chinatown or International District, where Jade Garden is located, plunged as early as February.When we reached back out in June, Chan told us that Jade Garden had been broken into again on May 30, during protests over the death of George Floyd. This time, Chan suspects that those responsible targeted him not because he is Asian, but because they thought he was anti-Black.It's not exactly clear where many Asian Americans fit into this moment of sweeping social change and anti-racist protests. For those who live or work in Chinatown neighborhoods, the property damage associated with the current protests is reminiscent of past wounds. In 1992 Los Angeles, riots over the acquittal of four police officers beating Rodney King resulted in the destruction of Koreatown, just a year after a Korean store owner shot and killed Latasha Harlins, a 15-year-old Black girl."Asian Americans are in this strange social position," said Ellen Wu, an associate professor of history and the director of the Asian Studies program at Indiana University. "We're not white. We're also very clearly not Black, and we benefit from being not Black. We don't have to live in the kind of perpetual fear of violence that Black people do."The reason Jade Garden was looted again, Chan believes, has something to do with those wounds. He opened it to see an Instagram comment posted by an account he didn't recognize and had never interacted with commenting on an old picture of Chan holding his dog. The comment reads, "Bruh gonna make Chow Dog Mein." Chan was shocked to see the comment appear on his personal Instagram. Business Insider reviewed evidence of the exchange in a 28-page protection order that Chan filed with the King County District Court. Chan tried to defuse the problem with the Instagram commenter online, but he says things only got worse. Soon after Chan reached out to his tormentor, the account started spreading a screenshot of a racist message that appears to be from Chan. The end of the message reads, "Fuck your <keyword id="2771111" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="black-lives-matter">Black lives Matter</keyword>!"The image caused immediate outrage on Facebook and Instagram. Social media users who identified as Black or allies condemned Chan and called for a boycott of his restaurant. Chan says he started receiving a barrage of abusive phone calls and texts, often from blocked numbers. But he says that the image was doctored, that someone photoshopped his picture and name onto a message he never sent.<div type="image" title="JG Eric Chan racist comment" height="1799" width="2399" msid="76450603" hostid="261"></div>Chan eventually found the identity of the Instagram user and filed a protection order against him. He asked Business Insider not to reveal the individual's name due to ongoing legal proceedings. Chan's protection order contains pages of taunting messages from the account that eventually devolve into pictures: a conspiracy theory meme, a picture of an Asian man crying, and a pornographic image of a woman in a sex act.Even though the point of his harassment campaign is to make Chan seem anti-Black, pictures of the Instagram commenter on social media appear to show a young, light-skinned male. The commenter did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment via email.When Chan spoke out about his story on <a href="https://www.king5.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/seattle-man-says-online-troll-is-hurting-him-and-his-familys-business/281-23cd615b-d57d-464d-8a5f-661c78e9844a">local news</a> and Facebook groups, he received messages from three different women who had been previously harassed by the same Instagram user. One offered to add her own testimony to his police report.Still, the threatening calls and messages only kept coming. Police told him to deactivate his social media accounts, and he did. Then, George Floyd was murdered."It's being broken into right now. During the protests, there were reports of Seattle police pepper-spraying a young girl, covering up their badge numbers, punching people on the ground, and <a href="https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/seattle/seattle-police-george-floyd-protests-complaints/281-61729aa7-59bc-47b7-aba9-7e9028b2daac">breaking windows of a Target store</a>. The Seattle Police Department would not comment on the allegations but referred Business Insider to the <a href="http://www.seattle.gov/opa/complaints/demonstration-complaint-dashboard">demonstration complaint dashboard</a> on the Office of Police Accountability website. Some protesters threw rocks and bottles. By the evening of Saturday, May 30, several police cars had been set on fire and many stores had been broken into and looted. It is unclear if looters were associated with the protests.Around 11:30 pm on Saturday, two individuals broke into Jade Garden and made off with the cash register. "My buddy who lives across the street from me called me at 11:30 and was yelling, "it's being broken into right now. Hurry, hurry, hurry!" I open up my phone and lo and behold, I see three people break into my restaurant. They smashed the front door and rummaged through everything." Chan said. Chan monitors his restaurant with a series of surveillance cameras connected to his phone.He and his family grabbed their guns, piled into their car, and drove over, but the looters were long gone with the cash register by the time they arrived. Chan is convinced that his restaurant was targeted as a result of the racist image circulating on social media."They specifically drove up to my restaurant. And they used the excuse of the