But, save a few, none of these restaurants (which more or less end up having similar themes and resembling each other) serve anything memorable- an unfortunate fact that a new restaurant nestled in the heart of CP is all set to change.<br />

Located right opposite <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=PVR&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">PVR</a> Plaza, <keyword id="3473175" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="piali-the-curry-bistro">Piali The Curry Bistro</keyword> has brought an unique concept for all its guests- a chance to sample curries from across the world.<br />
<br /> From the <keyword id="3473177" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="srilankan-chicken-curry">Srilankan Chicken Curry</keyword>, which had the reputation of being the staple curry of the ancient kings and Indonesian Muslim Curry, a unique chicken curry cooked with potatoes, coconut and tamarind paste to Assamese Black Sesame Curry, a special chutney prepared with garlic, chillies and mustard oil and <keyword id="3473176" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="chiang-rai-curry-noodles">Chiang Rai Curry Noodles</keyword>, a type of Thai curry prevalent in Northern Thailand, Piali’s menu has something to offer for every palate and we’re happy to report that the food holds its ground.<br />

<strong>First thoughts:</strong><br />

Climb up two flights of stairs and stand face to face with a little over two rooms that is Piali The Curry Bistro. The design is an eclectic mix between Victorian and a bachelor pad- with wood and glossy leather dominating the interiors. You’ll also spot an artificial fireplace and some fake roses here and there.<br />
<br />
Thankfully, the menu printed on beautiful paper will keep you distracted from the strange mix of old and new for the better part of your evening. The varied options of curries in the menu is a testimony to the lengths the management has gone to ensure that they have a thoughtful array of curries from all over the globe taking guests on a culinary journey rather than a mish-mash of highlights of cuisines from a few countries.<br />

It goes without saying that the highlight of the menu is the main course with its abundant (and confusing) curries, but the selection of starters and salads do put up a good fight.<br />

We sampled the Roasted Red Peppers and Tomato Soup (Rs 145) and were pleasantly surprised at the smoky and slightly sour makeover that the folks at Piali have given the good ol’ tomato soup. We’d absolutely recommend this soupy delight.<br />

Next, on our table was the Orange and Watermelon, Feta Cheese Salad (Rs 195), which was served inside a scooped out watermelon. Thick round balls of feta cheese perfectly complement the fruitiness of freshly cut watermelon and orange making it a dish that you don’t easily forget about. We were bowled over by the distinctive presentation and so would you.<br />

When it came to starters, the Roast Chicken and Caramelised Spring Rolls (Rs 345) and the fiery-grilled and understandably spicy Kohlapuri Pomfret (Rs 375) pack quite a punch. Piali also does a mean Italian Tomato Basil Bruschetta (Rs 265), so we’d also advise checking that out.<br />

More or less, the starters section comprises street-side finds from across the country, and at first glance, it does look quite promising.<br />

<strong>Curries everywhere:</strong><br />

And, at last we came to the star of the menu- the main course. We personally love how Piali hasn’t stereotyped the selection of curries only to known desi favourites but has also includes several North-Eastern and Asian delicacies.<br />

We went for the Srilankan Chicken Curry ( Rs 355) and the Chiang Rai Curry Noodles (Rs 345) for our main course and judging by how fast we licked it off our plates, it’d be safe to say that Piali is walking the talk.<br />
<br />
Served with pol rotis, the Srilankan Chicken Curry is a delightful curry boasting rich flavours and won’t take one long to finish off, while the Chiang Rai Curry Noodles are everything we want curry noodles to be. Tangy well-coooked noodles whose taste is not overpowered by coconut milk? There’s hardly anything to not love about this slurp-worthy dish.<br />

We’d however advise you to steer clear of dessert and instead sip on their interesting choice of mocktails or go the LIIT way instead.<br />

Restaurant Spotlight: This new restaurant in CP lets you indulge in
curries from around the world

