<ul><li>The decision to sell <keyword id="6359005" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tomatoes" source="Orion">tomatoes</keyword> through the <keyword id="54468" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ration-shops" source="Orion">ration shops</keyword> was made at a meeting chaired by the Minister. </li><li>A decline in the arrivals of tomatoes from the neighbouring states triggered a <keyword id="73422" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="price-hike" source="Orion">price hike</keyword>. </li><li>Steps would be taken to make tomatoes available through the <keyword id="113024" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fair-price-shops" source="Orion">fair price shops</keyword> in other parts of the state.</li></ul> Seeking to offset the <keyword id="1718974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="soaring-price" source="Orion">soaring price</keyword> of tomatoes, the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday launched the sale of the precious commodity at Rs 60 a kilo at 82 fair price shops in the city. This initiative would be extended to other parts of the state if required, Minister for Cooperatives K R Periyakaruppan said. <br /><br /> The latest move is in addition to the Pannai Pasumai (Farm Fresh) outlets in Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Vellore making tomatoes available at Rs 60 per kilo, he said. The decision to sell tomatoes through the ration shops was made at a meeting chaired by the Minister at the secretariat on Monday evening. Also, the Minister directed the Cooperatives and horticulture department officials to identify the tomato cultivation areas and ensure an uninterrupted supply to the consumers across Tamil Nadu. <br /><br /> At the meeting, it was informed that a decline in the arrivals of tomatoes from the neighbouring states triggered a hike in the prices. According to a source in the Koyambedu wholesale market here, tomatoes were being sold at a retail price of Rs 110 per kg and in certain areas in the city the price was higher. An official in the Cooperatives department said it has been planned to provide a family one kilo of tomatoes a day. In the first phase, it will be sold at 32 locations in north Chennai, and 25 FP shops each in central and south Chennai areas. <br /><br /> Further, depending upon the requirement, steps would be taken to make tomatoes available through the fair price shops in other parts of the state, the Minister said and added "efforts are on to stabilise the price soon." The sale at the Pannai Pasumai outlets was launched recently based on the instructions from Chief Minister M K Stalin. It’s still some days left for RBI’s monetary policy review scheduled for 5<sup>th</sup> April, but the past few weeks have seen the prices of several essential food items rising. These prices were still for almost a year, which is why it has suddenly become difficult for the common man to deal with this sudden <keyword id="67286" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Food-inflation">food inflation</keyword>. <br />

While chilli and potato prices are doubled, maize, wheat and soya bean have seen a hike of 4 to 10% in the last one month. Similarly, palm oil, which until recently was at its lowest price in five years, has seen a price rise of 10% y-o-y.<br />

Sugar prices, on the other hand, have gone high by 28% in six months, registering the max hike. <br />
<br />
Analysts blame a fall in output caused by a decrease in crop area and unfavourable weather conditions for this price rise. "Globally, sugar prices will continue to go up due to the weather problems," Prerana Desai, vice-president (research) at Edelweiss Agri Value Chain, told ET.<br />
<br />
"The next crop in India is expected to be short unless there is a surprise from UP. The prices will continue to move up in the next 12 to 24 months." <br />
<br />
While February saw a fall in food inflation to 5.3% from 6.85% in January, it also brought retail inflation within RBI's target of 6%.<br />
<br />
As for potato, farmers and traders say that prices have risen 50% in the last one month because acreage fell in West Bengal and UP and also because the late blight disease damaged a majority of crop. <br />

