Each of these shares, called American depositary receipts (ADRs), represents two underlying shares in JD.com. No details of when the donation will be completed, or which foundation will benefit from it, were mentioned in the release. Sensex, Nifty50 likely to open lower amid mixed global cues: SBI, ITC, Vodafone Idea among stocks in focus

Largest private sector lender <keyword id="6357149" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="hdfc-bank">HDFC Bank</keyword> on Monday denied the allegations of misleading claims levelled by a US-based law firm to seek damages in a class action suit. The bank vowed to defend itself "vigorously" in the lawsuit and added that the response to the lawsuit will be ready by early next year. <keyword id="9273308" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rosen-Legal">Rosen Legal</keyword> last week filed the class action suit seeking damages for the losses incurred by investors because of alleged "materially false and misleading" representations by HDFC Bank. It had specifically named the bank's chief executive and managing director of over 25 years, <keyword id="6406769" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="aditya-puri">Aditya Puri</keyword>, his designated successor <keyword id="6836606" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sashidhar-jagdishan">Sashidhar Jagdishan</keyword> and company secretary <keyword id="434855" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Santosh-Haldankar">Santosh Haldankar</keyword> as defendants. The bank said the lawsuit has been filed against three of its employees by a "single small security holder who seeks to represent a class" of its security holders, and is based on allegations, that the security holder claims, caused a temporary decline in the Bank's ADR (American Depository Receipt) stock price in July. "The Bank denies the allegations and intends to defend itself vigorously in the lawsuit," it said in an exchange filing. The complaint did not mention the exact quantum of the damages sought though it maintained that may be thousands of investors would have suffered. As per the suit, bank officials "engaged in a plan, scheme, conspiracy and course of conduct, pursuant to which they knowingly or recklessly engaged in acts, transactions, practices and courses of business which operated as a fraud and deceit", resulting in the losses to investors. The allegations pertain to the vehicle finance vertical, where the Bank has later acknowledged to have found some improprieties which resulted in some executives being acted against. The bank had inadequate disclosure controls and procedures and internal control over financial reporting, maintained improper lending practices in the vehicle financing making the operations unsustainable and all this was likely to have a materially negative impact on its financial condition and reputation, it alleged. "The Bank's public statements were materially false and misleading at all relevant times," the suit claims, adding the defendants "knew that the adverse facts" had not been disclosed and were being "concealed from the public". The period during which the losses are alleged to have happened to the investors is between July 31, 2019 and July 10, 2020 which is referred to as the "class period". Initially, the bank had termed the move to file the suit as "frivolous" and asserted that it has been transparent in all its disclosures. According to reports, the bank used to bundle vehicle tracking devices along with auto loans sold by it, resulting in an additional cost to the borrower, and also concerns over privacy. There was speculation over the circumstances under which its head of the unit left the office, but the bank later clarified that it was a scheduled retirement. HDFC Bank shares closed 0.82 per cent down at Rs 1,048.70 apiece on the BSE, as against 2.09 per cent correction on benchmark index Sensex. At current levels, the S&amp;P 500 is now down less than 10% from its all-time highs, though each of the major indexes are still down for the year. </li><li>The newsflow wasn't as fast and furious on Wednesday as it had been earlier this week, but the biggest headline came from New York Fed president Bill Dudley - a voting member of the FOMC - who said in a briefing on the New York-area economy that raising rates currently looks "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/us-market-update-august-26-2015-8">less compelling</a>." But as <a href="https://twitter.com/BCAppelbaum/status/636571328921870336">The New York Times' Binyamin Appelbaum noted</a>, the full context of Dudley's comments don't look quite so pessimistic on whether the Fed will raise rates in September. Dudley added that new information could make raising rates "more compelling" by the time of the September 16-17 meeting. And so while many in the market may have made up their minds on what the Fed is going to do, the situation seems highly uncertain. </li><li>On the economic data front, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/durable-goods-orders-august-26-2015-8">durable goods orders for the month of July</a> came in better than expected, with orders rising 2% against the prior month and 2.2% on a "core" basis, which excludes defense orders and airplanes. In a note to clients following the report, Ian Shepherdson at Pantheon Macro said the "core" figure was the report's best news, adding that, "This is consistent with our view that the drop in equipment spending in the oil sector is now over, and that the rising underlying trend in non-oil spending is now becoming the dominant force again."</li><li>And while the volatility in the stock market has taken center stage, the underlying activity in the economy still appears robust. Or at least solid. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/us-economy-still-in-good-shape-2015-8">Business Insider's Bob Bryan rounded up</a> a number of comments from economists on Wall Street, who almost uniformly asserted that the theme of a steadily, but not spectacularly, improving US economy remains intact. </li><li>In individual stock news, one of the biggest merger proposals of the year blew up when agricultural giant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/one-of-the-biggest-potential-ma-deals-of-the-year-just-fell-apart-2015-8">Monsanto revealed</a> that it would drop its pursuit of crop-protection product maker Syngenta. The news sent shares of Monsanto up about 8% while US-listed ADRs of Syngenta fell 13%. A potential tie-up between the two companies would have been valued at around $45 billion. </li><li>And while it seems like old news by the US close, keep an eye on China's market open on Wednesday night. In Wednesday's overnight session intervention from Chinese authorities was not enough to stop the Shanghai Composite from having a wild ride, with the index <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/here-comes-the-china-market-open-2015-8">eventually closing in the red</a> for the third straight day this week. The company raised its dividend to $0.52 per share from $0.47 and increased its buyback authorisation to $140 billion from $90 billion.