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Lola Méndez has been traveling full-time for nine years and has visited 90 countries.</li><li>Chiang Mai kept drawing her back, so after her dad died, she decided to move to Thailand.</li></ul><p>At 25, after bouncing between California and New York, I left the US with no regrets and no plans to return. I traveled around the world, living in cities across Spain, Italy, India, Vietnam, Uruguay, and Mexico — and visited 90 countries. Eventually I realized that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennial-built-luxury-home-thailand-relocation-debt-free-chiang-mai-2024-5">Chiang Mai</a>, Thailand, was the only place I wanted to live.</p><p>My first trip to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-back-to-us-after-living-abroad-thailand-regret-home-2024-5">Thailand</a>, in December 2015, came a few months after leaving America. It was also my first time in Asia. I had started following the teachings of Buddha and was eager to visit a country where they were practiced. On my first visit, I spoke with monks, meditated in temples, and visited countless golden statues.</p><p>I became obsessed with Thai massages and was happily introduced to what became my favorite dish, Khao Soi — egg noodles in a coconut curry soup. When my monthlong vacation came to an end, I sobbed. I was determined to return.</p><p>As a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-a-freelance-journalist-takes-vacation-without-losing-business-2020-10">freelance journalist</a>, my job continued to lead me around the world over the next few years, including another three-month stint in Chiang Mai. But when my family needed help at home, I returned to Latin America to be close to my parents.</p><h2 id="678f6c47-98a3-46e9-946c-3ccf53b0160c">Missing Chiang Mai over the years</h2><p>Over the next five years — spent between Uruguay and Mexico — I felt an ache in my heart for Chiang Mai. I'd tell everyone who would listen about my experiences in northern Thailand. At the time, my father was sick, and living that far away was not an option. The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wearing-fathers-clothes-after-death-feel-close-to-him-2024-6">day he died,</a> a close friend told me to follow my heart and move to Thailand.</p><p>A year and a half later, when I was invited on a press <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/thailand-bangkok-tourist-mistake-travel-guide-local-tips-2023-4">trip to Bangkok</a>, it felt like the universe was permitting me to move back to Chiang Mai and I took the opportunity. As the plane descended into <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/expat-bangkok-thailand-better-life-low-cost-living-culture-home-2024-5">Thailand</a>, and I spotted the first pagoda, I knew I had made the right choice.</p><div type="image" title="Woman standing outside of golden Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand." height="2268" width="3024" msid="111740362" hostid="261" sizebytes="709886"></div><h2 id="f9ed237e-b5d4-495b-9b39-104d394afb6e">Chiang Mai is affordable for me as a foreigner</h2><p>Thai legislation also motivated my move back to Chiang Mai. I use cannabis medicinally, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-chiang-mai-the-budding-cannabis-paradise-of-thailand-marijuana-2023-1">marijuana was legalized</a> in 2022. Thailand is also to become the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/world/asia/thailand-to-become-first-southeast-asian-country-to-legalize-same-sex-marriage-ba8a8dc1">first country in Southeast Asia</a> to legalize same-sex marriage, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taiwan-legalizes-same-sex-marriage-gay-lgbt-2019-5">Taiwan being the first in Asia</a>.</p><p>I'm only comfortable living in places where I don't face legal repercussions for being queer.</p><p>In Chiang Mai I pay $355 per month for rent, $300 less than what I was paying in Puerto Vallarta and four times cheaper than my <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/living-new-york-young-pros-cons-not-worth-it-2024-1">New York City rent</a>.</p><p>I make an effort to rent from locals to ensure my tourist dollars stay in local hands. Motorbike taxis cost less than $2 within a 15-minute radius. I've built a community by attending events that align with my interests including yoga classes, pottery workshops, coworking meetups, and dance lessons.