Helicopter transport firm BLADE on Friday announced the launch of its <keyword id="484163" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chopper-services" source="Orion">chopper services</keyword> in <keyword id="826" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="goa" source="Orion">Goa</keyword>, offering rides for local travellers as well as tourists. According to the company, the helicopter services is meant for inbound travel and it will connect Goa Airport to North Goa, South Goa and Old Goa -- a village having cluster of heritage monuments. State chief minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the service at Aguada helipad in North Goa. With this launch, the company aims to make Goa more accessible and navigable for travellers, it added. BLADE has three landing points - North Goa (in Surla), South Goa and Old airport -- available to it for operating its services in the state, as per the company. The aim of heli-tourism services is to make places more accessible through short-haul air mobility, said Amit Dutta, managing director at BLADE India. "The Goa airport and North-South Goa have always been disconnected due to the road travel time involved and have been a pain point for travellers in Goa and locals alike. The goal is to bridge the gap between the two locations and help local communities and businesses thrive by being connected," he stated. BLADE said it will provide fly-by-the-seat helicopter services from Goa airport to North and South Goa wherein a customer can book a seat in a helicopter through the company's official website or app. Besides, a customer can also charter the entire <keyword id="41900" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chopper" source="Orion">chopper</keyword> for travel within the state as well as inter-state (Maharashtra), it stated. Also, travellers can opt for short experiential helicopter flights of 10-15 minutes to enjoy an aerial view of Goa, BLADE said in the release. "Heli tourism will let us explore the hinterlands of Goa like never before. The government will provide any kind of support for such initiatives to promote tourism in the state," chief minister Sawant said. Goa is the third state for BLADE India, a joint venture between New York-based BLADE Urban Air Mobility Inc and Delhi-based venture capital firm Hunch Ventures. It forayed into the Indian market with the launch of its services in Maharashtra in March 2019. In December 2020, the company expanded its operations to Karnataka. After an overwhelming response in Maharashtra and Karnataka, BLADE India is rapidly expanding its footprint in the country and geared up to enter India's most preferred leisure holiday destination Goa, the company said. Chopper services launched in Goa for tourists, locals

He was treated in different hospitals in Mumbai, Goa, Delhi and even in the US. He returned to work briefly in December last year and even presented Goa's state budget on January 30.

 He has been the chief minister of Goa for three terms- from 2000 to 2005, from 2012 to 2014, and most recently, since March 2017. Parrikar served as the defence minister of India between 2014 and 2017 during which he opened investigations into alleged corruption in past defence deals including the United Progressive Alliance's (UPA) decision to buy AgustaWestland choppers. He was also at the centre of a controversy over the current government's decision to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets from French company Dassault. However, the federal auditor, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, gave a clean chit to the deal in February 2019. Born in Mapusa, Goa, Parrikar went on to graduate in metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) in 1978. He was the first IIT alumnus to serve as a member of legislative assembly. Parrikar cut his teeth at the Hindu right-wing organisation, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, early in his life and was one of the key organisers of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement in the early 1990s. The RSS is the ideological parent of the <keyword id="58687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> (BJP) that has been in power since 2014 and will be seeking re-election in the upcoming summer. In his lifetime, Parrikar earned the reputation for leading a restrained, simple life, being an astute politician, fast decision maker and an efficient administrator. He also was attacked for his political ideology, which was shaped by the early grooming at RSS that promotes a majoritarian view that glorifies Hindu traditions, and denounces any additional sops for social or religious minorities irrespective of their status.

Moving an inch forward in ‘<keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make in India</keyword>’ initiative in defence production, Gurgaon-based <keyword id="340571" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sun-Group">Sun Group</keyword> may partner with Russia to make light helicopters. 
 
If everything goes as planned, 200 Kamov Ka 226 light helicopters may replace the ageing Cheetah fleet, which services one of the world’s highest military deployments on the Siachen glacier. 
 
Economic Times reported that work on the Russian deal, by nomination, had begun after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit last year in December and assurances were exchanged at the highest levels to look into this project. 
 The facility may come up in Goa as a feasibility study was conducted to set up a chopper line in the coastal soon after <keyword id="6363133" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Manohar-Parrikar">Manohar Parrikar</keyword>, former Goa CM, took over as defence minister. 
 
If the deal works out, it would be the second major defence project for the state. Parrikar had already announced that the Goa Shipyard was nominated to construct 12 minesweepers for the Indian Navy in a contract that is expected to cost over $1 billion. 
 The financial daily stated that while <keyword id="2852683" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="russian-helicopters">Russian Helicopters</keyword> (RH) is in talks with a handful of possible Indian partners, the lead contender happens to be the Gurgaon-based Sun Group. 
 
As per insiders, the group may get a significant share of the deal, which might cross a whooping amount of $700 million. RH is likely to produce at least 200 choppers in India. 
 However, the company is also planning to involve <keyword id="86569" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Hindustan-Aeronautics-Limited">Hindustan Aeronautics Limited</keyword> (HAL), and partnerships with other private firms are not ruled out. 
 
Vice-Chairman and founder of Sun Group Shiv Vikram Khemka has been a non-executive director on the board of RH since 2011 and has already set up a helicopter division. He is likely to be involved in the ‘Make in India’ project. 
 
While the Sun Group did not respond to a detailed questionnaire sent by ET, company officials said things were at a preliminary stage and it was too early to comment. 
 
But according to sources, Sun Group was also an offset partner for RH in a previous competition to supply light choppers to the army, a process which was cancelled by the government last year. 
 
Defence ministry officials, on the condition of anonymity, told ET that the RH deal had effectively killed any other light helicopter project for the armed forces, including a process that was initiated earlier this year for an Indian-led JV to manufacture a new range of choppers.