Investors should stop obsessing over the Fed and get real about risk to earnings. </strong>That's according to Mike Wilson, Morgan Stanley's chief US equities strategist and CIO. </p><p><a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-fall-bottom-earnings-growth-risk-premium-recession-2022-8">Wilson argues that the stock market is headed for another bottoming out </a>by the end of this year, and the next leg down will kick off in September. Wilson told Bloomberg on Wednesday that investors aren't pricing in enough risk to earnings growth. </p><p>"We think earnings risk is upon us. We're cutting numbers, and we think that <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-fall-bottom-earnings-growth-risk-premium-recession-2022-8?nr_email_referer=1&amp;utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=Opening_bell&amp;utm_campaign=new:%2010%20things%20before%20the%20opening%20bell">the numbers are going to come down further over the next two quarters</a>," Wilson said.</p><p>Ultimately, he sees the S&amp;P 500 down 15%-25% in the event of either a soft landing of the economy or a full blown recession in the worst case. </p><p><strong>And, as UBS argues, the odds of said recession have increased dramatically this summer.</strong> <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/economy-recession-odds-60-percent-economic-gdp-decline-yield-curve-2022-8">The Swiss bank said in a note to clients this week</a> that macroeconomic data points to a 60% chance the US economy will enter a recession in the next 12 months. That's up from 40% at the beginning of the summer. </p><p>Three factors are pointing the bank toward this prediction: macro data, the US treasury yield curve, and credit market data. <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/economy-recession-odds-60-percent-economic-gdp-decline-yield-curve-2022-8">The good news for now</a> is that the bank's models are not pointing to a full recession. </p><p>"As we have argued before, historically, not all (sharp) slowdowns lead to recession... The market is laser focused on the Fed, but there are other risks investors are not pricing in as a possible recession looms

<ul class="summary-list"><li>I took a three-day trip to <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-places-to-visit-in-fall-2018-9">Martha's Vineyard in October</a>, well after the summer crowds had cleared.</li><li>Visiting in the fall had its benefits, like access to private beaches and shorter lines.</li></ul><p>For many years, my <a href="https://www.insider.com/where-to-go-in-massachusetts-besides-boston">knowledge of Martha's Vineyard</a> was limited to hazy childhood memories of a family trip there and headlines about celebrities flocking to its shores.</p><p>But through a series of pandemic-related twists and turns, I found myself living and working on the small Massachusetts island during the popular summer season.</p><p>There were plenty of upsides to living on Martha's Vineyard, but being there in the summer — when the 17,000-person year-round population <a href="https://www.mvy.com/island-information.html">can swell up to 200,000</a> — brought challenges like long lines, large crowds, and a scarcity of reasonably priced rentals.</p><p>For these reasons, many full-time residents and frequent visitors prefer to come in the shoulder season, which is April and September.</p><p>With this in mind, I decided to come back for an off-season trip of my own in October and <a href="https://www.insider.com/where-to-go-on-vacation-with-your-partner-2019-4">brought my partner</a>, a first-time visitor, along for the three-day ride. </p><h2>The first step was getting to the island, which required a drive and a ferry ride</h2><div type="image" title="Driving off the ferry and onto the vineyard at sunset." height="3024" width="4032" msid="95476552" hostid="261" sizebytes="470108"></div><p>Martha's Vineyard is an island, so the only way to get there is by ferry or plane.</p><p>We <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-road-trips-in-the-world-2018-7">opted to drive and bring my car</a> onto the ferry. Purchasing a ferry ticket that included my car was much more expensive than just walking on. A standard adult ticket was $9.50 and could be purchased on the same day, but a ticket with a car was $100 and had to be reserved in advance.</p><p>But in my opinion, having my car on the island was worth the extra planning and expense. </p><p>If you stay in a central location, you can walk or take the bus to many places. However, Martha's Vineyard is bigger than one might expect, with six unique towns and long winding roads leading to hidden beaches.</p><p>Walking, biking, or relying on the bus wouldn't allow you to take advantage of everything the island has to offer in a short amount of time.</p><h2>Airbnb rentals appeared to be significantly less expensive in October</h2><p>We were lucky enough to stay with my friend on this trip but a <a href="https://www.insider.com/most-popular-tiny-airbnb-homes-2019-4">quick perusal of Airbnbs</a> showed a wide array of options to choose from, with fall prices slashed by as much as $150 per night from their summertime rates. </p><p>Some hotels were still open in October, but I recommend booking a place with a kitchen if possible, as many restaurants were closed in the off-season. Luckily, Martha's Vineyard had wonderful farms open year-round where we could purchase meat and produce.