</p><p>I can buy over six pounds of mangoes, dragon fruit, and mangosteen for less than $5. Thai massages cost between $3 and $30 an hour, and I've found an English-speaking therapist who charges $35 for in-person sessions.</p><p>Most importantly, I feel welcomed by the Thai people. I plan to keep traveling, but want Chiang Mai to be my base. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Thai-American millennial Dylan Eitharong started connecting to his roots by cooking Thai food in Orlando.</li><li>In 2019, he moved to Thailand to learn more and went on to open his supper club, Haawm.</li></ul><p>As a half-Thai, half-American kid growing up in Florida, Dylan Eitharong often felt out of place.</p><p>His father, a Thai immigrant, was focused on building a new life in the US and rarely taught him about <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/thailand-bangkok-tourist-mistake-travel-guide-local-tips-2023-4">Thai culture</a>. But it was a comment his dad made while the family was eating out at a Chinese restaurant that sparked his curiosity about Thai cuisine.</p><p>"My dad told me this was 'real' Chinese food. It was different from the American Chinese takeout food. That made me think: If this is 'real' Chinese food, then is there 'real' <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jay-fai-michelin-star-bangkok-street-food-stall-review-price-2022-8">Thai food</a> too?" Eitharong told Business Insider.</p><p>His dad told him he'd have to figure out this for himself. "After that, I just fell into that wormhole, wanting to know what it was really like and what it tasted like," Eitharong said.</p><p>Eitharong, now 32, said the Thai restaurants he had grown up with in the US served things like green curry with bell peppers, and nothing was ever too spicy. "After that, I felt like this cooking thing was kinda fun so I just dropped out of school," Eitharong said.</p><p>He went on to open his own pop-up, Bangrak Thai Street Kitchen, and expand his menu to serve street favorites such as khao soi (noodles with curry soup) and fried rice with fermented pork sausages.</p><p>Eitharong kept trying out new recipes but eventually concluded there was only so much he could learn in the US: "I had never been to Thailand before I was 23." After his first <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-back-to-us-after-living-abroad-thailand-regret-home-2024-5">trip to Thailand</a>, he continued to fly back and forth between Thailand and Florida every few months.</p><div type="image" title="Front door outside Haawm supper club in Bangkok" height="3024" width="4032" msid="110622251" hostid="261" sizebytes="482828"></div><h2 id="92cfaf59-1788-428d-abb7-c8e332bfd0a7">Thanks to Covid, Haawm was born</h2><p>Eitharong took up Thai cooking masterclasses with a renowned food scholar, Hanuman Aspler, in Chiang Mai — a province in northern Thailand. Back in Bangkok, he worked as a chef at a contemporary Thai restaurant, before he moved on to set up his own pop-ups.</p><p>In 2019, he <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/expat-bangkok-thailand-better-life-low-cost-living-culture-home-2024-5">moved to Thailand</a>. His goal was to continue learning more about Thai food. "In that first year, I wasn't getting the experience I wanted living in Thailand though, because Covid was happening," Eitharong said.</p><p>Forced to quarantine at his aunt's old townhouse deep in the residential Bangkok<strong> </strong>neighborhood of Onnut, he spent his free time teaching himself the language so he could read old <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chrissy-teigen-embarrassed-mom-pepper-thai-food-cookbook-2021-4">Thai recipe books</a>. During this time, he learned how to cook less common dishes and forge his own style of loud, maximalist flavors.</p><p>"It was curry that made it immediately click for me, that Thai food in Thailand doesn't taste like what you eat in America," he said. "In the US, curry was disgusting, and I hated eating it as a kid. It's a can of coconut milk and curry paste blown up together. If it's green curry, it's this beige color but here, it's delicious, complicated, and there's oil on top," he said. Curry became his main focus.</p><div type="image" title="Table set at Haawm supper club in Bangkok" height="3024" width="4032" msid="110622256" hostid="261" sizebytes="567824"></div><h2 id="55f63b75-6f2f-46f9-8cee-1941d3b28e2b">Casual but cool dining</h2><p>Initially, his aunt had wanted him to run her renovated townhouse as an Airbnb. Instead, he converted the space into a private supper club and named it <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/haawmbkk/?hl=en">Haawm</a>, which means "smells good" in Thai.