protest because that night there were literally zero police officers on call," Chan said. "Every police officer was in Seattle downtown."But it's also possible that Jade Garden was randomly attacked. Out of the 50 businesses in Seattle that were affected by the destruction on Saturday, 21 were in the International District, according to <a href="https://twitter.com/hanamkim/status/1267234649039765505">a local TV reporter</a>. Chan says that soon after looting began, the police started pushing the crowd from downtown Seattle into the International District. "People kept on destroying shit. Then the police officers trying to control the crowd pushed them all the way back to Chinatown and Chinatown got destroyed."Dev Kabanela, a lifelong International District resident, told Business Insider he felt the city abandoned the neighborhood by failing to protect it after pushing protests in its direction. "We have been ignored by our city in local protection alongside legitimate Black Lives Matter protesters," Kabanela said. The SPD will facilitate these demonstrations and protests by communicating openly with the event organizers and creating a plan for safe crowd management operations."Not white, not black<div type="image" title="Tou Thao, Hmong American police officer involved in George Floyd killing" height="1669" width="2500" msid="76450612" hostid="261"></div>The relationship between Black and Asian American communities have often been marked by tension, and that tension sometimes plays out in news and popular culture.At the end of Spike Lee's 1989 film "Do The Right Thing," residents of a majority-Black neighborhood riot and set upon a Korean-owned grocery store after the police choke a Black man to death.The shopkeeper waves them away with a broom, screaming, "I not white! I not white! I'm black!" When a Black character looks at him incredulously, saying, "Why're you black? Me black! Me black!" The store owner shouts back: "You, me, same!" While Asian and Black Americans are often lumped together into broad categories like "minorities" or BIPOC, solidarity between the two demographics is far from a given. Asian Americans have long benefited from structures of white supremacy in the United States predicated upon anti-blackness, according to Wu, the Asian Studies professor. Often, Asian Americans are complicit in upholding those very structures. Tou Thao, one of the officers charged in aiding and abetting the murder of George Floyd, is <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/officer-who-stood-george-floyd-died-asian-american-we-need-n1221311">Hmong American</a>. And in the 2015 NYPD shooting of Caribbean American Akai Gurley, some Chinese Americans rallied in support of Peter Liang, the police officer responsible for Gurley's death, <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2015/05/14/406444625/n-y-police-shooting-case-divides-citys-asian-americans">eliciting backlash</a> from other Chinese and Asian Americans who felt Liang should be held accountable. Finally, as anti-Asian sentiment spread with the pandemic, many Black Americans felt it <a href="https://www.blackenterprise.com/in-the-discussion-of-asian-american-discrimination-amid-covid-19-the-black-community-remains-divided/">wasn't their responsibility</a> to support a group of people that had discriminated against them.Since the 1960s, the model minority myth has allowed Asians to enjoy a higher, albeit second-class status in white society while reinforcing negative stereotypes about Black Americans. As a result, tensions have often flared up between Asian and Black communities. Understanding their shared history is key to advancing Black-Asian solidarity, Wu said."The idea of Asian American studies comes out of the Black Power movement and the antiwar movement in the sixties," Wu said. And now, Wu said, she's seeing an unprecedented willingness from Asian communities to examine their place in American society."This would be a good moment to ask, what does assimilation mean? What are we trying to assimilate into? He says if things go on like this, his family is thinking about leaving behind the restaurant his parents built and moving somewhere far away from Seattle, maybe China. He wonders if his Instagram tormentor understands the effects his actions have had on Chan's family, saying, "I don't think he himself can stop what is happening to me." On the Sunday after Jade Garden and at least 20 other Chinatown businesses were looted or vandalized, a group of volunteers assembled to clean up the aftermath.Volunteers helped to board up stores and restaurants. Artists painted murals on those boards. Some murals celebrated the <keyword id="6181" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Food">food</keyword> or products inside, while others expressed solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, reading "Asians for Black Lives." Other residents and volunteers formed a <a href="https://www.kuow.org/stories/volunteers-keep-watch-on-international-district-in-seattle">block watch group</a> to protect businesses from further damage. "The community came together and helped me clean up the glass shards," Chan said. But he's facing at least $2,000 in damages from the break-in and he's still operating with a plywood door. "I agree with what the movement is about, just not the violence and the looting," Chan says, but he remains conflicted. "Business owners that come out and complain and say their s--- was destroyed are being labeled as racist because they're saying you care about your property more than the movement. That's not fair. I'm just trying to protect my business."