</p><h2>A lot of the shops were still open, and many were running sales</h2><p>The weather on our first morning was a bit gray, so we took a trip to the Dumptique, a shop <a href="https://www.mvtimes.com/2021/10/22/one-persons-trash-another-persons-treasure/">run on donations and volunteers</a>. Anyone could walk in, pick something off the racks, and take it home free of charge. It was amazing. </p><p>From there, we drove to Main Street in Vineyard Haven to grab lunch. The street was lined with pretty much everything you might look for on vacation: beach gear, clothes, books, coffee, ice cream, and more. We stopped at a few more places to hit the off-season sales.</p><p>Do your research and check restaurants' and shops' schedules before showing up at their doors. We found that some had amended hours during the off-season. </p><h2>We split a mouthwatering lunch at Waterside Market</h2><p>Our stomachs were growling, so we made our way to <a href="https://watersidemarket.com/our-menu/">Waterside Market</a>. </p><p>You might recognize Waterside from celebrity chef Guy Fieri's "<a href="https://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/diners-drive-ins-and-dives">Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives</a>." In my opinion, it has the best BLT on the island. </p><p>The sandwich is enormous, so be prepared to split it with a friend or bring it to the beach for sustenance when you get hungry again hours later. </p><h2>Visiting in the off-season gave us access to some beaches that were closed off to the public during the summer</h2><div type="image" title="A sunny fall beach day at Lamberts Cove." height="3024" width="4032" msid="95476555" hostid="261" sizebytes="1096208"></div><p>During the summer months, some beaches<a href="https://www.insider.com/secret-beaches-to-beat-the-crowds-2018-4"> were only accessible to residents or visitors</a> in certain towns who had purchased a beach pass. But during the off-season, many of these beaches were open for public use. </p><p>We took advantage of the access during a trip to Lambert's Cove, a beach in West Tisbury.</p><p>We went on a short walk through the trees <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-beaches-in-winter-for-vacation-2018-12">to a broad beach</a> nestled into the cove off of the Vineyard Sound.</p><p>The clouds cleared, so we decided to lay in the sand underneath the full sun and blue sky, joined only by one other couple and the occasional dog and owner who scampered by us.</p><h2>The sky was clear enough to watch the sun go down at Aquinnah</h2><div type="image" title="sunset at the lookout point in Aquinnah, the western end of the island." height="769" width="1024" msid="95476557" hostid="261" sizebytes="59108"></div><p>When we started to get chilly, we drove up the island to see the sunset in a town called Aquinnah.</p><p>We stopped at a few farm stands on the way, grabbing lassis, a yogurt-based drink that originated in India, from Mermaid Farm and fresh produce for dinner from <a href="https://www.beetlebungfarm.org/">Beetlebung</a>.</p><p>The lookout point in Aquinnah was majestic, with striking cliffs and sweeping views of the sun setting over the Atlantic Ocean. It was the perfect way to end our first day. </p><h2>My partner and I had no problem finding Wi-Fi at a local café </h2><p>Both my partner and I had to work, so we drove to a café in Edgartown and indulged in fall-spice lattes and a lemon loaf as we shot off emails. </p><p>The café closed at 2 p.m., so we called it a day then. If you need to work later when you're on the island, the <a href="https://westtisburylibrary.org/publiclibrary/">West Tisbury Public Library</a> also had free internet and plenty of open tables. </p><h2>A hike through Menemsha Hills allowed us to admire the fall foliage</h2><div type="image" title="Enjoying fresh seafood in Menemsha in front of another beautiful sunset." height="3024" width="4032" msid="95476560" hostid="261" sizebytes="471316"></div><p>With our work done, we met up with my friend for a hike in Menemsha Hills. </p><p>If you're looking for scenic fall foliage, Martha's Vineyard has it in droves. October was the perfect time to <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-fall-hikes-in-the-us-2018-10">experience the changing leaves</a> in all of their glory.</p><p>Menemsha Hills had a few different hiking loops. None of them were particularly challenging, but I still recommend wearing boots or sneakers and packing water.</p><p>Once the sun went down, the temperature dropped quickly. Bring layers.</p><h2>No trip to Martha's Vineyard is complete without some seafood, and we didn't have to wait in line for it in October</h2><p>In my opinion, you can't come to Martha's Vineyard without a trip to <a href="https://www.larsensfishmarket.com/">Larsen's Fish Market</a>. So for dinner, we drove there for <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-and-worst-things-to-get-at-seafood-restaurant-2021-8">lobster rolls, clam chowder, and oysters</a>.