</p><p>He invested 60,000 baht, or $1,639, to set up Haawm. Eitharong decked out the two rooms on the ground floor of the townhouse with pieces he picked up at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-to-do-in-bangkok-thailand">Srinakarin Night Train Market</a> — famously filled with antiques and vintage memorabilia.</p><p>Splashed in magenta and purple neon lights, the space is now decked out with vintage Thai posters, weave trays, a banana neon sign, and hot pink floral tablecloths.</p><p>Haawm's popularity in Bangkok spread through word of mouth and his inbox became flooded with people interested in the dining experience. He credits the pandemic for his supper club's success. "Without Covid, there would be no Haawm," said Eitharong. "People wanted to eat with their friends. This was the perfect set-up because they could eat and have fun with their friends but wouldn't be out in public. That's why it took off I think."</p><div type="image" title="Thai dishes being served at Haawm Thai supper club in Bangkok" height="3024" width="4032" msid="110622258" hostid="261" sizebytes="555126"></div><p>Upon arrival, diners are greeted with a playlist that bounces between Green Day and Randy Travis to Prince and Beyoncé. Two tables are set up that seat six to eight people each. Groups of six people can have the table to themselves, while lone diners are seated with others. As Haawm operates only Wednesday through Saturday, serving two rounds of diners each night, he said his bookings fill up months in advance.</p><p>A typical meal at Haawm starts with four snacks, before the six mains are served together to be shared. Two desserts round off the meal. No alcohol is sold, but diners can bring their own booze. The price fluctuates according to the menu, but it starts at 2,800 baht, or $77, per person.</p><div type="image" title="A tray filled with Thai dessert at Haawm supper club in Bangkok" height="3024" width="4032" msid="110622260" hostid="261" sizebytes="423206"></div><p>Despite Eitharong's culturally mixed upbringing, he sticks to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/oldest-soup-in-world-wattana-panich-bangkok-food-thailand-2022-8">authentic Thai food </a>and never fusion. When I visited for BI,<strong> </strong>one snack, somewhat resembling a taco, was a spoonful of spicy duck laab (meat salad) served on a curved, deep-fried kratom leaf. A less familiar dish, jee juan beef curry, made an appearance as well. The chef made it a point to explain that it only differs slightly from the ever-popular massaman curry.</p><p>Eitharong's presence, too, was memorable. A few people have claimed he's not cooking <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jay-fai-michelin-star-bangkok-street-food-stall-review-price-2022-8">Thai food </a>because he's American. "I'm used to it, though. The ultimate approval for me is when moms and grandmas come here and love it," he said.</p><p>"For us, the Thai palate is still the most important one we want to please," he added.</p><p>Siradej Donavanik, 38, has been to Haawn six times. "When I tasted the first bite, it was just wow and all these explosions. My only gripe is how hard it is to book because sometimes Dylan will just decide he's off to America to cook for two weeks," he told BI.</p><p>Food and travel writer Vincent Vichit-Vadakan told BI he appreciates how<strong> </strong>Eitharong has switched up the local food scene. "He doesn't feel bound by the rules of classic culinary school techniques or the weight of Thai tradition," Vichit-Vadakan said of the chef. He's made back his investment, but credits that to having to pay his aunt an affordable monthly 12,000 baht for rent.</p><p>He said the plus side of running a supper club is the predictability, as you don't have to worry about rainy days when no diners will show up. He can plan ahead when it comes to both ingredients and staff. He hopes to be open for more nights and remodel the kitchen in the future.</p><p>"In a post-Covid world, the small, intimate dining experience works better for chefs," Eitharong said. "There's a whole culture of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/restaurants-america-eating-out-crisis-your-fault-labor-shortage-tipping-2024-2">overworking that comes with food</a>. I don't think that needs to be necessary, and I'd like to stick with that. I didn't think Haawm would take off like it did and I didn't think I'd still be doing it now."</p>