</p><p>During the summer months, I've seen the line for Larsen's stretch out the door. In October, we were the first and only people waiting. We got to enjoy our food just as the sun was setting. </p><h2>We started our last day with delicious pastries from Grey Barn</h2><div type="image" title="Devouring pastries from the Grey Barn on my friend’s deck." height="3024" width="4032" msid="95476561" hostid="261" sizebytes="892310"></div><p>My friend works at a farm and bakery called <a href="https://www.thegreybarnandfarm.com/">The Grey Barn</a>, so I began my morning by visiting her there and <a href="https://www.insider.com/bakers-share-best-and-worst-desserts-to-order-at-a-restaurant">grabbing some pastries</a> and bread from the farm stand.</p><h2>The magnolia trees weren't in bloom in October, but we still enjoyed our visit to the Polly Hill arboretum</h2><p>After stuffing ourselves with sugar, my partner and I went to <a href="https://www.pollyhillarboretum.org/">Polly Hill Arboretum</a>, a 70-acre public garden filled with rare trees and shrubs. </p><p>It was <a href="https://www.insider.com/traveling-during-off-season-cons-2018-8">too late in the season</a> to see the magnificent magnolia trees in bloom, but the arboretum was still a beautiful place to stroll through. What's more, we had the entire place practically to ourselves. We only saw one other duo the whole time were were there. </p><h2>The ocean water was cold, but it didn't stop us from taking a plunge</h2><p>I promised myself I'd swim at least one time on this trip. So after our arboretum visit, we bundled up and drove to Joseph Sylvia State beach, home to the American Legion Memorial Bridge known as the "Jaws" bridge for its appearance in the <a href="https://www.insider.com/shark-films-ranked-2018-8">1975 film</a>. </p><p>The water was cold but glorious. It glittered in the sun and sent an icy shock through our systems that left us feeling exhilarated. Don't be afraid of the icy polar plunge — I've never regretted a swim on Martha's Vineyard. </p><p>After our final trip to the beach, we went home and cooked a delicious dinner with locally caught scallops. Dessert was a homemade crisp using apples that my friend had picked down the road. </p><h2>Martha's Vineyard was quieter and more peaceful in the fall, and I recommend it to those in need of a getaway</h2><p>As we waited to get on the ferry the next morning, I asked my partner how she would describe our trip. She said, "peaceful." </p><p>You may not get a suntan or the chance to <a href="https://www.insider.com/celebrities-reveal-favorite-travel-destinations-2018-4">rub elbows with a vacationing celebrity</a>, but the experience you get in return is just as valuable. </p><p>Our October trip to Martha's Vineyard became one of my favorite memories on the island to date, and I returned home feeling genuinely relaxed and rejuvenated.</p>

And a stitchdown welt means these things aren't just heavy-duty; they can be resoled. Kevlar would be nicer for weight, but you'd be paying a premium to get it.</p><p>An 8-inch height with lace-to-toe design means you and your ankles will remain secure in your boots, and you'll also be able to get plenty deep in streams (or bogs or swamps) before taking water in over the top.</p><p>As a sidenote, these fit a bit narrow. Or maybe we wanted to change it up with a few brown trout. Whatever you choose to believe, we drenched these boots.</p><p>They were a little slippery on smooth, wet cobblestones, but no worse than any other boot shy of felt (which you wouldn't want on a hiking or hunting boot anyhow), and the outsoles, no matter what I put them through, seemed to remain clog-free in everything from mud to gravel.</p><p>After finally leaving the river, while my feet were wet, I never felt too uncomfortable (admittedly, wool socks help), nor did I incur a single blister. Chalk that up to Danner's patented air-cushioned microfiber-lined polyurethane soles.</p><p>And lastly, it came time to see how those boots dried. It took about 12 hours on the boot warmers, but by then the insoles were dry and showed no sign of having ever been wet at all (I seem to have forgotten to photograph them, but will try to update with an "after" picture soon). These $390 waterproof hunting boots stood up to mountain passes and mucky swamps - here's why they are worth the price

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Prices for commodities like oil, natural gas and wheat soared after Russia invaded Ukraine in February.</li><li>The euro fell below parity with the dollar as markets fretted the war would trigger an economic crisis.</li></ul><p>Russia's war in Ukraine rattled commodity and currency markets in 2022, but there are signs that the worst of the disruption may be over.</p><p>Crude oil, natural gas, and food prices have all fallen back to their prewar levels, after spiking in the immediate wake of Russia's invasion in late February, and then again in summer.</p><p>Meanwhile, the <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/eur-usd">euro</a> has staged a 7% rally against the dollar over the past three months, having fallen below parity with the US currency for the first time in over two decades earlier this year.</p><p>These five charts show that the market crisis sparked by Russia's invasion may finally be coming to an end.</p><h3><strong>Energy prices slip to pre-war levels</strong></h3><p>Benchmark oil prices soared in the weeks after war broke out in Ukraine, peaking at just under $130 a barrel on March 8.</p><p>Russia is the world's second-largest crude exporter, so western sanctions against the Kremlin like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gas-price-outlook-forecast-biden-russia-crude-oil-ban-sanctions-2022-3">the US's oil embargo</a> squeezed global supply and drove prices higher.</p><p>But <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/oil-price?type=brent">Brent</a> and <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/oil-price/euro?type=wti">West Texas Intermediate</a> oil prices have fallen steadily since July and now trade close to their pre-war levels at around $80 a barrel.</p><p>China, which is the world's largest oil importer, has struggled to reopen its economy after two years of harsh "zero-COVID" lockdowns. A sharp rise in workers testing positive for the virus has weighed on the country's demand for crude.</p><p>The combination of a global recession and central bank interest-rate hikes next year could further suppress prices, even if the war between Russia and Ukraine drags on, strategists said.</p><p>"In large part, oil prices have declined in recent months due to recessionary fears and increasing interest rates in many developed economies," said Jorge Leon, a senior oil markets research strategist at Rystad Energy.</p><p>"A worsening of the situation in Ukraine could also provide bearish signals to the market as a result of the global economic slowdown," he told Insider.</p><p>Natural gas prices soared in the summer too. <a href="https://www.theice.com/products/27996665/Dutch-TTF-Gas-Futures/data?marketId=5477499&amp;span=2">Dutch TTF futures</a> rose nearly 300% between February and late August as Russia cut off flows through key pipelines such as Nord Stream 1.</p><p>But like oil, benchmark natural gas prices have retreated in the second half of the year to under 100 euros ($106) per megawatt hour. That means they are now up only around 10% from pre-invasion levels.</p><p>The European Union asked its member states to try to reach their gas storage targets several months early, after Russia invaded Ukraine. Meanwhile, countries including <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/europe-energy-crisis-commodities-liquefied-natural-gas-terminals-italy-finland-2022-8">Germany and Greece have bought giant floating terminals</a> so that they can import liquefied natural gas by sea.</p><p>"The gas crisis for this winter is over," Saxo Bank's head of commodity strategy Ole Hansen told Insider. "The combination of very strong inventory levels and record shipments of LNG will likely prevent any risk to supply."</p><h3><strong>Food prices edge lower</strong></h3><p>Ukraine is often described as "the breadbasket of Europe" because it produces and exports vast amounts of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/wheat-price/usd">wheat</a> and <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/corn-price">corn</a> to the continent.</p><p>Russia's invasion in February fueled <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/global-food-crisis-higher-prices-shortages-civil-unrest-2022-8">fears that there would be a prolonged global food crisis</a> that would push already-soaring inflation even higher.</p><p>Wheat futures prices nearly doubled to spike at $14.25 per bushel two weeks after war broke out, while corn futures prices edged up 16% to $7.81 per bushel between February and July.</p><p>But like oil and natural gas, both commodities now trade close to their pre-war levels.</p><p>Prices have fallen since July – the month that Turkey brokered a deal between Russia and the United Nations to allows key food exports to continue from three Ukrainian ports.</p><p>"The UN plan, which also paves the way for Russian food and fertilizer to reach global markets, will help to stabilize spiraling food prices worldwide and stave off famine," the organization said in a <a href="https://www.un.org/en/black-sea-grain-initiative">statement</a>.</p><h3><strong>Euro bounces back</strong></h3><p>The euro plunged against the dollar in the immediate aftermath of Russia's invasion and continued to struggle for most of 2022.</p><p><strong> </strong>War in Ukraine hammered investors' confidence in the Eurozone economy, while the Federal Reserve's aggressive interest rate hikes made the dollar more attractive than the euro for investors seeking higher yields.