Over my last 10 years living and working in the Thai capital, I've constantly tried new restaurants as a guidebook author and <keyword id="11896628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="travel" source="Orion">travel</keyword> journalist, and have watched the scene flourish with fresh talent and tastes.</p><p>The Thai capital will always be known for its no-frills street food culture, but lately, I've also noticed a new crop of forward-thinking restaurants pushing the boundaries of flavor while still paying homage to Thai identity. </p><p>These are some of the restaurants where you can experience some of <keyword id="11906678" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="thailand" source="Orion">Thailand</keyword>'s most exciting contributions to global cuisine.</p><div type="image" title="Canvas restaurant Bangkok, Thailand Pietro Lo Casto for Insider" height="1666" width="2222" msid="92064149" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Canvas</strong></p><p><a href="https://www.canvasbangkok.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Canvas</a> is my favorite restaurant in Bangkok right now. I've been to fine dining restaurants around the world but was blown away by an experience here unlike anything I've ever had before.</p><p>The 18-course menu here is the definition of "food as art." Each dish is arranged, stroked, or dabbed onto the plate like paint. Among the most impressive is a medley of 33 different vegetables reminiscent of a Pollock masterpiece. A book of artwork (painted by the chef himself during the pandemic) also accompanies the meal. </p><p>I loved how a wide geographic area of Thailand was represented through the meal with rare ingredients such as Hua Hin caviar and candied coffee flowers from Chiang Mai. Request a seat at the bar overlooking the open kitchen so you can see the troupe of chefs working with those ingredients — including live Phuket rainbow lobster — while zigzagging between burners and plating stations.</p><p><strong>Umi</strong></p><p>I go to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/umi49" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Umi</a> when I want an amazing omakase experience run by a master Thai chef trained in Japan. Out of all of Bangkok's omakase menus, this one is known for sourcing some of the best, hard-to-find ingredients and seafood from Japan weekly. From personal experience, it's a great restaurant to eat solo at as there's so much to feast your eyes on, like the sushi master slicing fish and pounding fresh wasabi like a choreographed performance. The lunch menu is a more modestly priced (and less filling) alternative to the 20-item dinner experience.</p><div type="image" title="Le Normandie Bangkok Thailand Pietro Lo Casto for Insider" height="1665" width="2220" msid="92064151" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Le Normandie</strong></p><p>Since its opening in 1958, <a href="http://www.mandarinoriental.com/bangkok/fine-dining/le-normandie/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Le Normandie</a> has been at the top of classic French cuisine in Asia. With unparalleled views down onto the Chao Phraya, I think a special-occasion dinner in Thailand does not get better than sitting down alongside the restaurant's gold chandeliers and opulent flower arrangements. </p><p>Since December 2021, a new French chef is helming the grand traditions of Le Normandie with divine dishes like wagyu beef with truffles and pan-seared Canadian lobster. Dinner is an iconic moment, but I prefer the three-course lunch menu for its more economical price plus bright daytime views of longtail boats on the river.</p><p><strong>Sorn</strong></p><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/sornfinesouthern/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Sorn</a>, a fine-dining space serving southern Thai cuisine, is what I consider to be Bangkok's most exclusive eatery at the moment. With 20 dinner-only seats, it's constantly booked, and only 10% of reservations are saved for international diners, so you'll need to email your request to the restaurant. I managed to get a table after a last-minute cancellation, so if you're flexible, be sure to mention it.</p><p>Unlike what seems like most of the capital's contemporary restaurants these days, Sorn offers a menu of just five courses instead of upwards of a dozen, and everything's served in a family-sharing style. You'll come across dishes and techniques including a yellow curry with mangosteen and gu fish and ingredients like sugar palm and coconut milk prepared from scratch daily in-house.</p><div type="image" title="Paste restaurant Bangkok Thailand Pietro Lo Casto for Insider" height="1666" width="2222" msid="92064152" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Paste</strong></p><p>If you're looking for a chance to lap up Michelin-starred Thai cuisine in Bangkok, this is where I would go. Based upon royal Thai gastronomy, <a href="https://www.pastebangkok.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Paste</a>'s dishes feature lavish local ingredients in uncommon yet time-worn recipes such as watermelon and fish roe soup and northern Shan curry with beef cheek.</p><p>The restaurant is located in the prime real estate of Bangkok's swankiest mall, Gaysorn Village. My favorite seats in the house are the booths along the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Ratchaprasong district. From up here, I think all the taxis and tuk-tuks weaving hectically around each other look strangely peaceful.</p><div type="image" title="Jua restaurant Bangkok Thailand" height="3684" width="4912" msid="92064154" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Jua</strong></p><p><a href="https://www.juabkk.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Jua</a> is my casual-chic spot for a dinner date with friends. Tucked into a tiny industrial shophouse in Chinatown, this modern izakaya exemplifies Bangkok's affinity for Japanese cultural influences with specialty grilled skewers and shared plates.</p><p>The intimate yet buzzy atmosphere, set to an old-school hip-hop soundtrack, is a real treat. Jua's cocktails, made with Japanese liquors are also particularly well-made (the bartender also makes a mean espresso martini). For my crew, it's usually a pre-game stop before a night of bar-hopping in Chinatown at spots like Teens of Thailand and Maggie Choo.</p><p><strong>Sühring</strong></p><p>I did not expect that one of the world's most creative (and Michelin acclaimed) German restaurants would be in none other than Bangkok, but it is. At <a href="http://www.restaurantsuhring.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Sühring</a>, chef-owners Thomas and Matthias Sühring, twin brothers from East Berlin, experiment with refining traditional German cuisine and many dishes from their childhood.</p><p>The chefs elevate classic German dishes like chicken salad, reinvented as a one-bite tartlet topped with butterhead lettuce jelly. Other dishes come with fascinating stories that were new to me, such as Leipziger Allerei, an everyman's dish of veggies and fish, and roasted Hungarian duck, which was a typical Christmas dish for the chefs growing up.</p><div type="image" title="Gaa restaurant Bangkok Thailand Pietro Lo Casto for Insider" height="1666" width="2222" msid="92064155" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Gaa</strong></p><p><a href="https://www.gaabkk.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Gaa</a>'s menu runs the gamut of inventive Thai and Indian fine dining, yet is always focused on local products (it's no wonder since the chef, Garima Aurora, once cut her chops at famed Noma in Copenhagen). Dishes such as mango soup with vanilla and dehydrated fruits and a crispy pomelo, chutney, and trout roe snack are inspired by Indian street food with a twist.</p><p>While Aurora hails from India, the restaurant is a Bangkok original, and, in my opinion, brings much-needed visibility to the country's sizable Thai-Indian minority which has existed for generations.</p><div type="image" title="The chef at Jay Fai in Bangkok cooking food in a wok while wearing a hat and goggles." height="3404" width="4538" msid="92064156" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Jay Fai</strong></p><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/jayfaibangkok/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Jay Fai</a> is Bangkok's most legendary street-food stop. Dining at this unmarked shophouse is a rite of passage, as 70-something Jay Fai, who tosses high flames all day while wearing ski goggles and red lipstick, is a superstar. Since there's no booking ahead, die-hard gourmands start waiting as early as 10 a.m. for a table. One upside I've found, at least, is since there's no real queue but a sign-up sheet, you can mill about and chat with a diverse crowd of travelers also eating their way around Asia (and usually, they'll have great restaurant tips, too).</p><p>If you are lucky to get seated, Jay Fai's revered dishes like the crab meat omelet (what you'll see her firing up most often in her charcoal brazier) and the seafood drunken noodles live up to the hype. A meal here is considerably more expensive (around 1,000 baht or $30 per dish) than what you would pay for most street food, but much less than dining on Michelin stars anywhere else in Bangkok. If you ask me, waiting a few hours is worth the bragging rights.</p><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="80/20 restaurant Bangkok Thailand" height="4000" width="5333" msid="92064157" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>80/20</strong></p><p><a href="https://www.8020bkk.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">80/20</a> is a restaurant that showcases Thai flavors in a forward-thinking way. The name represents the chef's philosophy of using 80% Thai pantry and 20% of produce from abroad. I think the outcome is a fantastic menu flaunting balanced, seasonal flavors, such as the signature Stormy Sea made of squid, mangosteen, and chili (my favorite dish), and pork belly with infused mushroom.</p><p>Located in a converted Chinatown shophouse, the 80/20 vibe features sexy lighting, jagged cement, and handmade earthen crockery. I've lived in Bangkok for most of the past decade — here are 10 places where you should actually eat, from fine dining to street food

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Lauren DeCicca/Getty Images</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong>The eight boys rescued from a Thai cave are recovering well in hospital.</strong></li><li><strong>Two have a "minor" lung infection, but they all seem to be in good mental health.</strong></li><li><strong>The boys have seen their parents from behind glass as they remain in isolation to protect their health.</strong></li><li><strong><strong>They have started eating plain food.</strong></strong></li></ul><p>Officials at the Chiang Rai hospital have said that the eight boys who have already been rescued from the caves have seen their families and are eating well. </p><p>Public health officials said at a press conference from the hospital that all of the rescued boys had low temperatures, but are being warmed up. Two are being treated for a "minor" lung infection.</p><p>He added that t<span>he boys met with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha last night at hospital. </span></p><p><span>The boys have been allowed to see their families through a glass window as </span><span>doctors continue to conduct thorough health checks and monitor the boys for any contagious diseases.