<strong> </strong></p><p>The euro fell below parity with the greenback for the first time in 20 years on September 2,  and traded below 96 cents at the end of that month for its weakest level of 2022.</p><p>But the euro has mounted a comeback in the final quarter of the year, rallying by over 10% to hit $1.06.</p><p>The European Central Bank has signaled it'll bring in outsized rate hikes in 2023 to clamp down on inflation, while investors expect the Fed to ease up on tightening next year.</p><p>Currencies also reflect an area's economic health.</p><p><a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/european-energy-crisis-where-the-eu-gets-its-natural-gas-2022-8">Russia stoked a European energy crisis</a> earlier this year by slashing gas flows. But the cold season has been less chilly than expected, and that has limited Moscow's ability to keep disrupting the Eurozone economy, one strategist said.</p><p>"The warmer start to the winter period alleviated some concerns about energy depletion and gas security," Oanda market analyst Craig Erlam told Insider. </p><p>"Europe's probably still either in or heading for a recession – but it's not just about technical definitions, it's about the depths of said recession," he added. "So that's helped to lift the Euro."</p>

The market chaos sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine may finally be over, according to these 5 charts

<p><strong>Well, well, well, if it isn't another day of key economic data.</strong> Phil Rosen here, reporting from a chilly New York City that's showing signs of winter. </p><p>The Consumer Price Index reading for October is set to publish today at 8:30 a.m. ET, and economists expect it to still be hot, but hopefully cooling. </p><p>Year-over-year inflation for October is expected to have eased slightly to 7.9%, according to Bloomberg's median estimate, down from 8.2% September.</p><p>But here's a tidbit I did not find reassuring: The annual inflation rate came in above forecasts in six of the last seven months. </p><p>While it'd be a good sign if CPI comes in lower than September, that doesn't mean the economy is in the clear — far from it, actually.</p><p>Remember, the Fed's goal is to bring inflation all the way down to 2%. There's a high likelihood of a recession in 2023, </strong>but today's CPI print will determine just how aggressive the Fed stays with policy. </p><p>That's what Luke Tilley told me last night. He's the chief economist of Wilmington Trust, and he said his firm is expecting inflation to have <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/cpi-inflation-chief-economist-recession-odds-markets-stocks-federal-reserve-2022-11">eased more than consensus</a> predictions.</p><p>Tilley said <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/cpi-inflation-chief-economist-recession-odds-markets-stocks-federal-reserve-2022-11">he'll be watching Core CPI</a> in particular, which excludes food and energy prices. </p><p><strong>"We have this week established a mild recession</strong> for next year as our baseline outlook, 55% probability," he said. "If Core inflation comes in greater than 0.5%, the Fed will raise rates more and we would be reevaluating the probability of a recession, and <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/cpi-inflation-chief-economist-recession-odds-markets-stocks-federal-reserve-2022-11">probably raising it higher</a>."</p><p>Soaring inflation has put the Fed on its <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/cpi-inflation-chief-economist-recession-odds-markets-stocks-federal-reserve-2022-11">most hawkish campaign</a> since the 1980s, and the longer it continues, the higher the risk of a policy mistake and a downturn. </p><p><strong>Wall Street so far remains mixed </strong>on whether policymakers will opt for their fifth consecutive 75-basis-point rate hike in December, but traders are currently betting on greater odds of a half-point move. </p><p>"Last month [Core CPI] was 0.6%, tomorrow expected 0.5%, and anything below that is going to play toward reducing the Fed's hike at the next meeting," Tilley added. "So if it comes in below 0.5%, that encourages a 50-basis-point hike in December, and anything above that will push toward a 75-basis-point move."</p><p>Meanwhile, JPMorgan analysts said Wednesday they expect a 7.9% headline reading, but that any <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-october-cpi-inflation-volatility-trading-markets-if-2022-11">surprise drop in inflation</a> could bode well for stocks.</p><p>"Seeing a stepdown in inflation of this magnitude likely pulls the 10-Year yield below 4% (currently 4.158%) and <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-october-cpi-inflation-volatility-trading-markets-if-2022-11">triggers a sharp rally in stocks</a>," the firm's analysts wrote in a note.
